A really great (and honestly spot on, lol) old take from @rycbarmerlin over here, but now looking back with more information about the situation, I actually think there's maybe even more to add to it about John and the line "We can live on the outside or we can live in America", 'cause,,,
The thing is, for a long time John had basically "live[d] on the outside" of society, either refusing or being unable at times to form almost any lasting connections/relationships of any kind with people around him and sticking mainly to the "spooky", dark magic, hidden corner of the world; an outsider of the "normal world", not willing to really let himself in.
When he met Dez, however, not only did he finally let himself take a bigger part in this world for once, with him allowing himself to be in love and in a committed long-term relationship and even going as far as them getting a place to live together, but it is because of this relationship with Dez that John, this british man, was now not only doing more "living" that his usual but was actually fully "liv[ing] in America", like the song hinted. In New Orleans, Lousiana, to be exact.
Even more so, this line actually also manage to tell us ahead of time more who the main players in the situation were. We, of course, already knew John, who, as I explained earlier, was most likely represented by the part of the line that is "[to live] on the outside the world", but the other part of the line, [to live] in America" not only hinted at that change to his life but also lowkey introduced us to Dez, who we were yet to fully know at the time, and told who he was as a person, at least from John's way of looking at it.
From everything we got to learn about Dez, he is a normal man from New Orleans, with deep family ties to the city through the history of his family (mostly noted, of course, when we met his grandmother in 4×07). Yes, he has ties to the magical world through his grandmother and the medalion that he wears around his neck, which we learn had been in his family for generations, but unlike John, his life doesn't revolve around that world, but rather he is a chef at a local dinner, living a normal life as far as we know of. He is, quite simply, "[a man] liv[ing] in America", unlike John, the already-established "outsider".
Additionaly, countinuing what @rycbarmerlin said in her post, the 'or' part in the line ("We can live on the outside or we can live in America") holds some level of significance too, as it is because of it that the line not only hinted at both who Dez is as a person and the change that he'd brought to John's life but also at what we now know ultimately led to the end of their relationship.
As we only later learned, they entered into a relationship and John tried to live more like a regular man, be more in the "normal" (Dez's) world, and for a while everything was going fine, until, of course, Neron showed up, a demon from John's dark-magic life / past who even holds the deed to his soul. John told us that he begged Dez to run, because he knew that Neron would use Dez against him, and that is exactly what ended up happening when Dez didn't, instead going behind John's back and making a deal to protect him which caused that in order for John to send Neron to hell, he had to send Dez down with him too. In this moment, like @rycbarmerlin predicated so well, John had to make a hard choice- he could either get rid of this demon, a duty that comes from his life "on the outside" and him being the master of the dark arts that he is, or choose to do nothing to Neron in order to keep Dez and their new life together "liv[ing] in America" safe. This whole situation was a way of showing that, despite what he'd finally let himself hope for, those two lifestyles simply cannot go together without someone getting hurt. Like the song told us, all those episode before we actually learned what happened with them, it was a matter of "or". He had to choose.
Honestly, well done Legends with this amazing show of forshadowing through snippets of song in this episode, I'm impressed.
Legends 4x05 Music
So I was thinking about the ending of 4x05 (‘Tagumo Attacks!!!’) but more particularly, the song.
The song is called “Girl” By Timecop1983 feat. Seawaves and not only is it an atmospheric song, it could also have plot prevalence. I wanted to pay particular interest to the lines they used and who they used these lines for - this post is largely about Constantine.
But first, Ray/Nora: “You can lay on the long side wherever you’ll be someone. Staring out at the bayside if you need me just throw your gun.”
Of course, this scene is absolutely heartbreaking. This is infused by the longing created in these lyrics, “Wherever you’ll be someone” almost refering directly to Ray giving Nora a second chance, wanting her to decide who she wants to be. “If you need me just throw your gun.” Also shows how their relationship has been marked by action and conflict, these lines perfectly summing up the position Nora and Ray’s relationship is at.
This is leading somewhere, don’t worry!
So the perfection of these lines got me thinking when Constantine’s scene comes up next: “Going out with a headstart, kissing you in the pouring rain. We can live on the outside. Or we can live in America.”
First of all, Matt Ryan’s acting is beautiful here as he expresses many micro-emotions all at once. There’s a look of guilt, regret, longing and wistfulness. I think this is definitely refering back to the man who keeps re-appearing who is more than likely to be the ex-boyfriend that the producers have spoken about. “Kissing you in the pouring rain” is a wonderfully clichéd and romantic image that we certainly would not associate with John’s current character and suggests a real intimacy and vulnerability (*cue Constantine welling up and even looking like he’s thinking back on the relationship.) They could have chosen this line for the Nora/Ray scene but they didn’t.
“We can live on the outside or we can live in America.” This suggests a freedom and choice, with choice not being often seen in John’s life. Coupled with Constantine’s expressions and the tone of the song, this association feels like a very deliberate choice - along with the Ray/Nora section.
I’m thinking that those lyrics are suggesting Constantine had quite a serious relationship with whoever that man was and perhaps a part of John is still in love with him?
These are just questions now but I just really feel like that song could be really insightful…
Have I just spoken complete double-deutsch?

Legends of Tomorrow not getting a renewal is my villain origin story. Anyway... some warmup doodles of Spooner from today and yesterday!
little bonus: They have a lot in common actually. (I have a type)

The Beginning of the End.
This is it.
The final season of Superman & Lois is not only the end of the show, but the end of the Arrowverse.
Arrow.
The Flash.
Legends of Tomorrow.
Supergirl.
Black Lightning.
Batwoman.
Even Constantine.
This is the last of it.
This started in 2012. That was 12 years ago. I started this Tumblr page so I could rave about Arrow and meet people who loved the show as much as I did and since then the ‘verse has just exploded into all of these amazing shows with crossovers and comic canon events and multiverses and animated series and insane cameos and ships that win awards!
Watching Arrow and then getting into the subsequent spinoffs and other shows has changed my life. As I watch the final season of the final show, I remember where this all started. And how far it’s come.

Another reason to love ‘Wynonna Earp’
Pop culture references.
Especially that of queer media and art/entertainment. This is just one episode and we’ve had Buffy, Legends Of Tomorrow, Orphan Black and Xena references in it. In fact there was a Xena reference in the last episode too when Nedley called Wynonna ‘Warrior Princess’.
It appears there are more Xena references in this show than any other kind of references. Andras is a big fan.
It’s no wonder Xenites feel most at home here.
Same kind of quirky campy tone.
Badass female protagonists.
Excellent balance of drama and comedy.
A main WLW epic romance/love story.
(If interpreted that way)
And crazy chaotic fantasy shenanigans where the cast don’t take themselves too seriously and just have fun coming up with wacky, over-the-top improvisations.
Xena is THAT show. And so is ‘Wynonna Earp’.
The influence is very strong and very prominent.

the hardest part about having access to Netflix in your 2010s childhood is having to convince your friends to watch your favorite shitty CW show that you found during one of your formative years

hi!! making a post to talk about requests again and get specific about who I write for, what I’m comfy writing, etc.
nsfw or sfw is fine!! gonna deal with requests on a case by case basis and if something makes me uncomfy I just won’t respond. don’t take it personally, I just know I wouldn’t give your prompt justice bc it’s not something I’m into :)
for now I only write x reader, not character x character. I am more than happy to do multiple characters x reader tho!! and I’m fine with platonic, romantic, or family relationships :)
unless specified in the request I’m going to write the reader as female, just because I’m writing kinda from my own perspective? I don’t feel comfortable writing male reader because that’s not me and I wouldn’t do it accurately!! gender neutral/non-binary reader is completely fine though, it may not be perfectly accurate but I will do my absolute best and if I write anything wrong I’m open to corrections :)
now for the fandoms I write for!!
-once upon a time
-legends of tomorrow (may do more arrowverse depending on the request!)
-kaleidoscope
-succession
-severance
-schitts creek
-friends
-bridgerton/queen charlotte
-reign
-merlin
-the vampire diaries
-the originals
-outer banks
-acotar
-harry potter
-manifest
if you have any other shows/movies/books you’d like to see on this list let me know and if I’ve seen it I’ll add it!!

nothing like being a felicity smoak enjoyer in the arrowverse days (she was gen one of my favourites in arrow lmao) and having to deal w the overall misogyny and negative attitudes towards her character for simply being human and existing most of the time.
