let's go fly a kite-
for @lgcyichen
"oh... i'm not sure..." he begins, pressing his lips together to prevent the snort that wants to leave him watching yichen for a moment. believe or not, he had never flown a kite before, despite being from the u.k. he had never really come up-- his mother was never the type to be out and about, at least not for... trivial things like that. but really, he wasn't upset at this activity either. learning had turned into more fun than he could have ever thought, and it gave him a chance to know people more, as well as humor him.
like watching yichen, which he was sure, was tangling the kite until it was nearly stuck in a tree, making him hide a laugh with a cough. "not at easy as we thought. at least the weather not the... worst."

" Let's go fly a kite, Up to the highest height! Let's go fly a kite and send it soaring. Up through the atmosphere, Up where the air is clear, Oh let's go fly a kite"
~~ "Let's Go Fly A Kite," from Disney's Mary Poppins. Song by David Tomlinson, Dick Van Dyke, and The Londoners

Sukuna as a firefighter (Part 3)
<- Previous
The world was against you. There was no other explanation for your current predicament.
Ever since your workplace burned down, you decided to earn your living working part time as a waitress at some local pub until you landed a proper job.
But that wasn't enough to cover your expenses so you took up odd jobs on the weekends. And one of them just happened to be babysitting some kid living in the suburbs from afternoon to late evening.
The family was nice. The house was nice. Even the pay was nice so you had absolutely no complaints.
But today of all days, the kid decided that he wanted to fly his kite outside and said kite got stuck in the tallest tree in the backyard.
You could have just told the kid he could play something else or maybe bought him a new kite and politely asked his parents to compensate you for it.
But no. Your dumbass decided to climb that tree, forgetting the fact that you weren't the little girl who used to hop from branch to branch in her parent's backyard. You were now a mid 20s woman with backpain and money issues for goodness sake, so what were you thinking?
Now here you were, clinging to the tree trunk while your ankle was twisted. Unable to get down.
But, hey. Atleast the kite is on the ground now, right?
The kid got so, so worried that he ran to his neighbour who was just some old lady. She merely stuck her head out the window, shot you an annoyed look, shook her head exasperatedly then went back inside.
Ten minutes later, you heard the sirens.
"Well, well, well. We really ought to stop meeting like this."
Oh god.
You glanced down to see him. That firefighter from before. Sukuna grinned as the aerial ladder lifted him up to where you were.
Yeah. The world was definitely against you.
Once he was finally at your eye level, he smirked with that same cocky attitude like before.
"What's with you being so accident prone, princess? Not the kind of quality I want from my future wife."
Oh, this fucker—
You glared at him. "God, just shut up and get me down."
He was thoroughly enjoying your desperation. You can tell from the glint in his eyes. He was about to say some stupid shit again but stopped when you shuffled a bit and a gasped hitched in your throat when you accidentally placed pressure on your twisted ankle.
He narrowed his eyes at your foot then snorted and extended his hand at you. "Alright, give me your hand."
You huffed. "You better not drop me."
Sukuna rolled his eyes. "Trust me, I've done this shit too many times to count. Now... I won't repeat myself. Give me your hand."
You kept your wary gaze on him before hesitantly letting go of the tree trunk to grab his hand.
And he pulled you in like you weighed nothing. You gasped and wrapped your arms around his shoulders while he held you firmly with an arm around your waist.
"Easy, easy. That's it. I got you, princess." You shivered as his deep voice rumbled next to your ear.
After you and him were lowered to the ground, you found yourself sitting on the back of the fire truck with Sukuna bend down on one knee in front of you, wrapping your swollen ankle.
"Hmph. Nothing serious. You'll walk it off in a week." He said, standing up when he finished his work.
You looked down at your ankle and bit your lip before looking back up at him hesitantly. "Uh... Thanks."
Sukuna raised his eyebrow at that before he snorted. "Last time I saved your life, you made me some brownies and now all I get is some shitty thanks?"
Oh this fucker—!
"Oh I would bake you brownies but last I checked you thought they were too sweet for you." You argued back.
But he merely rolled his eyes and hopped into the truck to retrieve something. You stared at him with a frown until he tossed something towards you. You instinctively grabbed it and realized it was your empty container. The one which you gave him with your brownies.
"Uh?"
"I may think it's too sweet but my nephew inhaled your entire batch and has been begging me to get him more."
Your heart skipped a beat at that. "... Oh."
Sukuna came back to you, one hand absentmindedly running through his hair as he smirked down at you. "I'm not gonna accept that shitty thank you. Drop by next time with another batch, princess. Then we'll be even. Got it?"
You stared at him in surprise before averting your gaze. You bit your lip and looked down at the empty container, already deciding on how many brownies to make. Maybe you can do two containers this time.
And maybe one of them will be less sweeter than your usual batch.
"... Fine. I'll see what I can do."

Wow. The number of text posts I’ve posted over the approximate span of 12 hours is a lot. I think I’ve been on drugs most of the time. When I smoke weed I don’t put myself out. I get fuzzy and physically light and/or heavy in all the right places.. I think kinda like my posts because im aware I’m thinking when typing something (autocorrect only corrects when it feels like it. (Even typoed isn’t a word to them! It’s in the fucking dictionary!)) so it’s almost like what I’m doing is actually demonstrating. Ta da!

Y'all, we really gotta start spending time with friends in person again. We gotta make public places accessible and safe for people and make plans to do things and follow through on them. I am a socially anxious neurodivergent jackass who has made most of my best friends online who masks at very high levels when I go outside and I love the internet, and I live with chronically ill people who struggle with wheelchair access sometimes, and so I'm familiar with a lot of the hindering factors to this, I promise, I'm not saying this to shame anyone who doesn't, but all I am saying is:
Y'all, we really gotta start spending time with friends in person again.
I deeply believe that the lack of actual social interaction time with other people in physical spaces is both one of the biggest problems in western society right now in how it is isolating people and making it easier for them to be radicalized, but also the result of intentional choices by some of the people who are taking advantage of it to radicalize us.
Spend time with friends in person. Hang out at a park and read a book while people play frisbee or whatever. Fly a kite. Find out what programs your local library has and sign up for one. Have a powerpoint presentation party and have everyone bring a snack.
And don't let perfect be the enemy of good here. Do what little pieces you can. Don't think, "Well, I can only half do this, I won't waste my time." If going to sit in a coffee shop for fifteen minutes while a musician plays is what you can do today, do it. And tell yourself that's a good start. You don't have to walk up to someone and make a best friend. Just let yourself be surrounded by the energy of other people for a little bit, of complete strangers.
Just fucking work on forming emotional bonds and community. Please. Don't rely on someone else's technology to replace actual human interaction.

rottmnt fic rec
I am currently deep in hyperfixation over these turtles, and one of my ways to channel it is doing fic recs. My fic reading experience isn't as extensive as most of the fandom, but I want to focus on reccing those fics that don't seem to be as popular! (at least by what I see on tumblr)
(98% is Leo-centric, though)
Enjoy~!
PART 2
PART 3
Little Scraps of Wisdom by clandestineClairvoyant (series; Splinter & the boys): Lou Jitsu emerged from the lab explosion unmutated, found help in the form of his old friend and lawyer, and the tots live their lives free in the human world. A lot of wholesomeness and generally just feel-good fics that are very well-written, with wonderful OCs.
The Greatest Thing We've Lost by SupremeCommanderOfPencils (multi-chapter; complete; Leo-centric; Leo & Raph): The farmhouse-arc-we-never-got fic. BUT it is not just that. Leo is coping with chronic pain and the loss of a limb, and there's a growing dread (anxiety) in his mind about Raph, on top of all that. The portrayal of his feelings and reactions to all of those problems feel very real and relatable. Honestly one of the best rottmnt fics I've read.
Script by yellowhollyhock (oneshot; Leo & Donnie): Leo is having a not-so-good day and will not talk, but Donnie might just know how to make it better. One of my favorites; it's heartwarming and I especially love Donnie's characterization.
WWLJD (What Would Lou Jitsu Do?) by word_dissociation (oneshot; Splinter & the kids): Several scenes of the early days of Splinter's mutation, how he adjusts to living in the sewers and being father to four boys. The bath scene is my personal fave.
decompress by Tenka (oneshot; Leo-centric, but all the brothers + Splinter + Casey play an important part): Post-invasion fic where everyone is recovering but Leo is focusing more on everyone else's recovery instead of his own. There is a heart-to-heart talk with Raph that involves mind-melding and is genuinely one of the best I've read. The dose of humor and hurt/comfort is just right, and everything is doused in family feels.
I'll let you hit me twice by story_monger (oneshot; Leo & Donnie): Leo got hit with a truth spell, while Donnie got hit with an obedience one. Unsurprisingly, it leads to an important conversation being had. The twins' dynamic is so good here; I love how they have this... system of keeping the fairness in their interaction.
Excerpt: "It was like when he and Leo roughhoused too hard as kids. Don't cry, don’t cry, I’m sorry, look you can hit me too. Hit me back right now; it’s a freebie. I’ll let you hit me twice, don’t cry."
bad blud by bigdamnher0 (two-shots; Leo & Donnie): The one fic that destroyed me. Leo feels like he is left behind, with his brothers going forward with their lives, having new friends, and spending less and less time home. He feels it most acutely with Donnie, and an attempt to fix it with a pair of mystic bracelets backfired - and that's putting it mildly. Honestly, he's trying!! He tried to move forward too, and he didn't have any malevolent intention with the bracelets!!
An excerpt: "There was an ending to this story that Leo could predict. They were careening towards it; by the doorstep of the kitchen, Leo froze with his armful of plates and listened to his family laugh and laugh like they could hear it coming too: the inevitable crash, the moment when Leo’s family stopped being all his—and where would that leave him?"
when I'm nothing new by alwerakoo (oneshot; Leo-centric): In contrast to the previous fic, in this one Leo takes a big step forward in his life. And the entire family is there to support him, including Draxum. This one feels bittersweet and somewhat fulfilling, seeing Leo gets older and wiser and is finally getting his bearing in life.
Fly Our Kites in the Wind by like_theletter (oneshot; Mikey & Leo): Mikey got Leo a new best friend. He's anxious about whether or not Leo will like it or not, though. Very, very fluffy, and very hurt/comfort-y at the same time.
Champion by rbt_lvr (two-shots; Raph & Leo): What if Raph noticed the implication of what Leo said in the Minotaur Maze, and confronted him about it? This makes my heart hurt in the best way.
On Understanding Caring Hearts by ParvumAutomaton (oneshot; Leo-centric): Leo got severely injured in an incident he can't seem to remember. Fortunately, his brothers are all there to care for him. This fic is filled with moments of Donnie being gentle and gently caring, and I relished in it like plant in sunlight. The mystery and the build-up to the reveal is written so well to keep us curious and keep the suspense.
Fafa by KayGryffin (oneshot; Raph-centric): A turtle tot fic. It's Raph's birthday, but it turned out to be a No Day in the lair, meaning that Dad would stay in his armchair and not move for the entire day. Raph tries to not let it bother him, and he does so well—too well—at putting his brothers' care above his own feelings. All the boys are trying, honestly, in their own ways. Fluffy, heartbreaking, and heartwarming all at once, and a humane, realistic portrayal of depressed parent - and children (they're not depressed, just their dad)
