I'm really trying to rOlEPLaY with this origin run. Meaning I'm trying to do things I think Shadowheart would do. It's based on MY reading of her character.

Anyway, I'm obviously not going to touch or tweak any of her stats or cantrips and whatnot. Shame.

This is her guardian BTW. ........ yeah.

Shadowheart's whole team has been taken down by Giths. So OBVIOUSLY she'll avoid them like the plague.

Her only objective is to bring the artefact to Baldur's Gate. Whatever is happening to the people down the road is not her concern. Being a sharran, I doubt she'd prefer to have company or assistance either. As far as she's concerned, she's going from point A to point B. She'll avoid fights at all costs. She's not going to go eXPloRinG or sightseeing. If the rations get too low she might go scavenging or shopping.

Is this going to be a solo run, then???

I’m not a hardcore gamer, but I do enjoy playing video games. Unfortunately, I spent most of my formative years playing Nintendo and Sega games, and anything more complicated has always spooked me. It’s never too late to face your fear of video games that are more complicated than the original Mario, and I am proud to say I’ve mastered far more complex games, thanks to my use of the Lenovo Legion Go!

I've seen Framework recommended a lot in the notes of this post, but this is the first one I've actually found where the blogger actually OWNS one (or presumably lives with someone who owns).

Sure it's a nifty-looking tech startup, but the actual details seem uninspired.

Don't get me wrong, they put a big emphasis on sustainability and repairaability, and that's great! But when it comes to longevity/upgradability, I notice three things:

There's still ultimately only a couple form factors for the laptop body itself. None of them include anything interesting like a card reader, let alone an optical drive.

All the "revolutionary" upgradeable internals like motherboard and GPU, as well as replaceable externals like keyboard and numpad, can only be replaced with Framework's own version of that component; it's not compatible with any off-the-shelf GPU, the way a desktop PC would be. Now, this is not unusual for name-brand laptops! But unlike the name-brands, there's no guarantee this little Framework company will still exist in 5 years, let alone 10.

The big selling point, swappable external ports, are literally just low-profile USB-C adapters. That's it.

Also, it's a pet peeve of mine when folks recommend Linux to basic users. Sorry, it's not comparable. I'm an experienced power user, and I still find Linux unnecessarily confusing. It's not "building your own seat with a nifty manual," it's

"build a seat with 30 different manuals, half of them for different flavors of your seat than you have, and all of them written with the assumption that you have an aerospace engineering degree. Did you make your seat? Great! Wait, there's no cupholder. You can install the recommended one, but it actually doesn't fit with your armrest because it hasn't been update in 15 years. Ok, how about a headrest? Nope, headrests are only made for Windows and Mac. Maybe you can emulate a headrest in a virtual Windows seat and hope it works? (Then why didn't you buy a cheap Windows seat to begin with?) Whatever, let's just make your seat recline. Step 1: Bash in the cockpit door and gain root access to the entire plane,"

You know what, fuck it, I don't *want* some frivolous, artisanal, lighter-than-air computer with no customizability, no upgradeability, no reparability, no ports, and a lifetime of *maybe* 3 years if you're lucky. I want a fucking great BEAST of a computer that's designed to last a minimum of 50 years, with ports up the wazoo and optional drives for every kind of media! I want modular components that you can drop in a bog for a year, dry them off, and have them still work fine! I want them to make a noise like "ker-chunk!" when you slide them into place! I want a switch that you pull to turn it on! And I don't want software that constantly forces you to get a pointless, cosmetic "upgrade" every few months either! I want durability! I want longevity! I want satisfying haptics! I want Silicon Valley to go fuck itself!

WELL THAT ESCALATED QUICKLY...

Shadowheart went into the grove to find a cure for the damned tadpole, not to end up killing the very healer that could have cured her!!!

Okay, let's step back a little bit...

After the dust settled, shadowheart went to scavenge all she could from the fallen warriors- from both sides. No point in wasting this precious loot.

Looks like the grove isn't as peaceful a place as it seemed. Oh well, what matters is to find a healer. But first, time for some shopping!

The vendors were friendly enough. Stocked up with healing potions and upgraded some gear. Chatted with an old lady and she gave me some food. Another old lady fussed over Shadowheart and gave her a healing potion. She seemed a bit strange though.

Although she kept telling herself not to meddle in affairs that didn't concern her, she had to get involved when the druids planned to kill a child for theft.

Nature always fascinated her. And this place looked every bit as beautiful as she heard. But isn't this place supposed to be peaceful? Yet there is talk about eviction, isolation and murder.

She didn't (CHA: 8) possess a silver tongue. And she sure didn't plan to break the kid out by force. Yet it was important for her to see this through. Just because nobody came to her rescue back in the day doesn't mean she would grow up to do the same..............

After a scare from this giant wolf and a disastrous detect thoughts roll, she finally convinced the head druid to back off. The little thief lived to tell the tale.

But now no more meddling in affairs that don't concern her! The flaring pain on her wrist was reminder enough.

Yet when she finally went to Netty the healer, things turned for the worst.

It seemed to be a good thing that Netty recognized the thing that was lodged in her head as a mind-flayer tadpole. Shadowheart thought telling her extraordinary tales like waking up on an actual mind-flayer ship or meeting an actual gith or having telepathic powers with other infected people would just spook her. Maybe that was the wrong move? Or maybe she was already too afraid? Because netty just straight up lied to her and stabbed Shadowheart with a deadly tree bark! What even!! Good thing Shady had the presence of mind to purchase some potions and antidotes from her beforehand because without them she would have died then and there! But Netty wouldn't let up! She then demanded Shadowheart promise to commit suicide when the tadpole starts to overpower her! The nerve! Of course, she refused. And Netty initiated combat to kill her herself!!!!!

Fighting a wild-shaping druid was t o u g h. The only saving grace was the potion of hill giant strength Shadowheart bought. After it was all over, Shadowheart robbed the place of valuables and hightailed out of the grove, promising herself never to return.

So that's how her first day went. So much for being a discreet agent of Shar. The healer refused to help. Their actual head druid Halsin is missing and is possibly dead by the goblins. Raiding the goblin camp to find him is out of the question. Shadowheart's hope has quickly dwindled.

Desperation is not far off when hopelessness sets in. She hasn't transformed yet, but perhaps she only has hours left?

..........................................Could the gith help? They are the natural enemies of the mind flayers after all. Perhaps a reliable healer was staring her right in the face from the beginning?

But first. Time to turn in for the night. Hopefully, the coming days will be less eventful than this one. Zzzzzz...
