@leafbladie @chupacawha you best believe we're watching this shit lmao
Live-Action Series "Yu Yu Hakusho" Premieres Worldwide on December 14, 2023
Netflix has finally confirmed the premiere date and released two teasers on their twitter and official site. The soundtrack and the spirit gun seems cool. We're still waiting for a trailer and the rest of the cast announcement. I was surprised to know it took 5 years to produce this first season.
Furthermore, it has been decided that a special event called "The Eve of the Decisive Battle - Worldwide Fastest Screening Meeting” will be held in Tokyo on the eve of the distribution, December 13! Detailed information including guests and how to apply will be announced at a later date on the official site of the event: yuhakuevent.com. The applications start in about 30 days, so I'm wondering if that's when the trailer and full cast will be unveiled as well.
They might show an advance screening of the first episode. I'm assuming the guests are going to be the actors and director, but it would be a dream if Togashi-sensei showed up.
More info from Netflix:
More than three decades after "Yu Yu Hakusho" first captured the imagination of readers, the beloved manga gets a live-action adaptation that will debut exclusively on Netflix on December 14.
The original manga by the legendary Yoshihiro Togashi made waves when it was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump for four years from 1990. The series breathes new life into the story, and fans old and new can expect to encounter their favorite characters in ways that have never been seen before.
Utilizing a unique global one-team production strategy that spanned both Japan and the United States—the same approach to adapt the acclaimed “ONE PIECE” manga—Netflix took the same level of commitment to quality and authenticity in the live-action ONE PIECE to the production of Yu Yu Hakusho.
An international dream team was also assembled to bring the epic tale to the screen, tapping into the most advanced CG and VFX technologies from around the world. Known as “the most innovative VFX studio in the world” and lauded for their work on major Hollywood productions, Scanline VFX was instrumental in giving life to all the characters, both human and yokai (spirits), while delivering realistic battle action sequences.
Taking five years to complete the production of Yu Yu Hakusho, the team painstakingly ensured that the subtleties of every character’s emotions were accurately depicted in the adaptation. The fusion of state-of-the-art technology and a passion for staying true to the source material promises to make this adaptation a standout in the world of live-action anime.
Project Details:
Based on the manga: Yoshihiro Togashi “Yu Yu Hakusho” (Shueisha Jump Comics)
Director: Sho Tsukikawa
Cast: Takumi Kitamura, Jun Shison, Kanata Hongo, Shuhei Uesugi
Screenplay: Tatsuro Mishima
VFX Supervisor: Ryo Sakaguchi (Scanline VFX)
Executive Producer: Kaata Sakamoto (Netflix)
Producer: Akira Morii
In Association with:THE SEVEN
Production: ROBOT
Produced by: Netflix
Source: Netflix

Since you mentioned Thunderbolt Fantasy, I am legally obligated to share this with you: youtu(.)be/YIinYYtGWXc
Hahaha, but of course! I'd seen it before, but I still find it hilarious that this crossover exists. Especially the part where they fast forward through Kyuubey's technobabble. This kind of nonsense is exactly what I meant when I commented that Thunderbolt Fantasy is a fun time! XD
Turns out Urobuchi can write some pretty silly stuff when he's not taking everything so seriously.
Anyway, for anyone who hasn't seen that video, or who likes Madoka Magica and wants a taste of what Thunderbolt Fantasy looks like (it's Taiwanese puppetry rather than a 2D anime), here it is:

Can't say I kept up with you all this time, unfortunately I dropped off around the time you said you were shelving this project for good. Glad you all kept it up until the end though.
thanks! now you can simply binge read the entire thing.

I doubt she's dead for real. Too much of a fan favorite imo.
Man, on one hand I’d like for this to be true
On another, I’ll lose (more) respect for this game if they can’t actually commit to killing off characters and keep resorting to fake outs

leafbladie replied to your post: Im curious: In terms of shows you like, which...
Not sure about Madoka being remembered today for being “#toodark”. Like, a lot of people have described how it’s about holding hope to fight for what’s right in spite of thing feeling dark.
oh i definitely don’t mean that as a general consensus so much as a take i’ve seen fairly often on tumblr. i’ll be honest, i don’t totally know how it’s remembered outside my own tumblr bubble.

leafbladie replied to your post: Working on watching Magia Record again and like… I...
What’s wrong with Sana’s story? Also, they cut MadoHomu, so I think that was a great call
pacing abysmal, scene transitions abhorrent, nothing outside of the backstory drop makes a lick of sense... I haven’t felt that tortured watching an episode since I suffered through the first half of sailor moon R. It’s not like the usual artsy beauty that sucks you in for the pmmm series, it’s just bad.
I think Mami is the only one that had any business being in season one, in terms of storyline necessity, but she also could’ve been written out and replaced with Kuroe at the same time. Kuroe was like... introduced and then subsequently ignored.

I think S1 of SAO is mostly trash, but did you ever check out S2 (the one with Sinon and Yuuki). I really love those 2, and think it shows a great improvement over the first season.
Oh yeah I did watch it. Still garbage, but made some improvements.
