do you have any advice for someone who kinda "failed" to break into tech and is still in the medium-level for learning. i feel like i've spent so much time (years) on this but haven't made much progress. how do i really get into it and stay in it? love your blog btw. i'm tempted to start one of my own but my projects are a mess and ugly 😭
Tumblr media
I'm sorry to hear that you feel like you haven't made much progress in breaking into tech. It's important to remember that everyone's journey is different, and it's never too late to start or improve. But then again, you have spent years learning and you want to into the tech industry.
Tumblr media
The obvious advice would be don't give up. My dad has been studying to get into Cybersecurity since the early 90s and he just got into the industry this year. He never gave up - family to look after and he could study like the other students in his university course because the large majority of them were single 18-22-year-olds who their only responsibility is themselves. Don't give up and don't compare yourself to other people.
You've got to look at what has been holding you back. Health issues, work issues, money? Can't study full-time or even part-time if you need to pay the bills.
Even if you can, are you consistent with your studying? We all know consistency is key. Studying for one week but don't study for 2-3 weeks won't work. I know the type of learner I am - if I don't code or study every day, even just for 30 minutes, then my tendency to procrastinate will increase a lot and it'll all go downhill from there.
Know your strength - build on the skills you are good at. Believe it or not, I know a developer I met in a discord server who only uses HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to build websites and webpage themes for clients as a freelancer and he's doing really well. It's because he realised that he's really good at those three basic languages and he worked really hard to excel at them. Expand on what you know best.
On the flip side, you could look at job postings around where you live or nationally in your country and see what skills/languages/technologies they ask for the most for hiring developers. Example: I live in the UK and a couple of months ago when I was actively looking for a new Frontend Dev job, I saw that Vue.js, React.js, and PHP (besides the usual HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) were asked for the most. If I wanted those jobs, I would learn those technologies, create a few projects to showcase my knowledge in them, and start applying. That could be one way to break into the industry.
Another way would be certificated. Bootcamps, online courses, or in-person courses like university or community colleges. Yes, they say that you don't always need a university degree to get into tech but some kind of education you've gone through that is tech-related e.g. Google courses or the Frontend Dev course that Meta is providing (paid). My colleague completed a computer science degree but he then did a bootcamp and he completed and that's how he landed the job where I work. So even graduates are getting further education. If you can't afford the massive fees, Udemy is a great place to get courses. And don't be shy with the Havard CS50 course videos they have on YouTube - free and you get a certificate free as well!
The advice I give might not work if you haven't identified why after all these years you haven't gotten your foot into the tech industry. This is no way intended to be rude, but if another person who had the same amount of time you studied, and they have gotten a tech job in that time, what makes you different? Goes back to what I said about the things that are holding you back. Some of the reasons are inevitable like health but you need to keep making that effort!
If you need help, you need to ask. Find a mentor or support group. Having someone to guide and encourage you can be incredibly helpful. Look for a mentor or join a support group where you can connect with others who are also learning and growing in tech. You can search for them online, some people offer advice for CV/Resume help or real "getting into tech" advice on places like Fiverr or Upwork or just google for some consultants online. They would cost obviously but if you're really struggling, this might help. After completing bootcamps, they tend to help you get your first job etc so they might be worth considering!
The last bit of advice is do you have a portfolio? No no, like a proper one where you feel confident enough to give to family members, friends, and potential employers? No? Either learn to build one (free of charge) or hire someone to build it for you (costs money) A portfolio is a great way to showcase your skills and projects to potential employers. Even if your projects feel messy or ugly, focus on highlighting what you learned and what you accomplished.
Tumblr media
Obviously, I gave hints of advice more towards Frontend Dev because that's what I know more of but you can alter the advice to whatever niche in programming you're into. Remember, breaking into any field takes time and effort. Stay motivated and focused on your goals, and don't be afraid to reach out for help or support when you need it. Good luck!
** I'm not the best at giving advice but I hope this helps 💗

I know I haven't written an indepth update for a while. I just wrote this in an email to my outpatient therapist and dietitian. We've exchanged emails every so often just to keep them in the loop.
I'm going to put my latest response under a cut because I feel like it's way too much of a 'debbie downer' kind of post.
As an update, things are quite bad... I've never felt so much self-hatred, and this depressed, hopeless, and alone. Insurance has approved iop through 12/31/2023 but that is to be expected because that is the last day of my coverage with (current insurance plan) and (new insurance plan). However, I'm pretty sure this will be my last week of iop because there's not much more they can do for me. I'm really, really scared of what will happen if I don't have that little bit of extra support.
I talked to my parents... My brother's wedding was Nov. 18th. I'm not quite sure where things are at. My Mom texted and then called me on Thanksgiving and we had a 2-3 minute conversation.
(RY) and I have drifted apart quite a bit. That hurts so much. I feel almost entirely alone.
Sleep was crazy for a while. First night eating. That stopped but then I started waking myself from kicking while saying how much I hate myself and to "Make it stop." It's calmed down a lot since a huge increase in my night meds and since I've gotten new bedding.
I do not at all recognize my body. I saw my weight a month ago and at that time I was (X). I can't imagine where it's at now. Every time I see my reflection anywhere, the disgust is sky high. I despise my body which in turn increases my self-hatred so much.
I love (program director at php/iop). I feel like she's the only one that will tell it to me straight and I trust her so much. Last week she met with me and we discussed that I've been in a relapse for a while. I'd have to say I agree with her...  ED behaviors are weird, in fact I'd say it's tortuous. It's a mixture of b/ping, restricting, and grazing. My meal plan has pretty much flown out the window. Of course this has only increased my self-hatred. And I'm scared. I CAN NOT stay at this weight but what will happen in full relapse? I don't know if my body can withstand that and I don't want all of this treatment for nothing.
Dissociation has been happening frequently and it's intense and scary. Essentially I'll get online, go down the rabbit hole, and then it's 6-7hrs later and I look around and realize what's happened and have to reorient myself back to existing in the real world. I tried so many things to prevent it but at this time I've kind of given up. It usually happens on the weekend when I have the day free. At this point, I think I need to not be in my apartment at all, even on my days off.
Work is great but stressful because of constant deadlines. It's kind of hard to maintain deadlines when I'm spending 5hrs/day (2 of those hrs are for commuting) dedicated to treatment. Add in the dissociation and I'm almost always getting 4-5hrs of sleep a night because I'm either staying up super late or getting up super early to get things done on time.
That said, I have gotten a lot out of treatment this time. It's all in my head. I have such a hard time putting everything I've learned into action. It's all there but the depression, hopelessness, and self-hatred are so intense that doing anything takes a HUGE amount of energy.
So not the greatest update. I'm sorry if this is super depressing or pessimistic. I'm just really not in a good place.

US Agricultural Drone Market: Current Analysis and Forecast (2024-2032)
According to a new report by UnivDatos Market Insights, the U.S. Agricultural Drone Market is expected to reach USD million by 2032 by growing at a CAGR of ~23%.
Agricultural drones have in the recent past been the most radical development in the farming industry in the United States in terms of response to challenges of farming as well as resources used in farming. These UAVs are now revolutionizing farming practices, crop management, yield, and of course, cost control. With a continuously increasing number of farmers and producers requiring precision agriculture, the use of agricultural drones in the United States is on the rise and has lately featured prominently in the media for the likelihood of promoting sustainability and efficiency.
Tumblr media
Precision Agriculture: The Spine of Drone Systems
New areas that have helped drive the use of agricultural drones are precision agriculture which is the use of innovation in farming. Since drones operate as flying sensors and provide first-hand information on crop conditions it is easier for farmers to determine when to irrigate or fertilize the crops, or possibly use pesticides. In the U.S., huge fields as the fundamentals of the farming industry these drones assist with controlling the huge acres of territories functionally.
Multispectral cameras on drones can shoot images and the colors of the light will tell the health of plants. Knowing stress factors, for example, drought or pest attack on crops, farmers can address those areas more effectively without having to waste water, fertilizers, or pesticides. It not only helps to decrease the operating expenses but also contributes to the development of equitable and ecologically sustainable agriculture undertakings.
Higher Usage as the Demand for Online Marketing Intensifies
The U.S. agricultural drone market is recording impressive growth because of the growing need for sophisticated, efficient solutions for farming. Current information implies that the demand for agricultural drones in the United States is likely to rise at more than a 15% CAGR during the next five years. This is owing to the increase in the demand for high accuracy in planting, lack of adequate labor, and increased concern about the environmentally friendly methods of farming.
Especially, big farming businesses are likely to enjoy the drone advances because it helps them oversee their produce more efficiently, and gather a ton of data. Even mere smallholder farmers have embraced the innovation since cheap models and easy-to-use software are also available in the market. With more farmers succeeding in making the right decisions to purchase drones, the rate at which this hardware will be used will increase, driving the growth of the market even more rapidly.
The authorities’ participation and the legal environment
The U.S. government has shifted the support of drone use in the agricultural sector by offering the necessary regulations that will favor the use of UAVs. Also, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has been at the forefront in advocating for the use of precision agriculture technologies like drones among farmers. The USDA has also supported farmers requesting funds to enhance these technologies and drive the agricultural drone market.
Access sample report (including graphs, charts, and figures): https://univdatos.com/get-a-free-sample-form-php/?product_id=6901
Technological Progress Promoting Efficiency
The advances in technology now make drones even more attractive for farmers in the United States. Modern agricultural drones have everything from GPS and thermal sensors to machine learning that can analyze crop data on the go. These innovations accurately capture the mapping, crop monitoring, and analysis to assist farmers to increase production effectiveness, while reducing wastage.
There has been advancement, especially in the use of artificial intelligence in drone technology. This kind of drone contains artificial intelligence, which can help them to analyze crop conditions, as well as foresee such problems in advance.
Conclusion
Drone farming as a concept has gradually been making headway in the U.S., thanks in part to innovative companies. By making real-time crop observation and resource management possible, drones are the key to elevating the efficiency of farming techniques known as precision agriculture. With an increased number of people embracing the use of drones and with the developments that have made drones have better capabilities in the future, the agricultural drone market stands a good chance of becoming the next big thing in the future of farming in the United States. The continued support of the governments and increasing recognition of the advantages of this technology may help agricultural drones change and improve the agriculture industry, thus allowing American farmers to meet the needs of tomorrow with intensified competition on the international level.

hello izzy loa! i started watching supersimpledev's html and css youtube tutorial and wanted to follow along. i've been taking notes and sometimes im scared i'm wasting time on the video when there are many other resources, for example, that freecodecamp video you linked, the 21hours one and i saw another blogger is watching the brocode video.
would it be bad to switch videos even though i've already taken notes to see how other people teach it? idk i feel like if i keep switching i wont actually learn anything.
also - do you still recommend that 21 hour video? how do you feel about beginners learning java first?
Hiya 💗
🔍 "would it be bad to switch videos even though i've already taken notes to see how other people teach it? idk i feel like if i keep switching i wont actually learn anything"
There is no shame/guilt in switching between video resources. I do this all the time and I even would recommend other people to do the same! It's like researching for an essay; teachers encourage you to have lots of references in your essay so you can make a more developed point of view. This is the same! I don't rely on one resource because there could be a bunch more out there that can 1) explain things more plainly 2) go in much more detail and 3) show tips and tricks that I can use in the future.
Like I mentioned in the resources I made (resource 1 | resources 2) I talk about having multiple resources to help you learn. Literally, for me, imagine I wanted to learn PHP right now, I would look online for:
Free PDF PHP book
YouTube Tutorials
Website/Articles on learning PHP like W3School
(If I am really committed) Find a Udemy course on PHP to follow along
And for each, I would have like 1 or 2 places/books/videos to refer back to when stuck! So, yes, of course, it's okay! If you truly get stuck at the abundance of resources and how to study from each one, build a study schedule for the resources, not just the subject e.g.
9-10am - YouTube video resources
10-11am - PDF Book resources
11-12pm - Websites/Articles
Personally, I just do my schedule by subject and use the resources simultaneously. The key thing is don't overwhelm yourself with resources. Pick the ones that help YOU not because "oh it helps this person so I'll use it too even though it confuses me" no.
Also, That feeling of wasting time is okay, it's natural when you want to learn so much in so little time, but that's why I stress about taking your time. If you don't, you'll be like scanning a book - not actually taking things into your brain. That will result in you forgetting and having to start back at square one. Learn at a pace that's right and gives you a good time for your brain to comprehend what you're learning!
🔍 "do you still recommend that 21 hour video?"
Yes, I learnt a lot from that video and really laid down the foundations for me then I used other resources to build on top of that!
🔍 "how do you feel about beginners learning java first?"
That's your personal choice, I don't have a stance on if it's a good first language to learn! Java is used to all sorts so if it aligns with what you want to be building in the future then go right ahead! I recently was looking at University courses for Computer Science and a lot of them teach either Java or C++ as the students' first programming language so yeah!
Hope this helps! 💗
