YouTube star Lilly Singh wants SRK, Ranveer Singh on her late night show

YouTube sensation Lilly Singh wants a ‘Bollywood’ touch to her late-night show, and says she would like to host stars like Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra and Shah Rukh Khan on “A Little Late with Lilly Singh”.

“I would like Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, to name a few to come on my show. Shah Rukh would be great as well,” Lilly told IANS when asked for her Bollywood wishlist.

“Anyone actually. I mean I grew up with Bollywood and I am a huge fan of Bollywood so anyone from Bollywood is welcome on my show,” she added.

Case against Delhi Police lodged at NHRC

A case has been filed against the Delhi Police for its alleged action at the Jamia Milia Islamia Universit, at the National Human Rights Commission.

Complainant Saurabh Das has alleged that “on the night of December 15, the Delhi Police under the command of Deputy Commissioner of Police-South East” had “brutally assaulted” students of the varsity.

The complaint further alleges vandalisation of the building by the cops, restriction from allowing lawyers to meet students and even detention of a minor.

RIL hits Rs 10 lakh crore market cap

Oil-to-telecom major Reliance Industries (RIL) on Thursday surpassed Rs 10 lakh crore in market capitalisation, becoming the first Indian company to do so.

RIL hit its 52-week high on the BSE at Rs 1,581.25 a share, rising 0.64 percent. While RIL gained nearly 40 percent during the last year, the Nifty50 index advanced over 13 percent.

Reliance is followed by TCS as the second most valued firm. HDFC Bank, Hindustan Uniliver and HDFC were the others.

Among RIL’s big ticket announcements was its aims to be net debt-free by the end of the financial year ending March 2020.

CCI to investigate Flipkart, Amazon deep discounting on mobile phones

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has launched an investigation to find out if the exclusive arrangements, deep discounting and preferential listing by e-commerce marketplaces like Amazon and Flipkart for mobile phones are causing an adverse effect on competition.

The CCI on Monday passed directions for investigation under Section 26(1) of the Competition Act, 2002. The order was passed by Ashok Kumar Gupta, chairman, Sangeeta Verma and Bhagwant Singh Bishnoi, both members.

In an 11 page order, the CCI observed that the exclusive arrangements between smartphone/mobile phone brands and e-commerce platform/select sellers selling exclusively on either of the platforms, coupled with the allegation of linkages between these preferred sellers and e-commerce companies merits an investigation.

Smriti lashes out at Rahul for ‘Rape in India’ remark

Union Minister Smriti Irani lashed out on Friday at Rahul Gandhi for his remark ‘Rape in India’ and called it deplorable that he should not play politics on rape, and asked his mother Congress President Sonia Gandhi to advise and guide him.

She demanded a strong action against the former Congress chief and not just an apology.

Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday, while addressing an election rally in Jharkhand took a jibe on the Prime Minister’s pet project ‘Make in India’ and said: “Earlier it was ‘make in India’, but now it is rape in India”.

Speaking to the media outside the Parliament, Irani said how could the Congress leader stoop to such extent as to mean something like “inviting men to India to rape”.

Rani Mukerji: ‘Mardaani 2’ will bring in awareness

Actress Rani Mukerji, who is gearing up for the release of “Mardaani 2”, says the ethos of her film is to bring in awareness.

“The ethos of ‘Mardaani 2’ is to bring awareness and letting girls and women know about what’s out there for them to be kind of they need to be aware of the danger. Because danger does not have a face. You cannot identify it…” Rani told IANS.

She added: “It’s important to have your ears and eyes open and that’s what ‘Mardaani’ does with both the films the awareness factor has been stronger it basically shows how crimes are committed and people fall prey to unfortunate events.”

Kriti Kharbanda, Pulkit Samrat are in ‘a happy space’

“Pagalpanti” co-stars Kriti Kharbanda and Pulkit Samrat, who have been quire candid about their relationship, say people should accord them and their families due space and privacy.

“We are not hiding our relationship but I feel people should give us some space because it’s a family thing,” Kriti said.

Pulkit added: “I think personal and family matters should be kept limited within the family. Our families are camera shy and media-shy. It is not right on our part to express feelings on their behalf. I can just say we are in a happy space.”

Miss India Manasa Varanasi was shy as child

Manasa Varanasi, who was crowned the winner of VLCC Femina Miss India World 2020 on Wednesday, was a shy child but took to various art forms to express herself.

The 23-year-old engineering graduate from Hyderabad, who will represent the country at the Miss World 2020 pageant in December later this year, is working as financial information exchange analyst.

She was shy child but took keen interest in Bharatnatyam and music to express herself. Her interests include reading, yoga, music and staring at the sky.

She studied at Global Indian School and did her degree from Vasavi College. She now enjoys exploring the world of finance with her much adored teammates.

During her college days, she used to participate in pageants. She started focusing on modeling when she was 21.

Kharge to replace Azad as leader of opposition in RS

Congress MP Mallikarjun Kharge is set to replace Ghulam Nabi Azad as Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, sources said.

Sources in the Congress said that Sonia Gandhi as Chairman of the Congress Parliamentary party has written to the Chairman to appoint Kharge as the Leader of Opposition.

However, there is no confirmation yet from the Chairman of the Upper House office.

Mallikarjun Kharge was the leader of the Congress in the last Lok Sabha.

Kharge, a former Union Minister in the Manmohan Singh government, has a long career in politics and belongs to the Dalit community. He was a minister during the Congress rule in Karnataka.

Root-led England team arrives in Chennai ahead of Test series

The England cricket team, led by skipper Joe Root, on Wednesday arrived in Chennai from Sri Lanka ahead of the four-match Test series against India slated to begin from February 5.

The official handle of England Cricket posted a 35-second video on Twitter with a caption: “Joe Root and the team have arrived in India ahead of our four-match Test series.”
