Summary: The reader and Tyler have been chatting online for months, and now it's time for them to finally meet in real life. Porn with some plot
Warnings: 18+, smut, piv, some spitting, full on fluff
Pairing: Tyler Owens x fem!reader (2.5k words)
Tumblr media
“So, when will I get to share these songs with you face to face?” Her thumbs were hovering over her keyboard, eyes flickering from his text to her calendar. (Y/n)’s heart was pounding, beating in her chest while her teeth tugged on her lower lip.
It could be easy, too easy almost.
“How’s the weekend looking for you, you busy tornado wrangler?” Heat shot to her cheeks, leaving her to burn up while putting down her phone. This was crazy, and yet she couldn’t find it in herself to back down, not when she could finally meet him.
Him, the guy she had been texting for months now.
Him, the guy she had first bonded over music with, sharing a similar taste.
Him, the guy whose every storm chasing stream she had watched ever since he had shared more about himself with her.
“If it means I get to see you, I’ll hold it free, sweetheart.” A chuckle broke out of her. (Y/n) deeply exhaled before shaking her head at her screen. This was crazy, but the best kind of crazy, something she desperately needed to rip herself out of her daily routine.
“Count me in, I’ll book my flights now.”
……
Her thoughts were racing, just like her heart. (Y/n) moved with the big crowd, knowing that she was about to step out into the arrivals hall, where he was already waiting for her. She was unable to shake the heat sticking to her, still not fully realising that she was about to cross paths with the man she had been in touch with for months without ever meeting him.
And then she instantly saw him, eyes drawn to him like a moth to a flame, a gravitational field that left her buzzing in excitement. His strong arms found their way around her, pressing (y/n) against him while she sank into the hug.
“I can’t believe you’re finally here.” With a kiss pressed to her temple, Tyler let go of her to reach for her bag. She could only smile up at him, taking in the handsome face she had seen on her screen too many times to count.
“Thank you for picking me up.” (Y/n) tried to rip her gaze from him, eyes set on the crowd he directed her through with one hand placed on her lower back. Her mind picked apart every little detail, their height difference, the scent of his cologne she’d probably never forget again, the way his warm hand felt pressed against her back. All of it left her buzzing, tingling in excitement.
Only as she found herself sitting in his truck did she allow herself to relax and breathe. Tyler had instantly managed to lure her into a conversation, making her feel as if they had met up numerous times before today. And yet (y/n) still struggled to realise that this was really happening, that she was so close to the handsome man she had fostered a crush on for quite some time now.
“I thought tonight we could go for something slow, maybe watch a movie? And tomorrow you’ll get to meet the crew.” He shot her one of his signature smiles, hand finding her thigh for a second. The touch felt intimate, shooting heat straight to the spot while her mind hyper fixated on the way electricity kept pushing through her as if lighting kept hitting her over and over again.
“That sounds perfect, thank you.” She could already tell that a weekend was not nearly enough, parting again would hurt more than she could even imagine at that very moment.
……
The screen of his TV kept flickering on, casting shadows in the spacey living room. It had been a while since they had arrived at his place. Both had opted for some downtime first before they’d get to cooking and sharing a meal. Even though she was slowly adjusting to being around Tyler, it still felt somewhat surreal, like a dream she’d be ripped from too soon.
“Hey, are you okay?” She had her feet pressed against his thigh, eyes flickering to them as Tyler softly squeezed her skin. The touch made her sink further into the couch, hoping that the way he made her feel wasn’t all that obvious to Tyler. But the smirk slowly tugging on his lips told her that he was all too aware of the way she struggled to hold it together, unable to speak much.
Only a hum broke through (y/n), a sound that turned into a quiet gasp the second he tugged on her feet to place her legs over his thighs. One of his hands found space between her knees, grabbing her flesh while the other settled on top.
How in God's name was she supposed to survive this?
“Talk to me, sweetheart.” Tyler stopped the movie without taking his eyes off her features. She couldn’t help but wonder how he was already able to read her that well, how he managed to pick up on micro expressions even her closest friends would most likely miss.
“It’s just surreal, all of this, finally talking to you and being close to you. I knew we’d get along well, but,” the rest of her sentence was lost in the quietness of the room. Tyler’s thumb stroked along the fabric of her trousers, patiently watching her.
“But this is different.” He finally managed to finish her sentence, unable to bite down the smile both couldn’t shake now. “I know what you mean, I was hoping it’d work that well like it does when we text, but this is so much better.”
Another hum left (y/n), she pulled her legs from his grasp to shift around, finding confidence in the way he had just expressed what she had also been feeling. Slowly, carefully almost, (y/n) placed her head against his chest, instantly pulled closer by the arm finding its way around her. Tyler pressed a kiss to her hairline before he started the movie again, unable to see the bright smile she now wore, perfectly matching his.
……
(Y/n)’s legs were dangling off the kitchen counter, eyes following Tyler around as he cooked for them. Music was filling the kitchen, playing a playlist both had crafted over the past months, their own personal blend. Ever since their moment on the couch, both had been unable to shake their smiles, hearts racing in sync.
“Here, do you like that?” Tyler found himself settling between her thighs, looking at her while pushing the spoon past her parted lips. The moment had something awfully intimate to it, pushing heat through both of them. (Y/n) could only nod her head, not noticing how her legs had loosely found their way around his thighs, keeping him close.
Tyler’s thumb found her mouth, brushing away a bit of sauce clinging to her skin, a touch that made her breath hitch in her chest. She kept looking at him, getting lost in the piercing eyes that had seen more tragic glimpses of this life than (y/n) could ever imagine, and yet they were filled with a burning longing.
For a few more seconds they kept holding eye contact, torn apart by his phone timer going off. Tyler had to clear his throat before he could focus on finishing dinner, trying not to pay her intense gaze any of his attention. He knew all too well that he was close to snapping, close to crossing the last line between them to press his lips against hers.
But as much as Tyler wanted to kiss her, to taste her like he had done numerous times in his dreams, he knew that he should take things slow. He didn’t want to push things too far on their first night together, all Tyler was focused on was seeing her comfortable and happy.
“We could eat outside if you want, stars should be out by now.” Her heart was close to jumping out of her chest, freed by the heat his words made her feel. Months ago he had shared a picture of the starry sky he was fortunate enough to look at whenever he was home, a sight that had left her to confess that she desperately wanted to see them too.
“Thank you, Tyler.” (Y/n)’s words carried more meaning than he picked up on, not seeing through the adoration swimming in her pupils.
……
“Tyler.” (Y/n) mumbled his name, eyes set on his features. They were still sitting on the bench outside his home, sharing a blanket to keep them shielded from the cold night. His eyes flickered down to meet hers, patiently waiting for her to keep on speaking. “Will you finally kiss me?”
Her words drew a loud laugh from him, he shook his head at (y/n) who could only grin up at him. Tyler’s hand found her cheek, wordlessly asking her to keep on looking at him while his eyes wandered over her features, “And here I was trying to be a gentleman.”
(Y/n)’s reply was lost on the tip of her tongue as he dipped his head down. Tyler’s lips ghosted over her’s, drawing a soft whine out of (y/n) as he kept a small distance between them. Only as her hand found his jacket, tugging on the fabric to pull him closer, did he properly kiss her.
The kiss shot shudders down her spine, making hairs rise on her forearms while shuffling closer. Within moments she found herself straddling his lap, front pressed against his to cross any distance still lingering between them like two lonely ships crossing the sea to find back to one another, guided by nothing but their need to be close.
Their lips moved perfectly together, the kiss wasn't rushed, but it was fuelled by their longing which had grown stronger over the past months. Tyler’s hands settled on her waist, fingers toying with the hemline of her sweater, set on feeling her warm skin pressed against his. For a moment they broke apart, grasping onto new air to fill their burning lungs.
“Stop me anytime you want, sweetheart.” (Y/n) searched his lips again, not giving Tyler a chance to speak another word while his hands found her burning up skin. Her wandering fingers found his hairs, brushing through them to draw a moan from Tyler, a sound that vibrated on her lips and through her whole body.
He didn’t speak a warning as he suddenly stood up, holding onto (y/n) to carry her back inside. With her arms wrapped around his neck and her legs around his waist, she let him carry her inside and towards his bedroom. Both were heavily breathing after pulling apart, chests rising and falling while chuckles broke out of them.
(Y/n) let him pull her sweater over her head, exposing her bra to his wandering eyes. The groan rumbling through Tyler made her grin, letting her hands reach for his belt loops to pull him closer, expertedly undoing his belt, “I know we should take this slow, but I really need you to fuck me now after all these months.”
“You’re killing me, sweetheart.” Their eyes held contact as she freed his hardening cock, letting his trousers drop to the ground. Tyler’s moans spurred her on, allowing her to marvel at the handsome man while pumping his length a few times. But Tyler didn’t have the patience to drag this out long enough, he gave her a push back, tugged her trousers and panties down her legs while (y/n) undid her bra. “You’re the prettiest sight, fuck, I’m the luckiest man.”
“Says you, I mean look at you.” She could only stare at him as the rest of his clothing was dropped, exposing his abs and his muscular chest – all while his fingers began to wander up her legs. He pressed kisses to her soft skin, sucking on her flesh as his fingertips ghosted over her warm folds, feeling her arousal already sticking to her skin.
Tyler kept his gaze on her features as he spat down on her heat, spreading his saliva on her warm skin. He circled her pulsing bundle a few times to draw soft moans from (y/n), needing to hear them as if they were his favourite drug, high on her sounds. For a second, he parted from her to find a condom, to roll it down his cock, and to brush his tip through her folds.
“Look at me, sweetheart.” (Y/n) looked up at Tyler, feeling herself getting choked up from the way he looked at her. Something she’d only be able to describe as love swam in his pupils – a love so intense it only grew stronger as he pushed into her. Her eyes instantly fluttered shut at the sensation, fingernails scratching at his skin, walls fluttering around him. Tyler held still for a second, giving her time to adjust before he dipped his head down to kiss her.
Their bodies met with every thrust, allowing (y/n) to feel him deep inside of her, stretching her with every move. With every contact even more sinful sounds began to claw through them, reverberating through his bedroom like a song woven together from shared experiences and unspoken longings.
“You feel so good, fuck, Tyler.” Her words left him chuckling, he kissed his way down her throat, finding the spots that made her arch her back while she tightened the grasp of her legs around his waist. Tyler was fully focused on making her cum first, needing to watch her fall over the edge while knowing that he was the reason for the sweet sensation she was about to get tangled up in.
“Touch yourself, sweetheart, make yourself cum on my cock.” Tyler’s voice grew raspier and lower with every syllable he spoke. Both were staring at one another, wordlessly telling them that they were ready to let go any moment now. Her fingers moved fast, giving herself the needed push with his name bleeding from her lips.
Tyler found himself falling in love with (y/n) some more as she came, eyes taking in every inch of her pleasure drunken features. He gave it a few more thrusts before he came, letting go with a groan while (y/n) kept clinging to him.
“Christ, you’re perfect.” He pressed another kiss to her lips before pulling out. And at that moment, Tyler knew that he’d have to confess his feelings soon. Not tonight, perhaps not tomorrow morning, but the love bleeding from the tip of his tongue like a crimson river would pave the way for their following time together soon enough.

Hii this is day 2 of Juby week thank you @kraekat29 for letting me participate 🫶🏻
Tumblr media
JJ’s P.O.V
One thing that makes me the happiest man alive is my beautiful girlfriend ruby she will never know exactly how much she means to me because it's not even possible to explain how much she means to me if the world was collapsing all my mind would go to is ruby weather she knew it or not she was my whole world, my soulmate ,she’s the girl that can either break my heart or bring it back to life , the girl I can't ever live without, the girl I want to marry and have kids with..
Whenever she's around my heart speeds up, my eyes are always on her she doesn't know how much she affects me in more ways than she'd ever know , she's been here for me through thick and thin she was the one I'd run to when things got bad at home... she is my home that explains why I was in the kitchen watching her while she bakes cookies , every now and then I'd steal some of the cookie dough and she'd scold me which just makes me laugh even more , these moments like this are some of the most precious memories I've ever created I hope that we'll create many more memories in the future... in our future together
Me stealing the cookie dough was moments That was moments before she walked up to me kissing me we got in to a heated make out session which lead to our current situation with her naked body laying on my naked body , trying to catch our own breaths until I speak up.. " well I don't think them cookies are gonna be cooked now" I chuckle as she giggles hitting me softly on my chest before saying "I bet you enjoyed that more then you would have enjoyed the cookies" that just makes me smirk flipping us over my chain dangles down in front her face she leans up kissing me flipping me over takes me off guard
"As much as I'd love to do that again your forgetting that John b & sage are coming over in.." she says and looks at the time on her phone "ten minute"
"Oh shit" I curse as she kisses me once more her hands on my neck , her touch is like electricity, that electric touch she holds over me is undeniable, it makes me forget about John b and sage
She pulls away standing up as I look at her she's perfect ,her eyes, her body , her hair , her smile , her personality, heck even her angry side is amazing this woman will literally be the death of me and I'd thank her for it
"Okay as much as I'd like to stay here kissing you I don't really want my brother to walk in on that" she chuckles which makes me laugh ,  we both quickly get changed in record timing we're back in the kitchen acting as if we didn't just fuck on the couch, I'm laughing at something she said as the door knocks ruby looks at me smirking as she mouths "that was timing" I laugh and walk to the door I open it I see John b and sage standing behind it, I greet them as they walk indoors , they greet ruby while I'm closing the door they walk into the living room and sitting on the couch, I look to ruby who's smirking at me I just chuckle slightly and shake my head before going to join the others in the lounge..

Genuine questions about the Apocalyptic Genre
So, what is the shelf life of a bullet? Assuming that it was left in a box in a relatively dry, temperate room?
What would happen if it got humid / wet?
What about guns? Let's assume they're in a safe, how long can they go unoiled and ignored before they're useless?
A lot of the things Survivors in apocalypse and zombie movies find to save them just, don't seem practical to find and be able to use without any ongoing maintainence or care
And some things break down naturally (eg petrol has about 6mths of use if stored perfectly).
Fabric frays and can wear thin over time, but heat, rain, huidity and substances can increase the decay
Food is impermanent
Seeds do not last forever, unless stored Very Specifically, and your average shopping centre isn't going to.
Plastic gets brittle over time, and breaks.
A lot of stuff we use is straight up designed to fail after a certain period of time.
Medications? Forget it, you're already dead. Mobility aids? Anything that needs electricity?
Generators that aren't solar powered are likely going to be impacted after a period of time, esp fuel based.
Cars? There's a lot of little parts that can go tits up. Sure, maybe you luck out and you bunk down next to a nearby car superstore, still not going to have Everything for Every Model and Year. Headlights, wipers, etc. may sound small... but when you need them, you need them.
Tyres? Rubber wears down rapidly.
Clothes - do you know how to manufacture fabric? Sure you might run into a lincraft or spotlight in the early days and have fabric to spare in your panic hut but, at some point, someone's going buck wild. Fabric wears out.
Camping stuff? Assuming you have a tent and basic stuff? Not many are made to last forever (except some super expensive models, etc)
--------------
So, what could you reasonably expect to find say...
a) Day 1 of the apocalypse, zombie or otherwise? Probably most things.
b) Month 1 of the apocalypse? A lot of food and medications would have spoiled, industry went down even if only in certain fields, cars would be blocking the way, maybe some places have electricity and water. Depends on the area.
c) Two months? 6 months? A lot of things people assume they will find or have access to in an apocalyptic setting are gone, or not in useable condition.
d) 12 months to 2 years, even a lot of the canned stuff isn't safe. The main thing you need is common sense and a knowledge of dangerous food signs (botulism) like buldging cans.
------------
What could we possibly think to have access to, scavenger wise?
Let's assume that that apocalypse was a devastation that did not involve aliens or zombies or being hunted. The rules would be different. Not a lot of humanity left.
+First things would be checking house to house in a radius out from your own to find people and animals that have been left. Free who you can. Livestock might need to have gates opened so they can move to somewhere with more grass or food... if you are not used to livestock, use your brain but also try to find someone who might have more of a clue how to move them safely.
+Take inventory of what you have on you and have access to, food, water, clothes, etc.
+One good zombie apocalypse podcast mentioned that day one they had everyone fill up all containers and bathtubs and buckets with water in case the power went out. Sounds good. If you have tanks, make sure you have a ladder somewhere, to do the old 'how much' test.
+Some way to make fire. The flick lighter you have now will work, until it runs dry... start thinking of other options from day 1, because that day will come. The wood sticks and friction works, but is slow, flint/steel not everyone has options, two stones can take ages to spark, etc.
+Probably cutlery and some cooking items. Worth collecting, esp if its more than just you and you lost your own home / were a brand new uni person with nothing in the apartment.
+If you have a cooler, but no access to ice, it might not be ideal. In the first days, though, you might have a chance to use it with ice for meat and other items. Ice boxes are brilliant and last DAYS if used right, without a change to ice. But not a forever option.
The question is if you then need to move somewhere cooler.
+If you raided a school you could get one of those big plastic drink containers to store water in. Or most bunnings type places have the 20L water containers, some with spouts. Bonus of getting a trolley thing to pull it about in. Its about a lot of water that can be ported as needed. They are uncomfy to lug hand-wise over distance, because of the way it dangles of your arm, but if you got creative with ties, you could backpack it.
+Bags. Different shapes and types, especially backpacks.
+Water bottles, or containers like thermos that would hold stuff for long treks, etc. Most camping stores could have the little pouches and the long straw but like... you get a bit of mildew in there and the whole thing is a pain to clean etc.
+Assuming you can settle somewhere, and are not 100% mobile the whole time, you'd be focused on being somewhere with access to wood for fire (food, heat, light) depending on the type of apocalypse.
+Cheap stores could be plundered in the early times for shitty items that might work a few times, and basic hygiene items. You don't need brand name if you're desperate to be clean. Soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, a towel or two, etc. They won't last foreever, but when a towel starts to die out, it becomes other things like rags,, something to patch up a hole in the wall, fire starter material (most are polycotton)
Stuff that you need in the moment but can replace as life goes on.
+A basic toolkit, might last a while (live in a Bunnings, you might have a chance to rebuild society lmao, garden section, tools, even dog and cat foods there too if you manage to get out with your furry fam)
+In any school or ofice there should be at least one orange over full first aid kit. Grab it. The things in it will need a bit of updating over time, and discarded after a time.
+Pharmacy - you're gonna need meds and a local medicine wizard who can find solutions for the meds that run out and aren't replaced, if any.
+Paper and pens, something to help you leave notes for others to let them know where you are, or where to get help. Even just keep diary and inventory. You could try carving on rock but who has the time?
+Seeds and fertiliser. This'd need to happen earlier o, and if water is scarce you might need to get creative - is there a dam nearby or a creek they could plant near? Can you get soe of those Easy Planters that have a little wate tray under that kind of manages itself.
At least one shovel. If the rich try to raise prices on things... remember, a lot of fertiliser can be improved through the addition of blood and bone.
+I'd raid the library for things like a Big Book of First Aid, any book that told of native foods and poisonous plants, any How To Guides, and also some novels of different kinds to make sure no one was going to lose their minds. Maybe steal a whiteboard and some markers, so you can teach others these things, because hopefully there'd be a community starting up to replace what was lost.
Hopefully, the librarians wouldnt kill you.
+Cloth, pillows, bedding (possibly from stores or from abandoned homes of the gone), even scraps from the op shops and general clothes. Thread - try to find the cotton stuff, the plastic 2 dollar stuff from cheap stores tends to snap easy, esp with too much tension. fine for little stuff tho.
Coathangers too, you want this stuff up off the ground and not in a Pile. that's snake heaven and also a quick way for it to molder. Where possible, for a community, you'd want to find a way to get and store clothes of all ages and sizes because there'll be kids, and they grow so goddamn fast. Shoes... are negotiable.
+Lots of those Put 'em together Yourself furniture items will die if too old, wet or simply the stars are aligned wrong. Plan further out whn possible.
+Fuel - we know it doesn't last forever. Also a lot of chemicals will likely either be inert or super dangerous after a period of time, be careful handling bottles you find, etc.
+Food - finding in the initial, no wokkas. OVer time? Flour doesn't last forever. You can get eggs if you have food for chickens and the shelter for them. Maybe if you have a butcher you would be able to manage the acquisition of meat... or make do.
I have thought about Farming in the Apocalypse. The problem with the idea of a protagonist just Finding a farm and mangically getting food is that, that's not how it works.
Any farming family can tell you that there's so many different parts to a farm, turning crops, caring for cows and cattle, even just milking must be done regularly or the cows can have severe problems or die. Sheep need regular care and shearing, and also you have to manage them so they don't get flyblown, etc.
You can't turn the tractors on after a certain time, the harvesters, etc. You'd need to think about possible acres of fields needing to be managed by hand. Some crops get burned to stubble, how can that be safely managed? What do you, random possible city protagonist, know about rotating crops?
Do yuo understand what to do for animal husbandry? Hopefully someone from one of the families around would be there, and able to guide and manage it overall, train the survivors, but that never works out in movies.
You might have eggs, milk, meat, and some forms of food in this situation (depending on the farm, some are specifically one or two things), not much fruit
You would need to find a fruit solution, even if you have to raid a shopping centre for rotting fruit to see if you can salvage the seeds. IT would take time to cultivate, even if it did.
Could reach out to any horticulturists who survived, I guess.
+If you can learn to cure the skins, you'd have leather. It needs some human intervention, and piss, so someone would find joy in that...
You can use leather for clothes, shoes, bags, waterskeins (find yourself a medieval reenactor, most can do it themselves), tents, even (if done right) a makeshift pot on the fire. Absolutely fascinating what can be done with it, and it lasts.
----------
There's so much I think about when it comes to the apocalypse.
Maybe it wouldn't be the most exciting to read/listen to someone eeking out each day in the world left behind, but imagine the story.
Even several stories of people all over hte globe finding new ways to keep going. Some countries would barely be affected, given they alreay live between modern and traditional, and that duality is passed down to the following generations.
But in the industrialised world, where everything is from somewhere so removed from us that the public couldn't work out how to cook a roast on a fire without etting it aflame... like, ometimes I wonder.
The possibilities are endless.
The loss of what is known and the distress of realising that the loss isnt finished. It's going to keep going... again and again, as food runs out, clothes wear away, cars stop working, fuel goes inert, what was known corrodes and either you adapt, or let it drive you inwards.
It could be more fun if the only worry in the apocalyptic wastelands isn't 'need guns, and gun food (bullets)' - also sex.
Sure, that's a human desire but like, we can swing by the adult toy store and see if there's someone inflatable for you to chill with until we get basic needs going, because a baby would be the Worst Thing right now. Actually, what is the expiry date on most contraceptives?
I mean, you'd need weapons. Esp in a farming situation... sometimes births go wrong or an animal breaks their leg, or they're poisoned and suffering. Like, you have to manage that. Especially in a time without vets at the snap of a finger.
There's some practicalities, apart from just This Is Our Town Stranger as part of the dramatic climax, where they then have an Intense Head Nod during an ensuing fight, and now Stranger is One of Us.
I have no idea where this was going lmao, I have been thinking about how silly some of the Survival nonsense is in movies and books and podcasts.
And everything again changes if you are contending with being hunted by aliens, the infected/zombies, animals, etc...
But you can't eat bullets... except in one way. You can't quench thirst with a well oiled gun. Also, guns are loud, I know that gets brought up a lot but what is the fastest way to alert someone to your location? Firework boom boom. Get a damn axe. And a GRINDSTONE. Blunt ones won't split skulls or carapaces or whatevs.

28 Failed Attempts and 1 Heist Later- Chapter 1
Ao3 link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/50958199/chapters/128740585
It was obvious, if you paid attention that is, that Hobie Brown's love language towards others was Acts of Service. It's how he showed he cared. Such as when he made his own interdimensional watch to help Gwen rescue Miles and let her crash in his dimension, or when he tried to give Miles advice on his electrical powers, or even when he looked after Mayday when Peter got busy or just needed a break. Really it wasn't difficult to see that when Hobie cared about someone he tried to do things that would help them or make them happy. That's why when he finally got the bottle to confess to his best spider-mate, Pavitr Prabhakar, he decided to do a meaningful gesture to confess his fancy.
Pavitr was a bloody amazing lad in his eyes: brilliant, full of beans, incredibly strong, a real ace Spider-Man, and a right-fit bloke as well. He never seemed to let life get him down too long, always looking for a positive and keeping good humor about him. He knew when to get serious and deeply cared for his friends. When Pav had learned he didn't always have steady meals back in his dimension not only did he give Hobie an open invitation to pop in for a meal whenever he fancied but insisted on teaching him some proper Indian dishes so he could feed himself. Who wouldn't fall for a boy like that?
This led him to where he was now, in his kitchen a month before his planned confession trying to figure out how to not muck up a simple dal recipe. Masoor daal, or red lentils, was a relatively simple recipe Pav made for him before, so he thought he'd give it a go. All he really had to do was wash the lentils, fry up his aromatics, add in the lentils with water and some seasonings (Pav had stressed to him just salt and pepper was in no way enough seasoning), and cook until they reached the desired soft daal texture. Easy right? What could possibly go wrong?
-15 minutes later-
BEEEP! BEEEP! BEEEP! BEE-
Hobie frantically pushed open a window, coughing and trying to get the smoke and smell out of his kitchen. How did I even manage to burn the aromatics three seconds after putting them in? I thought oil boiled not burned! A quick consultation with the internet and the old Punjabi couple living a few blocks down revealed he should adjust the heat level and peel his ginger before use, or substitute it with ginger paste, which he decided to forgo wanting the dish to be as close to Pavi's daal as possible well there was still time to try to perfect it.
-5 days later-
On his next attempt, Hobie forgets to add the aromatics altogether and while edible the dish is rather lacking
-1 week later-
On his 12th attempt, Hobie get runs out of spices and the daal comes out just a touch too bland. He sighs to himself and resolves to acquire more before his next attempt.
-the next day-
On his 13th attempt, Hobie is reequipped with spices. Unfortunately for him, he goes a little heavy-handed with the garam masala. Even the Cheema's ( the old Punjabi couple) find it a bit difficult to choke down.
-1 lifetime later-
It is Hobie's 21st attempt and he thinks he's really got it this time. That is until his spider-hearing picks up a kerfuffle that sounds like the beginnings of a brawl. He takes glance a at the stove, telling himself he'll only be gone jiffy before swinging out the window. By the time he gets back, the daal is pitifully mushy and unappetizing.
-1 eternity later-
It is Hobie's 29th and final practice attempt before he confesses to Pavitr in three days. He finds himself saying a little prayer to the food gods that this attempt is successful. He carefully prepped his ingredients, adjusted the heat, and figured out the spice ratio and the exact cook time. All that was left to do was pray he hadn't managed to fuck up in some new way this time. Upon the taste test, Hobie nearly cries tears of joy. It was nowhere near as good as Pav made it, the cumin tasted slightly burnt, there were small chunks of garlic in it, and it was just a tad too soft but it was edible and tasted like daal, admittedly subpar daal, but daal none the less.
Hobie reveled in his victory, giggling to himself while packing some up for the Cheema's to try, the sweet couple gave him some surprisingly harsh feedback and great advice on cooking in the last month. Just as he was about to leave he got a notification on his watch, a message from Pav reminding him that the gang would be having a meet-up today "where the British stole all our stuff". Suddenly, a light bulb went off in Hobie's head. A devilish grin spread across his face. Well, now there's an idea that's more my speed.

Chicken curry pasta recipe
Tumblr media
I'm taking an intermediate English course trying to improve my English, as my level right now is classified as "basic" and I'm pretty sure I speak English fairly better than the average spaniard... So I've decided to practise a bit by describing how I made my dinner today.
Bear in my mind that my current... Apartment, which isn't an apartment, it's just a shared room, doesn't have a kitchen, so I resorted to buying an electric pot since there's fire alarms and I cook by the window.
Please do not take this recipe as a strict guideline, feel free to deviate or improvise, as that's exactly what I do because, in my situation, I do not have a traditional kitchen, it's just a pot and it's possible to cook almost the same dishes in it as in an usual kitchen. In fact, if you want to have pasta with chicken curry it's probably way better to first prepare the meat and the sauce then mix it with the already cooked pasta afterwards. This is an alternative because, like I said before, I only have a single pot to work with.
Back on topic, the first step I take is dicing the chicken breast then searing it, there's a program specifically for searing on the pot but it's fine if you just use high heat on a non-stick pot with a teaspoon of your preferred cooking grease, I use olive oil but butter will work too. Salt, pepper and parsley, then stir every minute or so and when it's finally getting brown set it aside for now... In order to do this myself I have to use my cereal bowl ayyy...
Now for the sauce, which impressed me because it's actually so easy to make and I looove it, I chopped half a red onion this time because I didn't notice I ran out of onions, but it's fine if you drop an entire chopped onion into the pot as it won't make much difference. I also peeled 3 garlic cloves and stir fried them alongside the onion on once again high heat. Don't forget to salt the vegetables to taste.
The onion will start to become transparent as it cooks, approximately a minute after that I added 5 spoonfuls of crushed tomatoes, this measure is kind of a pain in the butt to deal with but it's a bit less of the half of the average 400g can approximately so you can just pour half of it, adding more or less quantity will just make it longer to cook.
Keep the heat high and let the vegetables mix together for a while. The next step is adding a teaspoon of curry, careful with it as it's a strong spice, but despite that I like adding an extra teaspoon of it. With it you must also pour the cooking cream, I poured an entire 200ml tetra brik of cooking cream, the ones that come in packs of three, lower the heat to medium and that's the way to make curry sauce.
But here's the special part of my recipe, I still need to cook the pasta and I don't have another pot to spare. In order to do this, the next step is as simple as pouring; a glass of water (around 200ml), the previously cooked chicken and a handful of your preferred pasta into the pot. It's going to look watery and horrible, but that water is just a means to an end, it will go away.
Tumblr media
If your chosen pasta is not short, it's going to take a bit while the pasta softens and sinks down but once it does, you can shut the pot and let it simmer for around 10 minutes. You can use the boiling time of your pasta as a reference instead, which is usually stated in the package. Once the time is up open the pot and star stirring and tasting the meal yourself. When I opened it the pasta wasn't done yet so I kept stirring it until it was cooked. Your visual cue for the moment the dish is done is seeing the sauce condensed, not being watery anymore.
And that's it. Please feel free to tell me if anything I wrote sounded awkward or weird to you, specially british or american feedback would be really useful to me. Thank you!

Winterizing Your Home
Old man winter has reared his head as we are now headed for cold weather. After concentrating on hurricanes and rainstorms, we now have the chore of prepping our homes and investment properties from cold weather related problems. Here’s a few suggestions to make the winter a little easier for us all.
First, make sure that the insulation in your attic is sufficient for your area. If it seems lacking in depth or amount, a cheap fix is blown in insulation. This covers well, keeps in the heat and is done very fast. Many companies that do this are listed in the yellow pages or business section of the phone book. Also, the pink stuff (in rolls) is equally effective for your attic. All exterior walls should have insulation, so when you are doing rehabs or adding to a house, make sure you insulate any outer walls.
Tumblr media
Next is caulking. Use a good quality latex and silicone combo caulk such as White Lightning brand or Dap Alex. These are 25 to 40 year caulks with low price and water clean up. Check all areas around the house for a good and proper caulking job. Anywhere that has damaged caulk or is in need of some is one of the most common areas we lose heat and a/c and our bills skyrocket. You will want to caulk around all doors, windows, cornerboards, siding, vents and such. Cracks in siding should be done as well as entry areas on the house such as water spigots and where electrical wires come into the house. Exhaust vents for fans and clothes dryers too. Its also a good idea to get those Styrofoam covers that connect on to your outside water spigots to protect from freezing temps leading to busted water pipes. For just pennies per foot, you can buy foam insulation for your exposed water pipes in your basement or garage (the most common places for busted water pipes from freezing).
Weather stripping around doors and windows can rob you from heat as well. Most hardware stores can sell you rolls of weatherstripping and it’s easily installed by any “do it yourselfer”. As far as this area goes, don’t forget the part under your doors on the threshold. This area is almost always forgotten and usually needs replacing the most. Open all your entrance doors and check the threshold for wear and tear. You’ll be glad you did. For those pesky drafts that get through the window sills and under doorways, you can buy or make what we call a draft snake, These are just round fabrics filled with whatever you want and made to the size of the bottoms of doors and window sill. This keeps the wind from coming in under the doors or sills. Use these anywhere that drafts give you a chill.
A furnace check will insure that all will fire up ok. A clean filter and a newly serviced unit will be far more efficient than one that needs checking. This is also inexpensive and insures a safe, warm season. You may also want to have your airducts cleaned. This removes debris as well as allergens that can be carried throughout the house. In addition, a chimney sweep can come and service your fireplace to make possible some great cozy nights in front of the fire.
Make sure that your garage doors seat well on the ground when closed. You may need to put some rubber stripping on the bottom to seal any open spots. You can also use storm windows and doors to greatly improve keeping the cold outside. Cover your attic vents to keep cold from entering the roof area and if the temp falls below freezing, let your faucets drip. If you have a propane tank for heating or cooking or water heaters, make sure to have it filled.
Last, if you are going to use space heaters, make sure they are in properly vented areas and away from furniture and curtains as fire may be caused. Electric heaters are my recommendation because there are no harmful fumes to deal with. Well, I hope these tips will make your winter better, warmer and less expensive….see you next issue.   Mr. Rehab….Pete Youngs

Embracing the Digital Revolution in Our Everyday Lives
100%
It’s fascinating how effortlessly we’ve grown accustomed to the sheer abundance of technology that envelopes our daily lives. The conveniences it brings often become so seamlessly integrated that we forget to acknowledge its profound impact. And so, we can sometimes overlook the fact that the ultimate goal of technology, when wielded effectively, is to enhance our life experiences significantly.
Tumblr media
Elevating Life’s Quality through Innovations
Take, for example, the morning ritual of brewing a cup of coffee. What was once a mundane chore can now become a joy with cutting-edge appliances like the Siemens or Gaggenau coffee machines. These smart machines not only have your aromatic brew prepared precisely when you want it but can also send you a reminder message to savour your drink.
Similarly, consider the Miele oven that smartly regulates its temperature while a meal is being prepared, liberating you from the stress of ensuring your food doesn’t get charred. These smart appliances illustrate how the digital age has not only revolutionised our work lives but has also made our homes more responsive to our needs.
This constant connectivity, while met with differing degrees of enthusiasm, has significant advantages. One of the standout perks is the potential to simplify routine tasks. Siemens has pioneered this field, offering smart solutions that have set an industry trend. Take, for instance, their range of high-end ovens. If you’re a Miele customer and own one of these top-tier appliances, you can access a plethora of recipes designed by renowned chefs – all available for free download. These culinary guides are pre-programmed into your oven, which then automatically monitors and adjusts the cooking times and temperatures, notifying you once your meal is perfectly cooked.
Tumblr media
Enhanced Safety and Convenience in Everyday Routines
Another motivating factor behind the rapid evolution of kitchen technology is safety. The induction hob is an impressive advancement in this regard. Brands like Gaggenau have further innovated with their Flex Induction Cooktop, which senses the shape of the pan and heats only that specific area. This not only ensures even cooking but also reduces electricity wastage.
Miele has extended this concept with a similar product that recognises the pan and maintains a consistent temperature regardless of its placement on the hob. This is an exciting step towards intelligent cooking appliances that not only improve usability but also contribute to safety.
Tumblr media
Technology: A Valuable Ally against Waste
Technology can also become an effective instrument in minimising wastage, thus promoting more sustainable lifestyles. A prime example is a vacuum drawer from brands like Miele, traditionally used to achieve tender cooked meat. This device also enables more efficient storage of leftover ingredients and can even reseal jars, thus extending the life of various food items. This feature can be a boon for families preparing meals in advance or for individuals and couples looking to optimise ingredient usage.
Innovative fridges equipped with intelligent air filters to combat bacteria, expiry date detectors, and even automatic food ordering systems when supplies run low, contribute to waste prevention while adding to user convenience. Similarly, Miele’s dishwasher innovation includes a single-use PowerDisc that provides detergent for multiple washes and automatically orders a new one when supplies run low. Similar features are also available in modern washing machines. The result is an optimal use of time, less packaging waste, and overall greater efficiency.
In an age overflowing with technology, it can sometimes become challenging to appreciate the opportunities it presents. The underlying objective is not merely to proliferate technology for its own sake but to utilise it in ways that truly amplify your lifestyle, foster your wellbeing, and echo your core values. Let’s embrace these marvels of technology, recognising them as an enriching part of our day-to-day lives.

What to Look for When Buying Your First Motorhome: A Beginner's Guide
So, you’re thinking about buying your first motorhome? First of all—welcome to the club! 🌍 Whether you're dreaming of weekend getaways, full-time van life, or road trips that take you off the beaten path, getting your first motorhome is exciting. But let's be real—it can also feel a bit overwhelming. There are so many options, features, and questions you didn’t even know you had. Trust me, I've been there! 😅
Tumblr media
Here’s a little guide from someone who's been down this road (literally). If you’re new to the motorhome world, here are a few things to consider before diving into your first purchase:
1. Size Does Matter—But Bigger Isn’t Always Better
I know the idea of a spacious motorhome sounds amazing. But remember, size impacts everything—where you can park, how easy it is to drive, and how much fuel you’ll burn. If you’re planning on hitting narrow country roads or squeezing into city parking, a smaller rig might make life a whole lot easier. But if you’re living in it full-time, more space can feel like a lifesaver. It’s all about balance!
2. New or Used?
Ah, the age-old debate. 💭 New motorhomes come with the latest gadgets, shiny interiors, and (hopefully) fewer problems right out of the gate. But they can also come with a hefty price tag. On the flip side, used motorhomes might have some wear and tear, but you can score a great deal if you’re willing to shop around. Bonus: if the previous owners have already done upgrades, that’s one less thing for you to worry about!
3. The Floor Plan Is Everything
Seriously. Take time to walk through different layouts. Does it feel comfortable to move around? Does the bed size work for you? Can you cook without bumping into the fridge every five seconds? 😆 Trust me, what looks good in pictures can feel cramped in real life. Prioritize what you need—whether that’s a comfy living area, lots of kitchen counter space, or a bathroom that doesn’t feel like a shoebox.
4. Storage: You’ll Need More Than You Think
If you’re going to be living in your motorhome for long stretches of time, storage becomes crucial. Clothes, camping gear, cooking equipment, tools—it all adds up. Make sure there’s enough room to stash everything you’ll need (and inevitably collect along the way).
5. Test Drive Like You Mean It
This isn’t just your everyday car purchase—your motorhome is going to be your home on wheels. Take it for a serious test drive. How does it handle corners? Can you easily maneuver it? How does it feel on highways versus smaller roads? You’ll be spending a lot of time driving this beast, so it needs to feel right.
6. Check for the Basics—Water, Power, Heating
A motorhome isn’t just about four walls and wheels; it’s about functionality. Make sure to ask questions about the water system (tank size, water heater), electrical setup (how easy is it to hook up, battery power), and heating options (important if you’re camping in colder weather). You don’t want to end up somewhere beautiful but freezing—or worse, with no way to cook food!
7. Set Your Budget (And Don’t Forget the Extras)
Motorhomes aren’t just about the initial cost. Factor in expenses like insurance, fuel, maintenance, and parking fees. Plus, once you buy it, there’s a good chance you’ll want to personalize it—hello, cozy curtains and solar panels! 😉 Make sure you budget for those extras, too.
Buying your first motorhome is a wild ride, and while it’s easy to get caught up in all the shiny features, it’s important to find something that fits your needs and lifestyle. Take your time, ask all the questions, and don’t rush the process. Before you know it, you’ll be driving off into the sunset, ready to start your next adventure. 🌅
Have any of you bought your first motorhome recently? Any tips or stories you want to share? Let’s chat in the comments!
Safe travels! ✌️

Utilities: Don’t forget about extra costs like electricity, internet, and heating, which can add another $100 to $300 per month.
Food: Whether you cook at home or eat out, food expenses vary widely. On average, budget about $300 to $600 per month for groceries and meals.
Transportation: If you live far from campus, transportation costs will add up. In big cities, public transportation passes can cost about $100 to $150 per month, while having a car might mean paying for gas, insurance, and parking, which could add $200 or more monthly.
Visa and Health Insurance for International Students
If you're studying abroad, you’ll need to account for visa and health insurance costs. For instance, the US F-1 visa costs around $160, while European countries have varying visa fees, typically between €50 to €150.
Health insurance is also a must. In the US, health insurance for international students can cost between $1,000 to $3,000 per year, depending on the coverage. In countries like Germany, public health insurance is more affordable, usually around €80 to €150 per month.
Working Part-Time: Earning While Studying
Many students work part-time to help cover their living expenses. Most countries allow international students to work while studying, but the rules differ. In the US, students can work up to 20 hours per week during the academic year, often earning around $8 to $15 per hour. During school breaks, students can work full-time.
In Germany, international students can work 120 full days or 240 half days per year, while France allows students to work about 964 hours annually. These part-time jobs won’t cover your tuition, but they can help with rent, food, and other living expenses.
Cost vs. Benefits: What’s the Return on Investment?
While the Masters in Engineering Management cost can seem daunting, it’s essential to look at the bigger picture. MEM graduates often find well-paying jobs in fields like technology, consulting, and manufacturing. Depending on the industry and location, starting salaries for MEM graduates can range from $80,000 to $120,000 per year.
For example, if you become a Project Manager or Operations Manager at a tech company in Silicon Valley or Seattle, you could earn a higher-than-average salary. Even in European countries like Germany or Switzerland, engineering managers are highly sought after, and salaries reflect the demand.
Conclusion
Pursuing an MEM is a significant financial investment, but with proper planning, it’s manageable and can pay off with a rewarding career. To reduce the burden, explore scholarships, financial aid, and part-time job opportunities. Keep in mind that the Masters in Engineering Management cost goes beyond tuition—it includes living expenses, visa fees, and health insurance as well.
By being aware of these costs and planning ahead, you’ll be in a strong position to make the most of your MEM program and set yourself up for long-term success.

The Ultimate Guide to Cleaning and Maintaining Your Commercial Griddle
Tumblr media
In the fast-paced world of commercial kitchens, keeping your equipment functioning smoothly is paramount.  Among the workhorses of any kitchen, the trusty griddle sees constant action, searing steaks, sizzling onions, and churning out breakfast favorites. But even the most robust KitchenPro griddle needs some TLC to maintain peak performance. This ultimate guide will equip you with the knowledge and techniques to effectively clean and maintain your commercial griddle, ensuring it delivers delicious results for years to come.
Understanding Your Griddle
The first step to proper maintenance is understanding the makeup of your griddle.  Most commercial griddles feature a thick steel griddle plate  heated by powerful gas burners or electric elements.  A key aspect is the surface –  either chrome-plated steel or a non-stick coating. Knowing this will determine the cleaning solutions and tools you can safely use.
Daily Cleaning Routine
After each service period, it's crucial to establish a daily cleaning routine to prevent grease buildup and lingering food particles.
Turn off and Unplug: Ensure your griddle is completely off and cool before cleaning. Never attempt to clean a hot griddle!
Scrape Off Excess Food: Use a heavy-duty metal scraper to remove any large food particles stuck to the griddle surface. Hold the scraper at an angle and apply firm, even pressure to avoid damaging the griddle plate.
Deglaze the Griddle: Deglazing involves loosening and dissolving stuck-on food debris. Pour a small amount of water or vinegar onto the hot griddle plate (be cautious of hot steam) and use the scraper to gently move the liquid across the surface, scraping up loosened food particles.
Deep Cleaning Your Griddle
For a more thorough clean, schedule regular deep cleaning sessions, ideally weekly or bi-weekly.
Apply Cleaning Solution: Once the griddle is cool, prepare a cleaning solution based on your griddle's surface type. For chrome griddles, a solution of hot water and baking soda or a commercial grill cleaner works well. If you have a non-stick griddle, opt for a non-abrasive cleaner specifically formulated for non-stick surfaces. Never use harsh chemicals, bleach, or abrasive scouring pads, as they can damage the surface.
Scrub the Griddle Plate: Apply the cleaning solution to a grill brick or a non-abrasive cleaning pad and scrub the griddle plate thoroughly. Pay particular attention to areas with heavy grease buildup.
Clean Around the Griddle: Don't forget to clean the areas surrounding the griddle plate, including the grease trap, drip pan, and exterior surfaces. Wipe them down with a damp cloth and cleaning solution, removing any grease splatter.
Rinse and Dry: Once everything is scrubbed clean, rinse the griddle plate thoroughly with clean water. Use squeegees or towels to remove excess moisture and allow the griddle to air dry completely before re-heating.
Maintaining Your KitchenPro Griddle
Here are some additional tips specific to maintaining the longevity of your kitchenpro griddle:
Seasoning a Chrome Griddle: New chrome griddles require seasoning to create a protective layer that prevents sticking. Heat the griddle to medium-high and apply a thin layer of cooking oil. Let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe off any excess. Repeat this process two to three times for optimal seasoning.
Daily Oil Coating: Before each use, lightly coat the griddle plate with a thin layer of cooking oil to prevent sticking and promote even heat distribution.
End-of-Shift Maintenance: At the end of each shift, leave the griddle on low heat for about 15 minutes. This allows any leftover food particles to burn off, making cleaning easier.
Troubleshooting Common Griddle Problems
Uneven Heating: This could be due to faulty heating elements or uneven distribution of food on the griddle. Ensure the griddle is properly leveled and check the heating elements for any visible damage.
Sticking Food: An unseasoned griddle (for chrome surfaces) or inadequate preheating can cause sticking. Ensure proper seasoning and preheat the griddle to the desired temperature before adding food.
Thermostat Issues: If your griddle isn't maintaining temperature, the thermostat might be malfunctioning. Consult a qualified technician for repairs.
By following these simple cleaning and maintenance practices, you can ensure your KitchenPro griddle (or any commercial griddle) delivers consistent performance and delicious results for years to come.  Remember, a well-maintained griddle is not only essential for churning out quality food but also promotes safety and hygiene in your commercial kitchen.

Microwave Safety: Tips for Safe Usage and Maintenance
Tumblr media
Modern kitchen equipment, such as the microwave, improves how every room in the house runs. A microwave is becoming an essential equipment for cooking and other household tasks because of how handy it is. The microwave does all tasks, including heating, baking, and even frying.
While technology has significantly simplified our lives in the kitchen, it also has a number of concerns. Due to improper handling of the device, burns, overheating, fire, and in a few rare instances, radiation damage, have been documented. If you use a microwave frequently, it's crucial to be knowledgeable about all the dangers it poses and how to avoid them. Do not forget to contact microwave oven repair services in that case.
Here are Some Safe Microwave Usage Tips
1. Each microwave has unique features and functionalities. Before using the microwave, it's vital to read the manufacturer's instructions. The user handbook includes instructions that detail suggested operating methods and safety measures.
2. Incompatible containers can result in undercooking and uneven cooking, and they can even catch fire and harm the microwave. The FDA advises using glass, ceramic, and plastic containers that are marked for microwave usage.
3. Avoid using aluminium foil or metal pans because they reflect microwaves. Additionally, using ordinary plastic containers is not a good idea because heat might melt them.
4. Keep hot water out of your microwave. Water that has been "super-heated" has been heated above the boiling point without causing it to boil. If water is heated over the boiling point, even the slightest movement or disturbance might cause the water to forcefully erupt out of the cup.
5. Regularly check your microwave for any form of leaks. Be on the lookout for any odd gas eruptions or strange scents. Additionally, the FDA advises against using an oven if the door doesn't close securely or is twisted, deformed, or in any other way damaged.
6. In order to stop radiation from escaping, microwaves are made to only work with doors closed. Use caution while using ovens that appear to function with the door open. If this occurs, the FDA advises that you cease using a microwave oven very away.
If you find any problem in your device then you must search for microwave repair service near me to get the solution.
7. To prevent fire inside the microwave, do not use any metal containers, metal utensils, or cookware with metal handles or trimmings. Before cooking food in the microwave, always remove the aluminium foil from it. Additionally, avoid using paper utensils or disposable paper cups for heating and cooking.
8. Avoid heating or cooking any food or drink that has a high potential for catching fire. The heating of such materials might result in a microwave explosion or fire.
9. Food and drink that have been sealed in packaging should not be heated. Such materials can explode inside the microwave when heated. Remove the food from its sealed container before heating it on a microwave-safe dish or utensil.
10. Keep the microwave out of the way of heat sources in the kitchen. Avoid placing it next to or below any cooking or heating equipment. This can cause the microwave to overheat.
11. When using a microwave, avoid covering the top vent. Additionally, don't use aluminium foil to cover any portion of the microwave. This may cause the appliance to overheat and occasionally even increase the danger of a fire.
12. Never try to use a microwave with the door open since doing so might expose you to microwave energy.
13. Keep the oven door closed and promptly shut off the power if any food or materials inside the oven catch fire.
14. After cooking or heating, let the dish or utensil rest in the microwave for a few seconds before removing it. This will lower the hot container's temperature and reduce the danger of burns or other injuries to the user.
15. To prevent fire or electric shock, oversize food containers shouldn't be cooked in a microwave.
16. Never use a microwave as a storage device; only keep the accessories the manufacturer suggests inside.
Only trained professionals should do maintenance on the microwave oven. In order to examine, repair, or calibrate your microwave, only contact professionals. There are many options you will get because now microwave repair at home is possible.
