“He’s toying with us!” the hyur gunbreaker barked, a frantic look in his eye. “Let me shadow the bastard before it’s too late; I’ll -prove- he is against us! I am the best suited of us to do so!” He was of course referring to the recently met Emet-Selch, an enigmatic figure even for an Ascian, who’s motivations couldn’t be easily discerned. He had offered the Scions both his advice and even the possibility of his -strength- on their mission to best the Lightwardens- all for the simple return of being left to watch them without disturbance of their hostility. Thancred had, in the moment, not immediately resulted to violence but as the day had progressed, his blood had begun to boil with the sickening thought of willingly allowing an Ascian near himself or anyone he cared for. Yet the least thing he had expected of the heated debate he now found himself between his allies, was for -Aria- to stand in his way. Blinking at her in confusion, his hazel hues narrowed dangerously. “…You cannot possibly -believe- him?! -You-, of all people?”

"Thancred, that's enough, please!" Aria replied curtly, frowning. It was rare to see her so sharp, especially towards her companions - and it made her feel a heartache especially since it was the man for whom she had some feelings.

"I don't question your abilities, far from it. But I know how much you hate the Ascians because of what Lahabrea did to you and all the harm they caused - and caused us. And now you're letting your resentment take over you when we have to keep a cool head," she said, insisting on certain words, her grey hues fixed in his hazel hues, her severe gaze and her arms crossed on her chest.

When the Warrior of Light saw her late Emperor - and at least forty years younger - approaching them at the foot of the Crystal Tower, she understood that something was not logical. But she expected everything but to learn that Solus zos Galvus was none other than an Ascian. - Moreover, she wondered how he managed to use magic in a body whose main weakness was not being able to do so. - However... something intrigued her about Emet-Selch's behavior and she wanted to know more.

"I don't believe him, just as I don't trust him. Do you think I'm stupid and naive enough for that since we've known each other? 'Keep your friends close to you and your enemies even closer.' Don't you know that saying?" Aria sighed softly. "I don't like the fact that he watches us and stays by our side when he wants to, so be reassured. But being able to talk with him will allow us to learn more about him and his peers and their motivations."

For Hazel :3 🌇 (sunset) - What does it take for your character to trust someone? Do they have to prove themselves? Or does your character not trust anyone no matter what? What made them this way?

Hazel isn’t always the best judge of character. She jumps to conclusions way too readily and really only has a 50/50 rate on if those preconceptions are accurate or not. This includes her ideas on who can be trusted. Her life living in the Steppe made her cautious around most not wearing the colors of the Kha until learning more about the other tribes and their history/ideology.

Overall she is cautiously trusting of others, as long as they show some sincerity and honesty during her first impressions period. Sincerity as a whole is probably the biggest factor, even for those whom she doesn’t trust but are trying to earn it. A person’s body language also plays a big part in if she immediately trusts someone, able to spot if they are on guard or relaxing.

After the events of the MSQ though, WoL!Hazel isn’t as trusting as her Reg!Timeline counterpart. Not after having her trust be broken multiple times, such as slowly allowing herself to buy in to the words of Emet-Selch during the Lightwarden incident, only to have her trust thoroughly betrayed. She still has an open heart but keeps others at more of a distance nowadays at first.

Because Hazel's Echo is tied to the 'scent' of one's aether, does Zero have a hodgepodge of scents or is she an empty void? Does Hazel's aether 'taste' of anything to Zero?

So a little bit of context for people on Tumblr: a while back some friends and I all discussed about additional Echo abilities our WoLs would have, like Mikoto getting glimpses of the future or Krile being able to see visible traces of a person’s aether/soul. Hazel’s I decided would be that she can tell a person’s aether/soul apart from others by a particular “smell”. It can be used to track others but it’s nowhere near as strong or precise as Krile’s ability. Each person’s soul has a unique scent to her, and given enough time Hazel can parse the differences, though explaining them to someone not able to smell the scents she does can be quite tough (Alphinaud’s aether smelling “more cool and minty” than Alisaie’s).

Zero’s aether, having spent so long in the Void and feasting on whatever aether she could get, would have more of a mixture of scents than most. Still, I feel there would always be an underlying scent to it all no matter what: the scent of Zero’s own soul. I’d imagine it to be close to a very rainy night. A somber downpour, one that could bring down thunder and lightning or just as equally part to reveal a breathtaking rainbow. The scent of the storm lingering in the air long after the rain has stopped. This smell would be much more prominent over all the other scents from the kinds of aether Zero recently consumed, as if the rain was washing them all away.

As for the “taste” of Hazel’s aether for Zero, there’s a slightly “cold and chilly” feeling and taste, like an ice cold glass of crystal clear water, due to the interrupted Lightwarden transformation scarring Hazel’s aether and soul. But overall I feel Hazel’s aether would have the taste of some form of smoked and spiced meat. A filling and warm meal, with a level of heat that can even make Zero react. The contrasting of flavors between the damage the Light caused Hazel’s and her natural soul’s taste would lead to a very unique experience for Zero as she takes aether from Hazel, an experience she’d be hard pressed to get from another’s soul.
