Big gigantic bear hugs! One of my big fics - in fact, the very first big multi-part, multi-chaptered fic (that started out as a prompted one-shot haha), which is not finished even now - got this one person commenting from the first part, all the way through each chapter of the second part, and then...the first chapter of part 3 got this comment from them:

"Noooo!!! I didn’t know this was an unfinished fic when I moved to this last story. I still read the only chapter available. It’s been almost 6 months since updated. I guess it’s abandoned. Well. Too bad."

I have other fics I've been writing. I co-run three bingo event groups, and I write fics for that as well. I have been relentlessly job hunting for years with little to no avail. Money stress, family stress, personal health stress, wanting to move away from a hell-state (still haven't been able to) stress. And this person praises each part and chapter until this moment, and in my comments back to this person, I'd given them the heads-up that the first chapter of Part 3 was done, the second chapter was started but not finished yet, and still...they left that comment.

It's insane how entitled some readers are. Yes, there are a lot of writers out there who'll manage to write an entire epic story from start to finish and then post each part/chapter up...once a week. Some just somehow manage to have the time to post a chapter a week that they can find the time to write that way. Not everyone can, and the readers who refuse to read WIPs or who leave asshole comments because the writers aren't finishing the WIPs fast enough for them don't seem to get it - we have to survive outside of our passion, our writing. We have to survive. They aren't paying our bills, that's for damned sure. If one of these readers - if a group of them even - wanted to drop $5000 into my account every month, I'd happily write and finish my fanfics so much faster.

Oh, what is that, readers? You don't want to do that?

Then you get what you get when you get it and not before. Don't want to read WIPs? Don't. But don't harass the writers in comments.

Easy peasy.

Let me guess. You've had people comment on your WIPs by insulting the fact that they were WIPs and that you'd abandoned them? Or something similar? I've had that happen, too, and it's like. Life happens, dear readers, and sometimes most of us just don't have the freedom to devote our entire days and nights to writing - as much as many of us would love to do just that. *hugshugs* I'm sorry you're getting hassled.

*hugshugs* OMG thank you. I wrote my first fanfic when I was 13, I'm turning 40 in a couple of months so I'm no stranger to receiving unkind, judgey comments, especially with the tropes I love to write, but some days are more trying than others. Thank you for hearing me and lending an ear to my grievances. 🥲

The first time it happened, they sure were surprised and worried but were also so relieved he was okay that they didn't give that much attention to the how and why. The second time it happened, Fury frowned. The third time it happened, Steve asked Tony to get a complete medical exam on his return. The fourth time, Natasha smiled. At the fifth time they just kept planning the movie night for the next week.

So when the two evil sorcerers that had been making the Avengers’ life hell these past few months bragged about having kidnapped one of them again for the 27th time in a row, Bruce simply asked them if Tony would be back for dinner.
