This is some thing I've seen going to League of Legends an arcane fans fighting over katarina being gay. It's a pretty stupid argument on its own because she's in a canon relationship with a man and League of Legends fans or whining about that we're making every character Gay and I think this is pretty stupid ass on.

It's part literally kind of part of famdom culture characters are gonna get shipped. All the time characters are gonna be assumed to be something even if the relationship with a man or a woman doesn't really fucking matter. Characters are gonna get shipped any type of way I've seen character that haven't even met haven't looked at each other don't know who the fuck they are but they're still ship anyways.

And I feel like you guys are kind of forgetting with bisexuality as you can still be attracted to a man you can still date a man and still be attracted to women if somehow League of Legends comes out of the woodwork's, and say hey, she's actually bisexual doesn't really fucking matter

She's in a canon, relationship with a man we can't change that it's been happening since day one but can we say hey maybe that she's lesbian or hate maybe she's bisexual. It's a funny thing. Let people have fun sometimes shit like that's gonna happen if you don't like it block the person scroll away you don't have to like it. Nobody's forcing it down your fucking throat. If you don't like it, it doesn't really matter. And you shouldn't whine about her make a big deal of how everybody is making every character Gay it's not doesn't really fucking matter.

And before anybody like says a dumb thing that I don't like garen x katarina yes, I actually do like the relationship. I think it's pretty cute on its own do I care that people are speculating that she's a lesbian or bisexual no I don't. I think it's funny, but I'm not gonna force it Somebody start saying that she straight that's never gonna happen. I don't care.

If anything, just let people have fun, you don’t need to be the party pooper over or defund police

Was having a conversation with a friend about Old League lore. It got me curious, is Garens character still basically analogous to a genocide general, what with the mage hunt and all that, or has that largely been retconned away? I'm as familiar with league lore as I used to be.

It's more or less as it was. Mageseeker and the Lux comic have attempted to cast him as a reluctant soldier trying to resist bad orders to the best of his ability, but they haven't ever actually reckoned with any of his culpability and hypocrisy. It's one of those situations where the actions he is depicted as undertaking are astonishingly heinous when you think about them for even two seconds, but the story is invested in making sure you know that he personally feels very bad about doing it, and that in the name of nuance and fairness you should therefore be willing to be sympathetic with him.

Which. Y'know.

Asking us to hold sympathy for a guy who is dragging Extremely Obvious Metaphor For Queer People off to concentration, forced conversion and extermination camps is... I mean it was always a bit of an ask to make of a literate audience, but it's becoming ever more so as Current Year drags on.

idk I just don't have a lot of patience, in the present moment, for stories that try to leave heroic narrative space for people who hold pathetic loyalty to bad institutions, and commit atrocities in their name while shaking their head the whole time so everyone knows they mournfully disagree with what is currently being done, by them.

And if Garen was actually meant to be understood as some of the lowest scum of the earth: someone who knows better and does evil anyway, then that would make for an interesting story, but he's pretty consistently framed as a tragic figure doomed by his noble loyalty to a higher ideal, and oh don't you relate to his deep and complex struggle, such difficult moral questions he faces.

It feels telling of the audience that the story is written for, and the perspective it is written from.

And all those who hate that potential lesbians could have had a crush on Katarina recently, rushing to scream that she was straight !

Cool. And ? That won't stop people from shipping her with a girl (especially Elise) right now if they want ? And that won't stop the canon romance that Katarina has with Garen from existing (which I can't wait to see if it ends up being adapted since we're normally on an enemies to lovers trope).

Like... I see so many people in the fandom lol saying that the concept of ships ruins canon... But hat the hell are you talking about ?

Also, so funny to see them screaming and crying about how Vi & Caitlyn were "forced, not official in the game, that they were probably friends and that it's useless, just respect the canon instead of forcing queer characters" but strangely Timebomb who has nothing canon, not even ambiguity according to lol, well strangely it doesn't bother them.

They claim it's because it would be better done when clearly... no ? And yet I like this ship too. We all know why Caitvi seems forced to them but not Timebomb.

Seriously, all this disgusts me.

Let people ship whatever the fuck they want.

In defense of KataGaren...

Seen this ship cop a bit of flak after the Bite Marks video dropped...I think mostly because Arcane Only fans taking their first look at Katarina and going "PLEASE TELL US SHE'S A GIRLKISSER OH WAIT WHAT"

I mean she could be, I don't make the rules. But bashing poor Garen over it is a bit uncalled for and just plain mean. KataGaren's actually one of the few M/F League ships I kinda like.

Hear me out.

It's actually two-sided and they're actually on equal footing.

I know, shocking right, but most of the other M/F ships where they aren't either already a couple or already freaking married are in some way one sided? The Guy Likes The Girl and we either never get to see how she feels back or she has no idea who TF he is and is weirded out when he fail-flirts with her or there's some toxic power dynamic because League sure doesn't like giving its women agency in their M/F relationships unless the couple's introduced expressly as a couple.

There's an underlying comphet, "he wants her, so of course it's going to happen" that icks me out and I can't shake it away.

KataGaren though? They've got a pretty simple, straightforward 'loyal-warriors-for-rival-nations-but-we-had-a-couple-of-sword-fights-and-realized-we-are-hot-for-each-other-oh-no' dynamic.

The attraction is clearly mutual, they're equals on the field of battle and respect each other's prowess and loyalty to their nation even if they're enemies, no one is trying to fix anyone or manipulate anyone outside of the fairly transparent "I'll do whatever the mission takes, even taking you down" that they are both clearly aware of.

They just keep bumping into each other in dangerous situations and having flirty fights.

The straight-laced stoic paladin hero guy getting flustered but also excited by the flirtatious edgy assassin femme fatale who thinks riling him up is kinda cute actually oh wait damn do I like him never ceases to be funny.

Their dialogue in...LoR I think? Where they're throwing the expected threats at each other and then whispering asides planning a date later will never not be cute and funny.

Lux giving them both shit about it will never not be funny.

If you want to take it seriously, Katarina assassinating King Jarvan 3 is a pretty big point of conflict for the relationship if Garen ever finds out.

Garen would be the most boring character in League, Generic WhiteGuy Hero McChonkJaw, if it weren't for the fact that he's a GIGANTIC hypocrite

He's unswervingly devoted to his Duty And Honor as the front man of DEMACIAAAA including when he knows his duty is morally wrong.

But he genuinely loves his sister and has lied all his life to keep her secret safe.

And he's utterly smitten with a dangerous enemy agent who literally assassinated his king.

Katarina is a sexy edgy femme fatale stereotype on legs (and what legs they are) but as depicted in the Kat comic and some of her other material, she's also kind of a goofball and in her own special way, a gigantic faildaughter.

So there's an element that KataGaren is this edgy ship but it's also basically vanilla-flavored enemies-to-lovers and that's sometimes just fine.

And they're also kinda a pair of doofuses who are barely equipped by their respective traumatic nationalist upbringings to navigate whatever's going on between them.

She's got a couple of F/F ships if that's more to your taste and that's totally fine.

But there's nothing wrong with KataGaren and I like it.

Honestly I'd absolutely love it if whatever show follows Arcane includes Lux, but has her be completely oblivious to all the angst and drama happening around her.

Vi: "My sister and I, we didn't always get along."

Lux: "I know just what you mean! When we were kids, Garen used to get up early and eat the last cookie in the jar."

Vi: "... Yes Lux, it's like that."

-Someone suspects of harboring a dark secret and tails her, just to find out that Lux is actually volunteering at a soup kitchen after hours.

-She drives Katarina and Garen insane by chaperoning every date they go on to make sure they don't do anything more than hold hands.

Katarina: "C'mon, I won't even kill her, just maim her badly enough that she misses a date!"

Garen: *Sighs* "No Kat."

-She speaks way too casually to important figures.

-Has 0 angst awareness.

-Jinx (assuming she's alive) is completely weirded out by her.

Jinx: "C'mon, you've gotta to have some deep, dark secret festering in you."

Lux: "I don't have dark secrets: I have bright ones!"

Jinx: "... What the heck is a bright secret?"

Like everything else is super dramatic, but then there's just Lux in the middle of it.
