Assorted Eddie Coming to the Hendersons for Thanksgiving Thoughts
Tumblr media
A/N: It's been a while since I wrote about these two. I've missed them. If you guys want to see more, my inbox is always open. Also we're setting this sometime post series where everything is fine, don't worry about it.
Okay, so first things first, holidays are always a bit tricky for Lucy and her family
In my version of things, her and Dustin's father died and in order to be close to her family that's what prompted Claudia to move them to Hawkins
The Hendersons are their dad's family so while they're still considered family, it can be hard because the absence of her father is felt by everyone
But they always put out a nice spread and they have *thoughts* about Lucy bringing Eddie with her to Thanksgiving
Eddie is absolutely sweating bullets the entire ride there
He's never done the whole meeting the parents thing, let alone meeting the whole family
Yes, Claudia accepted him almost immidiately, but he knows for a fact Lucy's grandparents (on Claudia's side) don't like him and now he's going to be facing down aunts and uncles and cousins and another set of grandparents
Lucy is nothing be reassuring the entire time, but it does little to help his nerves since Lucy has a habit of assuming everyone is like her and willing to give him the benefit of the doubt (they're not)
It is very easy for him to get overwhelmed upon arrival; the Henderson are loud and there are a lot of them
Lucy did her best to give him the run down, but frankly there are only so many names he can be expected to memorize
He decides to hide himself away in the kitchen for a while since 1) that's there Lucy is helping all her grandma, aunts and female cousins cook, 2) he cannot even pretend to know anything about football and 3) that is where the food is
This actually works to his benefit since he's quickly put to work chopping and the fact he's willing to help without grumbling endears him
I'm convinced Eddie can be an absolute hit with grandmas when given the chance; Wayne taught him at least some manners, he's very adaptable to an audience, and he eats enthusiastically
Honestly Eddie can turn on the charm if he wants to and he is laying it on thick to the point some of Lucy's female cousins might be curling their hair a bit
However, he can't stay in there forever, and eventually he has to face the male cousins and uncles
(Yes there is a clear division of labor based on gender norms, this is the midwest in the 80s/early 90s)
Dustin is one of the youngest of the whole family and he's used that position to try to hype up the younger cousins about Eddie so they're more inclined to think he's cool
He pulls Eddie outside and while neither of them know what they're doing in terms of sports; Eddie is absolutely willing to play with the younger kids which prompts some of them to question how he's Lucy's boyfriend of all people
The older cousins are a bit more catious; Lucy lands in the middle in terms of age so they're all not sold on the guy with long hair and tatoos
Uncles are also divided as they feel the need to put on the dad routine since Lucy's father isn't there to do the job
I think what might start to win them over is hearing that Eddie does know cars and has a job to fall back on besides "rockstar"
Eddie also doesn't do the macho man thing and does not hide how much he cares about Lucy, and Dustin too
The only thing that would get tongues clucking if is Lucy and Eddie shared a room since they live together
Claudia would do her best to smooth things over, but while the Henderson's aren't necessarily religous there are certain, let's just say expectations
Overall though, Eddie is able to survive relatively unscathed with at least a sense that he'll be welcomed back next year

the winner takes it all (the loser has to fall)
buddie | T | 4k | absolute shenanigans Buck and Lucy compete to see who's the better kisser. Eddie somehow finds himself the judge.
The thing is, Eddie likes Lucy.
It’s not surprising. Eddie might not necessarily let anyone close easy, but, when he does, he forms strong bonds. And he’s fine with causal friendships, good at working relationships. He’s not known for disliking people.
(That anyone who had seen him interact with Taylor would disagree is an outlier, and he feels justified in it. And he thinks, given the context, that the tone he took when he spoke about Abby can be forgiven. Also, there’s no such thing as mind-reading, so no one can know the less than fair thoughts he’s had about Ali. So, yeah, anyway–)
Eddie’s good at getting on with people, better at it still in the context of 118 gatherings, surrounded by his favorite people. And he likes Lucy.
She’s good at her job, a great firefighter; she’s funny, especially when her and Ravi are paired up, bouncing off one another; she’s excellent company, has kept up a stream of entertaining conversation this evening. Even if it has been punctuated by whatever the next game in this strange competition her and Buck seem to have going is.
Eddie likes Lucy. He does.
It’s just, that’s hard for him to remember, to maintain, when Buck’s next proposed superiority to her is: “Well, I’m a better kisser.”
Eddie’s not sure how this got started, thinks he missed the inciting incident when he was at the bar getting drinks. Unless this is merely a continuation of the various duels they’ve done at work. It’s been established that Buck can take the pole faster, but Lucy can get into her gear in a time that challenges even Chim’s. That Buck can polish the rims on the engine like no one else, but Lucy can restock supplies like each drawer becomes Mary Poppins’ bag in her hands. That Buck makes better eggs, but Lucy’s sandwiches are superior.
Lucy’s been a firefighter for ten years, so it’s not a surprise that she’s got Buck beat on number of five-alarm fires extinguished, rope rescues completed, and sexcapades-gone-wrong responded to. It’s actually worrying that Buck has her beat on injuries when he’s been in the job for barely more than half the time she has.
Tonight, at their usual karaoke bar, all of their bouts have been silly fun — who can build the tallest tower of beer mats (Lucy), who can eat the most peanuts in 30 seconds (Buck), who can best flirt their way to a free drink from the bartender (Lucy) — none of the results making a sick sensation settle in Eddie’s gut like it did when Buck was ticking off near-death — and actual death — experiences on his fingers, blowing past Lucy’s tally.
It’s not exactly the same, but he feels a bit of that nausea creep in now, Buck turned away from him in the booth, head and shoulders twisted around to look at Lucy on his left, as she raises a skeptical brow.

so this post floated the idea of a Lucy/Eddie romance and I really like it. I wouldn't be too mad if Eddie didn't end the series with a love interest, but depending on how long they go, he's going to get another one eventually, and I think Lucy could be a really good candidate.
Eddie's previous LIs have had the same problems as Buck's where they're siloed off into their own little story and don't really have any connection to the greater plot. And like Tommy, Lucy solves those problems, being a character both the audience and 118 already know, and a fellow first responder who can show up occasionally without needing specific time carved out for her. It even works better with her being at the same station Tommy's at, because then she can be reintroduced next season by either showing up at an emergency with Tommy or being invited to a group hangout with him.
We don't know if Lucy and Eddie, or Arielle and Ryan have any chemistry because they've never really had a scene together, but I do think their characters could be really good together. While we don't know much about Lucy, she doesn't seem very naturally maternal, which could be great both as a way to show that if she and Eddie date it has nothing to do with Chris, and as a storyline we haven't seen yet of Eddie's gf having to adjust to him being a single dad. I also think that her personality could be really good for Eddie. She's loud, unashamed of herself, and goes after what she wants, and I think she could really challenge Eddie and vice versa.
If they do go this route, here's what I would do:
Let's assume that by the end of this season, Eddie has at least broken up with both Kim and Marisol. He may not be out of the woods yet, but he is for all intents and purposes, single. Lucy is reintroduced close to the beginning of the season, maybe as another first responder in the Big Emergency. Eddie, still feeling isolated, runs into her and the two do not hit it off. I mean he is being insufferable (as he tends to be when he's repressed) and she is just not dealing with his shit.
Eddie eventually starts healing, and Buck thinks he's good enough to start going out again (not on dates, just out of the house), so he and Tommy take Eddie out for drinks, and Tommy, not knowing that Lucy and Eddie don't get along, brings her so Eddie won't feel like a third wheel. Eddie and Lucy resume their not-so-friendly banter, but because they're out with Buck and Tommy (aka perpetual heart eyes times two) they end up gravitating towards each other anyway, and end the night something like friends. This would be around the mid-season finale, maybe episode 7ish (assuming s8 is 18 eps).
The rest of the season they get closer and closer, and they end the season as good friends who can rely on each other and will hang out together without the pretext of hanging out with bucktommy or the other 118ers, but nothing romantic yet. Then in s9, something happens that acts as a catalyst for Eddie and Lucy, and they kiss or hookup or something and start dating. I do think they should be less Ross and Rachel and more Monica and Chandler. As in, not really pining, just they were friends until they weren't.
anyway, just some ideas. I do realize there is absolutely no reason to expect this, but I saw they idea and it just kind of unfolded in my brain.

The Photo Album
Tumblr media
Eddie Munson x OC, Minor Angst, Heavy Fluff
Summary: Eddie and Lucy are helping Wayne move only for Lucy to find an old album.
Inspired by this post
A/N: This was written on my phone in a frenzy at work. I don’t control when the inspiration strikes. So apologies for any spelling errors/typos, yada yada we die like men.
Word Count: 932
“Mr. Munson, what’s this?”
It was such an innocent question, Eddie didn’t even bother to look up to see what exactly Lucy was talking about.
The pair of them had come over to help Wayne unpack the boxes Hawkin’s lab had been able to salvage from the trailer. The lab had the good graces to help in the relocation process making the moving of a few boxes feel trivial compared to the rest.
He vaguely heard his uncle move towards the front room and a low chuckle follow.
“I was worried about this one,” Wayne answered. “That’s Eddie when he was around three.”
Eddie’s back straightened and in the next moment he had jumped to his feet and sprinted to the living room.
His worst fears were confined as Lucy had made herself comfortable on the couch holding a familiar photo album in her lap with Wayne sitting right next to her.
“We don’t need to look at those,” Eddie croaked, already feeling his ears beginning to burn.
“But you’re so cute!” she exclaimed.
Were to anybody else Eddie would have taken the comment as sarcastic or at least teasing, but he knew Lucy could only mean it in the most sincere way possible.
The blush was now making its way down his neck.
She continued to look at the photos, her eyes soft and her lips curved into doting smile.
“What about this one?” she asked, turning to Wayne.
“Christmas ‘72,” Wayne explained. “Nearly drove me and Joan crazy with that thing, but he loved it.”
Eddie didn’t need to look over the couch to know what photo they were talking about. That was the Christmas Wayne had gotten him a toy guitar. It could hardly make any kind of music, but he had loved that thing. It also happened to be one of the Christmases Al had been absent meaning he and his mother could enjoy it in relative peace.
He felt his stomach lurch a little as it always did when he caught a glimpse of her in one of the photos. Wayne said he looked like her and while he was grateful to know he and Al had little to nothing in common he wasn’t sure being compared to his mother was much better.
His eyes turned to Lucy.
She was still smiling, each photo only seeming to bring her more joy like she was being let in on a secret. He supposed she was. That unpleasant twisting in his gut loosened at the thought replaced with something warm and a little buzzing.
He took a seat on the other side glancing down at the album.
“Shit you kept that one?” Eddie said, staring in horror at his four year old self.
There wasn’t any real organization to the photos. Besides pictures of Christmases past and a handful of summer moment. In the middle of one of them was Eddie looking very proud at the fort of mud complete with moat. He was absolutely filthy and absolutely beaming.
“I think it’s sweet,” Lucy said. “Very telling of things to come.”
Eddie had to laugh, pressing a kiss on her temple.
“You’re being mean,” he grumbled.
She only scrunched her nose in that way that said “maybe but I’m being cute about it”. He couldn’t argue with that nose.
She pointed to another photo and another until the three of them had spent nearly an hour going through the whole thing.
Some part of Eddie felt something akin to loss when they were forced to close the album.
It wasn’t that big all things considered. Most of the photos cut off after his eight birthday, the same year his mother finally had enough and bailed. Al wasn’t one for photos. Wayne took a handful when he could, but it wasn’t the same.
He remembered easily enough the afternoon Mrs. Henderson had roped him and Lucy into a similar situation.
She had photo albums, plural, all of them filled to bursting with memories and moments. The only pause was the year Lucy’s dad had died and even then the photos had come back with a vengeance as if to make up for lost time.
He felt the absence of his own in that moment. He wanted to share more. He wanted to watch Lucy as she laugh and smiled and indulged feeling the same satisfaction he had, like he knew her just a little better.
Wayne got up from the couch saying something about stepping out for a smoke leaving the two of them alone.
“Please tell me there are more of these laying around,” Lucy said, grinning as she said it.
Eddie shook his head. “‘Fraid not, these are limited edition baby photos. Can’t risk flooding the market.”
Something flashed behind Lucy’s eyes mirroring his own disappointment, but she smiled all the same deciding to keep it light as he had.
“Understandable, too much of these and you’d run all the other cute babies out of business.”
“Okay you gotta stop calling me cute or I’ll start to take it personal.”
“I’m sorry,” she said patting his thigh reassuringly. “You’re a very attractive and virile man.”
“Thank you.”
“Who also happened to be an adorable toddler.”
Eddie gave a groan of frustration burying his face into her neck as he pulled her closer.
“Aww, poor baby,” she cooed.
“Stooooop.”
Lucy only laughed, petting his hair as she held him right back.
Christ he loved her. First thing tomorrow he was buying a camera. God damn it if he wasn’t going to capture every second of this while he could.
