Macaque be like, "I don't care about Wukong 😒" and then have his main goal in the past to be able to spend the rest of his life on FFM with him, carve a drawing of them together in stone, Fight Celestial Armies with him, and then currently, have his entire motivation be getting revenge on Wukong for killing him, fucking KILL MK (who he admitted that he thinks is a good kid) bcuz Wukong cares about him, make an entire godmann shadow play about their not breakup, refers to Wukong and him as "The Sun and the Moon", refer to himself as Wukong's shadow, Still actually flirts with him has playful banter with him when they're fighting, is given the option to run after the fight with LBD but comes back (toootally not bcuz Wukong is in trouble), Works with Wukong and the Monkie Kids to LBD, Doesn't even HESISTATE to go into the memory scroll bchz it means it'll help Wukong, Is still so clearly hurt by Wukong being mad at him, Reach his hand out to the memory of Wukong offering him a peach with a sad look on his face, Smile reassuringly at Wukong when Wukong looked at him for comfort, have Peng admit that there's nothing Wukong could do that would break Macaque's hold over him, proceed to crash a beach party he wasn't invited to just so he could sit by and spend time with Wukong, Literally call Wukong CUTE in the exact same scene, Proceeds to live on the same mountain as Wukong AND sleep on the SAME GODDAMN tree he and Wukong sat at when they were still friends, Instinctively run to Wukong yelling "Stop!" when the circlet was being put on him, Still look back at Wukong to see if he's got his back when fighting the Celestial Guards, Lift his head to look at Wukong when Wukong indirectly said that he still trusts him, Sacrifice himself for Wukong, Save Wukong from his past memories (AGAIN), Is overall just always rushing to help Wukong in general this season, and want to have his last moments alive to be holding Wukong's hand.

3am drawings for the soul because waking up at 7am means nothing to me

Bird explanations below, because I actually had to do research this time around and im actually proud of this

Wukong: American Kestrel

Originally, I wanted to do birds native to China, but the American Kestrel kind of had more symbolize that I could resonate within Wukong, mainly because this is the smallest falcon within America, and it had more vibrant colors that I could play with. Being small, I wanted to make sure Wukong wasn't too big even with bird wings, because he doesn't need that kind of power.

Macaque: Eurasian Eagle-Owl

Macaque was going to be an owl regardless, silent and nocturnal just like the shadows. I chose a horned owl, because I think it would be cute if they could act as false ears for Mac, or just be little things for design purposes. Either way, the owl was something I was dead set on for Macaque.

(Headcanon) After Macaque’s passing, Wukong paints his portraits, but with each one, he remembers him a little less, until he can’t remember him at all.

Well I just found the saddest screenshot of season 5....

I never noticed Macaque on the left.

He's literally surrounded by both his Monkey Mentors in his absolute worst moment.

As much as they fight, they come together for him. I don't care that Mk is in his 20s; compared to Macaque and Wukong, and in their eyes, he's a baby monkey who's traumatized beyond belief.

Like going into a parent's room after a nightmare.
