Rant about Fakeclaiming culture

in my time in the DID community online, i've only ever been fakeclaimed once. the reason was stupid, and was also just hypocritical, and also never said directly to our face because the person was a raging quivering pussy.

on the topic of fakeclaiming, it's lowkey stupid to me. most the time they're actively searching for reasons to doubt someone's disorder, and the reasons turn out to be so stupid. i saw someone say:

"You can tell someone's faking DID if their alters have names, pronouns, and different thoughts and opinions on things."

like wow it's almost as if the disorder is called Dissociative Identity Disorder and those are the key factors that make up an identity.

and the people saying shit like this aren't even mental health professionals or have DID themselves. they're getting their information from people just like them and media that depicts DID as "i have... other beings in my mind.. i don't know anything about them, and i'm just a scared sweet person with some kind of... monster inside me..."

unless you're spreading blatant misinformation about the disorder and making it look stupid, i personally don't give a shit if you're faking. if you are or i think you are for some reason, then i'll just block you? i'm not gonna make a big deal abt it because i know someone eventually will.

also, just being told in general, "You don't actually have DID, you're just faking or you're crazy." is... scary? take it in this perspective:

You're in a really dark mental place, you can't remember major events and you keep having flashbacks. You get help for this and find out you have DID after months of treatment and evaluation, and everything finally starts to make sense. Then some random person you've never met before who doesn't even know your last name claims you don't actually have DID because "That's not how it shows itself.", and suddenly all the work you've done to make sense of your experiences comes crumbling down and you enter self doubt and all your hard work goes away.

you may say, "well that's a bit dramatic", remember that people with DID are traumatized and will have major reactions to things that may seem smaller to other people.

anyway fakeclaiming it's stupid and is mostly based off dumbass stigmatization of the disorder
