Jae Ha must navigate a perilous path where loyalty, love, and justice collide.
The Best Things About This Drama:
Ji Chang Wook
The fight choreography
The soundtrack
I'll give it a 3/5. The fight choreography was freaking amazing, and paired with the soundtrack is was EPIC. The plot was heavy with lots of subterfuge that you really had to pay attention to, but everyone did such an amazing job with their characters that you never knew who you were supposed to love or hate.

The King: Eternal monarch
Genre: fantasy, romance
Episodes: 16
Starring: Lee Min-Ho, Woo Do-Hwan, Kim Go-Eun, Kim Kyung-Nam, Lee Jung-Jin
Synopsis: In 1994, the king of Kingdom of Corea is murdered by his brother Lee Lim, who seeks to possess a legendary flute that holds supernatural powers. King's 8 years old son (prince Lee Gon) tries to stop him and the flute is cut unto two pieces. Small prince in saved by a mysterious figure and Lee Lim slips away only with half of the broken flute. 25 years later, king Lee Gon is still haunted by what happened when he was a child and the mystery behind the police badge left by his savior. The police badge he held was issued on November 11, 2019 for Lieutenant Jeong Tae-Eul. Lee Gon discoveres the magical powers of the flute and travels to parallel world where he finally meets detective Jeong Tae-Eul.
Positives: I was little bit sceptical at the begining, it was kind of cheezy, rushed, the chemistry between the main romantic duo did not worked for me and I was confused by many scenes that seemingly did not conect with the plot. But it was jus a build up and in the midle of the series the story was a rolley coaster. I was surprised how the writers are able to manage all the time jumps, parallel worlds, all the side plots and characters. The cast was great, the main characters were great, but I would like to highlight Woo Do-Hwan and his dual role, because that was was a masterpiece. Also point's for the charismatic villain.
Negatives: It has slower start, and the plot with timetravelling and doppelgangers can be confusing. I would also appreciate more screentime for the antagonist, he was great, but I think he had much bigger potential.
Conclusion: It was really a fun drama. It has everything from funny momets to really sad scenes where I really cryied (Kang Sin-Jae, I am looking at you). The theme of parallel worlds is not original, but it's still interesting and I really liked how this trope was used in the story. At the beginning, I wasn't a big fan of Lee Min-Ho, but when the plot started to progress, he really showed some acting skills. Also, he is tall and handsome and he really looks very regal. They probably couldn't pick better actor for a king.
Action: 6/10 Romance: 8/10 Intriques: 8/10 Blood: 7/10 Whump: 7/10 Friendship: 8/10 Emotions: 8/10 Humor: 5/10

The King: Eternal Monarch - Episode 7
Tumblr media
One thing I can't blame this drama for is that the female lead isn't dumb. Her relationship to the main lead is totally weird and makes no sense to me, but still. She's somewhat smart and doesn't get on my nerves. As for Lee Gon... Well the actor's Lee Minho so unfortunately, he doesn't have a high chance of convincing me. Anyways. Let's try and be a little more positive. After all, the concept of the drama is original. And they went for big names for it, must not be easy to have Lee Minho on your casting.
Seriously, this drama is so hard to summarize. The jumps between the scenes are just so frequent, I have no idea what's important what's not... Anyways, Tae Eul's team is now working on a murder case. It was too early in the morning for such gruesome images to me. I'm pretty sensitive, you know. Anyways, for now, the suspect is the victim's boyfriend. But to me, the roommate seems a little suspicious, even more so now that Lee Rim was at that convenience store that is her alibi for the crime. There's something fishy here.
Tae Eul talks about parallel universes to Nari and wonders what she would do if she met someone who looked exactly like her. Nari says she'd kill that person because one of them is bound to die anyways, since there can't be two of the same things to keep balance.
Lee Gon escapes the palace again but is intercepted in the forest by Jo Young. He was actually anticipating it, so he prepared everything to bring him along with him to the other world. There he'll prove that Tae Eul and Luna are two different people, just sharing the same face. So he takes him to Tae Eul's place. She scolds him for taking that risk when Eun sup looks exactly the same. He argues that he wouldn't get caught that easily. And then just like that, they get caught. Right away. I forgot how good that guy's acting is. He's doing such a great job seriously. Things almost escalate to death, but Tae Eul deals with the crisis.
They go on a wannabe date and then she tells him about the recording she has. So he shows her the death certificate of his presumed uncle. They conclude that he's been living in this world ever since, since the body of that autopsy wasn't his. Tae Eul wants to know if she really doesn't exist in his world, but his silence tells that she does, even though he doesn't answer.
Lee Gon orders Jo Young to remain in the other world to find Lee Rim and kill him on sight, so they can protect both their place in their own world.
The forensic team of the kingdom of Corea found a match for Tae Eul's finger prints, but that person had been in prison for a long time and is about to be released. The Prime Minister also gets that information. So goes to meet with her when she gets out of prison.
And that is all. I'm not going to comment on the previews of the next episodes, it's getting me so confused. At least, the plot is somewhat interesting. The mystery part. Not the romance. Even though it sounds weird because I do watch a lot of romance dramas, I'm not really into romance anymore haha. I'm more interested in all the rest of the story.

The King: Eternal Monarch - Episode 6
Tumblr media
I’m super tired, but there were some bugs in my hotel room, so I had to switch and now I can’t really seem to fall asleep anymore. I still have two episodes downloaded for my layover, but Netflix doesn’t want to cooperate anymore tonight… So might as well go for something else on the list… I’m really not thrilled about this one since I sincerely dislike the main actor but oh well. I started it, now I must finish it. And it’s about time. I don’t remember any of the names of the characters, this review might be a little messy.
So Lee Gon came to get Tae Eul in Seoul. Of course, in a private helicopter. Of course that the Prime Minister hears of its arrival. She doesn’t manage to get any information on Tae Eul, but she’s quite upset about the meeting. Now the king’s cooking for his girl like a pro chef. Cause head lady Noh showed him, since it’s the only food he can eat without having it tasted. He talks about his past. She says she needs her ID and to go home. He doesn’t want to let her go and will keep her in his world. He’s already a shitty person ugh. He still shows her. I forgot that it was the one he held onto since he was a child. Anyways. He only sends her back because the national security council has been called on by the Prime Minister.
Everything is happening all around and keeps skipping from one scene to another and I find it very hard to summarize the action without going in too much details. So I'm sorry if this recap seems a little scattered, I think I will need some more time also to get a little more into this story (especially since I wasn't so thrilled with it to begin with).
So basically, what's happening is that some Japanese military ships are about to enter Corea's water. So the Prime Minister doesn't want to stay idle about it. Lee Gon somewhat kind of agrees and says it's time for war. So he puts on his uniform and promises to come back to Tae Eul. She goes back home, with the ID from 25 years ago, because someone took the one from Head court lady Noh and they can't confirm who could have done that.
So, Lee Gon goes on his ship to defend the Kingdom of Corea's waters. The Japanese are like good, they won't attack since the king's there. Lee Gon is more in the mood "they dare come into my territory? Let's shoot some missiles at them so they have a fair warning." So far, it seems to work, because that means that they are reading to go at war if Japan was trying to push further in. Anyways, Japan backs up and it helps the Prime Minister to gain popularity. But she's upset because China wants to speak with the court about the visas instead of with her. She's never happy that lady.
Tae Eul is still waiting for Lee Gon to come back, but she has no news. She's listening to some tape and discovers something shocking to her. But I can't remember why it is so, because I was too lazy to go over my older reviews of this drama. Something about Lee Gon's grandfather or something. I don't know.
Lee Gon learns that there was something weird about the dead body of his uncle. It showed signs of a natal disease that he didn't have. So they don't know why it's like this. Because it's the one from the other world, but oh well. Lee Gon guesses that his uncle isn't dead and that he's going to get the other half of the magic ancestral stick.
I forgot that this drama is basically an everlasting add for the alley. Now I really want to get a bubble tea.
When Tae Eul sees Lee Gon in front of her home when she gets back, she runs towards him to embrace him. He thinks he's a danger for her. To be honest, I'm like... they've only known each other for 6 episodes. It's even too early for holding hands by accident, let alone purposely hug each other. I've never seen a drama rush the love story so fast. It loses all the best part which is reaching the end of the drama and being looking for that first kiss, that shouldn't be satisfying, but actually is. I don't know. They forgot to follow the recipe and instead of a cake, I'm being served pancake. Please, I need more fluffiness.
And that will be all for episode 6. Thanks for tuning in!
