I think it stems from the absolute BULLSHIT idea that if you like the First Order characters, you CAN'T like FinnPoe (or FinnRey).
Trust me, I have SEEN those takes. I guess I do know about the "unfathomable" horrors, LOL...
Like, you were actively banned/blocked by a considerable chunk of the Resistance characters' lovers, simply by making jokes about FO characters acting like "The Office" and stuff like that, even if many of the FO fans ALSO liked FinnPoe, because, "Yay, gay ships on both sides!"
FinnRey was even more popular with the Kyluxers, because obviously, Rey had someone for herself (though I can't not mention the quite considerably sized part of PhasRey shippers. Evil LesYay+FinnPoe+Kylux is 3 times the gay! The gays can only win)
So I guess if people were FORCED to pick a side, they WILL do so, but it might not be the one you wanted. Almost all of the european and also asian fandom has had history one way or another with oppressive fascist regimes, so making fun of it by making it a maximum camp gay sitcom OR changing it for the better would just be an obvious thing in the transormative process. (because WHY the fuck does it have to be like THAT anyway? How about we make it. Not fascist. The fascists don't exist in the galaxy far, far away because they didn't have a fascist Italy there.)
The FinnPoe shippers collectively accused the Kyluxers of being space nazis and whatnot, and refused to interact. So we respected their boundaries and didn't interact. Which, I guess included, being actively involved in the fandom, writing fics (or reading/commenting on them) and making it loud and heard. Because apparently we threw enough dust in the air on our own. Imagine what we could have done together. Who knows... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
so someone on Twitter decided it was 2016 again and they were starting Kylux vs FinnPoe popularity discourse and one person was saying their whole chest that “no one” makes content for FinnPoe and that fandom “ignores” FinnPoe and I’m genuinely flabbergasted. FinnPoe has thousands of works on ao3 plus however much art, vids, gifs etc, it was a top 100 ship on ao3 until recently. Like yeah Kylux has more (and Kylux isn’t even on top anymore, they’re still trying to get their pants and lunch money back from Reylo) but on what planet is FinnPoe some kind of ignored content-less rare pair?

On the planet where the mirror telling you you're only the #2 hottie sparks a downward spiral of assassination attempts.

lesyays replied to your post “Just for reference, compulsory heterosexuality and comphet are terms...”
Are they really???
yeah adrienne rich coined the term in one of her essays, it was before she went Full TERF and like while she definitely is wrong in her view of trans women compulsory heterosexuality is still a phenomenon that affects lesbians and an argument could be made that it affects other wlw too. ironically theres no reason trans lesbians and trans wlw WOULDNT experience compulsory heterosexuality, even though it would probably be different because they would be dealing with transphobia on top the misogyny and homophobia that creates compulsory heterosexuality, so even if she wants to pretend its a term for Cis Feemale Wymyn OnlyTM it uhhhhh definitely still affects trans lesbians/wlw bc trans lesbians/wlw are still subject to misogyny (more specifically transmisogyny, but in the context of comphet it comes from broader mosgyny) and homophobia whether rich believes it or not

You interacted with me with my post to call me a racist based on lies and the sole fact that you disagree with me. That I explained to you precisely how I felt and you still decide to erase what I wrote instead of actually listening and accepting my words at the value are they are written shows that you act like an anti. You determine something is "unacceptable" and then you harass, insult, and send hate to people to "fix" it instead of trying review the context of their words.
where is the hate you claim that goes around?
Your post is full of that hate, dismissal, and infantilization. You claim it's "entitlement" to treat anyone with the bare minimum of respect, but funny, you haven't treated anyone else you interacted with like me. That means you targeted your hate to me. I've got news for you. You wishing me dead by treating me awfully instead of as an equal isn't going to make my demise happen any faster.
By the way, cultural appropriation isn't always as you described. Wearing braids if you are white, for instance, can be considered cultural appropriation just on the act alone. The same is true of the "space buns" and the stunts Miley Cyrus pulled a few years back. It doesn't have to be claiming to be the originator of a style. Dressing up in legitimate culturally Roma attire -- even in a non-stereotypical and "respectful" way -- is still appropriation. In these cases one is centering oneself in the experiences of others.
There's a sentiment summed up in a quote with an attribution that being amazingly scrubbed from the Internet. "Racism won't end until white people see it as a problem to fix instead of something to empathize with." That alone explains why "empathy" is self-serving, especially when it comes to different cultures. You can't understand, and using kids' fiction to empathize is dangerously presumptive. This applies if you are an non-Japanese national of any ethnicity trying to relate to Japanese culture through anime.
That said, there is no cultural appropriation in the 90's dub of Sailor Moon when Toei (the Japanese company that made the anime) not only approved the changes DiC but actually became the distributor after the license with DiC ended and kept as many changes as it could for future episodes. When a change is approved by the rights holder such as TOEI, it isn't cultural appropriation, but localization.
And it's not cultural appropriation when fans interact with the material in the same way to adapt material to their culture, because fandom is generally supposed to be for fun, not for profit, and not the minefield of "is this problematic?" Funny, that's the proshipper position, to live and let live...yes, so many so-called proshippers like yourself want to police the fandom into interacting in what you term as correct.
You can "ignore" me all you want, but you have lied about me, about cultural appropriation, and even about what is hate. For instance, in Japan, it is a societal expectation for those teenagers who are attracted to the same gender to eventually grow out of it; that's the reason behind some of the LesYay moments in the old anime to show how immature these girls still are. Harmuichi is transgressive because it DEFIES that expectation, but it doesn't change that it's a cultural thing to treat schoolgirl lesbians as "puppy love" so someone making a comment that Michiru would grow out of it is a cultural comment.
But you're determined to dismiss me and make me a non-person anyway, no matter how many sources I provide to support my argument. You're the one putting me in a box over my protestations with only your own opinion backing up the decision to do so. That is closed-minded, damaging, and hurtful. I only wish you would treat me with the same respect as any other fan you communicate with, but that wish will never be granted because of your bias.
I guess another reason why this anti/proship debate has spurred me to write so long about it is because so many of the big name Sailor Moon blogs proclaim to be proshippers.
Many Sailor Moon fans are acting like I am anti and that I police people's use of work. But the reality is, for the past, oh 30, years, since the franchise's inception, Internet fans have acted as fanpols in the Sailor Moon community
You see about 30 years ago, Sailor Moon aired on American and Canadian TV. Sailor Moon is an old anime. It was the story of Serena and her friends and it was awesome,
However internet fanpols wouldn't have it. They would go on campaigns to "educate" fans about Sailor Moon and how she wasn't really Serena even though she was called that in the dialogue. They went on campaigns to mock people who did not use the names found either in the Japanese language version of the anime or in the manga.
I argued then that as I argued now, that author intent is pointless, and that the character shouldn't be seen the "correct" way aside from that was portrayed in the episodes themselves, and that people should be allowed to see the characters "incorrectly." For instance, one of the characters was female, but in the Japanese version, this character was male. The argument was that because that character was assigned a gender, they had to stay that gender and that no other way of looking at the character was allowed. It was your standard TERF arguments applied against fictional characters. My argument was that it didn't matter what the gender character was assigned but how the character was displayed and there was nothing wrong with seeing this character as female.
The end result of all this fanpol interference is that they won. The Sailor Moon that actually aired on TV over 20 years is completely unavailable from a legal standpoint. It has gotten so bad that people have watched the new Sailor Moon episodes and reporting remembering seeing these episode as kids.
Now that those fans got what they wanted and not only erased decades of precedent they want to claim they are proship. Not when you harassed fan artists who dared give Neptune or Uranus male love interests, when you laughed at fan theories, and most importantly, you made fans of the actual Sailor Moon they watched on TV feel unwelcome because they didn't like Sailor Moon the "correct" way.

Sometimes I think about how TVTropes is basically like "Yeah okay we're going to approve you using the HoYaY/LesYaY tag for her... Gorgeous IS gay. Taylor Swift Gay Theories are all good here on TVTropes 😎👍🏳️‍🌈." But apparently Taylor comes off as a conservative lesbian to TVTropes people cause the Democrat coming out post was like 95% LGBT+ focused & barely mentioned anything else. TVTropes is like "Taylor Swift? Conservative christian lesbian? More likely than you think!" TVTropes is WILD

Genre : Romance, Supernatural, Cats, School
Length: 1 hour, 44 mins
Studio: Studio Colorido
Have you ever wanted to be a cat? Tossing aside all the worries and disappointments of life. No more homework, no more social anxiety, no more having to deal with selfish adults who don’t consider how their actions are going to affect you! Just long days of lazing about in the sun, having everyone pet and feed you and going on nightly adventures through the town. Sounds pretty good no? Ohh and how about if the guy you happen to like doesn’t really give you the time of day but really really likes to cuddle with kitties? Does that sweeten the deal. Sounds pretty good to me. But is it good enough to leave your humanity behind forever?
For the past two Sundays I have been watching anime movies instead of my usual series and I’m digging it. There was a time when I use to watch movies almost exclusively (as opposed to shows or series), because I preferred that restrained format that assured a narrative payoff in a reasonable amount of time. Eventually, I started to find the restraints a bit too limiting and discovered that the 12 episode single anime season was an even better format. I’m rediscovering the unique qualities of movies lately and I appreciate that both are their own thing with advantages and disadvantages. But let’s talk about A Whisker Away.
I would also follow a giant cat – I’m not that smart…
I discovered the existence of A Whisker Away when trying to figure out my shows for the summer season. I was pretty surprised to see that it was a Netflix Original I had somehow never heard of. Not only that but it was already available on Netflix Canada! I pretty much watched it right then and there!
I don’t know whether to chalk it up to Netflix or Studio Colorido, with who I was unfamiliar, but the production is solid. Actually past solid. It’s very pretty to look at. The character designs have something a bit nostalgic, maybe even Ghibli like, the colours are rich and light and shadow effects really bring everything to life.
Voice acting is great. Main character Miyo is a bit over energetic and that does carry one in the performance, so viewers that don’t have too much patience for genki characters may find it a bit annoying but it’s well acted and the rest of the cast are just as talented. I found that Natsuki Hanae’s slightly weary delivery as Kento went a long way to sell the boy’s troubled spirit and inner turmoil over not living up to his mother’s expectations.
All of this said, for me, the real star of the production were the backgrounds. They were all gorgeous. One of those shows that make me want to book a ticket to Japan right then land there. And even the interior designs were beautiful. With Miyo and Kento’s houses looking welcoming and functional while completely different in style. You know what, how about I just show you what I mean:
As far as stories go, A Whisker Away is a simple young love story with a supernatural twist. There’s nothing that unusual about it but it doesn’t need to be. Like the designs, the story also evokes a certain nostalgia with a fairly uncomplicated romance that relies on the strength of it’s characters. I say uncomplicated but I guess the cat stuff does get a bit out there…
By necessity, movie characters are often much less developed than series ones, just by virtue of there having much less time for development. This is also the case here. Miyo and Kento’s arcs are pretty minimal with them basically just learning one lesson and slightly changing from it. But their characters are very well established. Both of them have slightly complicated home lives and recent events that they are still trying to properly accept and move on from. Both of them have obvious flaws and some great strengths. They are rather complete, which is the main reason this story works, in my opinion.
The rest of the cast is given very little to do and serves mostly as plot devices, with the exception of Miyo’s best friend Yori who happens to be best girl. Yori, I wish you were my friend too.
there are some pretty cool cats as well
The real core of the story is the developing relationship between these two students. It was refreshing to see how open and verbal Miyo is with her feelings. She finds nothing embarrassing about being completely head over heels over a boy and makes absolutely no attempt to hide it. To the contrary. It can be a bit exhausting but after so many blushing violet main characters, I found it refreshing. Why should we be embarrassed about liking something? Liking things is great! OK, it depends on the things…
The latter half of the movie, gets deeper into the supernatural aspects and becomes more of an action adventure. This is not an uncommon progression either but the two meld together quite well and the action never feels forced or contrived.
I have to admit, the happy ending did get a bit too sappy for me in those final moments. At the same time, when I thought for a second that they might be going for a bitter sweet sort of conclusion, I realized that I really wanted a, uncompromisingly, almost impossibly happy ending. And I was happy I got it. Some stills during the closing credits show what happens after the end of the movie and inject a lot of joy and humour into that ending which I think manages to even it out nicely and redeem most of the sap.
All in all, this was a wonderful little movie to watch on a Sunday afternoon. It transported me back to a time where I would sit wide eyed, way too close to the TV, and watch a Ghibli release. Also the cats were cute. I like cats! That helps!
Favorite character: Yoriko Fukase (my future BFF)
What this anime taught me: Cats have their own bars?
“No matter how much cats fight, there always seems to be plenty of kittens”
Suggested drink: Salty Cat
Every time Yori is…patient  – take a sip
Every time Kento is annoyed  – take a sip
Every time Miyo has a bad relationship with a cat – take a sip
Every time we see the mask salesman – gasp
Every time people turn into scarecrows – admire the symbolism
Every time anyone is in the pottery studio – raise your glass
Every time we see Sakaguchi – fan yourself
Every time Miyo gets into a confrontation – take a sip
Every time we actually see the mask – take a sip
Every time Kaoru tries to reach out – awww
Every time we are reminded of the night of the festival – get jealous that you don’t get to go to a festival
Some more images for you. It’s actually a very pretty movie. As always, the rest are on Pinterest.

Psst hey idk if you (still?) don't know what's going on with the heartbe*t game (or if you just meant you didn't know with that particular post) but the makers of the game are hella transphobic and have said/did some really shitty things. @ lesyays has a post about it if you wanna read that, but warning for transphobia in the tweets they posted! (Sorry if you already know this, and for the fact that I didn't really explain it well haha)

jehnt replied to your post “Queerbaiting”
I don't know that the word "queerbaiting" was in use but it was DEFINITELY a huge thing on Xena. That's the first I recall knowing about that sort of thing but also Xena was on when I was a kid so it's not like I COULD have known about anything on earlier. I'd find some Xena fandom experts (I was only ever tangentially aware of it) to ask.
Heh. Yes, Xena was very... uh... formative.
It’s definitely subtext-laden. What I’m interested in right now is the literal term ‘queerbaiting’ or any combo of ‘queer’ and ‘bait’ rather than the practice of putting in homoerotic subtext.

You're back! Have you seen the Adam Taurus drama lately? What's your opinion?
(This is alright to reblog, but I’d rather people not start shit. This is just opinions and musings. No one’s URL is mentioned and it could honestly be so many different people I’ve seen in passing.)
(THIS IS ALSO PRETTY LONG SORRY NOT SORRY.)
Well, I like Adam as a bad guy. He’s a good (if not basic, but given that RWBY’s been pretty short until recent volumes as far as episode length goes, meaning it’ll be harder to show his abuse in action when you have like.. not even half the time a normal show would, which is why it’s much MUCH more parent in v5 and v6) character in the sense he’s what he’s written to be- an abusive, cowardly egotist. While I wish we got to see more of that abuse outlined in flashbacks (maybe they’re doing a post-abuse PTSD angle for Blake in v7, I wouldn’t mind that. PTSD is a complicated thing to write properly, but that sort of angle I think would work and open Blake up to relying more on her team for comfort/support which is a big deal development wise)  his confrontation was 100% decent in my eyes.
It’s actually quite cathartic for me personally, including the song”Nevermore” which was honestly RT spoiling (in the girl/boyfriend spoiling a partner kinda context not Snape Kills Dumbledore kinda stuff) us totally.
Though for the drama from what friends in the community have been keeping me up to date on:
Look, I can understand seeing a character like Adam and heavily projecting your previous abuser(s) (or current, I’m deeply sorry if you’re in that sort of situation and I’ll open my doors to you if you need to discuss this with a BB fan who kinda.. gets that sort of angle I guess? I’m an ass, but I’m not heartless.) onto them, which is a sort of “what if” fantasy from what I’ve gathered. I did it in the past with a certain DR ship I haven’t drawn in 2-3 years for this exact reason.
I’ll even give you this: we as BB fans  in general should be a bit more mindful and.. ask people why they love what they do before we jump to attack them.  If their reasons are complex, let’s see if we can talk it out first. I feel like a lot of fighting I’ve seen in passing are with people who are generally reasonable if you don’t play offense instantly. Earlier in the year I actually managed to talk a few people out of hating BB who were being accused of homophobia- in reality they were all for it, just didn’t quite get the appeal or perspective of BB shippers outside of the fandom’s old OLD school BB community. (AKA when it was often called a lesyay pairing.) You can 100% in many cases just.. talk things out. Not everything is the usual “I HATE LESBIANS” stuff, especially if it’s someone who openly likes other f/f rwby pairings. Obviously this doesn’t apply to stuff like pedoshit, incest, severe age gap, etc.
Though uh.. just don’t deal with the incel-y adam stans. They’re not gonna listen I can promise you that. Though people who claim to be invested in keeping the fandom peaceful and stuff of that nature- I’d give them that chance to discuss stuff with me personally.
As for the AU stuff- maybe don’t make a “blake as the abuser” AUs without doing EXTENSIVE research into abuse. I’ve thrown this idea to the server I’m in but the only way I’d ever say “hm, that could work” is if it’s a NIGHTMARE scenario after the events in V6. It’s a common nightmare abuse victims deal with as well as an ongoing negative thought: “maybe I was the abuser.” Stuff like that can be incredibly introspective and a scenario where Yang comforts her post nightmare is a good sort of angst/comfort plot.
Oh and if you think this by any means is me saying stanning adam is a good thing: no, it’s not. Legitimate stans disgust me and are either fetishistic or encompass the very essence adam presents. People who LIKE ADAM as a villian (or cinder) are fine if they outright admit the character is a bad guy who did shitty things and abuser Blake/his own power over his people. Like, I love TPN’s Isabella to death but it’s because SHE’S A BAD GUY. She’s got so much complexity and reason for doing what she does (I’m not spoiling it since.. it’s still relatively new.)  that makes her hella sympathetic.
Adam though... If we got more on him, if we saw his reasons for his actions outside of the brand over his eye and here-n-there mentions, I might be more sympathetic. The issue is- that’s not the kind of character he is. He’s not a bad guy due to circumstance like ILIA WAS, he’s an antagonist. He’s twisted and beyond the brand, I think he’d still end up how he is regardless. It’s his personality, his essence.
There’s my two cents for ya anon, glad to be back. Might do some anaylisis stuff sometime in the future if I can, especially if people send in prompts like you have sort of.
Hope you have a good day/night all who read this far.
