Thermoelectric effect between two liquid materials observed for the first time

A trio of physicists at Sorbonne Université, in France, has observed a thermoelectric effect between two liquid materials for the first time. In their study, published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Marlone Vernet, Stephan Fauve and Christophe Gissinger put two types of liquid metals together at room temperature and subjected them to a heat gradient. Scientists have known for many years that thermoelectric devices can convert thermal energy into electricity and vice versa. Such thermoelectric effects have been seen in the interfaces between two solids and between solids and liquids—but until now, never between two liquids. In this new effort, the researchers built an environment conducive to such an event and tested it in their lab. The environment consisted of a cylinder with another smaller cylinder at its center. The researchers poured liquid mercury into the outer cylinder and then poured liquid gallium on top of it. The gallium floated because it was lighter. They then added a chilling device to cool the outer walls of the outer cylinder and a heating device to warm the walls of the inner cylinder.

What's one gem that hasn't appeared in the show that you think could have a cool design based only on the irl gem?

On my personal opinion-

Mercury. Metal liquid

And it bothers me that SU artists imagine it as insert gem with common body type that has the hability to turn into liquid. C'mon, they're aliens, what are you doing!

Give it more weird shapes! Mercury is danger? Then give it claws! Is it liquid? Give it some permanent liquid-like property while making it an hability. Make it a menace!

Gemstone? Liquid. That's the hair, they can retract into their hair at any given moment. Mercury is toxic. That's already bad for gem society.

Eyes? Same color as her hair. She can expand them since it's well, liquid. She can use her "hair" to form weapons, tools, etc. Hell if given the chance she could regurgitate mercury too. Make a gem burn.

Yeah yeah mercury isn't technically a gem, it's a metal. If Bismuth exists she can join the party too.

as i’m procrastinating some designs for the main players in diane’s dimension, here are some of her inter-dimensional gaggle of children!

around 6 years into her time as a dimensional traveler, diane set up a rest stop of sorts (that became her home) at the outskirts of the nightmare dimension for anyone who finds themselves suddenly forced out of their home dimension, or in urgent need of supplies

however, whenever a child finds themselves in that position, diane takes it upon herself to watch after and take care of them, even refusing to take bounties unless absolutely necessary, until they are old enough to decide for themselves if they want to stay or leave - these three are the ones who choose to stay

furthest left is Hg80, from a dimension where people are made out of elements from the periodic table (diane’s nickname for them is hattie)

in the middle is charlie simmons, an outcast from the finger dimension after being born with syndactyly (hence why he wears gloves)

and furthest right is velquus caballissi, from a dimension where the most intelligent species are dinosaur-horse-bug-adjacent, and who fell into the nightmare realm just after hatching
