Remus Lupin stood at the top of the stairs, listening on you and your friend’s laughs from the living room, a small smile on his face. He couldn’t really hear exactly what was being said, but he knew just from your laughs that you were having a great time.
You had invited your friends over during the summer before you all went to Diagon Alley to get your school materials for your last year. Merlin, he doesn’t know how you grew up so fast - seems like just yesterday, you were sorted into (HOUSE).
Hearing you laugh once again, Remus got thrown back in time, hearing his own laugh with his friends, James, Sirius, and Peter. Remus remembered Lyall and Hope not being too thrilled with his choice in friends - especially Peter, which he understood now - but looking back, they truly were the best of friends.
They loved him for who he was, and he loved them. Those three were like the brothers he never had, sometimes being a bad influence, but never hurting him in any way, shape, or form. Remus even remembered when they found out he was a werewolf, trying to hide his…ability for almost two years.
“Who cares?” Sirius asked with a shrug, “you’re still our friend, aren’t you?”
“Moony!” James exclaimed, grabbing Remus’ shoulders with a smile on his face, “look at us, Prongs, Padfoot, Wormtail and Moony. You, our little werewolf friend, make us complete.”
Remus then remembered when you were dropped on his doorstep, your mother telling Remus that she couldn’t take care of a child with werewolf abilities. Sure, he was nervous raising you, but throughout the couple years, you seemed to be exactly like him.
The more the two of you talked about your werewolf abilities, the more convinced you were that your close group would accept you for who you are. Remus hated that conversation - having to be honest with you.
“Sweetheart, there are people who will look at you and decide to not be your friend anymore just because you’re a werewolf,” he said, eyebrows pressed together.
You smiled at him as you nodded, “dad, I know, but these friends…they’re basically family and I truly believe they’ll accept me - like Uncle Sirius and James did!”
He didn’t stop you there.
Listening once more, he heard the sound of stumbling feet before they balanced, “hear ye, hear ye!”
Maybe you got some of your mannerisms from Sirius - he chuckled.
A friend of yours spoke up, “listen, listen, the infamous Y/N Lupin has something quite important to say!”
Another let out a burp as you ate chips while standing above your friends, “I already know what this is about.”
You shuffled your feet before chuckling, “oh really?”
They stretched before leaning back on their elbows, “yup. Y/N, we told you, it’s okay that you have a crush on Professor Longbottom, the man killed Nagini for Merlin’s sake-”
You leaned down, smacking your friend on the head with your bag of chips, “ow!” Your other friends laughed as the other stuck their tongue out at you.
Gaining compsure, you cleared your throat, “anyways! I wanted to tell you guys something that I understand could potentially hurt us, but I want to say that I see all of you like family and I wouldn’t trade any of you for the world.”
One friend spoke up, “honestly, I’d trade F/N for a chocolate frog.” Another smack and Merlin, did Remus have to try his best to stuffle his laugh.
Your final friend sat between the two who were fighting, “continue, Miss/Mister Lupin.”
With a dramatic bow, you stood back up with a nervous look on your face. You nervously held onto your chips, “I’m…ugh, why is this so hard?”
Your three friends glanced at one another, “honey/dude, it’s okay, we’re here. What’s up?”
You licked your lips, “I’m a werewolf…and I understand if you guys don’t want to be friends-”
You were interrupted with three bodies tackling you to the ground, hugging you albeit too tight but you didn’t care. A laugh left your body, “are you guys trying to kill me or hug me?”
A friend pulled back, “hug you, of course! This doesn’t change anything, (NICKNAME). You’re still Y/N to us.”
Another pulled back as the last one clung onto you, “absolutely not, you being a werewolf still makes you the more superior one in this group.”
You all laughed, feeling so incredibly thankful for your friends.
And your father, Remus Lupin, stood at the top of the stairs with a smile on his own face, tears in his eyes, thankful for your own friends that they accepted you for who you were.
