By • Olalekan Fagbade INSECURITY: University management bans tinted-glass vehicles on campus The management of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS) has imposed a ban on tinted-glass vehicles from entering into all the school’s campuses as part of measures to curtail the menace of insecurity. The varsity management disclosed this in a statement issued and signed by the university chief security officer, Col AV Gwandu (rtd), on Thursday. Recall that unknown gunmen attacked Bakin Gulbi, a village close to the university community on 17th November, where one person was killed and several others injured. This came after suspected thieves launched an attack on the school mini-market and carted away properties belonging to shop owners. “This is to inform all staff, students and the general public that, in consideration of the prevalent security situation in the country and the need to enhance the security and safety of the staff, students and all other persons having any lawful activity within the University, the University Authority has deemed it necessary to adopt and impose additional security precautionary measures in all its campuses,”the circular reads. “To this end, the University has decided to impose, and hereby imposes, BAN ON ALL TINTED-GLASS VEHICLES Within all its campuses.” “The University Security Division has been directed to ensure that no vehicle with tinted glass, henceforth, is allowed to go beyond the Bilya Sanda Gate, the llela Gate or any other entrance into the University Main Campus. Similarly, no such vehicle shall be allowed into the City Campus of the University.” The circular added that: “All Staff, Students and the General Public are hereby put on NOTICE that the BAN is with immediate effect. The cooperation & compliance of all and sundry are hereby solicited.”

Today’s LLELA Photo - Bushy Bluestem Grass in Winter This native, ornamental grass can be found in moist areas with full sun. It was growing nicely in the river bottoms near the Lake Lewisville dam. I was curious about its name and learned in spring and summer months, the stalks of the wild grass are indeed bluish-green. Bushy Bluestem grows 2-6 ft tall and, as shown, produces cottony tufts of “flowers”upon copper-turned stalks in the fall. The grass can be found in nurseries if you’d like to plant it in boggy areas of your property. The fall/wintertime stalks are often harvested for autumn floral arrangements. Ademáis disto, á Xunta non lle chegou con recortar cinco, dez, ou quince profesores este verán en numerosos centros galegos, porque volve ao ataque coas ameazas directas de recortes! O dereito á educación e o dereito ao traballo son dereitos fundamentais, pero na educación pública, onde a maioría das traballadoras son mulleres, os recortes nos últimos dez anos foron constantes e sistemáticos, o que dificulta aínda máis que academos a igualdade mediante a participación das mulleres no mercado laboral, grazas ao acceso a un traballo decente. Falta persoal para atender aos nenos con máis dificultades, e persoal especialista, e isto, xunto co efecto da pandemia, está afectando negativamente a moitos nenos que terían que ter adquirido determinadas habilidades básicas este ano. Por non falar da cantidade de escolas que se están pechando, e da supresión de determinadas materias nalgúns centros. Para que escoiten ás mulleres e ás nenas, sería necesario incrementar a nosa presencia política, para que se tomen decisións e se fagan políticas que aborden as nosas necesidades.
