Thought this quote from Lisa could be helpful for some people- Simon did try to adjust to the monarchy (even though he shouldn't have had to, but for the crowd that thinks Simon didn't "understand" Wille's pressure), but the problem wasn't Simon. Simon could have done everything, but the problem was with Wille and his family. It was a situation that wasn't working, Simon wasn't getting the support he needed within the relationship, and Wille's issues weren't about Simon, it was his parents and the monarchy as an institution. That breakup needed to happen for them to come back together.

Interesting article here, with Lisa Ambjorn profiled along with four British writers who all write in the English language. Making it all the more impressive that she got noticed by Hollywood, since her big hit was all in Swedish.
But in the article it says Lisa was the head writer for the first two seasons of Young Royals, and was promoted to showrunner in Season 3. Which brings me to my question: who was the showrunner in S1 and S2?

Sorry if this has been shared before.
In this interview Lisa talks about her thoughts while writing the script.

I love this interview, it’s very insightful and touches on the main characters. This made me pause though.

The thing with the revenge porn supposedly dying down as soon as Wilhelm denied he was the other boy in the video is SUCH bullshit. There are many, many examples of teenagers who have taken their own lives after intimate images and videos of them were shared with the world without their consent. The harassment they got from schoolmates, acquaintances, and random strangers on the internet caused their deaths. And none of those kids were with famous people in their videos.
Lisa took on a deadly serious subject, and then trivialized it. There was a real case here in Vancouver a few years ago of a girl not much younger than Simon called Amanda Todd who killed herself after online sextortion and the criminal sharing the results of his extortion with her schoolmates. The guy recently went to prison for it. This is not a plot twist, this is real life.
I’m not saying Simon should’ve attempted suicide. But if Lisa was going to write about a very topical subject like teens being subjected to revenge porn, she had a responsibility to get it right. Not sweep it under the rug because exploring the repercussions didn’t fit with the story she wanted to tell. If she didn’t want to tell that story, she shouldn’t have written the video plot in the first place.
Ok I know I know what I said earlier, but I just checked @wasitroyal 's summary on Lisa's interview and what the actual-
(Oh I'm gonna be rude)
Did she really said she thought Wille's denial about the video would "fix" things for Simon? Like, after his FACE was on an actual MAGAZINE? And all over the Internet? IS SHE BEING FOR REAL?
You know, I could exuse and explain a lot of things. We all have a different perspective, that's fine, that's cool, but I'm sorry. This wasn't coming from a different perspective. It was pure stupidity. And, yes, it single-mindedly explained for me all the weird decisions of season three and all the plot holes that had been lingering since season one. That single thing about different perspective on karaoke scene showed that many fans have more brain cells than the people responsible for the story.
Also the thing about Maddie? I'm furious. And I was also right when I said 'it looks like The Message is that they will never change'. Such a bullshit. Thank you.
I would really like to talk about it more to someone who understands my issues with YR writing (s3 was a victim all along, omg), so if anyone willing to join, my dm's are there

I’m still on the YR subreddit from time to time, and I think someone there may have found the real life inspiration that led Lisa Ambjorn to create the series. They posted some very interesting info about a real-life elite Swedish boarding school called Lundsberg Skola that got shut down (temporarily, alas) in 2013 for severe physical abuse.
The Swedish Schools Inspectorate had repeatedly investigated Lundsberg Skola before over similar claims, but its incredibly influential alumni network had managed to keep it from being shut down until 2013, when the Schools Inspectorate declared that students were not safe there, and must all be removed. It’s educated multiple Swedish royals.
Lundsberg was allowed to reopen after firing their headmaster and instituting new anti-bullying policies. They’re still open, still charging insane tuition fees, and the Swedish elite are still sending their kids there despite well-documented abuses and decades upon decades of rumours about brutal bullying to which the staff turn a blind eye until a victim has to be hospitalized, the hospital notifies the police, and the media find out.
I’m a little skeptical that a new headmaster and a shiny new policy will actually make a dent in a culture of violence that goes back to 1896. Call me a cynic. And it’s insane that people are actually still paying to send their kids to this place that, in the Guardian article, an anonymous student described as “Lord of the Flies”. You’d think a simple Google search would have parents running for the hills.
Here’s the article from 2013 announcing the shutdown. Interestingly, the shutdown happened because of anonymous complaints from existing students about abuse the staff ignore. The article suggests the children of nouveau riche parents might be less loyal to the Lundsberg system than the children of old money families, where multiple generations have attended, and everyone considers the brutality and the culture of silence normal.
Here’s the Wikipedia page in English. Check out the list of alumni, which includes a bunch of Swedish royalty:
And here’s the link to the original Reddit post. The Reddit post also includes a link to a Spotify podcast about Lundsberg. I didn’t link to that because I haven’t listened to it. The Guardian article and Wikipedia were bad enough.
Here’s also a link to the school’s official website, but it’s all in Swedish. I clicked through a few promotional pictures of shiny students and shiny buildings. Every teenager I saw looked happy, like they weren’t in Lord of the Flies. And every single teenager in the photos I saw was white. I didn’t do an exhaustive search, though.
