If you're going to write something to overrule the victory song, you have to mean it.

The words live with Changbin through the night, echoing over and over in his dreams until he rises with the shaft of the morning sun that falls across his bedroom floor.

His bedroom. Plain and bare, furniture that he never bought and precious few personal items, but they've been here long enough for it to feel like a familiar space where he comes and goes every day, a shelter from the shifting walls of the house and the unknown city outside it. He sleeps easy here now, lays down and drifts off just the same as he would in the dorms of their own world, listening to the sound of the wind brushing past the window outside.

Another batch of recs for @totaldramaficrecweek comin' up! Days 5 through 7.

Day 5 (19 July): Favourite Gen Fic

Too Many Cooks Spoil The Spaghetti by courtney-deserved-better, a re-write of "If You Can't Take The Heat…" with different characters who get into different wacky situations than in canon. I liked how the other characters played matchmaker with DJ and Duncan -- so sweet! The Gwen & Tyler focus was also really great. It's so rare to see them interact in fic, which is a shame since I like their dynamic. This one has plenty of soul and was fun to read.

For this next rec, I actually searched around for one I've never read before writing this list and found Team CIRRRRH's Descent Into Foam World by PPP SSC, (warning, it's only on FanFiction.Net.) Alejandro tells a spooky story right before his team begins mysteriously disappearing... Spooky! The ending makes it though, as I feel it's formulaic and too cartoony for my taste otherwise.

Day 6 (20 July): Favourite Romance

You Make My Knees Turn to Jelly by CerendaRoth, which is a Nowen futurefic. Aquarium dates are the cutest and it was nice to see these two live comfortably even after doing the reality show circuit -- for Nowen in particular I'm a sucker for fluff.

Day 7 (21 July): Overall Favourite

Brick_bronze165's Aletyler week 2023 by Brick_bronze165, a series of seven Aletyler one-shots written as a sort of personal ship week. I read each part of this when they came out, and I still occasionally reread them, since I love the ship and all the ways Brick_bronze165 explored it. The fics aren't incredible on face value, but I live on Aletyler scraps and this is like a buffet LOL.

NEVERMORE (더 이상) 13: a world full of blinds

Exhaustion drags at his cheeks and splinters his bones, and still, he can't sleep.

For a long time, Chan stares at the ceiling. Unfamiliar plaster covered over with white paint - the same as a thousand other buildings in any world, and yet so fundamentally different that he can't find any kind of solace in it. Not that the ceiling at home has ever offered him anything better. Usually, he would just sit up with his laptop until he falls asleep in his chair, rather than lie here, but when he sits up and looks around...

Nothing. The room is nice, but bare-bones; bed, dresser, lamp, a tall mirror standing in the corner. It reminds him of a hotel room, rather than anyone's bedroom in particular, except for the marks on the surfaces of shelves on the other side of the room that suggest there once was something there, the bottom drawer of the dresser that is wedged closed at a funny angle and sticks on something when he tries to open it. Even the window is more reminiscent of a hotel than any home he's ever had, looking out on a perfectly nice view of the tree-lined avenue the building faces.
