Prompt #14: Telling
Summary: M'arianni is being held hostage and beaten. Then Luc and Epohkan rescue her. There is more violence and bit more graphic than what I usually publish on this blog.
Smack! Forehand. Smack! Backhand. On the backhand the studded glove cut Arianni's cheek. Deeper each time, or maybe it has been 100 cuts coming together into one bloody wound.
A wound that getting mud into it. Arianni had fallen over on last swing of the hand, or was because she didn't have the strength to keep herself upright anymore?
"Pick 'em up." The hitting hand spoke.
Other hands were on her then. Forcing her onto her sore, bruised knees again. With her wrist tied together to her ankles, she was stuck kneeling there.
Upright again the blood and saliva she been drooling welled in her mouth, so she spat it out.
It was so dark, or her eyes were swollen shut. Didn't matter since she spat it at the hitting hand either way. Another hit. On her chin upwards. It made her teeth clack against each other. She tastes the blood at the back of her throat in a more irony flavor.
"Ready to answer the question?"
Arianni couldn't help the gurgling giggle. This isn't answer the hand wants from her.
"My employer, the man you stole from, is lost in grief over his late wife. Now, to have the only physical ties to her taken from him? That is unacceptable. I don't care who stole it, only how to retrieve it. You tell me and you can leave just a little beaten. Otherwise, we leave you in this cave to be seen as victim of the Duskwight or toss you where there is woodrot and let woodsin finish you." He allowed Arianni a minute to consider this information. Then asked, "Where is the necklace?" Arianni had the answer in the back of her throat with the blood.
The necklace wouldn't be found whole. It was set to be cut and delivered as a pouch of stones to a jeweler in Ul'dah who would rearrange it into a set for a rich, living lady. This would all been done already by Epokhan and Luc as planned depending on how long Arianni been here.
Then, those two would become the brute's targets since the jewels couldn't be retrieved. He would need to deliver the thieves. Which wouldn't include Arianni, if she walked out of her and disappeared. Leaving the keepers with the restitution or most likely retribution. Arianni only need to say the names. Give Epokhan and Luc over the brute in trade for her life.
Arianni swallows them down. Those names belonged to her. In the pit of her stomach where the fire burns. On her life those names would stay there.
Arianni uses the fire to look directly at the hand's owner through her blurred vision. "I don't know anything. Expect that lady had very good taste."
The voice sighs. The open hand is lifted again. An arrow is shot through it on the forehand swing. The owner recoils with a grunt. An arrow shot through his neck before he could make another sound.
No more asking questions for you, Arianni thought as closed her eyes to gruesome gore of her rescue.
"There you are." Epokans voice was soft. His hands were cool as cupped her face to inspect the wounds. She feels the instant relief as he cleans and heals her superficial wounds with a potion.
"Hey there Thatcher." Arianni's face still hurts, but she couldn't help a smile when she heard him. "Where is the Songbird?" "Teaching a lesson and leaving a message. For anyone that thinks of coming after us."
Arianni shudders. "Don't kill them in front of me. I want to get away from here first." Arianni wasn't one for mercenary work or murder, no matter how justified.
Epohkan carries out Arianni's request by calling his partner over.
Arianni recognizes Luc's by touch as she cuts away the restraints. "Took you long enough. Almost was worried you wouldn't come for your favorite liar."
"Don't jest right now. You're hurt." Luc lifts her in a cradling embrace. "You should have given them whatever they wanted."
Arianni leans into the other Miqo'te to rest and says, "That would be telling."

Three Cats In A Band
Epohkan the Thatcher - The Musician
Luc Lyzehbal - The Songbird
M'arianni Alha - The Dancer
At some point you’d think they would said it out loud that the love was real and the game had been won by all of them, but they didn't. Not when the twins came into this world, nor when the calamity happened. Not even when they had to their separate ways to protect themselves. Their hearts never left their small vaults, but they still had been stolen nevertheless.

Prompt #12: Quarry
The young lady approached the Keepers of the Moon with a proposal of work in dispatching some vilekin, and it would be easy enough to just take the money in a confidence trick. However, she made claims of hidden treasures in the abandon city of Gelmorra.
"... I do not mean be babbling on about history of Twelveswood to you, but it is quite interesting. Don't you believe?"
"It will believe it if have any proof on where to find these treasures."
"Well, of course. I came across this map in my grandfather's library. He is so old. He might as well be one of the first that came out from the underground, and see here this is marked as sacred place, so I believe any relics would be stored there. I plan to make a collection of the relics as I am sure I am not the only one to be fascinated by the citystate's origins. Unfortunately, my father not one of those people. He refuses to lend his men for my expedition. As a business man, he can only understand the words of money. I tell him he is inviting the wrath of The Elementals upon himself by logging. Although, without his sacrilegious lumber mill then I would not have this opportunity. It is with my allowance from him that I fund this venture, which is just enough for two guards. Are you interested?"
Epokhan's head spun by time the long-winded maiden had stopped talking. He was afraid of giving her an answer as it would allow her to start talking again.
Luc was quick on her feet and tongue. While tedious in her speech, the young lady was trusting and optimistic, so a perfect pigeon. Since Luc loved birds, she made the choice on the deal. "This sounds like a very meaningful venture, and we would please to undertake it, but sounds much to dangerous for you come along. My partner and I have to insist on half payment now, and the rest once we have returned with your relics."
"And due to danger, we will need to double the price." Epokhan added.
The girl took her head violently like a child throwing a tantrum. "No, no, no! First, I am not paying you to stand prettily while I search. I need to be able discern the relics of value. I want none of gaudy relics of any precious metals or jewels. Second, I need to see the place were my people toiled for my kind's survival under the harsh rule of The Elementals. I must go to the underground city myself. I will pay the higher price, but I can not be denied this wish."
She had more than just earnesty. She had a fire in her eye that Luc would not argue with. Instead Luc looked to her partner. If the treasure were true then they could make more profit with her along, if they weren't the couple could still rob her and leave her in underbelly of the earth on their merry way.
"Alright. We'll take the venture."
"Excellent! I am so excited! Truly I did not believe I would find a pair so brave as yourselves. Father also warned me about ... that is end of that. I will meet you both at Camp Emerald Moss on the morrow then." The young lady beamed, and sadly walked away with her full coin purse as Epokan's and Luc's stomach growled.
Epohkan, a well-learned hunter, would blame the hunger on addling his mind. No other reason would he walked into such an obvious trap.
As soon as the trio entered the underground, they were overrun. Not by seedkin or vilekin, but by duskwight bandits.
Luc held the line while he cut his way from the net. He would have thought their client lost in the confrontation as he became Luc's sole concern aside from her own life. From his hovering position though he could see maiden go from green to grey, and raided the bandit's stores appearing as bandit herself. Epokhan fell from the net, and lost sight of her. For now.
He is a trained tracker too after all. Side by side the two of them made a quick show of incapacitating the bandits to chase their quarry.
The arrow scraped the tip of her nose. It would have gone straight through her head, if the arrow had been aimed for it. She took the hint and walked backwards to face her attackers.
"What have I done to deserve this greeting?" Asked the duskwight from the keepers.
"Drop the act. We know its you." Epokhan said as Luc let another arrow fly towards the elezen.
"Oh caught on to me and my tricks did ya." A wave of the hand and in front of them was young lady over the bandit.
"Leading us to our death was the whole plan was it?"
"I haven't killed anyone, nor do I plan to. Only I thought a mob of bandits would distract you longer while I got farther away from here is all."
"Like how we were meant to distract the bandits while you stole from them."
"It it really stealing when you take from a rob-"Luc fired an ice core tipped arrow with the idea of freezing her mouth shut for good. It would be well worth the tipped arrow as to never hear the elezen's voice again.
Instead the sprite core reacted to the active glamour prism. Then, a Seeker of the Sun stood before them.
Ri'anni Tia felt naked without a glamour over her, even worse than that. She was being perceived wrongly in this very moment. After a lifetime of that, she wasn't going to take another second of it.
Arianni dropped the item she sought to activate another glamour. Then, faced her attackers anew. "That was more embarrassing than being caught in my smallclothes, so let forget about it."
The Keepers of the Moon were stunned though. Luc had lowered her bow, and Epokhan stood mouth wide.
"Why disguse yourself was a woman?" Epokhan asked
"You sound like my mother." Arianni groaned. "Because I like to, why else?"
"How does it work? Can you show us?" Luc asked.
The skill every criminal should hone is being able to find the object a person wants and promising it to them.
"Oh is dressing in eachother's clothes not fooling the amount of people you want?" Arianni found the thing that might save her life from the Keeper with the bow and arrow.
"I learned from some imps, but I can only teach you if you have the talent." She offered and waited.
The Keepers shared a look between themselves. Arianni was quite jealous of the intimacy the two shared. To know eachother's thoughts without words, that was something she could never have with another.
"We'll considered forgiving you if you teach us the way to be disguised." Epokhan started
"As if you weren't planning on leaving me there for dead either." Arianni interrupted. Luc lifted the bow again. Arianni sewed her mouth shut quick.
"But your debt is separate, and for that we will go along with to where you'll be fencing that." Luc pointed at the trinket Arianni had dropped in her desperation. Split three way the reward for retrieving the noble's personal property was going to be small, but living another day is worth more.
"Then, you will stay right by us until we've learned." Luc finished.
"Fine, but then we never speak another word to each other after."
Arianni crossed her hands to shake each one theirs, so the three shook hands on the deal.

#7: Morsel
Lucian was made to watch in pure agony as his sibling swallowed the muffin piece whole in front of him.
"Can I have just one?"
"Its all mine." Luc'a said nibbling on a honey muffin with chocolate morsels. "I told you to come with me, and you didn't."
"Druthers is too far, and I was asleep." Lucian pouted. "Can't I have even a little, little piece or only a bite?"
"Not one bite."
"Aren't I the sweetest brother in the Twelveswood?"
"Your the only brother I have." Luc'a ate another piece.
"Then I'm telling mami."
"Are you a baby? Crying for mami."
Lucian considered it for a moment. "Yeah, because you aren't sharing."
Lucien opens wide to shout, and Luca shoves muffin into his mouth.
Lucian is choking a bit as his mother walks into the hut. Luca swipes the crumbles under the table."What's going on here?"
"Nothing." Both the sibling say.
Luc Lyzehbal inspects her children closely. Crumbles on both cheeks, and bit of chocolate on their teeth. "Where did you get the cookies from?"
"What cookies?" Luc'a asks in response. While Lucian states in full confidence, "I have never eaten a cookie ever. Today."
The twins might be thieves, but they weren't liars. At least were not thieves and liars yet.

So They Went Back...
The siblings' hands felt frostbitten. How tightly they held each other's hand didn't help to warm them. Their fingers were white at the nail, their palms were clammy, and their hands cramp and ached. Neither let go. Their hands were steadfast together while their free hands trembled and shivered as they moved the bones.
Luanne and Lujain were children of hunters, so handling bones was not new to them. They crafted with bone chips to help mend weapons or to make rings, but those were animal bones. These dry bones had been someone they once knew alive. Now, whoever these bones once were, they did not know. The siblings did know that the deceased must be respected.
Winter was far off still, so the ground was soft, yet that did not make the task any less difficult. The graves were shallow and mass, but it was all the two young miqo’te were capable of. Lujain prayed for Menphina to give rest in her light as Luanne planted a lily seed for everyone in the village. For everyone they knew didn’t escape with them.
Bonus: So They Stayed...  Luc Lyzehbal entered the silent village treading lightly and unable to breath. Her children were alive, she promised herself. She could only imagine the worst had happened to everyone else, but her children were alive. Luc had been wary when she wasn’t greeted by the usual guards on the village's boundary. That wariness became dread, and that dread became sorrow. Luc’s heart was pulled into her stomach when she was welcomed by a garth of lily sprouts in the center of the village’s ruin. Luc could have died there and rotted where the village rested, but her children were alive. In the hut they called home, Luc found them. Lujain and Luanne Lyzehbal were still in their beds, but alive. The siblings were holding hands.

aberrant • departing from an accepted standard. "this somewhat aberrant behavior requires an explanation" --- "I was sent to get you!" "Say you can't find me." "I'm the best tracker, and you are the worst at hiding." There was noise in the tree of someone climing higher. "Wrong way! Come down!" "No!" "He is here for you!" There was no answer to that one or any other shouted commands after that. Not until the arrow flew by her head. "Fuck you! Are you trying to kill me?" The girl in the branches below just shrugged. "Mom says its the best way to get a bird out of a tree." "My sire can't to take me after I'm dead." The branch dipped just a bit as the keeper landed where the other was. "Want me to shoot at you again?" The keeper thought about it for a serious moment. Then, shook her head no. "Do want to get married? You'll be my wife and won't have to leave " "You think that will matter to anyone else? Everyone else here will still think of me..." the words strangled her. Her friend soothed her as she began to choke on everything. She cried on her shoulder for a long while. Once the tears dried then other keeper spoke again. "You do need to leave because somewhere away from here there will a place where no one will think you are different. And you will be happy there. There you will be happy. You'll have children and you'll be allowed to be their mother and everything will be good forever." It filled with the keeper that would be soon call herself Luc Lyzehbal such hope. She took her friends words, and left her village and believed in those words so much she made her life on the dreams those words gave her.

The Gridania (AU)
Twin Keepers of The Moon. Miqo'tes with odd eyes and infamous, wanted parents. The kittdrens of Luc Lyzehbal, Thatcher Epokhan and M’arianni Alha.  Luca and Lucian Lyzehbal are hustlers, raiders, smugglers. Anything they need to be to protect and provide for their family and home. These twins together provide a range of less than legal services, but each has their specialization. Luca prefers work which rely on his skills as a mercenary while Lucian has fun at the long game with con-artistry or high rewards heists.

A Black Cat for Good Luck Prt. 1
Tumblr media
(Next Prt Here)
A conversations with @maiden-born-in-snow  on how black cats are very underappreciated and mistreated lead me to think on how Gridania AU Luka & Luken most definitely have a black coeurl kitten.
Thanks to Avail 🌳🌳 FFXIV Write 2020 finally made we write this too.
Warnings for: Poaching and Poaching related animal abuse.
“It’s to no avail, I can not heal your mother.”  The healer faced the twins, but could not look either in the eye which didn’t matter as he heard twin growls from the shadows.
“That’s fine.” Luca stepped towards with spear in hand, “Maybe you’ll still be able to heal yourself after I’m done you.”
“No, no, no, please.” The healer threw himself to the ground.
“No is what I should have said when you guaranteed a cure!” Luca raised their spear.
“It's just I didn't know! I didn’t know that-,” the end spear was still at his throat, “-That your mother was cursed!” The spear end was withdrawn as Lucian stayed his twins hand
“Cursed?” Lucian asked with the smallest edge of hope, and the man knew he had the chance to live.
“Yes, it is no normal illness. I couldn’t heal her, and I am sure whoever came before me couldn’t as well. However, I know of something that can cure her.”
“What is it?” Lucian punctuated his question by drawing an arrow right over the healer’s head.
“A black coeurl...”
Seconds before the twins were hopeless, so at this turn Luca and Lucian were desperate enough to believe anything. Even the charlatan conjurer’s fairytale. The twins promised to let the man live if he told the tale, the myth, the legend of the black coeurl. Ever so rare now, because the coeurls were hunted for their powers to bring fortune, heal even the dead, and break curses.
That is how the twins spent whatever time Luc Lyzehbal had left in tracking a black coeurl.
After, tracking coeurl habits and witnessing many coeurl hunts, some successful, some not. The twins decided the best choice was trapping a coeurl while still a pup. Which left the twin to scout Oakwood during the prime season.
It was near that time now, the twins only had one thing to do before leaving home again.
“No te preocupes mami. We’ll bring something to make you all better.” Luca promised this at their mother’s bedside. However, Luc Lyzehbal was spending more time asleep than awake, and even when awake the pain was too great for her to even recognize her own children.
“You better take care of her old man.” Lucian warned his father warmly.
“You better bring what you promised.” Epohkan gave the best encouragement he could.
“They will. And I’ll make sure she is still here when you get back.” M’arianni took Luca’s place by the bedside.
Luca and Lucian took as much confidence as they could from the words. The twins took a last glance at their parents together. This is why the black coeurl had to exist. This is why they knew with all their hearts that the black coeurl did exist and it was Oakwood waiting for them.
The twins spent suns scouting the areas of Fool Falls and Poor Maid’s Mill. They couldn’t give up hope and they wouldn’t, but one day they came damn near close to it. Lucian had found many coeurl sized sacks housed in the mill, and on the day the twins chose not to carry it was the day they saw the black coeurl.
The twins with only a moment of hesitation moved to capture the animal. However, someone beat the twins in ambusing the animal. It was an efficient capture, but it wasn’t the twin’s.
“This will be the prized fight in the coliseum. I will make my fortune on this animal.” The man who no doubt organized this hunt laughed as the beast was at his mercy.
That laugh made Luca burn. This time without hesitation they leaped into the fray. The sleeping potion that had been meant to ensure the beast’s capture was poured over its captureers. However the sudden actions provoked the previously pacified animal into a frenzy. It couldn’t do much besides knock Luca back into a coeurl nest. Thankfully the nest was empty as Luka had been paralized by the coeurl’s sting. At least, Luca had thought the nest was empty. Out of the night’s shadow in the moonlight came out a coeurl kitten. A pure black coeurl kitten. The kitten came up to Luka and bunt it’s head against Luca. Lucian who now finished with the other captures came to check on his twin and saw the sight of the black kitten and his twin helpless to being snuggled.
Lucian laughed boisterly, it made the tied coeurl try more to free itself of the restrains.
“Oh that’s not good. Come on get up and let's take the smaller one. Much easier to carry.”
Luca glared at their brother, but agreed. The twins left the unconscious poachers with the tied coeurl as the two stole the kitten.
True to Lucian’s statement the kitten was much easier to smuggle into Griandia and back to their home. M’arianni and Epohkan were pacing around the bedside when the twins entered. Luc had not woken since the day before.
Lucian set the kitten down by his mother while Luca held their breath. The kitten settled in place the sleeping body, curled into a ball and purred. Everyone in the room felt the miracle happen with the purr. The air felt blessed.
“Luca? Lucian?” Luc’s eyes barely open, her words were weak, but it was a sign of life.
In a few suns Luc was well enough to sit up in bed. Her and the kitten were inseparable. Even now she kept the kitten in her lap.  After checking twice, Luc declared she had another son. She named the kitten Luc’li.
“We had taken you from your family, but now you’ll be part of ours.” She added and Luc’li purred in response.
Lucian caught his twin making a twisted face at the display. “Don’t be jealous Luca. You’re still the first born.”
“I’m not.” Luka huffed.
Luca couldn’t be anything, but grateful to the kitten, to their new brother.

THE PARENTS
Luc Lyzehbal . Thatcher Epohkan . M’arianni Alha
Luka and Luken’s family.
Luken’s Narrative is where the parents are involved mostly as Luka has no memory of these people what so ever. Luc and Epohkan are only mentioned in Luka’s early childhood for Luka’s Story.
I also making the other parents (Asdis’s Lalfell foster parents and QueerLightParty’s dads, because procrastination is my friend. However only these Parents are for the tag ‘The Parents’.
