“We should enter the parade again this year!” She excitedly held up a flyer for Bog to Beach, waving it too fast for Bob to actually read. “Ohhh the kids would love thaaat~”

Bob pursed his lips, quelling the instant rejection at the tip of his tongue. He remembered last year and how much fun he had after he, well, decided to have fun. They could dance with Marshmallow and her friends again, and that was always a good time. The kids would love it. It was just that he also remembered the repairs they had to pay for the truck.

“Where would we get a float?”

Brushing him off, Linda twirled her wrist as though a float would appear midair. “We’ll figure it out.” She snapped her fingers suddenly. “Oh! I should make a Nick’s tape!”

“A what?”

“A Nick’s tape.”

“Are you… saying nicks?” Bob questioned slowly. “It’s a mixtape, with an M.”

“No, like Nick’s. After my third cousin Nick who used to put all our favorite songs on a tape for us. Awww, Nick, rest in peace.”

“Wait what?”

Linda didn’t hear him, already calling on the kids to come draw up float plans with her. Just as she predicted, they launched into the project with loud suggestions and crazy ideas. Gene wanted something he called a glitter volcano. Tina wanted to ride alongside on an actual horse. Louise wanted to be unbanned from t-shirt cannons.

They would figure it out, he reminded himself.
