listening back to my spotify top 100 is funny because most of it is your standard new wave britpop et cetera and then every now and again you hear... "in praise of women" from a little night music. "bring me my bride" from forum. a totally inconsequential song from some musical or other that is nearly unlistenable in a context like this playlist, but that i listened to enough to warrant the #20 spot 😐

Broadway’s first Curly. His hair seems to have some curl to it, even if it’s slicked into semi-non-existence. In comparison to my very curly-haired grandfather when he used to slick his hair back, I’d hazard a guess and say an 8, but minus one for selling out to the machine and de-curling it!! 7/10

Gordon MacRae

This is the guy in the movie. This is the one they choose to immortalize? He’s not curly at all!!! 0/10

Harold Keel

The West End Cowboy (oxymoron imo!!). Not a curl in sight. 0/10

Laurence Guittard

Is his hair even long enough to pretend-curl for the show? -1/10

John Diedrich

His hair is somewhat wavy. It can be inferred, perhaps, once, as a child, that it may have been curly. 2/10

Hugh Jackman (Oh hello we’re in color now)

No curls here but if you look up production pics they did make his hair look very nicely curled and cute, and he even takes his hat off long enough to see it. 3/10 for effort in the hair and makeup department.

Patrick Wilson

Why does he look like a combo of GOB from Arrested Development and a hint of Chris Pratt. No curls to be seen, once again, lackluster effort from the Broadway Machine. 0/10!

Now we’re talking, babey! All natural curly hair. Very curly. Can confirm and have seen him with my own eyes in other productions in which his hair was already curly, by which I can say he is genuinely and authentically a curly gentleman. Look at the little Superman curl. He looks radiant. 11/10

Erotische Verwicklungen bei einem Wochenende auf dem Lande. Stephen Sondheims lächelndes Sommernachts-Musical verträgt auch Österreich als Schauplatz, wegen dem Walzertakt wahrscheinlich, obwohl das herzliche Verhältnis zu Sommernächten mir in Schweden eigentlich schlüssiger scheint, und die Blümchentapetenquote unnötig hoch ist. Der Score ist leidlich intakt (verglichen mit Irma la Douce), aber mit Hal Prince als Filmdirektor und einer ganzen Handvoll Originalbestzungs-Schauspielern versteht man es natürlich gerade nicht, warum sie deren Lieder dann weglassen. Wir sind auch ein wenig von Trevor Nunns ganz besonders glamouröser Neuproduktion verwöhnt, und ich mag Liaisons und ganz besonders The Millers’ Son, (das unvermeidliche Send in the Clowns hingegen habe ich schön ausgefeilter gehört); Aber der Tobi sagt, ich soll nicht immer quengeln, wenn Lieder fehlen. Ich möchte in diesem Zusammenhang jedenfalls nicht unerwähnt lassen, daß Hal Prince danach nie wieder einen Film gedreht hat. Es ist immer noch ganz niedlich, aber es hätte wunderbarer werden können.
