South Africa recall Faf du Plessis, Rassie van der Dussen for India ODI tour

He takes the place of leg-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi, who is not available for the short tour due to the imminent birth of his first child. Keshav Maharaj is the other frontline spinner in the squad.
“It is exciting to see the amount of competition for spots that we have within the team and in the (domestic) franchises, it’s a good headache for us as selectors to have,” Cricket South Africa independent selector Linda Zondi said in a media release on Monday.
“We are satisfied with our picks for what will certainly be a challenging tour of India. We are also particularly pleased with the balance of youth and experience that we have achieved while our young leadership group continues to establish itself.”

South Africa chose not to select AB De Villiers for World Cup despite that batsman made himself available for campaign
Batsman reversed the decision to retire in April and made himself available again
David Charlesworth, Press Association Sport
| South African have decided to include AB De Villiers in their
The former South African captain said that he had & # 39; no gas left last year & # 39; when he decided to have a very successful international career, consisting of 114 test races, 228 one-day subpoenas and 78 Twenty20 & # 39; s.
However, a day after the Proteas crashed on their third consecutive defeat against the edge of an early run, Cricket South Africa De Villiers had approached the board around the time the provisional team was announced.

AB De Villiers missed South Africa & # 39; s World Cup squadron after turning his retirement
De Villiers had the support of coach Ottis Gibson and captain Faf Du Plessis, but the founder of selectors that Linda Zondi felt, including the 35-year-old, would have been unfair to those who stepped into the breach.] In a statement, Zondi said: & I begged AB De Villiers to not to retire in 2018.
& # 39; Although there was a perception that was picking and when I had to choose – what was not true – it did I give him the opportunity to plan and follow up his season to get him to the World Cup in a good condition space

& # 39; We had players who worked hard, raised their hands and deserved the opportunity to get to the World Cup.
& # 39; The decision was based on principle; we had to be honest with the team, the selection panel, our franchise system and players.
& # 39; At no time in the year he was retired did he make himself available for selection.
& # 39; AB is undoubtedly one of the best players in the world, but above all we have to stay true to our morals and principles. There is no regret about the decision. & # 39;
De Villiers collected 9,577 points in ODI's with an average of 53.5 and would undoubtedly have caught a batting line that struggled in England and Wales, with Quinton De Kock & # 39; s 68 against England their top score so far. There is still a long way to go and I believe the boys can still go all the way
The only thing that matters is that we all have to concentrate on supporting it team at the World Cup. ] #ProteaFire

Mrwebi responds to R10K Bosasa payment claims:
Mrwebi responds to R10K Bosasa payment claims: I heard that I am the cheapest of them all
Suspended special director of public prosecutions Lawrence Mrwebi told the Mokgoro Inquiry that the R10 000 he allegedly received from facilities management company Bosasa did not reach his bank account.
Mrwebi took the stand for the first time on Wednesday to respond to allegations levelled against him.
Last month, former Bosasa COO turned whistleblower, Angelo Agrizzi, testified before the state capture inquiry that Mrwebi and suspended deputy prosecutions boss Nomgcobo Jiba accepted bribes and blocked prosecutions.
Agrizzi testified that former correctional services commissioner Linda Mti leaked confidential National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) documents to Bosasa.
Jiba allegedly received R100 000, Mrwebi R10 000 and Jackie Lepinka, who was reportedly working as Jiba’s personal assistant at the time, received R20 000 every month. All three have denied the allegations.
READ: ‘I have no reason to favour Mdluli’ – Lawrence Mrwebi testifies
Responding to the allegations before retired judge of the Constitutional Court, Yvonne Mokgoro, Mrwebi said: “Yes, I heard that I am the cheapest of them all.”
“I don’t know what to say about that. What I can only say is that either that money was received by somebody for his/her own purposes because it did not reach my account or myself,” Mrwebi testified.
During his testimony at the Zondo commission of inquiry into state capture, Agrizzi also said that in 2013, the lead prosecutor in the Bosasa matter, Marijke de Kock, wrote a memo in which she explained that she believed she would be ready to prosecute some of those involved in the Bosasa tenders-for-bribes scandal by the end of 2013. But this never happened.
Agrizzi further claimed that in exchange for the documents and for the case against the company to be shut down, Bosasa executives paid cash to Mti which he would then pass on to Jiba, Lepinka and Mrwebi, who was De Kock’s boss.
But Mrwebi denied he was responsible for shutting down prosecutions in the Bosasa matter, Instead, he said he encouraged and put pressure on the prosecutor in the matter.
Mrwebi told the inquiry that Lepinka was Mti’s private secretary
OVERVIEW: ‘That money did not reach my account’ – Mrwebi on allegations of receiving R10 000 from Bosasa #Mokgoroinquiryshe was employed by the NPA
He said when he joined the head office in 2011, Lepinka was already at the NPA.
Mrwebi said his first involvement in the Bosasa matter was in October 2013.
He received a report from his two deputy directors that the Bosasa matter was presented and registered with the anti-corruption task team.
He said his second role was in relation to Section 205 subpoenas which Agrizzi already testified about.
“Some of the people connected with that investigation had been required to appear before the magistrate and to be examined by the prosecutor in relation to certain transactions they were involved in.”
He said the acting regional head and the prosecutor in the Bosasa matter wrote a memo to him, saying he should intervene in the Section 205 subpoenas.
“I looked into the matter and I wrote a letter saying it would be inappropriate for the NPA to withdraw the matter.
“The subpoena is like a court order – if those people (Bosasa individuals) wanted the subpoenas to be set aside, their only action is to take the matter to court and review the subpoena,” he said.
Mrwebi said they had their first formal briefing on Bosasa as early as January 2013.
Mrwebi says as early as 2013 they received a report on Bosasa and Agrizzi was one of the people they were sure they had ample evidence to charge him. “We put pressure on the prosecutor,” he says. #MokgoroInquiry@TeamNews24
— Jeanette Chabalala (@J_chabalala) February 20, 2019
“It was then that we got an indication that the prosecutor in the matter was ready at least to prosecute some people within the Bosasa company, in particular Patrick Gillingham.
“We were promised the charge sheet by April 2013 and we put pressure on the prosecutor from January and the following months to say: ‘When will the charge sheet be ready?’
“Mr Agrizzi was one of the people that we were sure that we had ample evidence against him to be prosecuted at that time,” he said.
Mrwebi said during a meeting to discuss the Bosasa matter – the prosecutor changed and said she believed the Bosasa officials should be charged with racketeering.
He said the prosecutor called Jiba aside and raised her concerns about “a certain individual”.
He said it was the first time a disclosure was made about a relationship between Lepinka (who was part of the meeting) and Mti.
He said Lepinka was excused from the meeting and never joined any Bosasa-related meetings.
Asked by his advocate, Mervyn Rip, SC, if he knew Mti, Mrwebi denied ever meeting him (Mti). He said he knew Mti as an accused in the Bosasa matter but he did not have any relationship with him.
The inquiry adjourned until Thursday when Jiba is expected to testify.
President Cyril Ramaphosa suspended Mrwebi and Jiba in October 2018, pending the outcome of the inquiry.
He is expected to receive the inquiry report on March 9.

Michigan couple makes stop in KC as they canoe along Missouri River for charity
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Every marriage is a bit of a journey, but Gary and Linda De Kock never dreamed they would spend their retirement paddling across America along the Missouri River.
“Never did we expect to spend our retirement this way,” Linda De Kock said.
Their journey began in Montana in June and has taken them through tunnels, over rapids, under bridges and dangerously close to trees.
Gary and Linda De Kock paddle down the Missouri River.
“We spent a tornado in a vault toilet one night,” Linda De Kock said.
But this is no joy ride. This couple from Grand Rapids, Michigan, is paddling with a purpose.
“We’re not just out for the day. We’re doing it for a purpose,” Gary De Kock said. “Our purpose is to raise money for ‘Water for People.’”
The nonprofit based in Denver provides clean and safe water for villages in third world countries. The couple has an online fundraising link on their Facebook page, Padding for a Purpose, to support the organization.
“You see women and children walking 5 miles a day, several times a day, to get water,” Linda De Kock said. “When Water for People goes there, and then we go back 5 years later, the children are in school. The women started businesses.”
After Wednesday night’s pit stop in Kansas City, their journey will end in 10 days in St. Louis where the Missouri and Mississippi rivers meet.
“The kindness from strangers is an amazing thing along the river,” Linda De Kock said. “I could tell you stories for hours.”
While other retired couples may have different ideas on how to spend the Golden Years, the De Kocks said they’ve never been happier.
“It feels like the most meaningful part of our lives so far,” Linda De Kock said.

Dale Steyn picked for Sri Lanka Tests
Dale Steyn picked for Sri Lanka Tests
South Africa’s faith in Dale Steyn to return to peak fitness and form in international cricket was restated on Monday (June 11) when the fast bowler was named in the 15-man Test squad for next month’s tour of Sri Lanka. Steyn’s last appearance for the Proteas came in the first Test against India at Newlands at the start of the year, which he was unable to complete when he limped out of the second innings with a heel injury.
At the time, specialists suggested that the fast bowler could return in just six weeks. Instead Steyn, who turns 35 later this month, spent nearly five months recuperating before finally playing a competitive match for Hampshire last week. His rustiness showed as he took 1 for 80 in a one-day match against Somerset, but he went on to prove his fitness over the weekend when he bowled 26 overs in the first innings of Hampshire’s ongoing county match against Surrey at the Rose Bowl.
That was enough for the selectors to feel comfortable about picking Steyn as one of four fast bowlers in the squad that plays a two-Test series in Sri Lanka on July 12. Cricket South Africa had already shown their faith in Steyn by handing him a national contract for the next year, and with Morne Morkel having retired from international cricket, a place opened up in South Africa’s attack.
“It is a very welcome news to have Dale back in our pack of world-class seamers, particularly in view of the retirement of Morne Morkel,” selection convenor Linda Zondi said. “Kagiso Rabada has also made a complete recovery from the injury concerns he had at the end of the Australia Test series.”They have reacted by picking no fewer than three spinners, with left-arm wrist spinner Tabraiz Shamsi and legspinner Shaun von Berg providing back-up to Keshav Maharaj.
While Shamsi has played one Test – the day-night encounter in Australia in 2016 – von Berg could make his international debut at the age of 31 after enjoying a successful, title-winning season with the Titans. Von Berg finished second on the Sunfoil Series wicket-taking list, behind offspinner Simon Harmer, who remains unavailable after he signed a Kolpak deal with Essex.
“A key factor in our selection process was to cover all our bases and all possible conditions that we may encounter in Sri Lanka,” said Zondi. “The two additional spinners to back up Keshav Maharaj have both had excellent records in recent times in our domestic cricket. Von Berg also gives us additional batting strength in the lower order.”
Heinrich Klaasen is the other uncapped player in the squad – he will continue to provide back-up to wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock, but will also be considered as a specialist batsman. Klaasen was a non-playing member of the squad that beat Australia 3-1 at home recently, and has risen up the batting stakes in the wake of AB de Villiers’ international retirement.

Both of them have excelled in the domestic first-class tournament. Klaasen raked up 292 runs from six innings, including two hundreds, before being called up for international duty in coloured clothing. Mulder has scored 370 runs this season from nine innings and has also picked up 15 wickets from 11 innings with his right-arm seam bowling.

“Klaasen has been tremendously impressive in the white-ball matches he has played for the Proteas and we firmly believe he can become just as good a player in the five-day format,” said Linda Zondi, National Selection Panel Convener. “He has averaged nearly 50 with the bat in Sunfoil four-day cricket this season and hit two centuries. We are also keen to have a backup wicketkeeper to De Kock in the squad.
“The selection of Mulder continues our strategy to expand our pool of all-rounders against top quality opposition. He is a batting all-rounder and his selection will depend on how we decide to balance our starting XI. He has been the top all-rounder in the Sunfoil Series with a batting average of 60 (one century) and 15 wickets at an average of 28,” he added. “It has been very exciting this season to see the way young players have settled into the various Proteas squads and done well and this is a continuation of that policy.”
If either of the two players makes their debut, they will be the 100th player to represent South Africa since their readmission to international cricket post-apartheid in 1992. Overall, 334 players have represented the country so far since they played Test cricket first in 1889.
AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis and Quinton de Kock, all of whom have been grappling with niggles and minor injuries, have been deemed fit to make it to the Test squad.
The first Test between the sides will be played starting March 1 in Durban.

Steyn had twisted his ankle and suffered a broken tissue throughout the primary Take a look at in opposition to India. AB de Villiers, who had to take a seat out for some a part of the India sequence because of a couple of accidents, has additionally been added to the squad. Chris Morris and Andile Phehlukwayo, who featured within the India sequence, had been dropped.
“Klaasen has been significantly spectacular within the white-ball fits he has performed for the Proteas and we firmly consider he can develop into simply as excellent a participant within the five-day structure. He has averaged just about 50 with the bat in Sunfoil four-day cricket this season and hit two centuries. We also are willing to have a back-up wicketkeeper to De Kock within the squad,” CSA Nationwide Variety Panel Convener Linda Zondi stated of Klaasen’s inclusion.
“The choice of Mulder continues our technique to extend our pool of all-rounders in opposition to prime quality opposition. He’s a batting all-rounder and his variety relies on how we come to a decision to stability our beginning XI. He has been the highest all-rounder within the Sunfoil Sequence with a batting reasonable of 60 (one century) and 15 wickets at a median of 28. It’s been very thrilling this season to look the best way younger gamers have settled into the more than a few Proteas squads and accomplished smartly and it is a continuation of that coverage,” Zondi added.

Klaasen, Mulder in Test squad to face Australia
South Africa have picked wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen and allrounder Wiaan Mulder – both uncapped in Tests – in their squad for the first two Tests against Australia.
Allrounders Chris Morris and Andile Phehlukwayo, and fast bowler Duanne Olivier were the players to miss out on selection, after having been part of the squad for the Tests against India.
Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Kock, AB de Villiers and Temba Bavuma, all of whom missed all or part of the ODI and T20I series against India due to injuries, were named in the Test squad. Dale Steyn, who was injured during the first Test against India, was not.
Klaasen travelled as South Africa’s back-up Test wicketkeeper on the tour to New Zealand last March but did not play a game. He’s scored 292 runs at 48.66 for Titans in the 2017-18 Sunfoil Series, South Africa’s first-class competition, and played match-winning innings in the Johannesburg ODI and Centurion T20I against India.
“Klaasen has been tremendously impressive in the white-ball matches he has played for the Proteas and we firmly believe he can become just as good a player in the five-day format,” CSA National Selection Panel convener Linda Zondi said. “He has averaged nearly 50 with the bat in Sunfoil four-day cricket this season and hit two centuries. We are also keen to have a back-up wicketkeeper to de Kock in the squad.”
Mulder, 20, was a non-playing member of the Test squad against Bangladesh at the start of the summer in late September. Ottis Gibson, who attended a round of first-class matches soon after his appointment as South Africa coach, had been impressed with Mulder and identified him as a future prospect.
Mulder averages 61.66 for Lions in the 2017-18 Sunfoil Series – 370 runs in nine innings – and has played one ODI for South Africa, against Bangladesh in October last year.
“The selection of Mulder continues our strategy to expand our pool of allrounders against top-quality opposition. He is a batting allrounder and his selection will depend on how we decide to balance our starting XI. He has been the top allrounder in the Sunfoil Series with a batting average of 60 (one century) and 15 wickets at an average of 28.”

AB De Villiers, Dale Steyn Back In Test Squad For South Africa
AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn were on Wednesday named in a 14-man squad for South Africa’s one-off day-night Test against Zimbabwe, starting in Port Elizabeth on December 26. Batsman De Villiers has not played Test cricket since January 2016 while fast bowler Steyn suffered a fractured shoulder in a Test against Australia in November 2016 and only returned to competitive cricket last month.
New ball bowler Vernon Philander is also back after missing a recent series against Bangladesh because of a back injury.
South Africa’s top four fast bowlers are reunited, with Morne Morkel having recovered from an injury he suffered during the first Test against Bangladesh.
AB and Dale bring loads of experience to the side apart from being two of the South African all-time greats, said selection convener Linda Zondi.
Faf du Plessis was named as captain, although he has been out of action recently following a shoulder operation. Although De Villiers is set to return to Test action, he was withdrawn from the South African Invitation team which starts a three-day match against the Zimbabweans in Paarl on Wednesday because of lower back stiffness. Zondi said the withdrawal was a precaution and that De Villiers would be available for the Test.
South African Test squad:
Faf du Plessis (captain), Hashim Amla, Temba Bavuma, Quinton de Kock (wkt), Theunis de Bruyn, AB de Villiers, Dean Elgar, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, Morne Morkel, Andile Phehlukwayo, Vernon Philander, Kagiso Rabada, Dale Steyn

Groenlichtmoment
