Dear Ladynoir,
Tumblr media
We were talking about guns and swords. Most people don’t consider whips, coffee or beads no more weapons than a paper clip.
Tumblr media
Though, now that I’m thinking about it more, I wonder if I could use a nonweapon in the same way, I suppose I could bring one.
(If I can think of anything. Maybe I should take some marshal arts classes.)

KADEU. The Club’s Territory. The Ryu’s house.
Two weeks after The Resistance’s Attack on The Armory/The Ace Fight.
One window was open, the breeze that belonged to the exterior clashed brutally with the heat that could be felt inside of the house, Tanya both feet propped on top of the kitchen table despite having been told time and time again to mind her manners, her chair was balanced dangerously on only two legs as she swayed back and forth.
Asra noticed the pile of ash and squashed cigarette butts on a crystal ashtray, his aunt always smoke like she had all the money in the world to afford a healer that could bring her lungs back to its pristine condition. He doubted she had that kind of money, however he was also certain that she did not care.
The young man held himself back, he was itching for a cigarette too, but he knew what the rules were and he respected them. His mother’s presence behind him as she washed the dishes reminded him of that exactly, he was not allowed to smoke inside of the house or maybe his mother simply did not wish to see him ruin his body like that, either way, he respected her wishes.
“You should join, finally do something useful, drop out of that fucking academy, you can’t even go there anymore they closed the borders on us, don’t you think it’s the perfect time?” Tanya was always so sure of herself, always spoke as if things were so simple to solve, like the faint bruises and wounds that still lingered on her face meant nothing. His aunt had refused to see a healer after the attack on The Armory, arguing that they had enough on their plates and that her injuries were nothing to worry about. If Asra did not know her better he would have asked if she had hit her head during battle.
His mother was quiet, the only proof that she was still in the kitchen with them was the sound of water moving around. Asra knew she was listening.
“No, we’ve already talked about this, I’m going to finish my studies and then we’ll see where I go from there. I don’t even know if I want to join The Resistance” anyone could hear the annoyance in Asra’s tone, the irritation in Tanya’s scoff as she rolled her eyes at his words.
“Oh, shit, sorry, didn’t realize you were still fantasizing about that'' there was mockery on her tone and it only served to aggravate the fire elementalist’s annoyance and confusion “do you really think that they are going to let you graduate? please, you could be the best there, pass all their fucking tests and they would still find a reason to fail you” she waved her hands around, some ash from her cigarette fell on top of her hand, but she barely flinched “your mother graduated because everyone thought she was a diamond and by the time they realized their mistakes, they were far too embarrassed and well she was already one of their top students, there was no turning back. Besides it’s good publicity to see a student from another faction thrive once in a while”
“Just because you are a shitty elementalist doesn’t mean we all are” the look that Asra received was deadly. Tanya stopped swaying in her chair and with a thud the chair fell to the ground as she rose, the cigarette was thrown to the ashtray to meet its companions before she splayed her hands on top of the table to lean meanincingly towards her nephew.
“And you are a selfish brat who doesn’t give a fuck about this family, you let them take your mother, beat up your father and when The Resistance solves your issues you can’t even show a little bit of gratitude by joining” a fist hit the table, but nothing changed, everyone was used to their rage, however this time it was getting out of hand quickly. “Things are changing, Asra, it would put you and all of us in a safe position if you joined, The Resistance can offer the protection that our family needs”
This time it was Asra’s turn to stand up, the anger on his face a perfect mirror to the expression that Tanya wore “I don’t have to be grateful for anything, where the fuck was The Resistance when the ace decided to start to steal our food and water, uh? Where were they when everyone was kidnapped? And now you are telling me to join, for what?” at this point they weren’t even talking anymore and their shouts could probably be heard from the street “Gods, look at your fucking face, you can’t tell me that’s alright, don’t you think it’s insane how you’re all willing to die just like that?” he thought back at Sparrow, of how that time in which they were separated felt like absolute torture as Asra thought about the worst happening. “So, don’t tell me I don’t give a fuck about this family, because I was fighting alongside them, meanwhile you go to fights knowing that you could leave us all behind”
Everything happened too quickly after that, there was angry shouting and then Asra was ducking underneath the table as Tanya threw a dagger at him. By the time the weapon hit the floor so did droplets of blood, when Asra looked over his shoulder he saw his mother's bloody hand clutch to the large and deep cut on her arm.
There was nothing on his mind as he stood up, pushing the table to the side with one hand, the other already consumed by flames as he looked at his aunt. And then, before he could do anything he regretted, water hit him from the side, putting out the fire and leaving him with a shocked expression as he wiped his wet face with his own two hands.
He heard another thud and a groan and when he looked in front of him, Tanya was on the floor, two blocks of ice held her hands hostage.
“Mumsy…”
“Aisha, fuck!”
His mother did not answer any of them, her blue eyes had fresh tears and somehow Asra knew it was not only because of the accidental wound she had on her arm.
“That wasn’t meant for you, Aisha, I’m sorry, please release me” the words that left Tanya’s lips were sincere, she could not tear her gaze away from what she had done and yet it felt like that apology was still lacking something.
“But it was meant for my only son, your nephew” even with all the shouting there had been, her words were the most powerful, it demanded silence and regret. Tanya had the decency to look ashamed from her place on the floor, the ice that around her hands looked painful, but then came the confirmation that the torture was not over “you are not child, if you want to throw another knife again you will find a way to get rid of the ice, but by the time you do remember who you’re supposed fight and who you’re supposed to protect”
Aisha started to walk towards the hall, throwing a disappointed gaze at both of them, Asra did not need any explanation unlike his aunt, he knew his behavior was impossible to forgive. He would have burnt his own aunt if his mother had not been faster.
“If Asra is feeling generous he will help you with that” his mother spoke before finally leaving the kitchen to treat her wounds. It took them a few minutes to properly calm down and think about what happened, but in the end, Asra crouched down, his flames starting to melt the ice.
“I’m sorry”
“Me too”
