“Getting To Know Jordan Schlansky” with Conan O’Brien

This was years ago during the Writer’s Strike (hence Conan’s Beard-Of-Solidarity for the Writers) and it was probably one of my favorite moments in Television. I recall a ton of shows having to lose their writers and literally having to do all the work (”show must go on”) without each respective writing team. So, it was a lot like watching the gears start to unwind in the machine (so-to-speak) and I just remember watching Conan O’Brien basically lose his mind in the process (in front of a national audience of course). 

The silver lining, for me, was when John Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and Conan O’Brien did a cross-over “fight” on their shows. Now THAT was the crowning achievement to the whole Writer’s Strike dilemma and took their desperation & creativity to a different place I hadn’t seen before on late night talk shows (which became oddly ingenious). It was fascinating to see where determination met obligation in the talk show arena (with less means). It was not a good time for the writers or the people who had to continue to carry on the responsibility of producing those shows with less staff, but DAMN they really did it I though. It goes to show creative people don’t need all the bells & whistles to make the magic happen (although bells & whistles do help).

Sometimes you can find some real gems while sifting through mounds of sh!t (baHahahaHa). This moment always stuck out to me and makes me laugh every time. So funny!
