Saudi Arabia-Lisun engineers install LSG-5000CCD LM-79 Type C Moving Detector Goniophotometer
The Saudi Arabian customer is a well-known local third-party testing laboratory that provides a wide range of testing services. This client also has a laboratory in Guangzhou. It mainly provides testing services for the lighting industry and electronic equipment in accordance with the requirements of the Saudi Standardization, Metrology and Quality Organization and the Gulf Certification Center for lighting and electronic industry. The customer is our VIP customer and has purchased equipments in our company many times before. This customer previously purchased 12 sets of equipment from our company, such as SY2036 Aging and Life Test Rack and LSRF-2 Lamp Start, Run-up time and Flicker Test and other equipments. Customers were still very satisfied with our products and after-sales service. Later, the customer wanted to expand their lighting test capabilities. After their engineers communicated with Lisun's engineers to confirm a series of questions about the darkroom laboratory, we recommended the LSG-5000CCD LM-79 Moving Detector Goniophotometer (Mirror Type C) according to the customer’s budget and requirements.  Finally the customer ordered two sets of LSG-5000CCD LM-79 Moving Detector Goniophotometers (Mirror Type C) in our company. One set was kept in their Guangzhou ‘s laboratory and the other was kept in their Saudi’s laboratory.
We arranged the productions soon after receiving the customer's order. While we were producing the equipments, our engineers designed the darkroom drawings according to the darkroom dimensions provided by the customer. After customers decorated the darkroom according to our darkroom drawings, their equipments were also completed. Our engineers first went to their Guangzhou laboratory for installation and training. After Guangzhou schedule finished, our engineer immediately went to their Saudi laboratory for installation and training. Because we have cooperated with this customer many times before, the installation and training operated smoothly and was completed quickly. The following were the photos taken by Lisun's engineers in the customer's Guangzhou ‘s laboratory and Saudi‘s laboratory:

How LM-79 testing can help assess LED luminary quality and performance?
We all believe in buying quality products. Discovery of LED is boon to our world. LED has replaced all the traditional lightning systems because of its quality, life and performance.  Manufacturers are switching from manufacturing traditional lightning to produce LED lighting. Many of the manufacturers are making unsubstantial claims regarding colour quality, luminous flux (lm), efficacy (lm/w) and general quality. This can Lead to LED degradation. To ensure quality, a series of test has to be performed on LED luminaries for its long term survival. This is served by LM 79 testing Lab method. It is not only the LED but the whole SSL has to qualify all the tests.

4.Efficacy (lm/watt)
5.Chromaticity
LM-79 Scope
Applies to LED-based products incorporating control electronics and heat sinks, that is, those devices that require only AC mains power or a DC voltage power supply to operate.
Absolute Photometry Basis
LM-79 requires complete luminaire testing
Traditionally, photometric evaluation of lighting products is based on separate tests for lamps and luminaires ("relative")
For SSL products, LED lamps typically cannot be separated from their luminaire because of heat effects ("absolute")
Relative vs. Absolute Photometry
Relative testing – Lamps of interest and luminaire (with reference lamp) are measured separately. Then the actual light distribution and intensity of the complete luminaire of interest is derived by normalization of the test data
Absolute testing – The actual light distribution and intensity of the luminaire of interest is measured directly from the complete luminaire.
Why KC India Test Lab is Best for  LM 79 Testing Lab?
LM 79 testing lab provides a snapshot of performance under specified operating conditions at some point in the life of a product, usually, at the beginning of the operation, these are referred to as initial measurements. It never addresses permanent ratings, changing performance over time e.g., lumen maintenance, or LED case temperature.
The LM 79 methods are really applicable to integrated LED products, such as luminaries and replacement lamps. It is not applicable to LED packages, modules, or arrays
LM 79 is the method for testing electrical and photometric measurements of SSL products.
LM 79 contains procedures for performing reproducible measurements of LEDs properties, including total flux, electrical power, efficacy, and chromaticity.
The scope of LM 79 Testing Laboratories applied to LED products that incorporate control electronics and heat sinks. This covers complete LED luminaries and integrated LED sources. It does not include bare LED chips or LED-based products without a light source.

Can we use LMS-6000 portable CCD spectroradiometer to test luminous flux lumen?
With the rapid development of LED lighting market, the competition becomes more and more intense. So more and more LED lighting manufacturers began to focus on the quality of their products in order to gain a greater share in the market. Thus, LED lighting test instruments became the indispensable equipment. On the LED test equipment, there are goniophotometer, integrating sphere, spectroradiometer, LED driver power tester, EMI & EMC test equipment, and IP waterproof, dustproof environmental test chamber and so on.
And goniophotometer, integrating sphere and spectroradiometer is the most common and also basic equipment, mainly used to test the LED luminaires photometric, colorimetric and electrical performance, such as lumen (luminous flux), luminous intensity distribution, luminous efficiency, correlated color temperature, color rendering index, voltage, power and other basic parameters. However, due to the price of these equipment is not cheap and it requires a certain size of the laboratory, many small and medium-sized manufacturers or companies that started LED industry turned to seek portable test equipment, such as LMS-6000 Portable CCD Spectroradiometer. There are various kinds of portable spectroradiometers on the market, with elegant appearance and built-in high resolution LCD display, and even can be as smart as the phone. But is it really capable of testing lumens?
Many portable spectroradiometers claim to be able to test the lumen value of LED lamps. However, according to the standard IES LM-79-08 Electrical and Photometric Measurements of Solid-State Lighting Products, in Section 9.0, it states that the total luminous flux (lumen) of the SSL product should be measured using an integrating sphere system or goniophotometer. As for which method to use, depending on the size and shape of SSL products, and whether needs to measure other parameters such as color, luminous intensity distribution and so on. In general, the integrating sphere system is suitable for testing integrated LED lamps and relatively small LED luminaires (refer to Section 9.1.2 about the method for measuring the size of SSL products measured with the specified size of the integrating sphere) total luminous flux and colorimetry. The integrating sphere system has the advantage of fast measurement and no darkroom, and the result of the total luminous flux is a relative value because the final measurement result is calculated by comparison with the reference standard. Goniophotometer is usually used to measure luminous intensity distribution, and then resulting total luminous flux, thus it is an absolute value, and the measurement results are more accurate. It can measure the total luminous flux of not only small SSL products but also relatively large (as opposed to traditional fluorescent lighting) SSL products. Goniophotometer needs to be installed in the usual temperature control of the darkroom, to avoid the measured light source to absorb heat and other stray lights’ reflection to affect the measurement results.
Therefore, theoretically using a LMS-6000 Portable CCD Spectroradiometer to test lumen is not feasible, because the lack of the corresponding test environment, the measurement results will be a great error. In order to fulfill customers’ requirement of testing luminous flux (lumens) with limited budget, Lisun developed an economical compact integrating sphere spectroradiometer system, to provide customers with the best solution. The LPCE-3 CCD Spectroradiometer Integrating Sphere Compact System integrates the equipment and cabinet into ALL-IN-ONE, so there’s no need to install, and it is more convenient and easy to operate. Also it saves a lot of space. The sphere can be dismantled into two parts, which is easier for transportation, especially at offices or laboratories with smaller door sizes. In addition, this integrating sphere comes with a removable test holder base inside, and it can withstand 20kg weight. Also, it can install and replace different light fixtures for measurement according to different types of light sources, which is very simple and convenient, please refer to the following figures.

How to test LED fixture for startup, rise time and flicker
In recent years, the LED market has been expanding, which is attributed to the unique characteristics of LED solid-state lighting products, such as good luminous efficiency, long service life and high reliability .Therefore, LED solid-state lighting products are increasingly favored by the market and consumers. But at the same time, because of the fast response speed of LED and the lack of thermal inertia and afterglow effect of traditional lamps, the LED is deeply affected by the current fluctuation, which directly affects the output of light flux.
The flicker of light source is the external reflection of the change of light flux. Therefore, the flicker of LED lighting products has attracted people's attention. In this regard, on December 14, 2012, the European Union (EU) officially issued regulation NO. 1194/2012 in its official gazette, "implementation details of directive NO. 2009/125/EC of the European parliament and the European council on ecological design requirements for directional lights, LED lights and related equipment". According to the European commission (EC) regulation NO244/2009 issued on March 18, 2009,the European parliament and the European council directive 2005/32/EC on the implementation of ecological design requirements for nondirectional household lamps, so far the eu has formed a complete mandatory ecological design requirements for LED lamps. Start-up time and rise time, as two indexes of functional requirements, are paid more and more attention by manufacturers in the industry.
We just talked about the flicker effect of LED lighting, but most of people don't know what it means. The essence of light source flicker is the fluctuation of light flux. Driven by ac or pulse dc, the light flux, illuminance or brightness of the light source change correspondingly with the periodic change of current amplitude. Human eyes and human brains react subjectively to this change. Usually, Flicker can be divided into Visible Flicker and Invisible Flicker according to people's feelings. When the frequency is more than 100Hz, the human eye cannot feel the flicker phenomenon, but it will still cause eye fatigue, headache, etc. This is the yan shan effect, which is generally believed to exist within 500Hz. For this purpose, ENERGY STAR lamps V2.1 draft 4 specifies the conditions for flickering used for all lamps and lanterns in the dimming performance requirements.
The allowed range of light source flicker is:
1. The frequency is not less than 120Hz; 2. F1<0.001 X frequency within the frequency range of 120hz-800hz 3. There is no requirement for F1 when the frequency is greater than 800Hz; 4. If the frequency is uncertain, PF<30%; In addition, the output frequency of compact fluorescent light should be 20-30khz, or greater than 40KHz.
The essence of light source flicker is the instability of light flux. When detecting the fluctuation of light source with time, the change curve of brightness can be tested, and the change curve of light flux or illumination can be tested under the same conditions. ENERGY STAR (V1.0) specifies the measurement requirements of flicker:
1. Power supply and measuring instruments shall meet LM-79-08 requirements; 2. Multi-channel oscilloscope with storage function, and attenuation probe can be added when necessary. The sampling rate is greater than 2kHz and the sampling time is greater than 100ms. 3. Photometric probe, V(in)correction, and the corresponding time should meet the requirements; 4. For absolute photometry :to measure the absolute value ,a sphere of integration Is required; For relative photometry: ensure that the detector is able to measure relative light output and only receives light from the light to be measured. 5. Before measurement, the compact fluorescent lamp shall be aged for 100 hours, and it shall be preheated before measurement. LED lights do not need to be old, the ambient temperature is 25+/-5 degrees.
In order to meet the EU Erp energy efficiency index requirements, as well as IEC60969 S self-ballasts for general lighting safety requirements and energy star requirements, LISUN developed LSRF-3 lamps start, rise time and flicker test system, in order to meet the LED lamps start time, rise time instrument strobe flash test requirements.
