Since Orion is a journalist in this AU there are a few instances where his newspaper articles and blog posts are shown, and my friend and I loving formatted all the sections to imitate websites and whatnot down to sharing buttons and comment sections. Def one of the most hilarious parts of the book imo, I love them sm. Thank you best friend [Name Redacted] for writing this book for me, I love it sooooo much! You *get* Orion like noone else ;w;

one of the only mashups i successfully guessed!! and one she repeated... false god and slut are both in my top five on their respective albums (false god is #1 on lover for me, i adore that song) so this actually killed me both times it happened

sonically, there's something so dreamy and sensual and a little sad about both of these songs and in completely different ways - false god feels deeper, more insistent, more mature. slut is very very clearly lighter & younger. the hurt in it is sharper. they also occur at different points in a relationship, because slut is the weighing of consequences, the before, while false god is a retrospective on a similar situation/feeling

and yet! there's this underlying battle that they have in common, between confidence and fatalism. in slut, she says 'you're not saying you're in love with me, but you're going to' while being very aware of the space between them, 'i'll pay the price you won't'. she decides that the trade-off is worth it, but it's a choice that he will never have to make and ultimately, can't really understand the weight of

the verses of false god depict a tumultuous relationship. he shuts her out, she pushes him away, but they always seem to fall back together. it is SHOCKINGLY similar to the back-and-forth of 1989, always wondering what he's really feeling, with the same assertiveness of 'i'm new york city, i still do it for you'. it's distinct because she can admit, now, that it's just blind faith
