#Lamb is just as nosy as River which I think he finds useful and vexing all at once

So I haven't quite figured out where this goes in the grand scheme of things, but it's a snippet somewhere in Lamb's musings about River and his disaster attracting personality:
Lamb first suspected there was more to River than met the eye when his arrival at Slough House was preceded shortly by the arrival of Sidonie Baker.
Sid Baker, who had no business being in Slough House, who was unusually interested in River.
Lamb wasn’t a complete idiot, he knew that if River wasn’t the most socially awkward human being on the planet, he would likely be able to pick up any woman he had even a passing interest in, but Sid was from the Park, and River had just had the most spectacular failure of a debut that should’ve made him the equivalent of toxic waste to anyone who had even the glimmer of a hope in hell of getting back to the good graces of MI-5, no matter his looks. Sid should’ve wanted to be as far away from River as was physically possible, but instead, she seemed bound and determined to be friends with him.
And there was only one reason for someone like Sid Baker - darling of Lady Di - to want to be friends with someone like River Cartwright.
She was gathering intelligence.
It didn’t take a genius to figure out why.
So Cartwright Junior wasn’t in Slough House because he fucked up. He was there because he’d pissed someone off. Pissed them off so badly that they had to orchestrate a massive fuck up to cover up why River was sent to Slough House.
It was almost impressive, really.
Something Cartwright did during training pissed someone off enough to get his career torpedoed before it had a chance to get going. That took talent.
