Good Witch is a Hallmark Channel series that follows Cassie Nightingale, the owner and proprietor of Grey House, a B&B in the town of Middleton. The series is a spinoff of a series of movies of the same name. The original movie premiered in 2008 and spawned 11 sequels plus the television series.

Where is Good Witch filmed?

While the show takes place in the fictitious town of Middleton, USA, the show is filmed in and around Toronto, Canada. The real Grey House is in Dundas, Ontario, Canada and is known as Foxbar. Fans from the show flock to Foxbar every year to check out the home. The owner of the home said last year fans from Australia came to Foxbar just to take a picture!

Though the fictitious Middleton is in the United States, a state is never specified. They only refer to the state as “The Falcon State” and the license plates were fashioned white and blue to match Ontario’s license plate colors to keep in continuity with the area where the show is actually filmed. 

According to executive producer Jon Eskenas, there have been modifications and additions to each set every season. Because there are so many food props in the show between Cassie’s special recipes, Grey House, the bistro, and the many parties on the show, there is a cooking station in the studio just for prop foods. As various cast members have dietary needs or restrictions, the props department coordinates what types of food can fit the creative storyline for each episode, look great and be edible for the cast.

Catherine Bell (Cassie Nightingale Russell Radford)

Cassie’s real name is Sue Ellen Brock, something she reveals to Jake (Chris Potter) on their first date in the first movie. She owns and runs Bell, Book & Candle, a shop in Middleton as well as Grey House, a B&B once thought to be haunted. She was previously married to Jake Russell, the police chief of Middleton. Jake had two kids from his previous marriage and he and Cassie had a child together, Grace. After Jake’s untimely death, it took Cassie years before she decided to open up her heart and begin dating again. She eventually began dating Dr. Sam Radford, after he moved to town. They dated several years before marrying in season 5.

Fun fact: Bell recently reprised her JAG role as Marine Lieutenant Colonel Sarah “Mac” Mackenzie on and episode of NCIS: Los Angeles. 

James Denton (Dr. Sam Radford)

A successful New York doctor and surgeon, Sam and his son, Nick, relocated to the small town of Middleton looking for a fresh start. He married to Cassie Nightingale in season 5.

Fun fact: Sam plays the guitar often on the show. Denton is an accomplished musician and is a member of a band of actors called The Band From TV. 

Sarah Power (Abigail Pershing)

Abigail is a cousin to Cassie and also a Merriwick, though her unique abilities tend to be darker than Cassie’s. Abigail owns a flower shop in town and was once the mayor of Middleton. It was when she was mayor that she butted heads with Donovan Davenport, the handsome mayor of Blairsville, the rival town to Middleton. The two shared a mutual attraction and began dating, much to the chagrin of Donovan’s mother, Dotty, and Mayor Tinsdale. Oh, and there’s that pesky little Merriwick-Davenport curse after one of Abigail’s ancestors, Patience Merriwick jilted her fiance, Roderick Davenport.

Fun fact: Whenever they are scheduled to film large group scenes where most, if not all, of the main cast will be present, Powers brings board games to set and the cast play between filming. 

Catherine Disher (Martha Tinsdale)

Martha is the proud (and often overdramatic) mayor of Middleton. Her husband, Tom Tinsdale, was previously mayor of the town. In Season 5, it was revealed she was actually a resident of Blairsville and was stripped of her mayoral duties because of the way the town’s border ran through her property though she eventually regained her mayoral status.

Fun fact: Martha is never without her purse. Along with the mayor’s gavel, they are Disher’s favorite props. 

Peter MacNeill (George O��Hanrahhan) 

George is Cassie’s father-in-law, sort of. He is the father of Jennifer Russell who had been married to Jake Russell, Middleton’s Chief Police Inspector. When Jennifer lost her battle with cancer, George moved in with Jake to help take care of the children. Jake later marries Cassie, with whom they had a child, Grace. Grace has always called him “Grandpa” even though she is not really related to him at all. After Jake’s death, George moved in to Grey House and became the caretaker for the B&B.

Fun fact: There is a mix of real and artificial flowers in Abigail’s flower shop. After filming, cast and crew get to bring home fresh flowers to their families! 

Kylee Evans (Stephanie Borden)

Stephanie runs the Bistro Cafe in town. She is as sweet as the pastries she sells. She had mostly been unlucky in love but things look like they have taken a turn since she met Adam.

Fun fact: This season they built an entire kitchen for Stephanie’s Bistro Cafe. 

Scott Cavalheiro (Adam Hawkins)

Adam is a chaplain at the local hospital in Middleton. He and Stephanie began dating last season.

Fun fact: Each year, the cast and crew participate in a holiday food and toy drive, “competing” with other shows that film on the same studio lot. 

Rhys Matthew Bond (Nick Radford)

Nick is Sam’s son by Sam’s previous marriage. He, along with Grace, graduated from high school last season. He also went off to college but returns to visit his father and Cassie.

Fun fact: The British-born Bond speaks with an American accent in the series, but you can catch him with his native accent on episodes of Heartland, the same series Chris Potter is currently on. 

Marc Bendavid (Mayor Donovan Davenport)

The mayor of Blairsville finds himself under the spell of Abigail Pershing after they had some run-ins as rival mayors. Abigail finally let her guard down and the two are dating but with her being a Merriwick and he a Davenport, their relationship is a little problematic due to a centuries old curse.

Fun fact: Bendavid and Powers have been good friends for years, long before Marc’s character was introduced on the show. 

Paula Boudreau (Dotty Davenport)

Dotty is Donovan’s mom and she is not of fan of her son dating Abigail. She and Martha have been known to tussle from time to time and things will be no different in this season.

Fun fact: Over the show’s history, there have been five exteriors for the Bell, Book & Candle, the shop Cassie owns. The interior of the shop is on a soundstage at the studios where the show films. 

Katherine Barrell (Joy Harper)

Joy is a guest at Grey House and a designer with her sights on renovating a new property Mayor Tinsdale owns. There’s a bit of mystery surrounding her and hopefully we’ll get more insight into her character over the new season.

Fun fact: There are three “Catherines” on set – Catherine Bell, Catherine Disher, and Katherine Barrell. So that they don’t answer every time someone says, “Catherine” they go by Catherine, Cathy, and Kat, respectively.
