Wow!!!! @louievega 's #ElementsofOfLife dropped 20 years ago today (March 9, 2004)!!! This album raised the bar for dance/House music, and so many of these songs STILL blaze the dancefloor!!! I vividly remember experiencing this music at Winter Music Conference in Miami when it first came out. That's when WMC was EVERYTHING for us #HouseHeads!!! Thank you to everyone who created this timeless piece of my life's soundtrack!!!

Unbelievably, today marks 20 years since the release of the first Elements of Life album. We have found the original notes that I wrote about everyone involved in the project, so I wanted to share those with you, along with some of the music from the project. A very special time in my life, and a body of work that I’m VERY proud of .

<2020 매일 음악하기> 49일 차. 요요마와 실크로드 앙상블 보고 싶었던 영화가 웨이브(구 푹티비)에 있어서 드디어 보게 되었어요. 지금 검색해보니까 같은 가격으로 유튜브 영화에도 있네요. 하 진짜 유튜브는 없는 게 없...... 개봉 당시 찬사가 이어졌고, 내한 공연도 했었는데 그때 뭔가 되게 바빠서 다 놓쳤었죠 ㅠㅠ 하, 진짜 처음부터 끝까지 감동의 쓰나미가!! 음악 하시는 분들 무조건 꼭 보세요. 음악 하시는 분들 아니더라고 기회 되면 꼭 보세요. 정말 초강추 다큐멘터리입니다!! --- "저의 음악가로서의 책임은 희망을 심는 것입니다." ‘나는 왜 음악을, 첼로 연주를 하는 것인가’ 음악가라는 정체성에 대한 본질적인 의구심을 갖게 된 요요 마는 연주활동을 그만두고 하버드 인류학과에 진학한다. 이후 요요 마는 클래식 레퍼토리에만 전착하지 않고 팝, 재즈, 보사노바, 탱고, 영화음악 등 다양한 클라보레이션 작업을 이어나갔다. 그리고 1998년 ‘실크로드 프로젝트’를 시작한다. “아버지가 어렸을 때 작곡가 레온 커슈너가 이렇게 말했어요. ‘넌 경이로운 음악가지만 너의 소리를 찾지 못했다’ 그건 아버지에게 충격이었어요 아버지는 그 답을 찾기 시작했죠” (니콜라스 마/요요 마의 아들), 영화 <요요마와 실크로드 앙상블> 중-  “저는 제 삶에서 두 가지 열정, ‘음악’과 ‘사람’이 쌍둥이와 같다는 것을 깨달았습니다＂(요요마) 요요 마는 말한다. 음악은 사람들이 그들이 사는 세상을 다른 관점에서 바라볼 수 있게 새로운 다른 공간으로 이동시켜준다는 것, 우리에게 익숙한 세상을 다른 시각으로 바라보게 하는 것은 상상력을 자극하고, 문제해결 능력을 높여주고, 더 넓은 세상에 대한 진정한 배려심을 갖게 만든다고 말이다. 실크로드 앙상블의 무대는 바로 이런 메시지를 전달하고 있다. 사람과 문화를 이해하면 우리는 서로 이해할 수 있다고.   “인간으로서, 우리가 생존을 위해 기본적으로 음식, 물 그리고 살 곳이 필요합니다. 하지만, 똑같이 중요한 것이 있다면 이해가 필요합니다. 우리는 우리의 환경을 이해할 필요가 있고, 우리 자신과, 다른 사람들을 이해할 필요가 있습니다.
