Errant Kingdom OCs
I’m back at it again in the Sims and making my OCs for @errantkingdomgame (which I am super excited for!).
Introducing the Farabee sisters!
The Farabee sisters (technically half-sisters, but they aren’t bothered by that) were raised by their mother, Rook, in Vih'thris. They took different paths in life, but still loved each other fiercely and meet up when they can. Jay and Corva have gotten Mags out of trouble more times then they can count (or were dragged into it). They are super competitive with each other (something they get from their mother) and challenges are frequent (cards, darts, drinking, etc.) and there is at least one tavern that they are banned from. Who will they romance? What path will they take? We will see...
Jay Farabee (Ambassador)

Library Chatter (Errant Kingdom)
Been avidly playing through @errantkingdomgame‘s prologue and loving it, and so I couldn’t stop myself from writing a “deleted scene”-esque exchange between my Knight--Aleksei--and my Ambassador, Laevateinn. So have these two nerds hanging out in the library.
“So, there’s been an assassination.”
The library had been silent for long hours, Aleksei secluding themself in the corner to avoid the other occupant. Ambassador Laevateinn Aliprand wasn’t the worst person to be around, but being around anyone from Vih’thris after an attempted assassination wasn’t something high on their to-do list.
But they and Laevateinn had rooms near each other, and both favored spending time in the library. For a moment, Aleksei contemplated pretending they hadn’t heard the leathán ambassador speak, but Laevateinn was too smart to fall for that.
“...Indeed,” Aleks answered instead, looking over at Laevateinn. The redhead was perched on a chair, heels awkwardly braced against the chair legs rather than touching the ground. That was nothing new--while the two hadn’t ever interacted in depth at home, it had been hard to miss the short firebrand with red-and-gold hair and pointed teeth who never met a chair that they would sit in normally. Even in Vih’thris, where leathán were more common even among nobility, Laevateinn had been an outlier--not only for their ears and teeth, but for the badly-hidden fact that they were illegitimate, and the fact that they refused to go unnoticed at court.
At least, Aleks mused, Laevateinn was notable at court for their own characteristics, rather than their father’s.
“Any thoughts about it?” Laevateinn asked after another moment of silence, and Aleks sighed, finally putting their book aside and looking up to fully meet the shorter Vih’thrisian’s eyes.
“Ambassador Aliprand, are you asking me as a knight of Novus, or as the child of Galatine Nix? If it is as the former, I am afraid I have no more information than you do, and if it is as the latter, I would hate to have my respect for you so diminished.” They had pulled the formality of court speech up around them like a shield, and were surprised and relieved to see Laevateinn’s eyes widen at the second part of their speech. There was silence for a moment, before Laevateinn spoke.
“I honestly was asking in an attempt to start conversation, but--well. I see now where my mistake was.” Their smile was wry, curved lips exposing one unnaturally sharp canine. “I assure you, Knight Nix, I meant no slight upon your family or personal honor.” Their face turned somewhat more serious. “Has anyone here been giving you shit about that? I would be happy to correct them--”
“No,” Aleks answers, because the earnestness in Laevateinn’s face is strange and uncomfortable, like fire trying to be cold. “No, nobody has said anything. I doubt that many here remember--it was two decades ago in Vih’thris.”
It was of course the fact that Galatine Nix, Aleks’s father, had been killed for a similar, failed assassination attempt on the rulers of Vih’thris, when Aleksei was still a child.
“I highly doubt the Novian memory is less petty and lasting than the Vih’thrisian,” Laevateinn laughed, a sound a little too close to crackling fire for it to be entirely human, ‘but you’re right, if nobody’s said anything obviously, they probably aren’t talking about it. Really, though, do you have any ideas about the assassination? Because it happening so soon after both of us showed up is not good for international relations.”
“I...honestly have no idea,” Aleksei sighed, giving up on the corner and moving more toward the center of the room. “I had two suspicious figures, but for the first both Ambassador Veritas and the Knight Commander said it was likely not him, and for the second--well,” they hedge, “to be fair I didn’t particularly suspect Se--Erik Nyström in the first place, but I spoke with him and find it unlikely that he is the culprit.”
“You spoke with him,” Laevateinn said, eyebrows raised and the twist of her mouth intrigued. “Managed better than I did, although that might be unsurprising. Not a very chatty man, not that I can blame him.” They sighed, a gusty loud sound in the quiet of the library. “What about me? I have to be a suspect, right?”
“If you were, do you think I would tell you?” Aleksei asked. Laevateinn smirked.
“As direct as you are? Yes. I only saw you tangentially around court, Knight Nix, but that was enough to pick up on your reputation as a painfully direct person. It’s refreshing.” Seeing the look that must be on Aleks’s face, Laevateinn laughed again. “That’s not sarcastic, by the way, it’s genuine. I spend a lot of time contractually obligated to deal with snakes. Directness is an attribute I tend to cherish where I can find it.”
Compliments were almost as strange from Laevateinn as concern was, and Aleks shifted. “I...suppose I thank you, then, Ambassador Aliprand, for your kind words.”
“Thank me or don’t, it’s all the same to me,” Laevateinn shrugged. “Anyway, so I’m likely not a suspect, or at least not one you’re investigating. Good, because I’d hate to be the last person to know that I was an attempted assassin. I’m an ambassador, for the gods’ sakes. I should at least be on top of my own movements. It would be embarassing in the extreme had I overlooked an assassination attempt.”
Aleks looked over at them, eyes narrowing. “...you have met Ambassador Veritas, haven’t you?”
“Of course!” Laevateinn said, perking up. “Why?”
“...it occurs to me the pair of you might get along almost too well,” Aleks admitted, and got another fire-bright laugh from Laevateinn.
“Why, have they been fond of messing with you as well? I do apologize, Knight Nix, if I’m making you uncomfortable,” they said, leaning over. It was hard, Aleks thought, to stay miffed at someone almost a foot shorter than you who looked so abashed by the idea of making you upset. “I don’t mean anything by it, I need you to know. You’re just...you’re so very straight-laced, you know? It’s like having a loose thread on the hem of my clothes, my fingers itch until I can pick at it.”
Aleks sighed, shaking their head.
“I’ve...heard sentiments like that before.” Mostly from Caelan. They wondered, absently, how their elder brother was doing back home. They hadn’t written--it wasn’t really in their nature, and the way things went between them and Caelan, Cael usually initiated any contact. But he was similarly fond of trying to push Aleks out of their “comfort zone,” as he put it. “I am not particularly uncomfortable, I assure you. I merely...find it difficult to appropriately respond to teasing. Should you actually upset me, I will make you aware of it.”
“Oh, good,” Laevateinn said, settling back into their chair. “Well. I should be getting back to my rooms before Cedric scolds me for staying up too late again.” Right--Cedric was accompanying Laevateinn. Another person who enjoyed ruffling Aleks’s feathers, so to speak, although Aleks had never particularly minded. They’d try to keep an eye out for him, although given his talents, Aleks had no doubt they wouldn’t find him unless he wanted to be found.
“Good evening, then, Ambassador Aliprand,” Aleks said, tapping their fist to their chest in salute. Laevateinn smiled again, a wide one that showed all their teeth. It was less threatening, this time.
“Come, our rooms are so close to each other and we share this nice library, it seems a shame not to be friends. Call me Laevateinn.”
“Laevateinn, then,” Aleks said, nodding. “In that case, you may call me Aleks.” Careful wording--it was in their nature to be careful, even if Aleks was (mostly) sure Laevateinn didn’t share their Neighbor mother’s predilection for name-snatching.
“Goodnight, Aleks,” Laevateinn grinned, and swept out of the small library.
