Labor, equipment, wiring and components, maintenance and repair, licensing and compliance, and other costs are the key components of this category. Other costs include transportation and logistics, rent and utilities, sales and marketing, insurance, and taxes. Labor and equipment account for the largest share of the cost structure. A prominent pricing structure used in lighting services is fixed-price structure, which guarantees that a service provider will receive the approved sum of money specified in the contract and have a predetermined, predictable pricing for the services indicated. Another type of pricing structure is based on time and materials, in which the price is decided by the cost of materials and the amount of time needed to finish the task. This pricing structure is usually adopted when the time and resources required for a particular service cannot be realistically concluded beforehand. An FTE-based pricing structure is also used in this category, where the service provider decides the pricing based on the headcount of resources working on the project. Additionally, service providers in this category may also use value-based pricing, wherein the rates are decided based on the consumer’s perceived value of the service.
Asia Pacific dominates the global lighting services category, holding a significant portion of the global market share. Key driving factors for this region include presence of several large-scale vendors in China, rise in the number of smart city projects, increase in government initiatives to promote energy-efficient lighting systems, and emergence of LaaS. Procurement Software for Discrete Manufacturers — How Can it Improve Efficiency and Reduce Costs?
Manufacturers today are under immense pressure to extract maximum value from their supply chains while differentiating their products and services. Many are turning to digitization to innovate faster and discover new ways to deliver their offerings. Companies are accelerating the adoption of digital technologies such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning for transforming their business operations from sourcing to customer management.
The Sourcing and Procurement function plays a major role in discrete manufacturing companies, which typically incur about 60% to 70% of their total spend on the procurement of materials and services. Intense competition results in a price war between the companies making adoption of cost-efficient strategies imperative. Procurement software for discrete manufacturers can enhance predictability in their supply chain by minimizing the risks and help in controlling spending more efficiently.
Productivity Paradox in the Post-COVID Era
Today, the world is in round two of the Solow Paradox. Earlier, in the 1990s technological innovation brought a significant increase in productivity. After the Great Recession, there has been a significant drop in productivity growth due to shortages created by volatile demand and investment opportunities. However, following the Great Recession in 2007, productivity growth has stagnated.
Initially, during the ICT (Information, Communication and Technology) revolution, there was a huge decline in productivity growth. It was not because the technology wasn’t as transformational as previous technologies that caused a boost in productivity growth. This decline can be attributed to companies’ failure to fully leverage new technologies. Currently, several companies are in the same stage. The pandemic has thrown light upon this disparity of productivity growth between the companies that are technologically equipped and the ones that are not.
Now more than ever, COVID has shown the importance of procurement in every manufacturing company that took a huge hit in their entire supply chain. The rapid variation in demand, the halt of the supply, and a tectonic shift of the market space had brought many companies to their knees. Companies that were technologically equipped had not only stayed ahead in the race but also saw an increase in productivity growth. COVID has forced businesses to use technology to its fullest and extract the maximum benefits. Numerous manufacturing companies have also revamped their procurement process and sourcing strategy which has transformed their supply chain significantly.
Procurement Trends for Discrete Manufacturers
Risk Management: The time has come for companies to do a thorough assessment of supply chain risks and manage them proactively. Instability in the supply chain can cripple the company’s growth and as we have seen during the pandemic, it can even impact survival. Mitigating risks from sourcing would eliminate any ripple effects in the supply chain. Supplier Risk Management ensures the stability of supply for the company. Sourcing software allows manufacturers to manage their supplier data, the core of every procurement activity, more efficiently. Having access to accurate supplier information is more critical when dealing with direct materials. Procurement software increases transparency throughout the supplier management process allowing companies to mitigate supply risks and ambiguities. It enables a definitive risk management strategy for companies to tackle any disruptive events.
Cost Reduction: Strong Analytics feature in Procurement software helps companies to identify their non-value-added suppliers and eliminate them. Manufacturing companies have contracts with their suppliers and monitoring contracts is a tedious manual process. They are exposed to Maverick Spend more than any industry. Contract management and spend analytics allow companies to reduce their maverick spend. Spend Analytics would also help in recognizing the potential areas of direct spending to optimise and create new forms of competitive advantage. Automation of payments, receiving and invoicing also enables these processes to run smoothly and reduce operational errors and thus all related costs.
Supplier Relationship and Co-Innovation: Supplier relationship is vital for a manufacturing company. With the fast-changing market, manufacturers must find innovative ways to ensure faster production and a reliable supplier base. Supplier partnerships can result in collaborative or joint innovation. A good sourcing platform would allow companies to pick the most suitable supplier who has an existing infrastructure or any complementary service and make it easier to establish partnerships and joint innovation with them to stay ahead of this evolving market.
Category Strategies: Category Managers have an essential role in the sourcing of Manufacturing companies. A good category strategy is based on deeper insights into the current cost and spending patterns as well as the future product roadmap of the company. For example, if customers are shifting to Electric Cars; Auto companies need to invest more in developing a supplier base in electrical and electronic categories. Consumer demands are constantly evolving, and companies must be at par with them. They would have to analyze the market dynamics regularly and formulate new category strategies that would help companies capture or regain value through sourcing. Category Management is a module that can significantly increase the value of the procurement process.
Faster Time-to-Market: Companies must reduce their NPI (New Product Introduction) time, to meet the fast-evolving customer needs. Engineering and R&D collaboration with Sourcing as well as Suppliers using technology makes this process efficient and scalable across product lifecycles. Real-time monitoring of the data would support the companies to adopt the NPI best practices. The ability to track changes in the Engineering Bill of Material and analyse the benefits can speed up the NPI cycle over a period. It is a very critical feature for companies that have complex product designs to manufacture. The visibility of the supplier information to the engineering and sourcing teams can be utilized in strategic sourcing and operational planning, resulting in fewer delays and a more collaborative relationship.
The Triangle of Digital Procurement
S2C (Source to Contract): Categorizing and managing spend in real-time, predicting demand more accurately, recognizing future sources of supply and acting promptly on timely alerts from all the negotiated contracts define the new S2C solutions. S2C enables data-driven decision-making in the company with the supply base, spending and costs visible to the procurement team in real time. It allows them to attain optimal agreements with high-value suppliers.
P2P (Procure to Pay): This business process focuses on transactional aspects of procurement. It can automatically send requisition replenishment requests to the supplier by sensing the material demands of the organization. By leveraging RPA, this can streamline and automate the repetitive, voluminous, error-prone payment processes. It speeds up the processing of purchase orders, requisitioning goods and paying invoices, and makes the entire P2P process more efficient and less prone to errors.
SRM (Supplier Relationship Management): It allows the organization to become more proactive in sourcing and helps in adopting strategic sourcing effectively. SRM also helps in mitigating supplier risks in real time and allows supplier co-innovation to capture value in the procurement process. It enables companies to focus on continuously optimizing procurement operations and pre-emptively equip themselves with risk management strategies.
Procurement software offers discrete manufacturers a powerful toolset to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and stay competitive in an increasingly digital market. MQ-9 Reaper Drones in Gaza: What is Their Purpose? - Technology Org
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/mq-9-reaper-drones-in-gaza-what-is-their-purpose-technology-org/
MQ-9 Reaper Drones in Gaza: What is Their Purpose? - Technology Org
U.S. officials disclosed that multiple U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drones have been circling above Gaza during Israeli military actions in an effort to aid in the search for hostages, including ten individuals reportedly of U.S. nationality. What is the purpose of these flights?

MQ-9 drones are predominantly owned by the U.S. Air Force and its manufacturer, General Atomics.
The General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicle is capable of loitering at heights of approximately 50,000 feet for over 27 hours, conducting surveillance using advanced cameras, sensors, and radars. With a wingspan measuring 66 feet (20.12 meters), it is equipped with a Honeywell engine, can carry up to 3,900 pounds (1769 kg) of fuel, and reaches a maximum speed of 240 knots (444 kph).
In service for the U.S. Air Force for the past 16 years, the Reaper is capable of being armed with weapons, including air-to-ground missiles.
MQ-9 drones have also been procured by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, NASA, the UK Royal Air Force, the Italian Air Force, the French Air Force, and the Spanish Air Force.

What do MQ-9 Reaper Drones do in Gaza?
Officials say that the drone flights in the area were unarmed, utilizing onboard sensors to search for hostages. These drones are equipped with advanced cameras, some capable of detecting heat or operating in low-light conditions.
As per reports, at least six of these unmanned aircraft have been deployed, with their routes predominantly focused on southern Gaza. Reapers typically hovered over the region for around three hours at an altitude of approximately 25,000 feet.
Drones are typically more cost-effective than manned aircraft of similar capabilities and pose fewer risks to operators as they don’t require a pilot. Unlike many conventional aircraft, drones can loiter for extended periods, collecting intelligence. The estimated cost to fly a MQ-9 Reaper drone is about $3,500 per flight hour, in contrast to around $8,000 per flight hour for operating an F-16, according to General Atomics.

How new AI demands are fueling the data center industry in the post-cloud era
The potential of AI in the data center industry during the post-cloud era
The growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) indicates a significant increase in data demand and a new era of possible data center business development over the next two years and beyond.
After a decade of industry expansion fueled by cloud and mobile platforms, the “AI Era” comes to an end with this transformation. Over the past decade, the top public cloud service providers and internet content providers pushed data center capacity expansion to a world level, culminating in a frenzy of activity from 2020 to 2022 due to an increase in online service consumption and low-interest-rate project financing.
Nonetheless, substantial changes have occurred in the sector over the last year, including a rise in finance prices, project costs, and development delays, as well as acute power limitations in core regions. In many worldwide areas, for example, standard greenfield data center development timeframes have increased to four or more years, approximately twice as long as a few years ago when electricity and land were less restrictive.
Big internet companies are racing to secure data center capacity in important locations while balancing AI potential and concerns. The instability and uncertainty will raise the level of risk and make navigating the industry more difficult.
The automated procurement of data center capacity has come to an end
Cloud service companies enhanced demand forecasting and automated capacity buying throughout the Cloud Era. They had to return for extra capacity since demand surpassed expectations. Customers’ willingness to accept larger deals and lease capacity at higher costs has risen over the last two years, especially in areas with more available power.
Expansion of Self-build data center building strategies
For efficient market access, hyperscale purchasers in the data centre business are adjusting their self-build approach to rely on leased capacity from third parties. They recognise that self-building is unfeasible and are proposing smaller self-builds to meet future demand. This transition may result in a more diversified mix of self-built and leased capacity, necessitating the assessment of possible migration risks by third-party providers.
Increasing power demand for AI workloads, liquid cooling
AI workloads need high power density in data centres owing to the use of GPUs. Nvidia controls 95% of the GPU market for machine learning, resulting in high-end AI workloads operating on comparable technology. This leads to rack densities of 30-40kW, compared to 10kW/rack for public cloud applications. To solve this, hyperscalers and data center operators are focused on effective cooling systems, with some large hyperscalers proposing to move to liquid cooling solutions or increasing data datacrentre temperatures.
ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) standards
The industry of data centres The primary emphasis of ESG concerns is sustainability. The data center business stresses sustainability via renewable energy, water consumption, and carbon footprint reduction, employing a variety of ways to accomplish these objectives.
Enhancements to Efficiency
Energy-efficient designs such as free cooling, efficient power distribution, and efficient lighting systems must be recommended.
1. Use of renewable energy
Using the grid to obtain renewable energy.
Solar and wind are the best renewable resources.
Power purchase agreements (PPAs) specify the volume and price of long-term renewable energy.
2. Water consumption
Systems that are cooled by air.
Closed-loop water systems can reduce water consumption.
Water recycling and rainwater harvesting can reduce water consumption.
Waterless cooling technologies, like evaporative or adiabatic cooling, can assist in cooling systems.
3. Carbon balance
The heat from IT equipment is used to recover energy.
4. Waste minimization
The capacity to implement these solutions will vary greatly by market, based on local climate, energy mix, and other considerations such as worker safety.
AI Plugins: The Future Generation of Ecosystems
Numerous companies have offered third-party service plugins, allowing developers to connect additional data sources into their language model, possibly reshaping data center ecosystems around certain sectors or data sources.
Conclusion
Since demand for data storage is anticipated to surpass supply, the data centre sector must adopt flexible methods to manage the AI revolution and add capacity in the right markets.

Logistics Industry Supplier Benchmarking | Supply Market Intelligence
Originally Published on: SpendEdge | Supplier Benchmarking – Logistics Industry | Supply Market Intelligence
How does supplier benchmarking enhance logistics industry operations?
The logistics sector is the backbone and lifeblood of many sectors, and it frequently determines the success or growth of businesses, especially in light of the increasing need for delivery services, the overwhelming need for convenient couriers, and the shifting preferences of consumers. Major logistics organizations have been steadily increasing their reliance on dependable and trustworthy suppliers for a variety of reasons, necessitating the use of data-driven decision-making, supply market intelligence, and supplier benchmarking. In the competitive and continually expanding supplier benchmarking market, finding, attracting, and working with the perfect suppliers is essential for success. In order to identify the most suitable suppliers, the best strategic alliances, and the perfect contract conditions, market leaders are relying on the efficient process of supplier benchmarking and using data. The benchmarking process assists businesses in developing a list of important criteria and comparing the performance of prospective partners with that of current or past partnerships in order to select the best addition to their team and plans.
Which five essential criteria are used for supplier benchmarking?
Quality: Companies must maintain a scorecard to monitor, assess, and compare the performance of potential partners according to their chosen Key Performance Indicators (KPI) in order to properly undertake supplier benchmarking. In a sector that is expanding and experiencing high demand, maintaining high customer satisfaction levels, establishing a competitive edge, and setting your business apart from competitors all depend on the quality of your products and services. Transport vehicles, storage containers, workers and service providers, machinery and loading equipment, financial services, legal services, and numerous other important goods or services are all examples of procurement in the logistics sector. The caliber of these purchased goods and services immediately affects the caliber of the offerings made available by the business to its clients, and it plays a significant role in the decision to choose or reject a possible partner.
Delivery: Businesses must be certain of an alignment with regard to timetables, deadlines, desired quality, and as per listed purchase order when selecting suppliers and potential strategic partners. To maintain high levels of customer satisfaction, attract important clients, and expand operations, it is crucial to make sure that goods and services are purchased, produced, and delivered within a predetermined timeframe. The logistics sector is difficult, and missing deadlines can result in substantial backlash and client loss. This particular KPI also involves making sure that all orders are received in full and that the supplied goods are in perfect condition, undamaged, and performing as intended. Any missing parts, broken or damaged items, or unforeseen delivery delays should all be taken into account when making decisions because they may portend future difficulties, disputes, or delays.
Cost: As industries have grown, it has been more difficult to forecast and determine the optimal costs and prices. As a result, businesses frequently find it difficult to choose the best options for their operations, cost-cutting plans, and expense budgets. As a result, gathering and researching information on expenses borne by suppliers is crucial. The pricing and expenses being offered and incurred must also be compared to industry benchmarks, such as previous contracts, active partnerships, and benchmarks for the sector. Establishing the proper pricing and costs is one of the key goals of supply market information, which has grown into a crucial instrument for making the best decisions regarding supply chains, procurement, and sourcing.
Service: Communications, service exchanges, and business dealings with prospective partners must be well handled, amenable to resolution, and produce long-lasting dynamics for both sides. Building relationships that are cooperative, encouraging, and mutually beneficial is essential for the development of the business, the effective provision of purchased goods and services, and long-lasting current partnerships. Potential partners' levels of customer service and collaboration should be assessed based on their compliance rates, responsiveness to business needs, and capacity for problem-solving through collaboration. This KPI can have a significant influence, and even if high-quality, quick delivery, and remarkable scores on all other metrics are highly important, poor customer service must be prioritized over the others because it can result in non-compliance, losses, and other financial or interpersonal difficulties.
Risk: Risks rise throughout industries as demand and competition rise, yet businesses frequently overlook the significance of risk assessment and mitigation, especially when choosing and accepting potential partners. If businesses are watchful, industry hazards can be recognized and planned for. Companies frequently use supply market information to handle the risks and complexity of their supply chains; they must make sure the same technology is used when looking for possible strategic partners. It is critical to evaluate the suppliers' understanding of possible or existing hazards, risk assessment activities, and risk management strategy. This KPI also evaluates the suppliers' efforts to manage and mitigate risks, as well as their capacity to effectively do so and lessen the effects of inescapable hazards.
Successful Case
The substantial difficulty of finding and developing partnerships with the best-fit suppliers to support them in achieving their goals and successfully delivering customers' expectations is one that many businesses must overcome in the highly demanded and rapidly evolving logistics industry. As their company grew into more states, a top logistics service provider in the US sought to select the best partners for their venture and to assure long-term success for upcoming strategic alliances. In order to select the best partners for their quickly growing business, the company decided to use SpendEdge supplier benchmarking technologies. The organization was able to successfully identify and select new suppliers to work with thanks to the advice of our specialists, a correct comprehension of the appropriate KPIs and metrics, and thorough insights into requirements from potential partners. The firm selected a partner by using supply market data and supplier benchmarking, who satisfied all needs, assisted in the supply chain's streamlining, enabled cooperation and communication, and helped the company grow at an exponential rate.
