Crocodile Villain
âNo! Lena, please donât do this!â
Kara struggled vainly against the chains that held her in place, the red sun lamp over her head more than a match for her feeble efforts. Lena laughed coldly. It was a good laugh, the laugh of a supervillain, and Kara fell to her knees in despair as it echoed around the cavernous chamber of her new lair.
âWhy shouldnât I? The world has been telling me for years what a villain I am, and I kept fighting against it, bolstered by my best friendâs belief that I could be more than my genes.â
âLena, Iâm-â
Kara tried to apologise again, but Lena didnât let her, raising her voice and adding in an extra spike of venom as she continued her monologue.
âTurns out you were just like all the rest: two faced. Deceitful. You never trusted me, I was just easier to handle if you kept me on a leash. A tame Luthor pet. How you must have laughed behind my back all those years.â
Kara shook her head, fat crocodile tears spilling down her cheeks oh so appropriately as Lena pressed a button on the console in front of her.
A trapdoor opened in the ceiling to release two bound figures, each of them writhing and struggling against their ropes like bait on a hook as they began to descend towards the specially built enclosure below. Inside it six large crocodiles perked up at the sight of their next meal, grunting in excitement and gathering with jaws agape directly beneath the squirming bodies.
Lena surveyed them with an air of detached indifference, then turned back to where Kara was once more flinging herself uselessly against her bonds.
âLena, PLEASE, this isnât you, I know it isnât you! You donât have to do this!â
Lena surged to her feet, newly acquired robes swirling satisfyingly around her as she glared down at her former friend.
âDonât I? I know exactly who I am. Iâve finally embraced what it means to be a Luthor, and thatâs all thanks to you, Supergirl. You can cry and beg and spout all the false platitudes you like, but just know that this is your fault. When these people die, it will be because of you. I am what you made me.â
With that Lena flipped two switches in rapid succession. With the first, the tethers holding her prisoners suddenly dropped them towards the waiting beasts below, and a second later the lights went out, plunging the pit into blackness.
Lena waited for the sounds of splashing and screaming to die away before she turned to the single remaining source of light in the room: the dim, ruddy glow of the red sun lamps. Beneath them Kara was limp in her chains, sobbing feebly. Lena had to push aside a brief, instinctive urge to go to her then, to wipe away her tears and wrap her arms around her. It was a vestigial response: as useless to her now as impacted wisdom teeth in this new version of reality, so instead of giving into it Lena simply stared down at Kara with a forced smirk on her face.
âI believe now we understand each other. Goodbye, Supergirl.â
Right on cue Karaâs posture slackened from one of despair to the boneless slump of unconsciousness as a sedative dart shot from the concealed pipe in the wall and sank into the back of her neck. Lena waited a minute to be sure it had done its job, and then at last let her gloating posture drop into something more natural.
She stepped quickly into the pool of red light and pressed two fingers to the pulse in Karaâs neck (just to make sure), then released the chains that held her in place, easing her gently down to the floor. Now that her enemy was unconscious and unable to read into it, she unfastened the cape pinned to her shoulders (longer and more daunting that Supergirlâs little red security blanket: this was a proper cape, heavily draped and trailing and worthy of Maleficent herself) and flung it over Karaâs supine form. Just for the sake of tidiness of course, not because it was damp and chilly in this underground hide out, and without her powers Kara was as susceptible to the cold as any human.
That done, Lena turned the lights back up, bringing the crocodile pit and its victims into full view.
She tsked lightly at the sight of one of her crocs with its jaws stretched wide around a booted foot.
âCareful, it would be a shame to ruin Italian leather on those teeth.â
âSorry Miss Luthorâ victim number one replied sheepishly, leaning forwards to prise open the jaws holding him in place and easing his foot our carefully.
âI couldnât resist having some fun with it. Theyâre so life like!â
Lena finally let slip a small, genuine smile.
âThank you Billy. And I must say your screaming was excellent â very convincing. And Dora: that choked off bubbling thing you did at the end? If I hadnât known better Iâd have sworn you really were being dragged down to a watery grave.â
Dora beamed as she uncoiled the last of the rope that was âbindingâ her and stepped over one of the now inert crocodiles to reach the edge of the pit.
âThanks! Iâve been practising all week, my sister came busting into the bathroom to rescue me twice. Iâm gonna have to be careful not to drown for real any time soon or thereâs no way sheâll believe me.â
Dora laughed, and Lena nodded faux-seriously.
âBetter stay away from crocodile infested waters for a while then. The two of you are free to go now if youâre ready â just see Jess on your way out and sheâll sort out your payment. Get in touch any time if you need references, okay?â
The two young actors nodded and thanked her effusively, then made their way towards the exit, chatting happily about their good fortune in getting these parts. Lena smiled fondly after them. She loved drama students: even when the role was a two minute scene of violent death, she could always find someone up for taking on the job. It probably didnât hurt that she paid extremely well for their acting and their discretion, but she could afford it, and she was all for supporting the arts.
Once they were gone she made her way back to the ridiculously ostentatious throne sheâd had set up for herself and pulled out a tablet from the pocket concealed in its back (something so mundane ruined the whole vibe she had going here), then sent out the message that the scene was complete, and Supergirl could be taken to the pre-prepared safehouse where she would be monitored until she woke up and went on her way. While she was at it she pulled up her encrypted server, just to check that the shell corporations sheâd set up were in place and that funding to the childrenâs hospital would continue uninterrupted once she callously and publicly withdrew her donorship next week.
Yes, everything was ready, and once that was done Lena had a few more evil schemes up her sleeve just waiting to be unveiled.
If Kara was going to treat her like a villain, Lena was going to act like one.
Sheâd always looked good in black.

âOkay,â Alex said, âlisten, prepare yourself. Sheâs acting⊠strange.â
Lena strode next to her, clenching her fists as if she could grip her own cold fury with them. The audacity of Danvers
(Alex)
to call her in like she was some employee after what Kara had done to her, was shocking. She would have told her to fuck right off if not for the desperation in her voice. She almost hung up on her when Alex said it was about Kryptonite, and they needed an expert.
Outside the exam room, Alex directed Lenaâs attention to a screen. Some two-bit âvillainâ (how she hated that word) was on the screen. She wasnât sure what he was going for with his outfit but he looked like a cross between a cable repairman and a wannabe Ghostbusters with a helmet that reminded her of the cap on a salt shaker. He was thrusting a wand device at Kara, spraying her with a fine pink mist.
Some of the substance had been gathered into a small vial, currently residing in a lead canister. Lena turned the vial in her hands, watching the tiny, powdery crystals flow over each other like sand.
Lena swallowed, hard.
âSheâs not on a rampage, so itâs not red kryptonite.â
âIt appears to be pink kryptonite,â said Lena.
âYour scientific skills of observation astound me,â said Alex. âMarie Curie would be so proud.â
Lena gave her a flat look.
âFuck you, Danvers. I havenât had a chance to say this to your face yet, but fuck you. Fuck all of you, playing your little games mocking me to my face when we were supposed to be friends.â
âWe were friends,â said Alex.
âNot friends enough for Kara to tell me the truth.â
âI told her not to,â Alex said, coldly, âand I was right. Maybe I kept at her too long about it, but she ended up keeping the secret because she was afraid youâd flip out and blow up your whole friendship over it, you fucking drama queen.â
Lena screwed the lead canister shut. It looks like it was meant to hold radioactive flour.
âDo you want my help or not?â
âPlease save her. Iâm prepared to deal with your sanctimonious bullshit if you save my sister.â
âIâll need to work on the sample, but I should examine her first. Is it safe?â
âShe would never hurt you.â
Lena rolled her eyes. Alex stared at her flatly.
âYou two, Jesus Christ. If you were anyone else Iâd just call it out, but fuck it, letâs keep this professional.â
Lena crossed her arms. âCall what out?â
Alex arched a brow. âShould I start with the office full of flowers or the literal billion dollars you spent on her?â
Lenaâs nostrils flared and she felt red creeping up her cheeks. âThat wasnât about her, that was about keeping Edge from owning his own media empire. Murdoch is bad enough.â
âItâs a fashion industry magazine,â said Alex, âand Edge could just start his own. The difference is Kara worked at CatCo, where you started working instead ofâŠâ
âDo you want my help or not?â
Lena huffed. âFine. Letâs go.â
Alex opened the door. Kara was seated sideways on the exam table, swinging her feet like a bored child. There was a faint pinkish tinge to sparking points on her pale skin and she looked up with a slight pink gloss to the whites of her eyes, visible at a distance.
âHeyyyyyyyyy~â, said Kara.
Lena blinked.
âKara? How are you feeling?â
Kara stared at her hands. âWhy are you here? I thought you hated me now.â
Lena felt a sharp sting of regret deep in her chest, but brushed it off, like crumbs from her sleeve. It was as meaningless as crumbs. Karaâs honeyed words were always to sweeten her lies.
Kara resumed staring at her hands. âHumans call them fingers, but Iâve never seen them fing. Oh,â she giggled, wriggling her fingers, âthere they go.â
âKara?â said Lena.
âOh, hi, I didnât see you come in,â said Kara. âSome dude sprayed me with glitter and now Iâm all funny.â
Alex leaned over. âWe only got her in her by convincing her the Backstreet Boys were waiting inside and she spent three hours singing those stupid songs with Nia before I called you.â
Lena licked her lips. âAh, I see. Kara?â
âYeah, babe?â
Lena flinched. Babe? What?
âHow are you feeling?â
âI feel great,â said Kara. âKinda⊠kinda relaxed but excited. Iâm excitalaxed! I made up a new word!â
âWould you excuse us a minute?â said Lena.
âSure,â said Kara.
Lena stepped out and closed the door after Alex joined her.
âAlex,â said Lena.
âLena,â said Alex.
âSheâs high,â said Lena.
âI know,â Alex sighed.
âThatâs incredibly dangerous. If she was just a dumb blonde we could let her sleep it off, but she can bench press an aircraft carrier. What if she gets some inane idea in her head and levels half the city?â
âShe isnât going to hurt anyone.â
âDidnât she throw Cat Grant off a building the last time she was under the influence of something? It was on TV, Alex.â
Alex scowled. âThat was different. Also she had it coming.â
Lenaâs brows shot up.
âWhat? She was a bitch to my sister. She made her cry like three times a week. I donât buy into that hardass girlboss mentor routine, I never liked Kara working for her. It was a relief when you bought the company, I had hopes someone would finally be looking out for her. Sheâs fragile, Lena.â
Lena blinked. âWhat?â
âYeah, turns out that having your planet explode and losing your entire culture, family, and way of life, then losing your foster father, and then having to kill your aunt who is your motherâs twin sister can do a number on you. Might make you a little bit clingy and weird and paranoid about losing everyone you love. Shit, Lena, out of that whole list I just lost my dad and it was not make me a drunk for six years and captain of the varsity slut team. And Iâm gay.â
Lena stared at her.
âWhy does everyone I know need therapy?â
Kara chose that moment to throw the door open, making them both jump. She was grinning ear to ear.
âI donât need therapy, I need rum,â said Kara. She turned to Lena and stage whispered, âalien rum that I can get drunk on.â
âI donât think thatâs a good idea, Kiddo. Why wonât we go sit down and try to rest.â
Kara snapped her fingers. âI know what we can do! We can go clubbing! Come on, Lena, letâs go clubbing. If I go clubbing with you itâll make Lena jealous.â
âWe are so fucked,â Alex muttered.
Kara started forward, but Lena stepped in her path and pressed a hand to her chest.
She froze, staring open-mouthed at Lena. Lena could feel the muscles flexing under her palm and fingers, the nearly infinite strength pressed against her simple touch and yet yielding to it.
âKara,â she said, softly, but firmly. âLetâs just go back in the room, okay? Youâre intoxicated by the altered Kryptonite youâve been exposed to and youâre not thinking straight.â
Kara looked her up and down, slowly. Lena felt a hot tingle pass through her and her legs quivered in her slacks. Karaâs eyes had gone dark and her chin dipped slightly and holy shit she was staring directly at Lenaâs mouth.
Alex looked at her nervously.
âLena,â Alex said, in warning.
âShe wonât hurt me,â said Lena.
Brainy walked into the lab. âI have good news,â he said. âThe half-life of this particular type of Kryptonite is very short, by my calculations it should only last a few⊠hoursâŠâ he trailed off, then added quickly. âI have business elsewhere, excuse me,â and fled the room.
Lena gave Kara a tentative push and the invincible Kryptonian stumbled back. Lena ended up guiding her into the room again and sat her down.
Alex began to follow.
âItâs fine,â said Lena.
âAre you sure?â
âShe wonât hurt me. Close the door.â
Kara sat down and stared between her feet, fiddling with her hands.
Lena waited for the door to close and sat down next to her.
âAre you mad at me?â Kara whispered.
âYes,â Lena murmured. âIâm so angry at you that it makes me want to scream.â
âOh,â Kara said, her voice small.
Lena sighed. âIâll never be mad enough to let anything happen to you, Kara.â
âBut youâre mad.â
âIâm mad. I let you in, you didnât do the same for me. I let you see who I am, good and bad, and you held back from me.â
âIâm sorry.â
âI know.â
âBut youâre still mad.â
âYeah,â Lena sighed.
Kara rubbed at her arms, sniffling.
Great, Lena thought, sheâs coming down.
âEverybody changes,â said Kara. âEverybody goes away and leaves me. Iâm so scared, Lena. Iâm so scared of being alone. I was alone forever and ever in my pod and it hurt so much,â she choked out a little sob. âEveryone goes away and I canât take it. I canât stand it. I didnât want you to go away so I lied to make you stay. Iâm sorry.â
Lena, haltingly, put an arm around her. Kara leaned her head on Lenaâs shoulder.
âCan I make it so youâre not mad at me anymore?â
Curious, Lena thought.
She wasnât mad at all right now.
Kara began to sob softly, and suddenly, all at once, being mad didnât make so much sense after all. She still felt it burning in her chest but it had gone from hot coals to dying embers, from raging magma to something bitter and sticky coating her lungs, making it hard to breathe.
âI think you can do anything if you try hard enough.â
Lean smoothed back her hair and curled the sleeve of her designer jacket around her hand and used it to dry the tears, and Kara hugged her, tightly but gently in her insistent way.
âIâm sorry.â
âI know, darling. Just relax and breathe, I promise itâll be better soon.â
It was a funny thing, when Kara kissed her. It happened so naturally, so easily, that once it began, Lena was hardly aware how it started. It was not a lustful kiss, though she could feel that was there in the hungry way that Karaâs lips tugged at her own, almost pleading. Nor was it sad. It was hopeful, and it made something flare in her chest.
No, more than that. A crushing blast of warm air snuffed the dying embers of fury in her chest and in their place a new bonfire blazed into being, a sudden explosive joyful warmth that would blaze in her forever until the sun went out and the sky went cold. It was as if Kara had given her some red sun fire.
On instinct she lunged into the embrace and suddenly they were on the table, Kara swinging one leg lazily off the side as Lena straddled and locked lips with her.
"Oh God," Lena blurted, yanking back.
"What's wrong, baby?"
Lena almost fell off onto the floor when Kara called her that. She was sitting on Kara, panting.
"We can't," said Lena. "Kara, please, you're high as a kite."
Kara let out a soft, sad sound. Lena brushed her cheek softly. "It's okay. Just let me lay with you."
Kara shifted so Lena could join her, and they lay facing each other.
"I love you," Kara whispered. "You are my red sun, my scarlet sky, my beacon calling me back from the void."
Lena's breath caught. She tucked in close and kissed Kara on her nose.
"I'm tired," said Kara.
"Go to sleep," Lena whispered. âIt'll be okay. I'll still love you tomorrow."
With a contented smile, Kara closed her eyes, looking so peaceful that Lena wanted nothing more than to watch over her.
When Alex came in and laid a blanket over them, she had the most frustrating grin on her face.
Lena decided she'd allow it.

filming
lena oberdorf x actress!reader
summary: while filming in london, you have a special guest visit you at work
you're standing on set, mentally exhausted but pushing through as you try to channel the villain you're playing.Â
the heavy makeup, the dark clothes, everything about the character feels so different from who you are. it's been a long day, and while you're focused on your next scene, your thoughts keep drifting to lena, knowing she's in london too, playing against arsenal with wolfsburg in the champions league semi-final.Â
you wish you could be there, but acting doesnât exactly allow for last-minute trips across town.
"hey, can you turn around for a sec?" your costar says casually, snapping you out of your thoughts.
"uh, sure?" you respond, a little confused as you turn.
the sight that greets you makes your heart skip. lena's standing there, a playful smirk on her face, with sveindis right beside her.Â
you blink, trying to register that theyâre actually here, in the flesh, on your film set.
"what the hell?!" you exclaim, rushing over to them. "what are you doing here?"
lena chuckles, taking in your costume. "i had to see this for myself. my girlfriend, the horror villain. you look... terrifying, baby."
you laugh, rolling your eyes. "yeah, yeah, i know i look like i just crawled out of the underworld and the SFX makeup doesnât make this any better. but it's just a character, promise. i'm still me under all this."Â
"thank goodness," lena jokes, stepping closer and pulling you into a tight hug. "though, it kinda suits you."
"oh, shut up," you nudge her playfully, feeling a warmth settle in your chest at how easily she makes everything feel lighter. "i missed you."
"i missed you too," she murmurs, kissing your temple.Â
you turn to sveindis, grinning.Â
"and you! i can't believe you both came here. you know youâre my favorite of lena's friends, right?"
sveindis laughs, shaking her head. "i mean, i try."
"seriously though," you sigh, "i wish i could come to your game. itâs killing me that i can't be there."
"we know," lena says, her voice softening. "but youâre busy, and you're killing it here. we get it."
you nod, biting your lip. "yeah, but it still sucks."
"you'll see us in the final, though," sveindis adds confidently.
"damn right i will," you grin. "you better win."
"we'll try our best," lena says, squeezing your hand.
they donât stay long, knowing you're in the middle of filming, but before they leave, lena gives you another quick hug, whispering, "iâm proud of you, you know that?"
"i'm proud of you too. now go crush arsenal," you whisper back, your heart swelling with love as they walk away.
you spend the rest of the day filming, but your mind keeps replaying the moment with lena, that grounding presence she always brings with her.Â
when the director finally calls cut for the day, youâre exhausted but relieved to be done.Â
as soon as youâre back in your trailer, you pull out your phone and check the score. wolfsburg won.Â
you waste no time pulling out your phone to call lena. as soon as the ringing stops, you hear her excited voice on the other end.
âhey, baby! we did it!â she practically yells, and you can hear the noise of celebration in the background.
you canât help but laugh, her energy contagious. âi saw! iâve been dying over here, refreshing the score like a maniac.â
âyou shouldâve seen it,â lena says breathlessly, still riding the high of the win. âit was insane. poppi scored the winner, and everyone lost their minds!â
âiâm so proud of you,â you say softly, smiling to yourself. âi wish i couldâve been there.â
âdonât worry about it. youâre working hard too,â she reassures, though you can hear a little hint of longing in her voice.
âwell,â you pause, biting your lip, âiâve got news. iâm taking time off to come to eindhoven for the final. iâm gonna be there.â
thereâs a beat of silence before you hear her gasp. âyouâre serious?â
âof course! thereâs no way iâm missing this. iâll be in the stands, screaming my head off for wolfsburg.â
âoh my god,â lena breathes out, and you can practically see her smiling.Â
âthatâs... thatâs amazing. i didnât think youâd be able to make it.â
âwell, i pulled some strings,â you tease, feeling a weight lift from your chest just knowing youâll be there.Â
you didnât really need to pull any strings. the champions league game happens to fall on the week break that filming has.Â
âand as soon as filming wraps for good, iâm coming back to germany. i promise weâll have time again.â
âyou have no idea how much iâve missed you,â lena says quietly, her voice soft now, intimate.Â
âitâs been so hard with both of us being so busy.â
âi know,â you whisper, âbut weâll get through it. we always do.â
âgod, i canât wait to see you,â she says, the happiness in her voice clear as day. âitâs going to be perfect.â
âi canât wait either,â you reply, heart swelling with love. âand hey, tell sveindis sheâs still my favorite for scoring the last three games, okay?â
lena laughs, a sound that makes you feel like youâre home even though youâre still on set.Â
âiâll tell her. sheâll be so happy about it since she's a fan of yours.â
âawee,â you joke, leaning back in your chair.Â
âyou two better get some rest tonight. youâve got a champions league final to win soon.â
âdonât worry,â lena says confidently, âweâve got this. and knowing youâll be there... thatâs all the motivation i need.â
âi love you,â you say softly, letting the words settle between you.
âi love you too,â she replies, her voice warm and full of emotion. âsee you soon, okay?â
âsee you soon,â you echo, smiling to yourself as you hang up.Â

I really wanna do something where the reveal rift/post crisis stuff and the harunel serum coincide. With some witchery and Red Daughter thrown in for flavor. Its been percolating for a little bit, and since I'm trying to focus on the firefighter cop au, I'm going to word vomit some stuff here to get it out of my brain.
Basically, Lena and Kara have their falling out, and Kara leaves Lena to be a villain. Except Non Nocere doesn't happen and Lena just wants to get on top of her shit again. Like, Lex is a dick who doesn't deserve to be alive, so why would she just sit there and suffer his smarminess? She's not on his side, she's not on Supergirl's side-- she's on her own damn side.
Except Lex anticipates that, so he has Otis grab her and he sticks Lena in a Kaznian lab where they're experimenting with the harun-el serum, trying to see if they can use it to imbue humans with kryptonian powers without sacrificing control or turning them into monsters, right? It involves long and slow exposure, so they strap Lena down, stick her full of needles, and get to work.
But Red Daughter finds out, and though Lex gives her some bullshit about trying to help Lena, she doesn't quite buy into it. She can't bring herself to act directly against Lex, but she can't stand by while Lena is in agony.
So she goes to Mama Luthor.
Posing as Kara Danvers, she pointedly asks Lillian if she knows what Lex is doing, or what he has planned. She asks Lillian if she knows where her daughter is.
Which is how Lillian discovers that Lena is no longer in National City, and she tracks her children down to the Kaznian lab. She finds her way in and locates Lena-- and she is horrified by what she sees. Lena strapped to a table with a dozen needles puncturing into deep tissue, drugged and groggy and helpless. She's there when the next round of injections hits, and sees the agony as Lena screams and struggles against her bonds.
When the effects fade enough for Lena to go slack, Lillian immediately gets to work freeing her. She helps Lena off the table and supports her all the way back to helicopter she arrived in, shooting down any guard who tries to get in their way.
Lillian only knows one place Lena might be safe from Lex-- the Tower. The Superfriends open their pounding door to find Lillian standing there with Lena all but unconscious against her. Kara is of course horrified, and brings them in immediately. When she asks what happened, Lillian snaps "maybe you should tell me, Supergirl, as it was you who brought the situation to my attention."
Kara is utterly confused. "What? I haven't seen since before the end of the world" etc. Lillian glares at her.
"Well if it wasnt you, who was it?"
At that point, Red Daughter touches down on the balcony.
"It was me."
----
Once Red Daughter explains what she knows, they hunker down and wait for Lex. Its not long before a situation pulls them all from the Tower, and only when its over do they realize it was a ploy to get Lena alone.
They rush back to the Tower to find Lex's helicopter on the roof, and two goons already in the process of dragging a limp, hooded Lena to the waiting chopper while Lex oversees the operation from inside his Lexosuit. He is not at all surprised-- or concerned-- to see them.
He holds them all at bay while the helicopter takes off with Lena inside it. But as the aircraft rises higher into the sky, a strange pressure starts to build. Suddenly, a flash of purple heat vision slices through the helicopter from the inside out. It starts to spiral toward the ground, its crash inevitable.
"Go!" Kara shouts to Red Daughter, who zips over and manages to snatch Lena from the helicopter before it hits the ground. She lands with Lena cradled in her arms, except Lena is no longer limp-- no longer helpless.
Rising slowly, the odd pressure in the air continues to build as Lena opens her eyes to reveal her green eyes have gone completely black. Around her, every loose pebble, twig, and gravel on the roof starts to shake, humming with that same pressure. The detritus on the roof starts to lift into the air, hovering from thousands of invisible strings-- the strange energy charging the air is clearly coming from Lena.
She turns towards her brother, who has paused in his struggle against Supergirl to watch the pinnacle of his creation. It's strange, though-- matter manipulation wasn't a reported effect of the harun-el.
Just as he sees the moment of Kara's similar distraction for Lena, Lex turns and winds back to strike. The energy in the air seems to snap, and every bit of floating debris shoots straight towards Lex, with enough force to pierce skin and hull alike. It shreds the lexosuit to gaping, jagged metal-- but thats not enough.
The energy in the air starts to build again, but this time it's centered directly overtop Lex, pressing down and down until metal groans and rends, and Lex starts to heave for breath under the immense pressure.
That's when Kara comes back to herself. "Lena! Lena, stop!"
Lena doesn't seem to hear. All of her attention is on Lex, and when Kara edges closer, she sees that in the center of Lena's black eyes, purple irises glint expressionlessly in the sun.
"Lena, listen to me! I know you're in there! Please, you don't want to do this."
Kara moves to stand between Lena and her brother, intent on breaking Lena's intense eye contact with Lex, but Lena's head tilts to maintain it. Only then does Kara risk reaching out to touch her, turning Lena's face to look at her instead.
"I know you're in there," Kara says firmly. "And I need you to listen to me. Killing him might be the answer-- but it doesn't have to be *your* answer. This choice will destroy. It already almost did. So I am asking you, as my friend, to stop."
The last causes Lena to falter. She blinks, and Kara hears Lex gulp down a large breath as the pressure eases slightly. That's it.
"Yes," Kara coaxes. "Come on. Come back to us. Come back to me, Lena. Please."
Slowly, the black in Lena's eyes fade to their natural whites-- but the purple remains. Behind Kara she hears the Lexosuit clang uselessly againsy the roof as it collapses, Lex still trapped inside as he wheezes. Lena stares at Kara, blinking almost drunkenly in the sun.
"Kara..."
Kara issues a tearful laugh of relief, and throws her arms around Lena, hugging her close.
"Yes," she says, her chin wobbling. "I'm here, Lena."
Lena slowly lifts her arms to embrace her back, still dazed.

What's Wrong with 5B?
(aka: how Itâs a Super Life ruined everything)
The premiere of season 5 was simple. Kara fucked up, felt deeply sorry for it, and revealed her secret to Lena (driven solely by her guilt) after far too long of gaslighting her. Unfortunately, it was a bit too late, Lena was already (rightfully) pissed and about to exact a(n outsized) revenge about it. Easy peasy.
We see Kara struggle with it a little. She gives Lena the superwatch, looking super guilty the whole time. She brings Lena international treats, talks to Alex about how sheâs nervous about interacting with Lena. But she seems to have underestimated the damage sheâs caused - and Lena is going through a major disillusionment.Â
Both of which are mostly in character from my perspective. But with the caveat that, I knew the basic summary of the Rift before I watched the show. So those were moments the characters were already building to in my head. (I know some people think that Karaâs reaction in season 3 was out of character, or that Lenaâs reaction in 5A was out of character, and those are valid opinions that are worth exploring! If I watched the show unfold live, maybe Iâd be in that camp too.)
We then see Lenaâs betrayal and Kara scrambling to pull Lena back from the edge into an anti-villain arc. The Crisis happens, Kara visits Lena, and Lena calls Kara out - âWhat did you think would happen when you came here? That you'd tell me everything in a fit of selflessness, even if it meant that I knew how you betrayed me, and then I'd just keel over and forgive you?â Kara still knows she did something wrong, and vows to never do it again.
Aaaaand then Itâs A Super Life (beloved/beloathed) happens.
I really liked the episode the first time I saw it. I was a supercorp shipper who hadnât read a single fic. And on its face, I mean, they dedicated the entire 100th episode to the relationship between Kara and Lena and trying to repair it. It failed, sure, but they'd make up eventually (again, I was spoiled).
But that episode was really about absolving Kara. It was a bizarre conclusion. Kara no longer had fault, because any reality they tried out wouldâve failed. ⊠which makes no damn sense. Even if no reality could work (Iâm skeptical), Kara didnât know that at the time she made her decisions. She still has fault for the harm she knew she was causing (even if it happened to work out better than the alternatives she didnât know about).
I think this is a narrative shift. This isnât just about the in-universe âKara believes sheâs absolvedâ. This is a writer's ploy to change the narrative and make the audience think that Kara didnât have fault. Writing this as a character flaw mightâve worked, maybe, if they had Kara reexamine her assumptions later. But as a narrative? ⊠the shift fell completely flat.
The rift was canceled at this point. Suddenly it was no longer the story of two peopleâs flaws interplaying in the worst possible way. Suddenly it was: Kara is right, Lena is wrong, let us never speak of it again.
It makes everything that comes after really grating. The end of 5x19 (where Kara goes âmaybe Iâm ready to forgive you nowâ and shakes Lenaâs hand) feels completely empty, because thereâs no acknowledgement from Kara that she fucked up - a fact she fully understood at the beginning and middle of the season! It bleeds into season 6, where we never see Lena hash things out with the superfriends or with Kara post-return. It makes the finale (Lenaâs âYou made me a better personâ) fall flat. At this point multiple people in the fandom have pointed out that itâs Melissaâs acting that is Karaâs saving grace (though even that has limitations, as many of us felt with Sadie). But Kara as a character really suffers - and with it, her relationship with Lena, and Lena's arc - because the writers did not make a convincing argument for their shift.Â
The heroâs always right, I guess? The main character canât have major flaws? (I hope someday we learned what instructions they were getting in the writing room đ)
For my own sanity, I have a whole slew of conversations(/arguments) in my head that I place into season 6 to fix some of this (as well as making Mxy a liar who was trying to make his friend feel better, rather than those other timelines being real). But while theyâre canon-compliant⊠they arenât canon. What we needed was something on screen to make the relationship shine again, to have Kara revisit why her rationale absolving her in the 100th episode didnât follow at all, and have Lena work through her issues with Kara and the rest of the superfriends. But we didnât get that.
Which means everything post-100th will always feel wrong to me.

Propaganda
Lena Horne (Cabin in the Sky, Stormy Weather)â Incredibly talented biracial actress, singer, dancer, and activist (she did so much work towards integrating audiences). Because of the racism of the era, she rarely got to be the lead actress but filmmakers loved her so much that they would often create stand alone segments within a film to highlight her beautiful singing, knowing that these segments would ultimately be cut from the film by censors in areas that forbid films with Black performers. Also, she's just so wonderful in Cabin in the Sky as a gold-digger villain who is not the least bit subtle about her intentions. I would highly recommend checking out her work.
Ginger Rogers (Swing Time, Top Hat)âLook Iâll level with you, Iâve never seen her in a musical and I know that sheâs an amazing dancer and sheâll be even hotter when I finally watch Top Hat but Iâm not submitting her as a dancer Iâm submitting her as an ACTRESS. Her comic timing is impeccable!!!!! Sheâs full to bursting with life and in every role she seems to be having FUN, you can practically feel the twinkle in her eye. With her natural warmth itâs like sheâs letting you in on the joke, yâall get to have this fun together! Making me laugh is hot!!! [If you'd like to see Ginger dance, videos below the cut]
This is round 3 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]
Lena Horne:

64.media.tumblr.com
Black American powerhouse singer and actor who faced all the usual bullshit that any BIPOC faced in vintage Hollywood and achieved legendary status anyway. Also a Civil Rights movement icon.
She was a gem

She was so beautiful and those dimples are amazing! Truly depressing how badly Hollywood treated her because she was black. I would love to have seen what she really could have been if they didnât cast her in so many yikes roles. Sheâs got gorgeous eyes and that body! Her joyful smile makes happiness sexy!
youtube
Civil rights actress, singer, dancer, actress, she's got the whole package

Lena Horne was a wonderful singer and actress who largely starred in black cast musicals. While she had a lot of main stream success, she ultimately lost the lead role in showboat (a role she had played on the stage) to a white actress due to hollywood's prejudices. She was also blacklisted during the HUAC hearings, but she still managed to be hot be hot as fuck and have a career spanning decades, working with more well-known stars like Judy Garland in musicals, and working on stage and releasing albums when her hollywood career began to suffer.

Miss Horne became famous during a period of time when Hollywood had very few meaningful roles for people of color. Although she is more so known as a performer, she starred in two successful all black productions (Cabin in the Sky & Stormy Weather). If that wasn't enough, she also guest starred on the Muppets (Season 1, Episode 11)
Ginger Rogers propaganda:

She needs no introduction! An undeniable powerhouse on the dancefloor, and no less talented an actress. I once watched a compilation of cinema's greatest dance scenes and one of her and Fred Astaire's dances was featured, and one of the talking heads said he pitied her for 'having to keep up with him' - or something to that effect. Bullshit, I cry. Ginger Rogers was his absolute equal, and underplaying her incredible skill is downright criminal. I want the 'Cheek to Cheek' sequence from Top Hat to be permanently burned into my memory.

"Backwards in high heels", as the saying goes (though the pedant in me must point out that she in fact spent her fair share of time leading or dancing side-by-side). One of the earliest twinkle-toed ladies of the silver screen, and in terms of acting/persona, her balance of wide-eyed cuteness and movie-star glamour has never quite been replicated.

we all know her beloved string of musicals with fred but ginger also has an extensive and varied non-fred filmography that she's great in! a few ginger moments that are important 2 me personally ginger singing âweâre in the moneyâ in gold diggers of 1933, complete with a verse in pig latin bc this whole movie is kinda mocking the concept of anyone actually being in the money in 1933; ginger and una merkel singing a verse of âshuffle off to buffaloâ in 42nd street, providing some statler & waldorf-esque commentary on newlyweds from the upper berth of a railway car (interesting that belly was apparently a risque word in 1933 - maybe its bc the lyric is innuendo-ing about out of wedlock pregnancies - and that panties was a term for menâs underthings!); a favorite fred & ginger number
Ginger Rogers could do everything! She could sing, dance and act. She was hilarious in comedies, moving in dramatic roles (she won an Oscar for Kitty Foyle in 1940) and absolutely gorgeous!
Listen, no shade to Fred Astaire at all, but she both kept up with him step for step and then later went on to WIN AN OSCAR FOR ACTING. (which he did not.) truly a double threat!!!

One of the best dancers in Hollywood! Her work with Fred Astaire is just incredible.
ONE LINE: "Everything Fred did, Ginger did backwards and in heels" AND THEYRE RIGHT! Rogers was a total dance badass, and a lot of movie buffs know the story, but the Never Gonna Dance number from Swing Time took almost 50 takes, and allegedly by the end of filming it her white shoes had been stained pink because her feet were bleeding. As a note, she looks crazy gorgeous in this number. Watching these two dance is insane. They match up to each other in a way my mom describes as "divine" and she's right. DANCE NUMBERS!
youtube
Let's Call The Whole Thing Off (Shall We Dance, 1937, dancing starts at 3:14, they're in ROLLERSKATES)
youtube
(Ginger Rogers is the hottest woman ever to live in this number. seeing this as a teenager altered my brain chemistry)
youtube
(also watch her feet and how she moves opposite Astaire in this one. We all know our boy Freddie had that precision demon but jesus christ Miss Rogers, let a girl live!)
Pick Yourself Up, Swing Time 1936 (Everyone's seen this one but by god you are going to see it AGAIN!)
youtube
Shall We Dance, 1937 (duet begins at 2:34)
youtube
Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, Roberta 1935 (There's just something about Ginger Rogers in a slick black dress man)
youtube
The Continental, The Gay Divorcee 1934

God she's MAGIC in this one.
Gay Divorcee's Ending Montage 1934

The infamous table and chairs spin happens at about 0:49. Pay CLOSE attention to her in this bc it looks like witchcraft and I feel lightheaded whenever I watch this movie bc shes THAT awesome.
She is a miracle to watch. Sorry for the sheer amount of clips. My entire family is like madly in love with Ginger Rogers.

đ„do you have any more for the cw's supergirl bc the last one was so so so so funny and real and true
thank youuu i had to think about this one though bc to be honest i saw this ask and the entirety of cw supergirl disappeared from my brain. but now i have remembered things to be salty about. looping in @yourlocalegotisticalqueerishere who also asked. anyway this one is not quite so funny unforchy, it's more morbid as hell?? but um i think the way the show/the superfriends handled the aftermath of crisis is genuinely really disturbing.
@sideguitars and i have talked a lot about this and i touched on it in my fic which everyone should go readies right now :3 but basically. the result of crisis is that everyone in the arrowverse (except a select few people - barry, kara, kate kane, the legends of tomorrow lady i legitimately forgot her name, j'onn, lex, ryan choi, technically the wellses who are stored instead nash (?), jennifer pierce, & lastly lena due to lex's deal with the monitor) dies. and when the world is "reset" j'onn flies around restoring a lot of the main characters' memories but not all of them. in practice, all the shows treat this less like our beloved characters have literally died and been replaced and their replacements have 'our' versions' memories in their heads as well, and much more like restoring memories effectively brings our dead versions back to life. let us proceed with the assumption that this is more or less what is happening, because that is how the shows act.
now there are 2 ways to read the morality of this action of restoring memories, which notably happens multiple times without consent from the person involved. #1 is that the new versions of these characters are people in their own right and deserve to live. through this reading, restoring 'our' versions is a violation of these people, tantamount to murder; it is overwriting their inconvenient experiences with the experiences of people our characters like better. there is no material difference, in this reading, between what j'onn does to the people whose memories he restores and what lena does to eve in s5 when she puts hope in her brain. through this reading, the superfriends are pure villains. you could imagine a superhero movie with this very plot, in fact: a sympathetic supervillain from another universe that got erased trying to replace people from this universe with people from their own.
#2 is that our versions of these characters, for whatever reason, deserve to live more than the new versions (or versions from any other earths). through this reading, it is justifiable to restore people's memories without consent, but anyone who is not restored is effectively being allowed to die, an act of criminal negligence by a band of so-called superheroes. the limits of who gets chosen to have their memories returned then become morbidly fascinating. on supergirl -- which is the only show that crisis really affects at all, frankly (besides arrow i guess but who gives a fuck), so it's kind of the only one where any of this matters -- we know for a fact that j'onn restores alex, nia, brainy, kelly, and clark and probably lois and maybe m'gann also i forget tbh. i think it is reasonable to assume he also restored james. i certainly hope he did! but we know he did not restore, say, cat grant, or andrea rojas, or william dey, or other people outside their immediate circle.
which raises questions like: why kelly? because she is alex's girlfriend of a few months? because she is james's sister? well, what about mama olsen? did they restore her memories? surely not remembering lex luthor torturing her son would change her significantly. what about alex's fake latina ex-girlfriend, maggie sawyer? does she not get her memories back, on account of being merely the ex, not the current girlfriend of supergirl's sister? and so on.
but of course the biggest crime by far is that the superfriends do not know that lex made a deal with the monitor for lena's survival and they believe she perished. and they do nothing to bring her memories back. this is despite the fact that she is unquestionably the number one person affected by the change to the universe. please consider that the biggest change to earth-prime from earth-38 is that lex luthor now never went evil, is friends with the supers, and is still in charge of luthorcorp. obviously this has a trickle-down effect on many people's lives, but i would think it obvious that the person most impacted is his little sister who he abused and manipulated for her entire life (per s4), who was left to deal with the fallout of his going evil and, oh yeah, who recently had to kill him. and now suddenly he is back in her life and has power over her and he remembers every way that she (rightfully) betrayed him. in fact i think it is not at all a stretch to say that lex's primary motivation in how he set up earth-prime was gaining more control over lena (which is why it's interesting and speaks to a lingering ember of humanity and love in lex that he lets her keep her memories at all).
and for some reason none of the superfriends are like. hey maybe lena, our former friend whose last action before her (apparent) death was helping to save three billion people at the superfriends' behest, deserves to live and know the full truth of who her brother is and what their relationship has been. alex even tries to argue that kara shouldn't tell lena about any of their history at all because then lena might be mad at kara for all the lying and that would, you know, suck for kara personally. which, like, i guess kara wanting to tell lena the truth is a step up from that load of horseshit, but again, none of you considered restoring her memories? you're just going to let her stay dead? after alex, j'onn, and kara all agreed in 5x08 that lena was not a lost cause and could still be saved? lmao. okay.
and then once they realize lena has her memories we again have the issue of like. why is it that alex and kara get to have THEIR support systems restored but lena doesn't? again. lena is the one whose life has been MOST overturned by crisis. she is the one currently under her abuser's thumb -- her abuser who is the only one who apparently bothered to consider saving her life, and who is the only non-superfriend she knows who also remembers their previous earth. which, keeping in mind that as far as she knows all the superfriends were down to kill her in 5x08 with a nuclear fucking missile, means that she has literally nowhere safe to go.
like. one of her best and most supportive friends was sam arias. and to be fair s5 seems dead set on pretending sam never existed with the exception of 5x13. but if she wanted to go to sam, it wouldn't be the same sam with knowledge of earth-38. andrea, also, isn't the same andrea. they make it a point to show us she has a different backstory. even lillian isn't the same lillian, and, i mean, lillian was indeed abusive to lena, but earth-38 lillian was more on her side than earth-prime lillian is. lena has literally no one. she has her abusive brother and her former friends who lied to her for years and tried to kill her (as far as she knows) and that's it. but alex gets her girlfriend of a few months back. and kara gets her cousin back. because what kara and alex want matters, and what lena needs does not matter. and then the superfriends are all Shocked and Appalled that lena goes back to lex. which like. i don't love that as a story beat either, but i put it to you: where the fuck else was she supposed to go?
anyway i could rant about this all day long lol but basically it points to how profoundly unconcerned the superfriends were with lena's status as lex's first and primary victim, which really undermines their later claims that they're lena's new and better family. and it also points to how little the show itself cared about the psychology of abuse victims (particularly female ones) that this was never factored into how they wrote the reconciliation between lena & the superfriends. and more broadly the whole thing suggests a frankly eerie self-centeredness on the part of the superfriends that makes all their moral posturing seem hollow. no matter which way you read the morality of restoring people's memories post-crisis, the superfriends (mostly kara, j'onn, and alex tbf) acted callously, selfishly, and without care for the very people they were supposed to protect. and, as always, lena luthor suffered for it.
#me: *points at lena luthor* can someone get this woman out of the torment nexus please#the superfriends: damn she's in the torment nexus? that sucks...hope she gets out...thoughts and prayers đ#up up and away#lesbianmarrow

Eddie is a really shitty friend! Yeah, Hen and Chim kind of suck for the way they're acting too, but Eddie is really digging himself into a hole. I sincerely hope Buck doesn't forgive him for what he did. He wasn't trying to protect his friend, he just wanted his comfortable life back with the Buck that would drop everything for him, not mopey heartbroken Buck. Heartbroken Buck is no fun for Eddie and that's just NOT acceptable!
I honestly feel like some of that translates over into canon. Buck seems far more invested in their friendship than Eddie. Eddie often sees Buck as someone who's convenient to rescue him when he fucks up or to take care of his kid when he needs a babysitter. Lena Bosko said it best when she said being friends with Eddie was a one way street.
Ohh you get me đ you really get me!!
While itâs not my intention to make Eddie some villain in this story, I do agree that it matches up with canon Eddie. I also think itâs a bit of a one way street there, even if thatâs not the way the show intends it to be. Thatâs how itâs often written.

guess what fellas. I finished the oc. finally.
Magdalena Mercer
Or Lena for short. But she gets mildly annoyed when people call her that, especially if she doesn't know them.
She has a tragedy mask instead of a comedy mask. I headcanon that the people who had always worked for Mary had roses on their masks and the ones who originally worked for Larry had theirs blank, so Magdalena has roses on hers.
Pretty short, about 5 feet tall. Her bad posture makes her look even shorter.
Constant thousand-yard stare. She emotes only when the emotion is strong enough (i.e. not often, kinda dead inside), and there would be an immediate jarring change in her facial expression.
Hair covers left side of her face. Definitely not just because I don't want to draw the roses all the time đ€« but I drew her headshots without that so you can see what her entire face looks like.
Left eye doesn't open all the way. The eye is fine, just the eyelid doesn't work properly
Sallow skin, bloodshot eyes, skinny to the point of looking unhealthy, always shivering for a reason that I am gonna explain
She would be in her 20s as of the first Break In game. She went to Purge University, but not at the same time as the Scarys of course because she would've been too young
Ok now for her backstory
Magdalena was a student at Purge University who double majored in mechanical engineering and biotechnology. She made no friends because she actively distanced herself from everyone. She was destitute, so she took out a loan from the mafia to pay tuition as no banks in the city were willing to lend her the amount she needed. She was ultimately unable to repay the money soon enough and ended up working for the mafia to pay it off. It's possible that they sabotaged her career to ensure such an outcome.
Anyhow. Mary was the one in charge of her, and Magdalena was highly skilled in the engineering field, so she eventually became one of Mary's chief assistants. As such, they worked together closely, but the relationship was extremely businesslike since Magdalena wasn't much more than an indentured servant. If you asked one of them about the other, they'd say they know each other but neither of them would have claimed they were friends. As for her fellow mafiosos, she was on neutral terms with most of them. Some of them might have liked to antagonize her or kick her around since her demeanor is utterly pathetic, but Magdalena is the highly observant type and knew when some bullshit was about to go down. She would always just leave the area when it was about to start. One person who she was on relatively good terms with was the Brute Villain (who I gave the fanon name Markus so I don't have to keep typing out Brute Villain. And I'm gonna act like he survived Break In 2 since he doesn't fall into literal pieces like the other minions when you defeat them). Markus hated being annoyed, so he preferred her company because she was quiet and unobtrusive. The number of times she talked to him without being spoken to first could probably be counted on one hand, but Magdalena liked to hang around Markus because other mobsters were much less likely to start shit when he was there. Mutually beneficial relationship. Plus, neither of them liked Mary that much. Markus worked for Larry before he was defeated and he was a little bit iffy about the new boss.
Magdalena was one of the personnel involved in Mary's experiments on Larry. For the record, Magdalena never liked working for the mafia, and she liked it even less whenever Mary assigned her to work on one of her experiments (which was all the fucking time). Not that Larry would give a shit about that if he ever got his hands on Magdalena. And she dresses like she raided Spirit Halloween's steampunk isle during the last purge, so he would definitely recognize her if he ever ran into her post-Break In 2. Anyway. When the players defeated the final boss at the end of Break In 2, Magdalena and Markus took advantage of the chaos to escape the base. Markus thought he might be able to ally with his old boss. Magdalena wanted to break away from the mafia entirely, but she didn't tell him that. However, Magdalena ran away when they were cut off by a group of Mary's loyalists, and Markus followed her into a storage room where some wind-up key prototypes were being kept, kind of like the small ones that Larry kept in his mansion (I remember they exist because of one of junkzinterludeâs posts lol). These ones hadn't been tested before--at least not on humans--but Magdalena urged Markus to use one on her anyway as she was worried about getting killed by the other mobsters that were after them, so he did. He did not want a key used on himself, and she didn't ask him if he did either.
They both confronted the other mobsters, but Markus knew Magdalena was useless in a fight and was also skeptical about how strong an effect the key was going to have on her, so he told her to flee the base without him. Joke was on him though since she was about to do that anyway lol bye Markus. She didn't see what happened to him, but I will tell you he fucked those mobsters up and escaped the base as well. He and Magdalena haven't managed to reunite, though (at least not yet).
Magdalena hid in the woods surrounding the base, and now she had a suspicious untested key in her back. Well, turns out this particular type of key functioned more like a parasite. Either that or she just didn't have the physical toughness to handle the effects. She was always frail and kind of sickly. The strength boost only lasted about a day, and after that she was even feebler than before. That's why she looks like such shit underneath her mask.
So. Magdalena is weak and alone in the woods. Next purge is in eight days. She has her crowbar, toolbox and nothing else. How does she survive? Well. She avoids confrontation whenever she can, but I told you she was highly skilled when it comes to engineering and I meant what I said. When expecting to be attacked soon, she shows up at an abandoned factory. Any machine factory would do. Where does she find them? I don't fucking know, they just spawn in near her whenever the narrative demands it I guess. She held more than a few engineering jobs before she got sucked into the mob. She probably knows where the factories are. Anyway. Magdalena has enough expertise to refit one of the assembly lines to produce small robots out of scrap metal and whatever else is lying around in the warehouse. They're not hi-tech killing machines or anything like that, but they are enough to cause problems for anyone trying to reach her. They'd come at you in groups, maybe swarms if that type of bot is small enough. They would have a fair shot at killing anyone who wasn't prepared for them, and if they were prepared then they'd still likely buy Magdalena enough time to escape from her would-be attackers.
And now we have reached the present day, backstory over đ
Yeah I made the 1324874th Break In OC with a wind-up key, I know I'm so original lmao. Magdalena's is silver instead of gold and has a little rust on it. It's also smaller than the ones on the Scarys.
About her personality and other stuff:
Magdalena has a polite enough disposition, but in a vaguely unsettling way. Her "vibes are off" so to speak. Most people who talk to her for a bit will be able to tell her cordiality is fake. If you speak to her for long enough she will gradually drop the fake shit and become snippy, or outright verbally belligerent if you're some random colleague of hers who is refusing to leave her alone.
Primary personality trait is bitter. Bitter about being born into poverty. Bitter about having to attend Purge University because she had no better options. Bitter about not being able to hold a job. Bitter about being forced to work for Mary. Bitter about the parasite stuck to her back. You could probably taste the bitterness on your tongue if you spent enough time around her. She holds long grudges but is generally too cowardly to be vengeful, so she tends to just marinate in even more bitterness.
Post-Break In 2, she doesn't really mind the presence of other mafiosos but will avoid the bosses at all costs, Larry for obvious reasons and Mary (plus the others) because she doesn't want to be roped back into the mob.
Very cowardly. Unwilling to stand up to her superiors. Will run from a fight whenever possible. And she runs fast as fuck when her life is in danger, that's her one and only physical advantage. So evasive that she would be gone if you looked away from her for a second, as if she teleported or some shit.
Very disinclined towards violence. During the purge, Magdalena steals a bunch of shit instead of killing. This stems partially from her cowardice plus her unwillingness to hurt people without a good enough reason, but also the fact that she is hopeless in melee combat. Mary never sent her to fight for this reason. She is fairly good with a gun (one-handed, the recoil from anything two-handed would probably knock her on her ass) but she was not allowed to have one back in the base, and she still doesn't have one.
She blinks way less than usual. Like maybe a couple times each minute. That's part of the reason why her eyes are always bloodshot. Speaking of her eyes, her left eye is like that because her wind-up key's roots burrowed into her slightly incorrectly (again, janky untested key model that maybe wasn't even meant to be used on humans) and fucked up her nervous system a little bit. Nothing too important was damaged but yeah that's why her eyelid is weird.
Here is Magdalena's toolbox. She keeps her tools in it (obviously) and maybe some spare parts and scrap metal. Also one of her little mechanical weirdos. This one could fit in your palm and she had a handful of these even when she still worked in the base. They would carry stuff to her sometimes (all of them would have to help drag the object since they're small). When they weren't doing that, they'd be crawling all over her, which some of her coworkers thought was creepy, especially the ones that happened to be entomophobiacs, lol.
Here have the first pic I drew of Magdalena. Actually I think the headshots might have been finished before this. But I definitely started this one first. Idk. Who cares. Started making this post on the 11th and now itâs the 21st that's 10 DAYS bruh. Why did I put so much effort into an OC that I might never even use for anything lol this is dumb. too lazy to check this post for typos. I'm going the fuck to sleep now lmao gn.

Recentish movies of note, or not:
BOTTOMS: Ridiculous "teen" comedy about two gay high school losers, PJ (Rachel Sennott, who also co-wrote with director Emma Seligman) and Josie (Ayo Edebiri), who seize on a rumor about their having been in juvenile detention to start an after-school "self-defense club," in the hope that introducing the school's hottest cheerleaders to the cathartic thrill of girls beating the shit out of each other will finally give these hopeless (and ho-less) virgins a chance to score. So silly that complaining about the stupidity of the plot seems a tad churlish, but the story misses some obvious comedic opportunities, and despite the premise, the film eventually becomes far more interested in cartoonish violence than sex. If you dig the overall vibe, you might not care, but as a gay teen sex comedy, it's ultimately less successful (and less outrageous) than BOOKSMART, even though only one of the latter film's teen loser heroines is gay.
DO REVENGE: Black comedy homage to the teen comedies of the '90s and early '00s, inspired in part by the 1951 movie version of STRANGERS ON A TRAIN, about a disgraced prep school popular girl, Drea (Camila Mendes), who joins forces with gay weirdo Eleanor (Maya Hawke) to avenge herself on her former friends and find out who leaked her sex tape â a plan that involves giving Eleanor a makeover so she can infiltrate the popular kids. Hawke is a delight, Mendes is very good, and the homoerotic tension of their odd relationship makes the movie fun for a while, especially if you appreciate the many self-conscious homages to prior teen movies. However, a major reveal late in the second act makes hash of the already sloppy plot, and the finale is both nonsensical and as antisemitic as STRANGERS ON A TRAIN author Patricia Highsmith, which leaves a sour aftertaste.
IT'S A WONDERFUL KNIFE: Bizarre slasher movie pastiche of IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE, about a teenage girl named Winnie Carruthers (Jane Widdop of YELLOWJACKETS), who kills the masked serial killer who's been terrorizing the small town of Angel Falls and murdered her best friend (Hana Huggins) at Christmastime. A year later, everyone in town seems to have gotten over it except Winnie, who's miserable. On Christmas Eve, she's magically transported into an alternate timeline where she was never born and the masked slasher has continued murdering people, including Winnie's brother (Aiden Howard). To set things right, Winnie has to stop the villain all over again with the help of Bernie Simon (Jess McLeod), the town outcast and the only one who believes her story. Not scary, gruesome, or suspenseful enough to be much of a horror movie, but there are enough grisly murders to make the comedic holiday fantasy aspects seem a trifle sociopathic, and a late reveal that the killer has supernatural powers beyond just stabbing or slashing people feels like one ingredient too many in an already convoluted plot. The main redeeming feature is that it's ultimately a gay love story, which I wasn't expecting, but appreciated nonetheless.
THE KILL ROOM: Uma Thurman, Samuel L. Jackson, Joe Manganiello, and Maya Hawke go slumming in this dumb black comedy about a handsome hitman named Reggie (Manganiello) who becomes the sensation of the art world after his mob intermediary (Jackson) concocts a scheme to launder Reggie's payments by selling his abstract paintings (under the nom de plume "the Bagman") through a burned-out, Adderall-snorting art dealer (Thurman). Intended satire of the cutthroat vacuity of the art world lacks bite and no part of the plot makes any sense, but sheer star power gets the movie through about half its 80-minute running time before the banality becomes terminal.
POLITE SOCIETY: Silly British action-comedy by Nida Manzoor (creator of WE ARE LADY PARTS) about Ria Khan (Priya Kansara, delightful), a Pakistani teenager who aspires to be a stuntwoman, and her quest to save her flaky art student older sister Lena (Ritu Arya, radiant) from marrying a handsome doctor (Ashay Khanna) who seems a little too good to be true. It looks great, and the characters are very charming, but the story waits much too long to clarify the stakes of the plot: Until the finale, we don't know if Lena is actually in any danger or if Ria is just letting her imagination run away with her, and that uncertainty becomes an unwelcome distraction in the later action sequences. As a result, it feels more like an update of the John Hughes perennial SIXTEEN CANDLES than the over-the-top action movie it obviously aspires to be.
SHIVA BABY: Low-key but vivid comedy of manners, written and directed by Emma Seligman, starring Rachel Sennott as Danielle, a bisexual 20something Jewish girl who secretly pays her bills as a sugar baby. When she goes with her parents (Fred Melamed and Polly Draper) to a shiva, she finds herself trapped with not only her most annoying relatives, but also her disgruntled ex-girlfriend (Molly Gordon), her current sugar daddy (Danny Deferrari), his gorgeous blond wife (Dianna Agron), and their new baby. Seligman milks every awkward nuance of this uncomfortable social situation for maximum dramatic effect, and the tension of the final scene (which is nothing more complicated than the characters trying to squeeze into the back of Danielle's father's minivan) will drive you right up the wall.
VOLEUSES (WINGWOMEN): Is it really possible for a 40-year-old Frenchwoman living in the 21st century to not know that lesbians exist? One wouldn't think so, but watching this jokey buddy-action movie suggests that director/co-writer/star MĂ©lanie Laurent desperately needs some kind of educational intervention in that regard. This is for all intents and purposes a lesbian romance: Master thieves Carole (Laurent) and Alex (AdĂšle Exarchopoulos) live together, routinely sleep in the same bed, and plan to retire together; they constantly express their love and affection for one another, and when Carole discovers that she's pregnant (the hows of which are never explained), Alex immediately assumes that they'll be moms together. Nonetheless, the story not only attempts to no-homo this cozy domestic scenario, but also presumes that there's no way Carole and Alex's relationship could ever be the de facto marriage it obviously already is â indeed, a crucial story moment involves Carole tearfully wishing she were a man so she could love Alex the way she deserves! If the movie had been made 50+ years ago, this might be poignant, but in 2023, it's just weird, and the resulting cognitive dissonance largely overshadows the thin plot, which concerns Carole and Alex trying to persuade their bitchy, cheerfully murderous employer Marraine (Isabelle Adjani, barely recognizable beneath her big hair and oversized sunglasses) to let them retire, while training a younger woman named Sam (Manon Bresch) to become their driver and the ambiguously defined third in their domestic mĂ©nage Ă trois.

âYou ARE using Myriad.â
âLena, what are you doing here?â
âQuestion is, what are you doing here, Supergirl? I thought it was forbidden to use Myriad but forbidden for anyone but you.â
âThere are people missing, dozens of them stuck in Obsidian's VR. I have to find them.â
âThere are other ways to find people than Myriad. I can think of four off the top of my head, but you, you do what you want.â
âWhat I'm doing is finding people your brother disappeared.â
âDo you have any proof that it was LexâŠno, I didn't think so. You just return to your default position of blaming a Luthor. You did tell me you'd treat me like a villain.â
âIf you acted like one, yeah, I did say that. And right now, you're trespassing, and I don't have time for this. You need to go.â
âI'll leave when you stop using Myriad.â
âThat's not gonna happen.â
âTo think that I was sincere with you yesterday. Then I guess you're used to being two-faced.â
Kara stared blankly at the ceiling. When she arrived home, she hadnât even bothered to get out of her Super-suit. She skipped her fridge, her appetite nonexistent. Hell, she hadnât even bothered to turn the lights on, instead opting to faceplant into her bed.
It had been a miserable dayâŠ. scratch that, an exceptionally miserable day.
Now, mind you, not the worst day of her life; that distinguished honor belonged solely to the day she watched her planet die. Today wasnât worse than the day Astra died, or the day Reign beat her into a coma, or the day she watched an antimatter wave destroy Argo (yes, it was later restored, but she didnât know that at the time).Â
No, todayâs suffering ranked somewhere between dating Mon-El and Alex having her memories of Karaâs secret identity removed, less about death and destruction and more about emotional damage.
It all started yesterday: Lena had come to her office and offered her condolences regarding Jeremiahâs death, even going so far as to provide her a copy of âGoing On Beingâ to help her through the grieving process. It was an emotional albeit awkward exchange, but it was the first time since Lena had stolen Myriad that the two of them had spoken without any underlying hostility. It was the first time Kara had seen a glimmer of the old Lena; with all the warmth, kindness, and compassion that she knew her former best friend once felt toward her. There was no sign of hate or malice in her voice, just sympathy and understanding.
Rao, she even called her âKaraâ.
It gave Kara hope. Hope that maybe this was Lenaâs way of offering an olive branch. Hope that things werenât so far gone between them that they couldnât mend the bridge that had been razed by their lies. More importantly, hope that Kara could reveal to Lena all the other secrets that the CEO was still unaware of.
Unfortunately, todayâs encounters with Lex, the Morae, the baby Sun-Eater, and Lenaâs impromptu visit to the Fortress of Solitude had laid waste to Karaâs burgeoning hope.
If Kara was being honest with herself, the issues with Lex, the Morae, and Kalâs pet Sun-Eater (they were going to have a very long, unpleasant conversation about that the next time she saw him) were nothing exceptional, just an average Tuesday in the life of a Super. What kept her mind stuck in a cycle of self-flagellation was her argument with Lena. She continued to replay the conversation in her head and the more she dissected it, the angrier she became at herself.
To put it succinctly, sheâd been stupid.
What she said was stupid.
What she did was stupid.
Stupid.
Stupid.
Stupid.
There were dozens of other things she could have said or done during their confrontation. Instead, she continued to throw more gasoline on the inferno their relationship had become. At this point, sheâd lost count of how many asinine mistakes sheâd made since Lena had entered her life.
The look on Lenaâs face when she discovered she was using Myriad continued to haunt her. She could see anger, betrayal, and worst of all, disappointment written all over the CEOâs face. Kara continued to torture herself trying to figure out what Lena was most disappointed about. Was it Karaâs perceived hypocrisy regarding Myriad or was it her dismissive attitude towards Lenaâs objections to her using it?
It occurred to her that maybe Lena put just as much value as she did in their conversation at CatCo the previous day. Maybe she was just as hopeful that they were on their way to repairing their tattered relationship, only to have the possibility utterly crushed.
All Kara knew at this point was that any chance of mending her broken heart had been ripped away and she had no one to blame but herself.
Compounding all of this was a nagging question that was quickly forcing its way into the forefront of Karaâs thoughts; something Lena had said during their brief tĂȘte-Ă -tĂȘte. It was a throwaway observation that Lena had made that, at the time, had been overshadowed by much more biting, cruel remarks. On the surface, it seemed completely benign, but as Kara often did, she pulled the statement apart piece by piece hoping to find if there was something she was missing. Some hidden clue that might provide her with a way to unfuck the situation.
Karaâs frustration was maxing out her patience. Under normal circumstances, if she was confused by something someone had said, sheâd just ask them for clarification. But that wasnât possible with Lena. Sheâd made it very clear that Kara was persona non grata at both her penthouse and L-Corp. Sheâd be pissed if Kara showed up unannounced at either location just to ask her to explain her comment. It would be reckless and stupid to just fly to wherever Lena was and confront her. She would have to be out of her mind to even contemplate being within a hundred yards of Lena after what transpired today.
Right?
WellâŠit would be if Kara didnât have a plan.
A plan like the one she had just come up with.
Kara shut her eyes and tuned out the cacophony of sounds surrounding her to find a very specific heartbeat.
Kara sprung from her bed and made a mad dash to grab her cellphone off the kitchen counter; rapidly pulling up Alexâs contact.
*****
After a quick stop at the Tower to pick up the âpackageâ that Alex had prepared for her, Kara continued on to her final destination.
Two hundred yards out from Lenaâs penthouse, Karaâs super-hearing picked up the sound of proximity sensors alerting Lena to her approach. She heard Lenaâs heartbeat spike at the automated notification accompanied shortly thereafter by a few sniffles. It sounded like the CEO was or had recently been crying. As much as Kara wanted to use her x-ray vision to confirm her suspicions, she didnât want to violate Lenaâs privacy any further than she already had by showing up unannounced.
Kara started getting nervous that Lena wasnât going to come out, but before her anxiety could spiral any further, her former best friend emerged from the hallway; her gait as she approached the sliding glass door leading to the balcony indicated she was less than pleased with Karaâs impromptu visit. Kara was too distracted to notice Lenaâs aggressive approach; her attention firmly focused on Lenaâs attire. The CEO was clad in the same suit she wore when she confronted Kara in the Fortress earlier that day. Too distracted at the time to give it more than a passing glance, all the air escaped Karaâs lungs now that she was able to get a thorough view. She couldnât help but admire the sharp, formfitting cut of the dark-hued suit, but her focus quickly shifted to the scintillating top that accompanied it. Kara licked her suddenly dry lips as she regarded the lace, floral print mock-neck top, and more importantly, the way it hugged Lenaâs body like a second skin. She looked every bit the powerful, commanding, confident CEO. In Karaâs eyes, she looked like a goddess and, as far as Kara was concerned, she deserved to be worshipped like one.
Karaâs appreciation (appropriate or not, she couldnât decide), was quickly tempered by the sobering thought that not too long ago, she wouldâve been able to gush to Lena about how handsome she looked. Lena, as per usual, would try to take the compliment in stride, but her blushing cheeks and elevated heartbeat would give away how much she appreciated it.
But that was a lifetime ago, or what seemed like one. Until yesterday, Kara hadnât been able to be in the same room as her without Lenaâs resentment, pain, and feelings of betrayal enveloped them both, much less pay her a compliment about how stunning she looked.
Karaâs attention was quickly drawn back to reality as Lena stepped onto the balcony; the CEO was brandishing a very large blaster cannon. The cannon was clearly one of Lenaâs custom jobs as it appeared to be constructed with an amalgam of alien parts.
âI donât have time for any more of your bullshit, Supergirl!â Lenaâs rage was on full display; her adrenaline infused heart thundered loudly. âYou have five seconds to get the hell out of my airspace or I start shooting!â Lena furiously demanded.
So much for the warm welcome. Not that Kara expected one, but thisâŠseemed a bit over the top.
Kara apparently wasnât moving fast enough to comply with Lenaâs command. The CEO activated the cannon and pointed it at Kara. âItâs not Kryptonite and it wonât kill you, but itâs got enough kick to knock you on your perfectly sculpted ass!â
Kara tilted her head to the side, confusion etched on her face from the off-hand comment. She decided to file it away for another day when she saw an orange glow coming from the cannonâs muzzle and Lena cocking her head to sight-in her target.
It was now or never.
âWould have helped me?â Kara yelled out.
âWhat?â Lenaâs position remained unchanged.
âYou said back at the Fortress that you knew at least four different ways to find the trapped Obsidian users, would you have helped me if Iâd asked?â Kara did her best to keep her voice steady, hoping that Lena wouldnât pick up on her anxiety.
Lena seemed taken aback by the question. Her brows furrowed, jaw clenched, and green eyes locked on Kara as she considered the question. Kara remained silent, floating quietly and not making any effort to get closer to the balcony. The quiet stand-off continued for another minute before Kara noticed Lenaâs hands begin shaking from beneath the cannon. Kara could see the internal struggle going on inside Lena based on the conflicted look on the brunetteâs face. Lenaâs breathing intensified and her heartbeat became more rapid. Anyone who didnât know the CEOâs facial tics would say she looked like she was in physical pain, but Kara knew better. She knew Lenaâs logical side was currently warring with her emotions. She also knew that the best thing to do when Lena got into this type of headspace was to shut up and patiently wait for her to reengage.
With a flash of gnashed teeth and a frustrated growl, Lena powered down the cannon and lowered it to her side. Her eyes remained locked on Karaâs, but the tense look on her face softened into a resigned expression. She breathed out a long sigh, shut her eyes, and hesitantly nodded.
Kara let loose a relieved sigh and allowed herself a small grin. She regained Lenaâs attention and motioned towards the balcony. âMay I?â
Lena rolled her eyes and made an overdramatic wave signaling Kara to land. She unceremoniously dropped the laser cannon atop the smooth surface of the railing and turned back to face the slowly descending Kryptonian.
Karaâs boots lightly padded on the balcony as she landed; the hero made sure to allow Lena plenty of personal space. Despite the distance between them, Kara was able to confirm her theory when she first arrived: Lena had indeed been crying; evidenced by her puffy, red eyes.
Lena squared her shoulders and leveled Kara with a glare that fell somewhere between annoyed and homicidal; Kara was hoping it was closer to the former. âSo what is it tonight, Supergirl? Begging for forgiveness or threatening me again?â Kara flinched from the blatant hostility. The scowl on Lenaâs face drove a red-hot poker through Karaâs heart.
âNo, nothing like that.â Kara reached into her belt and produced a flash drive. âI came to bring you this,â she said as she held up the pinky-sized device for Lena to view.
Lena cast a suspicious look towards Kara. âWhat is that?â
Kara contemplated pointing out that it was a flash drive but refrained; Lena was clearly not in a joking mood. âItâs a copy of the database from the Tower. Incident reports, field reports, surveillance footage, research, psych profiles, intelligence reportsâŠbasically everything weâve compiled since the creation of Earth-Prime.â
Lena covered her surprise behind a loud throat clearing. âIntelligence reports on what exactly?â
Kara knew this would be the first thing Lena would focus on and had her response pre-loaded. âObsidian, Andrea, Ben Lockwood, The DEO, Leviathan, Eve Teschmacher, Lex-â
âOf course,â Lena interrupted, practically sneering.
Kara ignored the comment. âAnd you,â she finished, locking eyes with Lena.
Lenaâs mouth gaped open at Karaâs admission but she quickly regained her composure, her expressionless veneer now firmly in place. âWhy are you giving this to me?â
Kara nervously chewed her bottom lip. Her plan really didnât involve a well thought out and rehearsed speech; Kara knew she would have forgotten every line once she faced Lena. Instead, she decided to let her words be guided by a singular directive:
Tell her the truth.
âIâm putting all myâŠour cards on the table so you can have an idea of what weâre up against. I want you to review the information and draw your own conclusionsâŠthenâŠmaybe you can figure out where you fit into all this, instead of me telling you where you should be.â Lena remained silent; her face completely unreadable. Kara fought to mirror Lenaâs stoicism but couldnât hide her slight fidget. âAnd, selfishly, we could really use your help. The team hasnât been the same since youâŠleft.â
âSomething tells me your sister would be less than thrilled if she found out you were giving me this.â
âWho do you think helped me put this together?â Kara said proudly, not even trying to hide her smile.
âYouâll have to excuse me if I donât believe you,â Lena bit back.
Karaâs smile quickly disappeared, replaced by a crestfallen look. âThatâs fair.â She forced herself to meet Lenaâs icy glare head-on. âAnd why should you? All Iâve done is tell you that you should trust me and then shown you the complete opposite with my actions.â
âIs that why youâre giving that to me?â Lena nodded toward the flash drive still in Karaâs hand. âIs that your grand gesture to show your trustworthiness?â
Kara shrugged her shoulders, a sad smile on her face. âIt would be great if you genuinely saw it that way but, no, thereâs no strings attached.â
âSeems a bit risky to trust such sensitive information to a villain.â Lenaâs voice was pure venom.
Kara involuntarily shuttered, a chill running through her spine at Lenaâs brazen contempt. The hero ran a hand through her hair attempting to quell her feelings of shame and embarrassment that threatened to overwhelm her.
Tell her the truth.
Kara huffed out a sigh and placed the flash drive back into her belt. âI think we can both agree that me calling you a villain was one of the stupidest things Iâve ever said.â Kara dared to make eye contact with Lena only to receive a head tilt and raised brow from the CEO. âIf youâre willing to humor me for a minute, Iâd like to explain what happened that night,â Kara said with a hopeful look. Lena remained impassive; Kara took her lack of response as consent to continue. âYouâre probably not going to believe meâŠno, I guarantee you wonât believe me, but earlier that evening I was visited by a fifth dimensional imp who showed me four different timelines where I told you I was Supergirl before Lex did.â Lena scoffed in disbelief, but Kara chose not to acknowledge her outburst. âAll of them were a complete disaster no matter how early in our friendship I told you.â The memories of that night flooded back into her mind, forcing Kara to swallow the lump forming in her throat. âYou ended up either dead or mutilated in three of the four timelines.â Karaâs eyes became glassy. âIt scared the hell out of me, Lena, because even though none of those timelines were real, they reminded me of how vulnerable you are; especially now that youâre working withâŠâ Kara trailed off and took a shaky breath. âIt terrifies me that youâre working with Lex. Iâm so scared that one day heâs going to decide he doesnât need you anymore or he wants payback against you for shooting him and puts a bullet in the back of your head.â Kara began to choke up, her breath coming out in stuttering waves.
Lena watched on, her icy façade slowly melting as Kara endeavored to even out her breathing. Once she was able to compose herself, Karaâs watery blue eyes met with the CEOâs. âI can accept that you donât want me in your life; I hate it, but I can accept it as long as I know youâre happy and thriving. But what I could never acceptâŠcould never live withâŠis a world without you in it.â Karaâs eyes began to glow; her face twisted with barely contained fury. âIf LexâŠif he took you fromâŠif he killed you, I would track him down and tear him apart piece by piece until he begged me to kill himâŠand Rao help anyone who got in my way,â Kara choked out with a growl.
Lenaâs brow furrowed and her mouth fell slightly open as she tried to process Karaâs chilling admission. Karaâs eyes cooled as she slowly composed herself. She took a step towards Lena. Much to her surprise, the CEO made no effort to step back. The two stood just out of armâs length from each other. âSo, when I landed here that night, I was so afraid that I decided to go the tough love route and give you some bullshit ultimatum that I knew was going to fail even before I finished saying it.â Karaâs entire body tensed, her balled up fists dug into her thighs as waves of shame rolled through her body. She took another step towards Lena. âI was so scared and desperate to get you away from him that I stupidly thought threats would be more effective than trying to reason with you.â Kara shook her head in disgust, jaw tightly clenched.
âYou could have just talked to me,â Lena timidly admitted. âI might not have given you the warmest response, but I would have listened.â
Kara could see that Lenaâs features had significantly softened. The hero thought she may have detected a hint of warmth and compassion in those hypnotic green eyes. Kara hesitantly grinned, not completely sure how to react to Lenaâs changed demeanor, but it was short-lived. She was swiftly overcome with guilt; a forlorn look darkened her features.
âThat would have been a kindness I didnâtâŠI donât deserve.â Kara shook her head again, internally chastising herself. With a start, she realized that she was mere feet from Lena. As their eyes met for what seemed like the hundredth time that night, Kara was close enough to see the different shades in each of Lenaâs irises. Kara could see that Lenaâs hardened resolve had dissipated into a hesitant vulnerability.
Tell her the truth.
âLena, I didnât listen to you,â Kara said contritely. âYou were right, what you said when you took Myriad. You told me about all the people you loved that betrayed you, but I didnât listen. You begged me, in ways both said and unsaid, not to violate your trust, but I didnât listen.â Kara could see Lenaâs eyes become glassy with unshed tears, a slight tremble in her lip. Fighting back her own tears, Kara took another shaky breath. âInstead, I listened to my fears and the fears of othersâŠpeople who, at first, couldnât get passed your last name and wouldnât even bother to try and get to know and understand you. I let those fears distract me from what you wanted, what you needed from me. I let those fears convince me that knowing my identity would put you in greater danger, which I know now is just ridiculous. I let those fears stop me from showing you my whole self because they told me you only wanted âKara Danversâ, not âKara Zor-Elâ. Worst of all, I let those fears convince me that youâd hate me, and that Iâd lose you forever.â
Both women had tears streaming down their faces, so completely lost in each otherâs eyes that they didnât bother wiping them away. âI didnât listen to youâŠto my heart, and if it costs me you, I will regret that decision for the rest of my life.â
Kara reflexively extended her hand towards Lena but quickly stopped herself when she realized what she was doing. Lena gave no indication that she saw Karaâs aborted attempt, the CEO simply continued to remain fixated on the heroâs eyes, conflicting emotions playing across her face. Kara shut her eyes and took a deep breath; her tightened eyelids unleashed a waterfall of unshed tears. They stood entranced with each other for an indeterminate amount of time before Kara, clearing her throat, snapped them out of it.
The two backed away from each other a few steps and began haphazardly wiping their tears away. Once her eyes were sufficiently cleared, Kara could see Lenaâs features harden again, though with less intensity than when she first arrived at the CEOâs penthouse.
Kara could see that Lena was clearly debating with herself but before Kara could ask why, Lena held out her hand. âIâll take the drive,â she said with calm certainty.
As she retrieved the flash drive from her belt, Kara fought to keep her enthusiasm contained, managing to limit her reaction to a tight grin.
Lena rolled her eyes and reached out for the proffered drive. As the device changed hands, their fingers brushed together. Karaâs super-hearing missed the flutter of Lenaâs heartbeat, too distracted by her own thundering pulse that threatened to force her heart from her chest. âNo strings?â Lena asked sternly, holding the flash drive at eye level.
âNo strings.â Kara assured her with a smile.
âOkay,â Lena replied with hesitancy in her voice, placing the drive in her suit pocket. âI hope you know this doesnât fix everything.â
Kara ruefully smiled. âI know.â The hero shifted uneasily. âBut maybe this could be a start to repairing thingsâŠrepairing us?â she said with a hopeful look.
Lena leveled Kara with a nervous glance before giving her a curt nod. âUmâŠsoâŠif thatâs all, Iâm going to go to bed. ItâsâŠbeen a long day,â Lena said awkwardly.
âOh, yeah, right. Crazy dayâŠuhâŠIâm sure youâre exhausted. Me too. Todayâs been a real backbreakerâŠyeah, I should probably head home tooâŠget some sleepâŠOh! Maybe dinner first! Yeah, dinner first, then sleep.â Kara rambled through jittery hands, a slight dusting of pink on her cheeks.
Lena shook her head and turned to enter her penthouse, pulling the hair tie from her ponytail as she neared the backdoor.
Kara watched as Lenaâs hair cascaded down her shoulders. She was suddenly struck by a wave of anxiety. Her conversation with Lena had gone better than expected, but Kara had so much more she wanted to say, and she feared she wouldnât get the opportunity. She was afraid that somehow this tentativeâŠwell, whatever it was, would fall apart. She started to panic. Her chest felt like someone was sitting on it, an anxious knot formed in her stomach, and she could feel a lump forming in her throat.
Tell her the truth.
âLena!â She blurted out without thinking.
The CEO was startled by the heroâs outburst and turned to face her, a yearning, drained look on her face.
âLena I lo-â Karaâs entire body felt like it was on fire. Now confronted by the moment she so dearly wanted; she froze. She knew what she wanted to say. She wanted to tell her how much she missed her, how much she wanted to hold her, kiss her, and never let her go.
She wanted to tell Lena that she loved her more than anything in the multiverse.
But now wasnât the time, she knew that deep in her heart. To tell Lena how she really felt about her would be too much, too soon. Their reconciliation was in its infancy, and Kara wasnât going to jeopardize it by dropping a nuclear-sized emotion bomb on her. It wouldnât be fair to either of them.
Tell her the truthâŠwhen itâs time.
âI love your suit. Itâs aâŠI mean you lookâŠreallyâŠâ Kara was blushing so hard her cheeks were burning. ââŠmaroonâs a good color on you,â she finally managed to stammer out.
It was apparent that Lena wasnât expecting the compliment; the blush on her cheeks indicated as much. She averted her eyes from Karaâs gaze and timidly tucked some errant strands of hair behind her ear. Kara couldnât help the satisfied smile that stretched across her lips; thrilled by Lenaâs reaction. For a fleeting moment, it felt like old times, a hopeful reminder that not everything between them was irreparably broken.
Karaâs triumphant moment ended abruptly when Lena caught sight of the heroâs giddiness. Her shyness bled away and was replaced with an air of forced indifference. âActually, itâs burgundy,â she pointed out haughtily.
âOh,â Kara said bashfully; her embarrassment coloring her cheeks once again. âWell, you still look pretty handsome in it,â the hero responded sincerely, a look of reverence on her face.
Disarmed by Karaâs candidness, Lenaâs regal stature quickly deflated. âThank you,â she said sheepishly.
Karaâs smile became impossibly brighter. âGoodnight, Lena.â The hero lifted off from the balcony and leisurely coasted away.
Lena watched as her red cape disappeared into the night, a soft grin on her face. âGoodnight, Kara.â

Hero (Kara character study. Angsty but gets better.)
I can save this world.
Kara looked herself over in the mirror, her chest puffing in silent pride at the symbol that lay across it. I am the last daughter of the House of El, she thought to herself. I am the last daughter of Krypton, and no one will ever forget it.
Her mind drifted to watching her cousinâs feats from her living room. Collapsed bridges, raging floods, villains - human and alien alike - who sought to cause harm. How he stood in the way, the El family crest on his chest, cape snapping in the wind.Â
She couldnât save her world, but she could save this one. She could make herself worthy of the House of El.
I can save this world.
She could still hear the screams from across the city, from the child she couldnât get to on time. The fire had spread so rapidly that the mere minute it took for her to come up with an excuse and run away had cost a child his life. She wanted to scream, she wanted to cry, but there were others in the building she could still save.
She thought of asking Kal how he handled it, the loss of a single precious life that might still have been here had she been just a little better, just a little faster. But maybe he didnât really deal with that - maybe she was just the failure he wasnât. She had failed to be there for him, after all.
Then the news of her fatherâs involvement in Medusa came to light, and Kara stopped knowing how to feel about the sigil on her chest.
I canât save this world.
It was the last conscious thought she had, as Reignâs hand loosened. She remembered starting to fall, but she couldnât remember landing.
She was trapped - trapped in her own mind, away from everyone. Unable to escape. But she wasnât damaged. She was stuck because⊠she was afraid? Because she was a failure. Because Reign represented everything she couldnât be. How could she try to save the world, when destruction was so much easier than creation?
I canât save this world.
What is it the man had said? âTheyâre not like you. Youâre a superhero.â As though her cape made her any less a refugee who came here for safety, a child sent across skies to protect and be protected.
How does one fight a villain that lives in everyoneâs soul, a piece of darkness and fear that turns outward with suspicion and hatred towards those that are different? Even if she was a shining example of the best of her kind, she would simply be discounted. âYouâre one of the good ones,â they would tell her. Because hate was easy when there was fear.
I can save her.
Karaâs chest fluttered in panic as Lena held Myriad in her hand. It had been too easy, how quickly their relationship had recovered from Karaâs own cruelty. She never wanted the other shoe to drop. She hid, she always hid, hiding would always be easier than acknowledging the possibility of loss.
She thought she had lost enough in her life, but as the kryptonite encased her in the last remnant of her home, she could only feel a new type of regret.
I canât save her.
Karaâs fists clenched as she stared down Lena on the balcony. You act like a villain, Iâll treat you like one, she thought to herself, hating herself every moment. She knew the torn woman in front of her was an adversary she had created. But she had tried, Rao, she had tried to do the right thing.
She didnât know how she could live with the string of failure that had followed her ever since she had picked up the cape. But at the same time, she knew there came a point where - whatever she had created - she still needed to do what was right.Â
Even if it meant giving up any hope of being with the woman she loved.
I canât even save myself.
She could still feel the softness of Lenaâs hand in her own when they reconciled. There was still so much they needed to talk about in the aftermath, something else she needed to confess. The bridge was there for them to cross, once it was all over.
But then the only option became to risk her own life. Her soul tore at Lenaâs longing gaze when she left the Fortress, and Kara wondered if they would ever get the chance.
It was a twisted comfort, knowing that Lena cared, even in the midst of their fallout, even as Kara faced her eternity in the Phantom Zone.
They saved me.
Kara broke down sobbing when Alex shoved her under the sunlamp, feeling the painful tingling of her cells remembering how to process sunlight. Everything screamed at her - the thundering sound of the light breeze outside, and choking scent of motor oil from the passing cars, and the hammering of all her friendsâ heartbeats from the Towerâs mainroom.
Her body screamed like she was 13 again, panic and joy overwhelming her, because the pain wasnât tied to the loss like it was all those years ago. It was a second chance, with everyone she loved.
We can save the world.Â
There was this exhilaration to being back, to seeing the blue oceans and red sunrises and green grass. Maybe itâs easy to get carried away, when you can forget what made everything so hard.
Her father was going to save this world from its own destruction. She was going to absorb the sun. It was easy to seek easy solutions for everything, only for it to solve nothing at all.
We can save the world, sometimes.
It felt so odd to smile and cry, as Lena pulled her into her arms. Karaâs mind jumped from seeing her sister so happy with Kelly as they danced, to the words that were missing. The words Kara needed to say to her best friend.
She knew in the night - once they were out of their wedding clothes and in their pajamas, curled up on Lenaâs couch - the words would finally tumble out.
But as Lena stood in front of her, reminding her that the world wasnât on her shoulders alone, Kara took the moment to pause. She thought of her old cape, torn up and folded neatly in her closet at home. The day she put it on, she never thought sheâd need more than feats of strength to save the world.
But how could strength defeat masses manipulated into bigotry? How could strength defeat magic? How could strength defeat the best friend she had betrayed? She wasnât here through strength alone, but through connection, and truth. As Lena reminded her, the only salve against the darkness was in standing together.
We can save each other.
A small smile crossed Karaâs face, as she watched Lena snooze next to her in the morning light, hearing her voice from the day before. âYou canât always be our savior, Kara. You shine your light and inspire others to shine theirs.â She could never save everyone. No one could. But thatâs not what hope was about, as much as cynicism said otherwise.Â
As Kara reached up to brush hair away from Lenaâs face, she remembered the lyrical sound of her family motto falling from Lenaâs lips. With each person who stood next to another, the spark grew. Perhaps they could someday create enough light.
Kara lowered her head, placing her forehead against Lenaâs as she slept. As Kara listened to Lena's peaceful heartbeats and calm breaths, she found herself praying to Rao. Thank you for this spark.

Chapter 5 of the villain Lena AU is posted!

Summary: Kara makes questionable decisions and deals with some strange new feelings. Egos clash when Supergirl and Lena confront each other again.
âââ
Lena was clearly trying to keep her face carefully neutral, but Kara noticed the flash of anger in her eyes at the accusations. âYou presume to know a lot about my personal actions and beliefs, Supergirl,â she said coldly. âHave you ever considered that I donât share all of my familyâs beliefs? I am my own person, you know.âÂ
âThen why donât you act like it?â said Kara bluntly.Â
For a moment, Lena looked as if sheâd been slapped. She blinked rapidly, fists subtly clenching in her pockets, and Kara instinctively braced herself for some sort of attack.Â
However, it never came. Lena seemed to calm herself, taking a deep breath, and finally replied, âI donât need your opinions on my character. What I need is for you to get out of my personal lab.â
âOr what?âÂ
Kara knew she was pushing it now, but she didnât care. She was tired of constantly being told what to do and underestimated at every turn. It might have been a bit childish, but Kara was unwilling to simply turn tail and leave so easily. She felt a stubborn need to be defiant against Lena; to not back down.Â
âAre you trying to provoke a fight with me, Supergirl?â asked Lena, her voice low and dangerous, and her posture shifting from casual to tense and upright. âBecause I promise that wonât end well for you.âÂ
