jack’s items

hello!!!! ummm here is a lil thing i did where it’s all the items and objects I hc jack to have or that he does have, and that would be like important to him. i think im gonna do one of these for all the boys, and eventually im gonna write more in depth about the objects and memories tied to them, but here’s like the summaries: 

knife: given to him by his father. usually kept in a plain black holder that is attached to a belt, hidden by his choir robes. he takes very good care of it, and wants it to stay pristine, but over time at the island it eventually deteriorates and gets less sharp. he nicks the hilt whenever he kills a pig, and eventually adds one for when he helped kill “the beast”. he adds one before he lights the forest on fire to catch ralph. 

simon’s choir cap badge: while he didn’t treat him very kindly, jack did like simon. he was a apart of his choir, and he considered him a friend. after simon’s death, jack goes back to where they dropped off their robes and searches for simon’s cap badge. ralph sees him there and says nothing. jack keeps it very safe.

journal: at first, he got the journal to “keep track” of choir stuff, but really he just writes in it to feel important. on the island, he writes in it like a diary until the pen runs out, which is around simon’s death. he used to play tic tac toe in it with maurice and ralph. after the pen runs out, he just reads his entries from back when they were happy.

rosary: the rosary was given to him when he joined the choir. he used to pray it as a kid to ask for protection, which helped calm him when he was scared. he likes to run his fingers over the beads when he’s nervous. he doesn’t use it too much on the island, and eventually throws it into the ocean when he stops believing. 

shell: given to him by ralph, who felt bad that jack was upset he wasn’t chief. ralph gave it to him after the fire on the mountain. it fits perfectly in jack’s palm. it’s jack’s special little conch, just for him. after he hits ralph with his spear, he smashes it with a rock, as he has no need for a fake chief title when he is the actual one.

choir cap: kind of like a more angled pillbox hat. golden badge because he is the choir leader. he holds on to it the whole time he’s on the island, because it gives him a sense of control and authority. not many of the other choir boys kept theirs on, but he wishes they did because he misses the feeling of being a special group. he would never say that, of course.
