I'm sorry but I'm dying at this being framed like it's horrible:

More trains are good! Less emissions, less traffic, more mobility for everyone (disabled folks benefit highly from accessible public transport, for one group of many)...
Anyway, here's the actual feasibility study from Amtrak, the MTA, and New Jersey Transit on increasing capacity at New York Penn Station. I can think of something else that should be done but it's over 60 years too late to do it,* so this is the next best thing.
*I will never be over what happened to the original Penn Station. It's a huge chip on my shoulder and the fastest way to get me violently angry.

LIRR ran four of these little hirail VW Transporters back in the 1960's -- basically for less cost and hassle than a Fairmount Speeder and just as good on gas...

Came equipped with a homemade pintle jack turntable for fast U-turns! Seemingly the track maintenance crews, who called themselves the Cockney slang "Gandy Dancers" lovingly called this versatile little Volkswagen Transporter a "Gandyvvagen"

After almost six months of work, I'm proud to finally present my integrated commuter rail map of New York City and Philadelphia!
Showing five different commuter rail systems (CT Rail, Metro-North, LIRR, NJ Transit, and SEPTA), this map depicts everywhere a passenger can get to by train from NYC or Philadelphia without using Amtrak.
This is by far the most complicated map I've ever made, but I'm incredibly happy with the result! I'm planning to write some notes on the process of making this, but for now, I'm just proud that it's finally done.

LIRR 226, Holban Yard, Queens, NY
On a hot and muggy summer evening three Long Island Railroad C420's are pulling out of Holban Yard for the evening turn to Fresh Pond Jct.

These days, I mostly spend my time flipping the bird at Long Island Railroad trains, or at the LIRR, as an abstract entity.
Here I'm giving the finger to Jamaica Station.

theres a bit of grafitti up on a rooftop near jamaica station that says "when the dark turns to day and i have no say" its been there for Years. something like 3 million people have probably seen it at this point. i don't hate grafitti. like i get the vibe, a lack of control. but who ever had a say in linear time. why say that in particular. and more surprisingly, why has nobody else touched the area since ~2021? it's an otherwise blank white wall, close to the train tracks and yet a place where you wouldn't be hit by a train. it could be that the grafitti was done in 2020, the trough of commuter ridership, the least number of witnesses, etc. maybe it was calculated. but it's odd for sure. seems like nearly free real estate. the next 20 feet have someone practicing the same small tag over and over. could be the same person.

Cataloging at this job is so much fun for me. It's also a chance to flex because I get to show off my ability to identify specific steam locomotives down to their class and number.
The collection I'm working with is great because the railfans whose photos these were labeled every locomotive and car they had the information for, and from that, I can extrapolate the class and Whyte notation. It's such good enrichment for me.
I have also developed a fondness for the PRR/LIRR's G5s via this project. They're lovely beasts. There are three survivors of the class, one PRR one and two LIRR ones (the latter two of which are both prominently featured in this collection). The PRR one is at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, and to give you an idea of how big these things were:

I know that "a train every twenty or thirty minutes" is still better than most of North America
But I'm nonetheless a little bitter that it's not the 10-15 minutes of the 6-7am section of the schedule
