What’s your favourite AU that you’ve written?

My best AUs are for Philinda lol. My favourite is Committed to the Cause, a POTUS/USSS one with Coulson as the president and May as his head of security.

If you write chaptered fics, what’s your ideal chapter length to write? Is it different from your ideal chapter length to read?

My ideal chapter length to write is 4–7k, which is also about my ideal chapter length to read. Maybe my reading ideal is on the shorter end, so more like 3–5k, but gfhjsgdhs that’s not too big a difference.

Link a fic that made you think, “Wow, I want to write like that.”

There are a few that come to mind. The main ones are literally anything by @indilwenofmirkwood (but especially What Makes Her Tick, which can be read here on AO3 and here on FFN) and Kismet by @midnightlovestories (can be read here on AO3) for how they developed plot/romance, analysed my comfort character, and got some whumpy goodness snuck in there. The former is for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. while the latter is for The Addams Family.

Feel for You by @parksanddownton603 (can be read here on AO3) made me fall in love with a specific tone of AU and gave me the motivation to try my hand at writing an AU like they did (also for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). On the flipside, Defensive Wounds by @rebecca-in-blue (can be read here on FFN) is an in-universe fic but I greatly admire the characterisation in it and would love to know and honour my blorbos as well as they do. It’s for NCIS.

Another one for the Addamses, Human by @unhappychildhavingfun (can be read here on AO3) packs the kind of emotional, meaningful punch that I want my writing to throw. Though I also aspire to churn out numerous one-shots that just put my guys in situations the way @suallenparker does (if I must name particulars, the ones that affect me the most in this way have been Bulletproof, Lifeline, Safe and Sound, Liar, Mayism, Second Chances, and Being Someone Else, all for Philinda hfjsgdhhd).

And can’t play dead by @widespindriftgaze (can be read here on AO3) is…simply some of the best creative writing I’ve ever read. I love how they dabble in various, sometimes small/short-lived fandoms; I long to do that.

I am currently working (well, focusing) on A Galling Yoke, my Sherlock Holmes x Reader exes-/friends-to-lovers casefic. (It was actually supposed to be enemies-to-lovers lolol.) I’m like a third or so into Part 12, and I’ve got like seventeen chapters planned total plus an epilogue. Exciting stuff!!

“It shall not happen!”

You straightened in your seat, shoulders tensing. Sherlock groaned and dragged a hand down his face.

“I meant not to be…domineering,” he said. “But […] am I not to assume that you came here…for a reason?”

He and you looked at each other for a long, open moment.

I grabbed that out of the middle of a conversation for Maximum Suspense. I cut out […] because what I have written there currently is a bit of a placeholder. There was another part I wanted to share because it’s got a long quote from Arthur Conan Doyle’s “The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton”, but I figured that excerpt was a tad too spoilery. I’m sure you guys will prefer this romantic tension anyway. ;P

the 'confession' kiss !

This boy was shitting bricks when saw you walk in the party. He's been planning on confessing to you for a long time so he's really nervous.

Tonight was a special night, New Years. With the special occasion, he thought it would be a good time to finally make his move. You two have known each other for a while now, becoming very good friends after his release from prison again.

Now is his only chance, his only chance to sweep you off your feet for the new year.

The night only livens up the closer the clock reaches midnight and you then notice everyone assuming themselves with their respective parters.

Swirling the drink in your hand, you haphazardly look around at the crowd and then at kazutora; you've been with him all night and yet he's barely said a word to you. You've been planning on telling how you feel right when the clock strikes twelve, but with how the night has started, worry and doubt begin to claw at the back of your mind.

Any time you attempt to hold a conversation with him, it seems like he's trying to push you away so eventually you give up and just sit by his side; oblivious to the blatant nervousness practically oozing out of him,

With nothing else to do, you begin to occupy yourself with your thoughts and the new years show broadcasting onto the tv. Mid watching though, you cant help but feel someones burning gaze on you; burning holes into the side of your head.

Uncaring to who it may be you ignore it and continue to live in your own little world until you hear a very drunk takemichi yell, "10 MORE MINUTES !" before not so glamorously swaying a bit into hina's side.

Taking that as an initiative, you take a swig of your drink and attempt to lighten up with the environment; turning to speak to chifuyu and mikey, unknowing to the man desperately staring at you.

...

To you it seems like time passes in an instant because the next think you know its only 2 minutes remaining till its time.

Everyone begins to stand up in preparation and you excuse yourself to go back with kazutora. walking back to him, you both make eye contact for the first time this entire night. You notice the aura between you two is different tonight, an unusual buzz surrounding the both of you as the time progresses.

Looking away nervously, you turn to face the tv; watching the live counter go lower and lower and neither of you really speaking a word to each other.

Before another layer of tension can settle between you two, a mini-countdown begins as now, only a minute remains until the new year.

You quickly chug the rest of your drink before silently counting down with everyone, trying to get back into the moment. Mid count, you stop as again, you feel the same gaze on you, but this time it feels much more intense.

Giving in this time, you begin to look for who this person may be, only to be met with the same pair of eyes you just met with not too long ago.

You feel trapped in his gaze this time , unable to move or will yourself away from him.

He's a magnet and you got getting pulled in fast.

Too caught up in your current situation, you miss the start of the countdown to 0; your focus only on how you two were gravitating towards each other.

You come back to yourself the moment you realize how close you too are, faces now only inches apart.

"kazu.." is all you can say in the moment.

"hi." you hear him reply. almost like a whisper, you almost being unable to hear him if you had been any farther apart.

FIVE

"its been quite a year, don't you think?" , you start, trying to ease the now suffocating tension between you two.

FOUR

"sure has been" is all you hear in reply.

THREE

"im glad i spent it with you" , you continue.

TWO

"me too." is all you get in reply, kazutoras eyes all to fixed to your face rather than what you were saying.

ONE.

This time its quiet.. letting yourself revel in the moment before you tell him.

'here we go..'

HAPPY NEW YEAR.

"i lo-" is all you can get out before you feel his hands on your jaw, ambushing into a quick kiss.

Pulling back in surprise, you stare back at him with wide eyes, not knowing how to react to the sudden kiss.

Immediately you notice his expression change, going from one with a buzz of excitement to one of extreme worry and dread. Before he has any time to say anything though, you immediately pull him back into a much softer kiss, trying to convey everything you needed to say to him properly.

This time once you pull away, you look at him smiling.

"i love you." You finally manage to say, smiling wider now that its over.

"i love you too." is all he manages to say again before pulling you in again.

Maybe new years resolutions can be completed.

ok this one is like really random but you know youtube/tiktok like asmr/aesthetic housework vlogs and videos? i feel like levi would take up making them. and all the comments would be full of people saying his house looks sterile and asking for cleaning tips lol. when he does his face reveal his follower count like triples and levi is just like "oh it must be the mopping hack i posted." and you just nod in agreement bc he was rlly proud of that one.

this is entirely me feeding into househusband levi au but he is apart of the neighborhood housewife association (even if he does work) and he is beloved by everyone in it bc he always offers to clean up and makes the best tea. even if he isnt a househusband hes still allowed to join because hes really useful even if he isnt good at socializing. like people could ask for cleaning tips and stuff and he will go really deep into details.

he doesnt like to drive. would rather take public transport, walk or ride his bike, or have you drive him everywhere. i think he has a license just in case but he avoids using it as much as possible. he gets really bad road rage and it just makes him really nervous (especially if theres other people in the car). he prefers sitting in the passenger seat next to you because its really calming and he feels sort of protected. since he cant take like the train to carry all the stuff he buys from the wholesale store for his teashop you guys block out a day of you driving him there so he can buy tea leaves and napkins. if you cant drive he gets erwin to take you both and you just end up doing the heavy lifting lol.

hanji zoe:

they are like equally the worst and best caretaker ever when you get sick. like they can tell you what you have (if its not life threatening) just by looking at you and can get you all the best home remedies and medicine but theyre really reckless. they make a mess in the kitchen when they make you soup and they hold you too close and end up catching whatever you have lol.

dont go to any sort of supermarket with them. actually dont run any errands with them. you will get so sidetracked it will be awful. but hanji doesnt realize that theyre distracting you from everything so they give you puppydog eyes when youre about to leave without them so they end up coming and by the time you get to the bank its closed because you had to stop by a stream and look at turtles. eventually you learn to just do your errands on days where theyre working.

falls asleep with their eyepatch on. you asked them why once and they said its just comfortable and they've gotten really used to it. so every morning they take it off to shower and they have red marks on their face from the elastic and they look rlly menacing lolol

erwin smith:

everyone says he is like a grandpa on social media and dont get me wrong i agree! but i think he is one of those corporate professionals that posts like really cringy motivational quotes on linkedin. connie and sasha make like burner accounts and comment stupid copypastas or troll underneath his posts in the comments and he just replies with "I'm sorry, I am a bit confused. Care to elaborate? Thank you, Erwin Smith" which makes them lose their fuckin minds they find it hilarious

good at pairing wine with certain dinners or cheeses. the man can appreciate cheeseboards. i feel like he holds fancy dinner parties or potlucks that many people only come to for good wine. when eren or jean need to take a fancy bottle for some occasion like meeting their s/o's parents or something he helps them pick something out. he also ties their ties and lends them cuff links. dad friend <3

ends up driving levi to run errands when levi's partner is not available. they hang out a lot so they kind of like coordinate times to go grocery shopping or get some new furniture together. they get mistaken for a couple a lot and when people ask if they are he just goes "No, I have a very beautiful partner who I love a lot!" and levi just rolls his eyes lol

-Just when I thought Skye and FitzSimmons can have some old-time fun FitzSimmons started to have an argument about Skye

-Coulson is really sending Skye away huh

-So now agent 33 can change her face to whoever based on a picture

-that is very useful for spies and I don't know why Hydra don't use it all the time lol

-This arc between agent 33 and Ward is just recycling actresses now

-Seeing Skye's face with another voice is so strange

Just read one of the fics you recommended to me ( Last November ) and I have to say, my heart was not just stepped on, but ripped, body-slammed, burned alive, and ran over. I could not stop crying during those emotional scenes oh my poor babies.. even the smut couldn’t fix my broken heart, that fic was personal 😭💔

I’m pretty sure some of us need a friend group like yns, they’re all so caring and their positive messages made things so much more better ❤️ and gosh I especially need a friend like jimin, needing someone to fucking claw on somebody that hurt me ( just like ever other jimins in fanfics 🤔 )

okay this ended up soooo long so i'm giving a tl;dr review here and if anyone cares to read my insanely long thought dump you can feel free. this part is spoiler free also!!

cons: i think they should have further developed the s1 storyline rather than conjuring up an entirely new treasure and conflict; i don't think they did the characters justice a lot of the time, particularly kie and jj; too much yelling and running not enough hanging out; the finale cliff hanger was a stupid writing choice

pros: cleo!!; pope-centric plotline!!!; amazing jjpope moments in the improv sequences; never a boring moment; rafebarry oh my god????; neck kiss shirtless wrestling holding hands standing unnecessarily close jjpope rot; just a straight up nine hour long adrenaline rush and i love that shit.

overall: i definitely did not like it more than s1, but i still REALLY loved it. i think it's worth the watch, just don't go into it expecting good writing or realistic injuries or a comprehensive plot LMFAO. what saves the season is the pogues' chemistry and their improv sequences, for real. and cleo. you WILL get angry about the shitty script and characterization if you’re really invested in that part of things, but as far as vibes and dopamine high it was awesome. it was a fun watch and i'll definitely rewatch at least once to soak it in properly

most of this review is going to be criticisms tbh so sorry for that but this show kinda sucks (affectionately<3)

i thought season 2 was an absolute TRAINWRECK as far as writing goes. jonas pate was basically like. this season we're going to have an even BIGGER and BETTER treasure!!! but the exact same thing is going to happen. like. we already had gold. and that's what they were going to the bahamas for at the end of season 1 for anyway????? it would have been so easy to just develop the original storyline further, i just cannot figure out why they would completely abandon it for another mediocre storyline. (i LOVED that this other mediocre storyline was pope-centric and the main character energy he was given this season. but. they. could have done that?? with the first storyline?????)

i hate that they brought big john back so so much. SO much. literally it was the stupidest most idiotic lazy cheesy plot choice in the world. it doesn't make sense, we like saw his literal bones at one point like his lifeless corpse, and WHY would they bring back a key character from the PREVIOUS ARC when they created an ENTIRELY NEW CONFLICT AND PLOTLINE FOR THIS SEASON???? jonas pate stuck it in for shock value and cliff hanger in hopes of securing a season 3, and i hate him for it. he's such a terrible writer white men have it so easy

someone in the neck kiss truthers discord earlier pointed out that jb's dead father returning after like a year and a half of thinking he was dead would probably be more traumatic that healing at this point, and i agree so much. also, you know that they're not going to use it for good either way. they're going to use his dad coming back as a way to further traumatize him somehow because obx writers are jombeephobic. and i wouldn't put it past them to bring him back just to kill him off again. jonas pate wants to write john b torture porn and i am TIRED of it

my least favorite thing about season 2 was the characterization. they really did just disregard the characters they created in season 1. kie was completely ooc for like three episodes, and it wasn't because she was mourning. it was just shitty writing. she had no character outside of her relationships this season, which has been my fear from the very beginning and why i have never wanted kie with any of the pogues. season 2 diminished her character to the female love interest, and that just sucked so bad for her.

whether you're a jjpope or not, season 2 completely changed their friendship dynamic. the only time we got glimpses of the season 1 jjpope dynamic was in the improv sequences when rudy and jd took it upon themselves. also during their hugs LMFAO. which is also an acting choice. the writing completely disregarded their friendship and dynamic. it was weird as fuck it was all weird. i also hated that kie and sarah's scripted interactions were just them talking about boys. another case of friendships again being completely disregarded for the cishet relationships. 

i just really feel like all of the characters were handled poorly this season, which is crazy because literally ALL we asked for was backstory and character development and pogue screentime. but jonas pate instead decided to write ten episodes of nonstop running and yelling and fuckinf adrenaline, with an ooc script. for funsies

i feel like the magic of season 1 was lost. the vibe of season 1 that makes it so comforting and rewatchable and lovely is sort of just lost in all the silly plot. we see snatches of it here and there, but they feel crammed between unnecessary action scenes and stunts and shouting when we would have been happy with ten episodes of the pogues hanging out in each other's bedrooms.

NOW IM GOING TO TALK THINGS I LIKED OKAY OKAY

i seriously DID love watching it. we pulled an all nighter in the neck truthers discord and binged the entire season and the adrenaline of that kept me going for the rest of the week. it was literally fucking insane absolutely batshit and i LOVED it. the writing was horrible but like. it's obx we know it isn't good LMFAOO. it's part of the charm

i definitely don't like it more than s1, but i did still like it a lot. i LOVED how pope centric it was, like he fr had such main character energy this season and it was wonderful. even though the storyline was weird and didn't make sense jd did so well lolol he did so wonderfully. i loved seeing pope get the attention he deserves this season.

JJPOPE MOMENTS. i was definitely sad they didn't have an arc to themselves like they did season 1, but oh my god jd and rudy FED US with jjpope improv moments this season. the NECK KISS? the WRESTLING? every single one of their hugs?????? they're insane. it sucked that they really didn't have any scenes alone but we take what we can get.

SPEAKING OF GAYS LET'S TALK ABOUT RAFEBARRY. because?? oh my god??? first season it was like a crack ship and then season 2 came out and... what are we supposed to do ignore it? they are literally??? gay????? it's jarring they're insane. i am so so invested in them it's kind of unreal how deep i got into this ship in such a short amount of time (follow @rafebarry babies <33)

cleo. i love cleo. the best new thing to come out of this season for sure. clarah is coming strong i can feel it and i am SO ready. i know that they're most likely going to move toward a cleopope romance next season, which i don't hate? i'm bothered only because a) it's obvious it's mostly being done to get pope out of the way for jiara, and b) i think people often push two dark-skinned characters into a ship just because they're both dark-skinned, and that yucks me out. but i will say i really liked their moments together in s2 and i think they could be really good together if they're canon s3 (which they probably will be.)

overall like. it was a fun watch. i retained like 2% of the plot i was just there for the vibes and dopamine high and that was totally fine. i want to take the pogues out of jonas pate’s greedy little white man fingers and give them the character and relationship development they deserve, but we can’t have it all i guess. the cinematography this season i think i liked better than season 1, wasn’t a huge fan of that weird yellow filter tho. also the lighting. obx lighting guys get demoted challenge. umm yeah season 1 supremacy but season 2 had amazing vibes
