With Le Mans Ultimate coming out today, now is a good time to see what I did while waiting for it to come out. The last time the Le Mans 24 Hours had its own dedicated game, we got some very different versions across consoles and console generations.

So to celebrate the centenary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, I looked at the PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 versions of what we North Americans called Test Drive Le Mans but the rest of the world called Le Mans 24 Hours on this episode of RETRO Versus!

Acabo de leer sobre el drama en Le Mans 24 este año #LM24. Seguimos en modo de coche de seguridad mientras el Proton LMP2 se retira, y no sé ustedes, pero yo siento como si esta no fuera la forma de disfrutar plenamente de una carrera tan histórica y emocionante. Ahora, no es ninguna sorpresa que las carreras dependan en gran medida de la seguridad. Después de todo, estamos hablando de velocidades increíblemente altas, maniobras arriesgadas y maquinaria pesada que podrían ser letales si algo sale mal. Yo entiendo eso, y también sé que el coche de seguridad tiene un papel esencial en esta ecuación. ¿Pero cuánto es demasiado? Desde mi perspectiva, estamos llegando al punto en el que la seguridad está eliminando la emoción real de la carrera más que proteger a los pilotos. No me malinterpretéis, estoy a favor de mantener a nuestros pilotos sanos y salvos, pero hay que recordar que las carreras están pensadas para ser una competencia, una prueba de habilidad y pericia, y si el coche de seguridad domina el evento, bueno... eso diluye la esencia misma de lo que significa una carrera. Los equipos de Le Mans son los mejores del mundo, poseen una maestría increíble y una dedicación inquebrantable para convertirse en los mejores de sus respectivas disciplinas. Merecen luchar en condiciones de igualdad sin que el coche de seguridad se convierta en el actor principal del espectáculo. Esto no es jugar a los coches, amigos. Estos pilotos y equipos trabajan durante años para este único evento. Entrenar, practicar, invertir, todo para un solo fin: demostrar su habilidad y velocidad en Le Mans. Por tanto, cuando el coche de seguridad se convierte en un player habitual, en lugar de un recurso necesario, siento que se lo está robando. Está robando la recompensa justa a su duro trabajo. Por eso, creo que debería haber un replanteamiento sobre cómo y cuándo se utiliza el coche de seguridad. ¿No sería más emocionante si se limitara su participación a situaciones realmente críticas y no a cada pequeño incidente? Ahora, aquí viene mi comentario ácido para remover el avispero: la dependencia obsesiva del coche de seguridad está matando el alma de las carreras, y es hora de que tomemos un paso atrás. Y es probable que si se siguiera utilizando de manera excesiva, acabaríamos con una versión diluida de lo que las carreras solían ser. Habría controversia, ¿no? #Petrolheads Las carreras son peligrosas, sí, pero también lo es el espíritu competitivo humano. Siempre estamos buscando formas de marcar territorio, de ser más rápidos, de llegar más lejos en prueba de nuestras habilidades y resistencia. Eso es lo que hace de las carreras algo tan apasionante. Recuerden, esta es solo mi opinión, ¡pero me encantaría escuchar la suya! ¿Están de acuerdo conmigo o creen que estoy malinterpretando la situación?

As Verstappen has expressed serious interest in WEC/LM24 and Red Bull have so much invested in him and considering the apparent popularity of LMH class it would be interesting to see them compete in endurance racing.

Anyway, we hypothesised and agreed that an LMH RBR team of Verstappen, Vettel and Ricciardo would be tight af

i would LOVE it if redbull started participating in le mans, it would make a lot of sense for them too seeing that le mans have been going up in popularity the last few years with more teams joining the hypercar category

Max is a 100% gonna participate in le mans sooner or later, I'd bet anything on that, and I've wanted Seb to give it a go for the longest time, if they partnered up I would probably cry of joy lmao they did joke about participating in le mans during that interview with servus a few months ago 👀

I really just want Seb and Max to race together, and I'd say Fernando just for the laughs and iconicness of it all, although by 2028 who knows where he'll be lol
