Caguioa cleared from head injury but status uncertain vs Mahindra

Results of the MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan done at Cardinal Santos Medical Center Sunday night revealed no signs of head injury on Caguioa, according to Ginebra coach Tim Cone.

“Results were negative and he was sent home,” Cone told FOX Sports in a text message Monday.

Team physical therapist Aspi Calagopi confirmed the findings.

“As of last night, he is normal, no findings and complaints. His head collided with the other player and it may have hyperextended his neck but his neck and head are okay,” said Calagopi in a separate message.

Caguioa hit the back of his head on Newsome’s knee in the second period during a looseball scramble in the tightly-contested match that the Kings eventually won, 90-89.

The “Spark” was left lying on the floor after one possession before game officials seized time as the team doctors attended to the long-time Ginebra veteran star.

Cone, though, remains unsure if the 2012 PBA Most Valuable Player can play this Friday when Ginebra goes for the win and 1 of the twice-to-beat incentives for the quarterfinals against Mahindra.

“We don’t have a timetable yet on when he’ll be back,” Cone said. – Fox Sports Asia
