Im probably gonna get cancelled for this...

But my complaint about Leano (Legoshi's mom) in the anime is that she is showed her in a way too good light.

Yes, Leano is a victim because nature decided to play a joke on her by first making her an exceptionally beautiful wolf(btw, kudos to the anime for making her a model, that is my HC for her) but she was also a narcissist.

Yes, I'm aware that's not a very nice thing to say about this woman who killed herself, but it is an important character trait.

My guess is that the anime either skipped the parts of her backstory that showed her less nice traits (like spending more time in her room than with her son) either to save time or in fear that the viewers would be furious over the implication that she killed herself because she was ugly.

I'm not saying she is not a victim, I'm just saying she also a narcissist.

Your AU about Gosha and Yahya adopting Melon made me wonder about a couple of things.

Since Melon would be adopted as a baby, how different would his personality be like since he would have a loving and supportive family right from the start?

And how would his relationship be like with his two adopted dads and sister? Especially Leano since both are hybrids.

I think Melon would still feel cynical and bitter about society’s treatment of hybrids but he wouldn’t be as hateful of the world of hate himself as much.

Knowing Gosha, he’d love and support Melon just as much as he would Leano and Legoshi. Species differences and what society thought wouldn’t matter in their family, only that they had each other.

They’d be equally protective of Melon but I think Yahya would be much more likely to kill or severely harm someone if they dared to hurt his son (not that Gosha wouldn’t do the same but he’d probably try a less extreme approach before using violence).

So basically, Melon would have a lot more of a ‘who cares?’ attitude about society. He’d likely still have body dysmorphia issues and food insecurity (mainly that he can’t taste anything) but again, he’d have support for that.

Since Leano is (I think) a good couple years older than him, I can see her being a loving and protective big sister to him. Maybe she’d scare off anyone who’d try to bully Melon in school and walked him home from school to protect him. Being both hybrids, I think Melon and Leano could talk about things that they felt their fathers couldn’t fully understand.

For this reason, I think Leano’s death would be especially devastating to Melon but maybe in this AU she doesn’t die(?). I kinda want her in the AU so maybe in just ‘AU’s of the AU’ she does die but not in the main AU? 😅

If my math is right, Melon (being 24 canonically and Legoshi 17 to 18), Melon would be about 6 or 7 when Legoshi is born. They’re technically nephew and uncle, but they’d be more like brothers here. Melon would tease Legoshi over his relationship with Haru but he’d also give him a heads up when Yahya and Gosha are angry with him (“Legoshi, did you really eat someone’s leg? Dad and Papa are freaking out right now”).

Actual dialogue here:

Legoshi: “I’m grounded am I?”

Melon: “You’d be lucky if they let you out when you’re 30.”

Side note: Leano would totally stand up for Legoshi after he eats Louis’ leg, fights Riz, and drops out of school. Arguing that Gosha and Yahya instilled in him a ‘sense duty and hero complex’ and Yahya saying: “He’s Gosha’s grandson alright.” Lol

TLDR: Yahya and Gosha are loving dads to Melon and he’s close to his adoptive sister and nephew. Yeah their family dynamic is a little strange but they wouldn’t have it any other way.

Beastars Crack Theory/Headcanon I Shamelessly stole (SPOILERS WARNING)

Im headcanoning that Miyagi is Juno’s father and his one night stand with Leano was basically cheating on his wife and Juno got into Cherryton’s drama club because she got into acting because of her father and shes basically a nepo baby of a b-list actor. Basically her hitting on Legoshi means she was hitting on her half brother the whole time. (I stole this theory from @/iegoharu on twitter shamelessly and ima use this as my headcanon solely because i dislike Legojuno)

Legoshi actually went through a milder hybridization process from childhood to pre-adolescence.

As far as I understand, all the hybrids in the Beastars universe up to the age of 20 belong more to the species of one parent, and after this 20 beginnings, the guides of the other parent begin to manifest.

This was the case with Leano, who looked like an "ordinary attractive gray wolf" until her twentieth birthday, but after that Gosha's genes began to rapidly dominate her body - by the time she committed suicide, she already looked more like a Komodo dragon.

This was the case with Melon, who for 25 years of his life looked more like a Gazelle with bright predator features, but most likely after the age of twenty he began to be covered with leopard spots, which he tried to hide with a tattoo of melon leaves - at the end of the manga, he already looked like a purebred male leopard if not for his horns.

And... the same thing happened with Legoshi, but instead of 20 years old, it happened in adolescence, due to the fact that he was only a quarter of the Komodo dragon.

Let me explain.

How do we see little Legoshi? (his baby photos and flashbacks to his puppy days) - an ordinary cute gray wolf cub who looks absolutely ordinary and feels the same way, normal average height and build, big eyes, more animated facial expressions and behavior more appropriate for a representative of the canine family, although he was a little introverted due to his own personality and Gosha's upbringing. An ordinary wolf cub, an ordinary member of the canid family, which you would never think of as having reptiles in his family. It's the same with hybrids - in childhood they look more like the same parents.

What do we see in Legoshi's teenage years?

He is much larger than other canids and produces a real sinister valley effect, he has poor facial expressions and small eyes that look like the eyes of his grandfather, the eyes of the Komodo dragon, and he is extremely - Legoshi has become overly antisocial and prone to loneliness, he has an extremely narrow circle of loved ones and friends. Who does it remind you of? That's right, a reptile. Yahya literally says that Legoshi - Gosha if he were a mammal.

This brings me to the essence of my post, which is explicitly stated in the title - Legoshi really went through a softened variation of the process of hybridization and changing the dominance of genes that all hybrids go through from childhood to adolescence.

As a child, he was more of a gray wolf, and in adolescence he - Komodo dragon.
