New Logo for Angry British Conservative: A Bold Shift
As the Angry British Conservative continues to grow and evolve, it’s only fitting that the branding reflects that journey. After much thought and consideration, I’ve decided to update the logo for the podcast. I’m excited to share it with you today.
My previous logo was clean, modern, and sleek. While it captured a sense of professionalism, it didn’t match the fiery energy and passion that the content embodies. As seen below.
Tumblr media
The bold ideas, strong stances, and unapologetic tone were not quite represented in the minimalistic design. It was great for a time, but as the message behind Angry British Conservative became more vivid, it felt like the logo needed to evolve with it.
So, I set out to create something new, something with more raw energy. After experimenting with a few concepts, I came up with a design that resonates much more deeply with the spirit of the podcast and blog.
The new logo brings a vintage, textured feel to the forefront, featuring a Union Jack with a slightly distressed effect.
Tumblr media
This approach gives the logo an almost rebellious tone, a reflection of the unapologetic, grassroots nature that Angry British Conservative stands for. It has a weathered, worn look that evokes a sense of history and tradition while still making a strong statement. There’s a certain ruggedness in it now that wasn’t present before, and it feels much more in line with the passion behind the message.
This updated logo isn’t just a cosmetic change; it’s a reflection of the direction in which the Angry British Conservative brand is heading. It’s about standing firm in beliefs, embracing history, and forging ahead with the determination to be heard, even when the road is tough. It’s bold, it’s raw, and it’s undeniably real.
So, as the logo changes, I hope you continue to follow the journey as the podcast and blog tackle the challenges of modern life with the same fervor and conviction they always have. With the new logo, we’re doubling down on the unapologetic, traditional, and passionate message that defines Angry British Conservatives.
Let me know what you think of the new design!

Haunting Beacon of Hope in Lower Manhattan
In superficial conversation with just about any Irish man or woman, you can quickly find common ground. At least on the surface. St Patrick’s Day, a pint of ‘the black stuff’, talk of shenanigans, of Riverdance, U2, or the great poets and playwrights will soon have those Irish eyes smiling. But take a walk down Vesey Street in Lower Manhattan, and you can find a deeper understanding of the Irish psyche.

The Irish Hunger Memorial, at the corner of Vesey and North End Avenue is, to the untrained eye at least, little more than a ramshackle mound of rocks. To the many property developers in Manhattan, this site could be manna from the heavens. But, here it boldly sits. Although it is enormously overshadowed by surrounding buildings, the Irish Hunger Memorial has earned its keep. It is place, of great symbolic and cultural significance - a haunting beacon of hope in lower Manhattan.
Tumblr media
The general consensus (in the absence of a proper census) is that over a million Irish died during An Gorta Mór; a famine of such severity, that it also literally drove another million westwards. Out into the Atlantic Ocean they fled, in desperate search of a better life.
That particular wave of Irish immigrants arrived on the east coast of America, mostly aboard ‘coffin ships’, so named due to the high mortality rates experienced while at sea.
New York was the primary port of call. Those well enough to venture out on deck, would see Manhattan - the symbolic gateway to the free world - emerge from the fog. Having fled from hunger (and some would say persecution), and having braved the north Atlantic, one remaining obstacle stood in their way. Would they be given entry? Thankfully, the frail and gaunt Irish received mercy, and were welcomed onto American soil.
They had been given a chance, and they grasped it with both hands. Life was initially tough, but it was at least a life. It was an opportunity made available by the morales and beliefs that are the cornerstones of the United States. The grateful Irish quickly applied themselves to the pursuit of those values.
Despite initially enduring overcrowded living arrangements, and forging out dangerous careers in construction and tunneling, the immigrants worked hard, in pursuit of the American dream.
From the subway tunnels and the deep foundations of Brooklyn Bridge, the Irish immigrants eventually emerged to play a major role in the continued development of their new home. They served with the fire department and law enforcement amongst others civil duties, and embraced their roles with great courage and commitment.
In the decades following their humble first foothold on the east coast, the Irish gave their labour throughout the United States. Within a hundred years, up the coast in Massachusetts, an Irish descendent was elected president of the United States of America - the leader of the free world. The epic story of the hungry Irish immigrants is a remarkable vindication of the core principals of liberty and freedom.
Today, over 40 million Americans claim Irish ancestry, making them the second most common heritage line in the United States. Irish Americans now outnumber - by almost seven-fold - the entire population of Ireland itself. Those Irish immigrants were given a chance, and they took it gratefully, going on to serve America in many ways.
Back in New York, and entering a new millenium, the seemingly insignificant little mound of rocks sits dramatically overshadowed by the Manhattan skyline. But it holds it’s ground, and serves as a haunting beacon of hope to New York and further afield.
The memorial has had to withstand adversity, which ironically serves to further justify it’s existence. That little plot of land, which symbolizes the humble circumstances of an impoverished and oppressed Irish people, has been fancifully eyed for high-rise development. The cost of maintaining the memorial has also been questioned.
The natural elements, including those of Hurricane Sandy, have also undermined the structure. Remedial works have been required. It is a clear demonstration that forcing so many footsteps onto such a small and exposed patch of rough ground can be both ill-advised and problematic. Without intervention, such a place is unsustainable. This is a hugely apt and inadvertently artistic modern reflection of what life was like in the west of Ireland of the 1840′s.
To ensure the authenticity of the structure, all of the stones and fauna on site were shipped from Ireland. The broken down cottage was donated by the Slack family, having previously been an abandoned County Mayo homestead during famine times.
Tumblr media
In equal parts symbolic and aesthetic, a winding pathway on the site passes by 32 Irish stones, each inscribed with the name of an Irish county. The pathway leads to a vantage point, a modest twenty five feet above ground, but from where a great new perspective emerges.
Looking west, across the water, the Statue of Liberty signals her approval for the new life the Irish immigrants were afforded in America. Ellis Island, which is now a National Museum of Immigration, is also visible. Just a few hundred yards further east along Vesey Street is Freedom Tower - the modern embodiment of New York and American resilience and determination to stand strong and proud in the face of those who threaten the spirit of freedom. The Irish Hunger Memorial, and it’s strategic location, offers a unique glimpse into the heart and minds of the irish and of their American cousins.
To begin to understand the Irish psyche, a visit to this unique memorial is highly recommended. While it is a place of great sadness, it serves as a beacon of hope; both in terms of tolerance and acceptance, and of the resiliance of people to withstand the elements which threaten their very existence.
The Irish Hunger Memorial not only highlights the humble origins endured by many of the Irish who arrived on America’s shores, but it’s existence on such a valuable Manhattan plot, acknowledges their valued contribution to modern day New York and America. It serves as a haunting memory of the devastation of hunger and oppression. But it also offers tremendous food for thought. It is a tonic for collective souls.
