Klaus Mikaelson X Soulmate!Reader x Elijah Mikaelson Ch. 24
Word Count- 9.2k
Warnings- Swearing, mentions of death and violence, alcohol, kissing, sexual shiz, Klaus being freaky deaky (no children better be reading this)
A/n- Rebekah didn’t hook up with Damon she just hooked up with a rando after the dance!
“I’m bored,” Kol whined desperately to his siblings as they lounged in the grand living room.
Kol threw himself onto the leather ottoman, “Our sister is a strumpet, but at least she’s having fun. I need entertainment.”
Klaus narrows his eyes at his younger brother, “What are you waiting for? Go on have at it.”
“It’s no fun to go alone. Join me, Nik,” Kol leans forward with a mischievous look.
Klaus sends a bored look at him and then goes back to his sketch. Kol lets out a loud groan and stands up.
“Well, if you won’t go with me,” He taps his chin in thought, “I’m sure I can find someone to spend my afternoon with…what about that little mate of yours…Y/n, was it? Oh yes, I’m sure she’s great fun, I wonder if she’d let me-”
Kol is cut off from finishing his sentence as Klaus wraps his hand around his brother’s throat, “Finish that sentence and you’ll find yourself right back into that coffin of yours, brother. I’m sure it’s missed your company.” Kol not entirely caring for his brother’s antics, rolls his eyes, “Joking, brother,” Kol plucks Klaus’ fingers off his throat one by one, “And as you should know, you’re mate and I are now,” Kol frowns, “What do they call it now…oh yes, besties.”
Klaus’ mood gets darker the more Kol speaks.
“That’s not true!”
Both brothers turn at the whining of their sister.
“Y/n is my best friend!”
Kol raises an eyebrow in challenge, “Really? And did she say this herself or is this another one of your delusions.”
Rebekah glares at her brother before grabbing a nearby vase and hurling it at him.
Kol quickly darts away and laughs, “Your aim is almost as bad as your taste in men sister.”
Rebekah lets out a loud whine, resulting in Klaus groaning in annoyance.
“Enough of you two,” Klaus throws himself back down onto the couch, “I’ll put both of you back into your coffins.”
“Mother would never allow that,” Rebekah says proudly as she sits on the same couch as Klaus.
“Join me, brother. It’s the least you could do after sticking a dagger in my heart,” Kol tries to reason with Klaus. Besides, are you truly going to spend all afternoon drawing pictures of your pretty little obsession?”
Klaus’ eyes narrow at his brother, but he knows he can’t deny the accusation of his current muse.
With a final sigh, Klaus stands with a sound of annoyance, “Okay. Why not? I didn’t have nearly enough to drink last night what with you trying to murder Rebekah’s date.”
Klaus strolls by both of his siblings, taking the sketchbook filled with drawings of his soulmate with him.
“Yes, please go, this house has enough men rolling around in it,” Rebekah says annoyed as Kol begins to follow his brother.
Kol turns around and smirks at his sister, “Just like you, Bekah!”
Rebekah throws her purse at him, “Good riddance, both of you.”
—
“No sir,” I try not to roll my eyes at the middle-aged man sitting at the bar in front of me, “We do not offer refunds for alcohol you’ve already drank.”
The drunk man in front of me glares, “You’re mean.”
“I’m going to be a lot meaner if you don’t pay,” I deadpan back at him and with a roll of his eyes he fishes out a stack of ones from his pocket and throws them onto the bar counter.
“Great,” I mutter as the man drunkenly stalks away.
“Rough day?” I continue to count the ones as I answer Ric, “I love working my ass off for minimum wage.”
Ric lets out a chuckle, “Ya I bet… But if anyone can handle a job like this it’s you, Y/n.”
I look up from the money, “Ya? And why is that?”
Ric’s upper lip twitches, “You spent an entire summer living with Damon, without killing him. Because of that, I'm pretty sure you could do anything.”
I ponder Ric’s comment and then nod, “I am a person of great strength, aren’t I?”
Ric chuckles and raises his drink in agreement at my sarcastic comment, “Very much indeed.”
A moment later, a dark-haired woman sits down next to Ric. A little too close for my liking. Since Jenna has gone to Nebraska or wherever the hell she and Jeremy went, I’ve been keeping an eye on Ric to make sure he stays away from other women. She never asked me to do this, but as a fellow girls girl, I must.
My shoulders deflate as a customer at the other end of the bar ushers me over. As I deal with him I keep sending glances over to Ric and the mystery woman, who appear to be in a serious conversation.
After I deal with the man, I make my way over to Ric’s area and pretend to dry some glasses. Glasses I had already dried 20 minutes prior.
“It’s impossible to know anything about whoever stabbed you,” I overhear the woman and I raise my eyebrows up in shock, “Short, tall, left-handed, right-handed, no clue.”
Why the hell does Ric keep getting killed?!?
“Well, what about my head, why can’t I remember anything about the attack?”
“Your CT scans were clear. Maybe you were compelled to forget,” THe woman answers Ric.
“That wouldn’t be possible,” I casually chime in as if I wasn’t already listening to their conversation. Both adults turn to me with confused faces, “Y’know since Ric practically bathes in vervain. He drinks it a lot…Just like his girlfriend, Jenna. His longtime girlfriend.”
The woman furrows her eyebrows and gives me an odd look and I smile at her sweetly before turning around and going back to fucking around with the glasses.
“Wait… you think the person who did this to me was a vampire,” Ric questions quietly to the rando.
“I mean it’s the only option,” She answers and I fight the urge to ask why I vampire would stab Ric when they could just bite him, or like rip his head off.
“Oh, come on now.”
Oh god no.
That British accent has me tensing my shoulders and keeping my gaze towards the wall, hoping he hasn’t noticed me.
“Let’s not go blaming the new family in town just cause you lot have got yourselves a killer at large,” I hear Klaus say to Ric and whats-her-face, “Don’t mind us. My brother and I are just here to let off some steam, right, Kol?”
Great, he brought the ankle biter.
“Right.”
Ric and the woman are silent for a moment. “Ric, I’m going to play some pool, join me,” The woman’s voice comes out urgent and I don’t have to have eyes in the back of my head to know Ric is staring at me.
“Oh, don’t fret Alaric,” Klaus’ voice comes mocking, “I’m not going to lay a finger on Elena’s little friend, go have fun with your girl.”
His words hit my heart like a dagger, weird how now I’m just “Elena’s friend” when yesterday you were pretty much confessing your heart and soul to me. Pun intended.
“You alright, kid?”
Without turning around I throw a thumbs up at Ric. After a moment I hear the screeching of two stools.
Everything is quiet for a moment.
“If it isn’t my bestie.”
Lord, give me the strength.
I slowly turn around and face the two brothers. One watching me with an amused smirk and the other…just watches me.
Klaus’ eyes seem to be marking every inch of my face and body as if he’s committing me to memory.
“Ankle biter,” I retort as I wipe my hands on my apron and begin to walk to the other side of the bar.
“Aye, where do you think you’re going,” Kol’s foxlike tone halts me, “I would very much like a drink, and my brother here…well I’m sure a drink isn’t exactly what he wants from you.”
I almost choke on my breath at Kol’s words as I turn to face him.
“Also, what is this ankle-biter nonsense? Is that some type of term friends use for one another in this century,” Kol asks as he places his chin on his hand, watching me.
“Ya, sure.”
Kol seems to be delighted with my answer as he shoots a smug smile towards his brother. Klaus doesn’t give him the time of day though as he keeps his eyes on me.
“What do you want to drink, Kol,” I take a step closer to the bar as I grab a glass for him and Klaus.
“What do you recommend, Little Doll,” Kol smiles up at me.
“Arsonic.”
A loud laugh escapes Kol’s lips, but it’s Klaus’ light chuckle that I can’t help but fall into.
“Oh, she’s funny,” Kol says excitedly and then turns to his brother, “Odd fate mated her to the boring brothers,” this finally catches a glare from Klaus and Kol turns back to me and leans over the bar, “I’m sure I can contact some witch friends of mine and get that bond switched over to me. We’d have so much more fun.”
“Brother, another word out of you and it’ll be your tongue that comes out of your mouth,’’ Klaus bites and I instantly take a step back.
My movement catches the hybrid's attention and a small frown makes its way onto his face.
Klaus’ eyes are filled with something that makes my stomach twist. I turn my attention back towards Kol who is watching Klaus and I with his signature smirk.
“You’re getting bourbon,” I tell him as I turn and grab a bottle of liquor from the shelf behind me.
“Oh, goodie! Second shelf alcohol,” I bite down on my lip to keep my laugh hidden from Kol’s sarcastic remark.
I turn back around pour the brown liquid into two glasses and then place them in front of the two men.
“Thank you, Doll,’’ Kol says cheekily as he downs the liquid in one go. He then places the glass back on the counter and uses his forefinger to tap it.
“You know you guys are going to have to pay for this right,” I tap the bottle and raise an eyebrow at both of them, “I’m on vervain so you can’t just compel me to make it on the house.”
Kol quickly flings a hand to his heart and a look of hurt comes over his face, “You would really assume such horrible assumptions of us?”
I don’t even blink as I answer, “Yes.”
Kol’s fake-hurt look instantly drops into a smirk, “And you’d be correct. Knew you were a smart one. But, don’t you worry,” He sends a glance to his brother who is still staring at me, “Elijah and this thing have already given our siblings a rule book of things to not do when it comes to you. Compelling you is number three,” Kol holds up three fingers.
I furrow my brows in confusion as I turn to Klaus who has now found interest in his still-full glass, “Rule book? And why is compulsion only number three?!”
“Oh yes, my brothers gave a whole presentation to us last night on things we’re not allowed to do,” Kol nods thoughtfully.
“Kol, I will dagger you,” Klaus’ threat comes out harsh as he glares at his younger brother.
Kol rolls his eyes and then leans back over the bar again and whispers to me, “We’ll chat later.’
“You will not,” Klaus says before downing his downing his drink.
“Unlike you, Elijah says we’re allowed to speak to her,” Kol says matter-of-factly to his brother with a smirk.
In this light, no one would even guess that these two are psychopathic vampires, right now all they’re acting like is two brothers who like to piss each other off.
“That is because of Rebekah, you weren’t a part of the pardon.”
Kol glares at his brother.
“Don’t listen to him, Doll,” Kol turns back to me, “I won’t let them separate us.”
I purse my lips, “Yippee.”
Kol’s eyes go towards his drink and I roll my own. Nonetheless, I raise the bourbon bottle and pour him another one. I turn to look at Klaus, who surprise surprise is already looking at me, and I raise the glass in question.
Klaus nods his head, “Thank you, Love.”
I pour another drink for Klaus and then place the bottle onto the counter, then turn away hoping to go anywhere but here.
“Little Doll, where are you going? Stay and chat with us,” Kol’s grating voice makes me roll my eyes.
“I’m on the clock Kol. Unlike some people,” I send looks to both of the brothers, “I actually have to work to make money.”
Kol turns to his right side and then his left, “There’s no one else here, Darling.”
I copy his movements and let outa swear when I realize that there is no one else waiting for a drink.
“Come chat with us,” Kol pulls his wallet out of his jacket pocket and places it on the counter, “We’ll make it worth your time.”
“I’m not a prostitute, Kol.”
A low growl from Klaus sends shockwaves down my spine.
“Don’t listen to the dog, Doll. And I’d never insinuate you were a lady of the night. And besides,” Kol’s smirk deepens, “I’ve never had to pay a woman to spend a night with me. If anything they should’ve been paying me.”
I watch in silent disbelief at Kol’s hurt expression as he finishes his sentence. And here I thought Theo was full of himself.
“Right…”
“Ignore him, Astin Min, it’s what all my family does” Klaus’ voice pulls my attention.
A quick look of hurt covers Kol’s face and for a moment I wonder if he actually has real emotions.
“Whatever mutt.”
Nevermind.
“Pour yourself a drink, Doll,” Kol turns to me with a smile, “On me.”
I open my mouth to reject him but Klaus speaks first.
“She doesn’t drink,” His tone comes out casual as he takes a sip of his own drink, but as his eyes meet mine I’m taken back to the night before when I told him things about myself that not even Theo knows.
“Well, that’s lame,” Kol mutters under his breath, “What else is there to do for fun around here other than drink?”
I break eye contact with Klaus and shrug my shoulders, “Pretty much nothing.”
“Then why do you live here,” Kol’s question comes off actually inquisitive, unlike his other comments.
“Ask my mother,” I mutter under my breath.
“Yikes,” Kol yips, “Are we not a fan of mummy dearest.”
I clench my fists as I think back to my mother.
“Drop it, Kol…Luv,” Klaus’ unusually soft voice sends a wave of comfort over me and I unclench my fists.
“Would you mind,” He gestures to his finished drink.
I grab the bourbon bottle and begin refilling his drink. I notice though that instead of watching my face, like usual, he’s glaring at my hand.
“Me too, Doll,” Kol chimes in, and after I fill his brother’s glass I fill his as well.
“Why do you work here,” Klaus questions.
I send him a glance and begin tapping my fingers to the song playing on the bar’s speakers, “As I said before, I need the money.”
“For what?”
I want to roll my eyes at Klaus’ questioning but when I see the honest look on his face I just shrug, “Stuff.”
Klaus’ eyebrows narrow, “Stuff? What kind of stuff?”
“I don’t know, like bills, and stuff. College savings.”
Klaus’ eyes narrow further as if he can’t grasp the concept of me having to work for this stuff, “Wouldn’t your mother be the one who pays for that stuff?”
I let out an annoyed laugh, “You would think?”
“You could quit,” Klaus’ comment makes me roll my eyes.
“Have you not been listening? I need the money!”
Klaus leans back in his chair and sends me an annoyed look, “I’ll pay for these things.”
What is up with these Mikaelsons and wanting to financially support me??!?
“You’d pay for me,” I say skeptically, “You pay my car insurance, my car payment, my groceries, my taxes, my gas, my art supplies, my college fund, Theo’s college fund,” I list off all my expenses in annoyance.
“Without question.”
I eye Klaus for any sign of a lie, but the stern look on his face tells me everything I need to know. He’s being serious.
I release an uncomfortable noise and look away from him, “Well, thanks…but I can do it myself.”
From my peripheral, I see Klaus lean in and rest his elbows on the counter, “Just because you can, Love, doesn’t mean you should have to.”
I feel a burning in my eyes as I consider Klaus’ words.
“Good lord,” Kol groans, “If I’ll have to deal with this,” He gestures to Klaus and I, “For the next millenia. Might as well put me out of my misery and dagger me now.’’
Klaus sends a dark smirk to his brother, “With pleasure.”
“Oh! I remember her from last night,” Kol points off to the distance and I follow his finger towards Caroline, who has just walked in looking quite hot, “She looks like a tasty little thing.”
Klaus spares a fleeting glance at Caroline before turning back towards me, “Have at it brother,” He mutters without a care.
“Hello, Darling,” Kol calls to Caroline who strides past both men.
Caroline stops and sends a bored look to the men. Her gaze holds on Klaus’ back and a look of annoyance passes over her face.
“Join us for a drink will you,” Kol questions her and raises his glass.
“Who’s us?”
Caroline’s words have no hold over me, but the way she keeps looking at Klaus’ back as if she wants his attention, makes an annoyance build in my chest.
My eyes dart to Klaus momentarily and I see him send me an odd look before turning over his shoulder to glance at Caroline. The blonde vampire instantly flicks her hair over her shoulder as the hybrid looks at her and I hear Klaus let out a low chuckle.
Caroline’s features instantly morph into annoyance again when Klaus turns back around to face me with a knowing smirk.
“I’d rather die of thirst,” Caroline looks at Kol, “But thanks. Bye, Y/n.”
With one last glance at Klaus’ back, Caroline sends me a smile, before pretty much stomping back outside.
“Well,” Kol turns back towards me, “Hand me that bottle, love. I’m going to go harass the locals.”
“Are you going to pay for it?”
Kol must notice my change in mood as he smirks and opens up his wallet, “Of course love. Wouldn’t want to make you mad.”
I watch in awe as Kol fishes out a handful of one-hundreds and throws them on the counter in front of him.
“Kol, it’s a $80 bottle,” I say unbelievably.
Kol just smirks and shrugs, “With the way it tastes it better be…but the rest is your tip, Little Doll,” He reaches over the counter and grabs the bottle before standing up. He then glances at his brother, “Enjoy. Talk soon.”
I watch with my mouth open as Kol saunters over to the pool table where the woman Ric was previously talking to is standing. I turn my attention to the wad of money on the counter and quickly count it.
Eight hundred dollars. That’s a $720 tip. This is more than I’ll make in an entire month…hell two months.
I shake my head in disbelief as a happy laugh escapes me.
“Now that I know money makes you do that, I’ll be sure to tip you a lot.”
I look to Klaus, confused.
“What?”
Klaus looks at me with the same heartstopping look from last night, “Your smile,” He gestures to my mouth as if it’s nothing, “I rarely see you smile like that.”
Klaus’ comment has a wave of embarrassment flowing through me, “I’m not superficial or anything,” I deny as I hold the money close to me, “It’s just that…,” I pause unsure if I should continue, “This amount of money might not seem like much to you guys, but… to me, it’s life-changing. I don’t have a trust fund to fall back on if times get tough. All I have is the money I save and with all the money I spend on bills and Theo’s sports…I don’t have much left. If any at all.”
“You don’t have to explain yourself to me, Y/n. I may have never had to worry about money, but I understand what it feels like to want something out of reach.”
I tug on my bottom lip as I nod and put my large tip into my apron pocket, “Thanks.”
Klaus smirks, “No need to thank me, love.”
I lock eyes with him and I feel a small smile making its way onto my face. Klaus appears to start to say something but the voice of a customer from the other end of the bar turns my attention.
“Of course,” I hear Klaus mutter.
I hold up one finger to the customer and then turn back to Klaus.
Klaus nods, “Go, love. I’ll be here waiting.”
—
I let out a deep sigh as I finished dealing with a rush of customers. Normally when dealing with drunk people my anxiety level is only at 100 but with the everlasting stare I felt from Klaus the entire time my anxiety is now at a whopping 100,000.
“Do you need a refill,” I finally make my way over to Klaus who hasn't moved from his chair.
“I’m alright, Love,” The side of his lip twitches as he looks at me, “I do wonder though why get a job working as a bartender when it’s clear how much you loathe drunk people.”
I bring my hand up to my neck and rub out the tension. Klaus's eyes follow my movement and his normal bright blue seems to darken.
“I um… Don’t usually work as a bartender. But, someone called in sick so I covered for them.”
Klaus’ eyes make their way back up to my face and he nods in understanding.
“When do you get off?”
I glance down at the watch on my wrist and sigh, “Thankfully, only 30 more minutes.”
Klaus seems to be happy with my response.
“Great. What are you doing after this?”
I narrow my eyes at the hybrid, “Why do you ask?”
Klaus's lips morph into a smirk and he leans back and shrugs his shoulders, “Asking for a friend.’’
I let out a small laugh, “Right, of course. Because as I know you have so many of those.”
Klaus’ eyes narrow at my jab and I laugh again.
“Tell your friend that I have a date.”
Klaus’ smirk drops.
“Who?”
Klaus’ instant change in attitude startles me. Long gone is his casual demeanor, now replaced by something darker.
“What?”
At my question, Klaus leans in and practically glares at me, “Who is your date?”
I try not to let Klaus’ attitude freak me out as I lean into him so our faces are a few inches apart, “The leftover lasagna I have in my freezer at home.”
Klaus’ face instantly morphs into annoyance, “Are you serious right now?”
I shrug, “I never joke about pasta.”
Klaus runs a hand over his face, “Y/n…careful.”
I raise an eyebrow at him, “Why?”
Klaus takes his hand away from his face and instead brings it up to run a finger along my jawline. I inhale an involuntary breath as he watches me with a dark gleam in his eyes.
“You need to be careful because if I ever do find out you were to go on a date with another man,” My breath comes out shallow as he leans in so close our noses are practically touching, “I’d find him…rip all of his limbs off and then,” His eyes trail down to my lips, “I’d ravage you in his blood. So every time after that, every time a man even glances your way…all you’ll be able to think about is the feeling of me on top of you.”
I let out a squeak. A fucking squeak.
I can’t seem to find my words, which only seems to please Klaus.
“You…you,” I try to shove away any unwanted thoughts as I look a the man before me, “You’re not allowed to get jealous…we’re not even together. Like I talked with Elijah about, we’re going to be just friends for right now.”
Klaus lets out a loud laugh.
“Friends?!”
I furrow my brows at the tone in his voice.
“Y/n love,” Klaus meets my eye, “My brother may try to fool you and himself with that silly notion, but know this…you and I,” He points from himself to me, “Will never be just friends. Friends don’t think of each other the way you and I think of one another.”
I shake my head in denial, “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Klaus tilts his head, “No? So that death glare you were sending your blood friend while she was trying to get my attention was nothing?”
God, I don’t know if I want to punch him or kiss him.
“Just to let you know though, you have no reason to be jealous. No other woman could sway my gaze away from my little muse.”
I feel my face heat at his confession and I open my mouth to try to deny him again but a piercing pain makes me release a loud gasp.
I feel my knees buckle as I clutch my heart.
“Y/n!” I think I can hear Klaus’ frantic voice but with the searing pain, it’s kind of hard to focus on anything.
I’m soon enveloped in a warm embrace as I feel hands go under my arms and my knees, bringing me into a bridal-style pose.
“I’ve got you, Love.”
I try to focus on the warmth of Klaus instead of my chest, but it’s kind of hard when it hurts like a motherfucker.
A rush of cold air hits my face, and I think we must be outside now.
“I’ve got to set you down for a moment, my love. I’ve got to go kill your friends momentarily.”
I try to open my eyes when I feel myself being placed on cold ground and I think I can see Stefan and Damon fighting with Klaus.
After a moment I feel a weight being lifted off my chest and I no longer feel the stabbing pain. Thank fuck.
“I should’ve killed you months ago,” I lift my head to see Klaus standing in front of me protectively and Stefan and Damon a few feet away from him looking disheveled. I lock eyes with Damon, and his eyes narrow as he looks at me for a moment before turning back toward Klaus.
“Do it. That’s not gonna stop Esther from killing you.”
The fuck?
“What did you say about my mother?”
I watch with bated breath as Klaus stalks toward the eldest Salvatore.
“You didn’t know I was friends with your mummy? Yeah, we have a lot in common. She hates you as much as I do.”
“Demon, you fucking idiot,” I cough out, as I try to sit up against the stone wall.
Klaus rushes towards him but is stopped by the sound of Elijah’s voice.
Yay, Lijah.
“Leave him!”
Klaus, Damon, and I, both turn to look up the stone staircase where Elijah stands.
“We still need him, Niklaus.”
Klaus takes a step closer to his brother, “What did mother do? What did she do, Elijah?”
Elijah starts walking down the stairs and as he gets to the bottom step he unbuttons his jacket and takes it off.
Why is this dude stripping right now?
“You’re shaking,” Elijah’s eyes meet mine and he reaches out his jacket for me to take. The cold look he had on his face, moments ago is gone and replaced with a sorrowful look as he gives me a once-over.
Oh. He's being chivalrous and here I’m calling him a stripper. My bad.
I reach out a hand, and as I catch a glimpse of its shaking I now just realize how right Elijah is. I try to muster up a small smile of thanks as I grab the jacket from him and place it over my shoulders. Elijah nods once before turning back and striding over the Damon.
“You tell me where the witches are or I’ll have my sister kill Elena right now.”
“What?!”
I feel my heart drop in my stomach at Elijah’s words and I push on the wall to stand up on wobbly legs.
“Elijah, what the hell are you talking about?!” For the very first time since meeting him, Elijah ignores me.
“You told me we had until after 9,” Damon says and I shake my head in confusion.
“I’m sure Rebekah would be more than happy to start her work early.’’
Elijah’s words send waves of fear through me.
A look of fear comes over Damon's face and he tries to rush past Elijah but Elijah halts him with a hand to his chest.
“And one last thing you should know. I see you have procured a center fondness for Y/n,” At Elijah’s comment Damon’s eyes meet mine, “As you may or may not know Y/n is my soulmate. As well as my brothers. With that being said if either one of us were to die…Y/n would shortly follow. Just thought you should know.”
Tears begin welling in my eyes as I watch Elijah. Damon looks at Elijah and Klaus, to see if either one of them is bluffing but when looking at both of their grim expressions he clenches his jaw. Damon pushes past Elijah, grabs Stefan, and begins to walk up the stairs. He stops though, momentarily and turns to look over his shoulder. We lock eyes and after a moment he shakes his head harshly and speeds away with his brother.
Tears stream down my face as I stare at the spot Damon was in only moments ago.
“Elskan,” Elijah’s soft voice comes from beside me and I flinch.
I take 3 large steps away and I stare wide-eyed at him.
“Do NOT come near me,” I raise an accusing finger at him and shrug off his coat from my shoulders.
“Elskan, please you don’t understand,” Elijah raises his hands and tries to step closer to me but takes another step away. He frowns at my movement but still stops moving.
“Understand what, Elijah!? That you’re threatening to kill my best friend?! Or that you’re using me as fucking leverage!”
It’s Elijah’s turn to flinch as I muster whatever strength I have left to yell at him.
“Elena is innocent! And I thought you were better than this to use my a fucking leverage against my friends!”
Elijah shakes his head, “You’re so-called innocent friend made a deal with my mother to rid my entire family of this earth.”
I shake my head in denial but Elijah continues.
“I asked Miss. Gilbert to be honest with me and she lied straight to my face. She was willing to let my entire family die, Y/n. But, I’m not. Especially when it means that you will also perish.”
“Elena would never do anything to hurt me,” I shake my head a wipe away the tears flowing down my face.
“Exactly… that is why I told Damon what would happen to you if my siblings and I were to die.”
Elijah begins to take another step toward me but he is interfered by Klaus.
A snarl leaves Elijah’s lips and I back up to the point where my back is now pressed into the wall.
“Give her space, brother,” I hear Klaus. Klaus turns over his shoulder to look at my quivering form and I see Elijah’s angry expression hinder as he looks at me.
“What the bloody hell happened?”
I whip around with teary eyes to see a groaning Kol, walk down the steps, with a look of anger on his face.
He looks at his brothers but when they don’t give him the time of day, he turns to me. His angry expression dims into confusion when he notices my tear-stained face.
“Which one of you did this?”
I’m shocked by the angry tone Kol directs at his brothers.
“Not now Kol,” Elijah glares at his younger brother, who glares back at him.
“Am I going to die tonight?” My quiet voice catches all three men’s attention and they turn to me.
“I won’t let that happen, love,” Klaus takes a step towards me but I move around him and find myself standing behind Kol.
Klaus seems hurt by my action but I honestly don’t give a flying fuck right now.
“What will happen to Theo if I die,” I feel my chest hurt as I mutter to myself. My body begins to shake and I blink rapidly as my vision goes in and out. I try to catch my breath but I think I’ve forgotten how to breathe. Oh God, I’m suffocating.
Warm hands press themselves to my face and I think I can hear Klaus’ voice through the ringing that is going through my head. Klaus’ voice is gone though as the ringing in my head gets louder and my breaths get shorter.
My breathing completely halts as a weight presses itself onto my lips.
I open my eyes and realize that Klaus is pressing his lips to mine. Again.
I’m practically knocked out of the panic attack I was in as I back away quickly from Klaus who watches my every move.
My eyes fling from Klaus to Kol who is watching the exchange with a raised eyebrow, and then I look to Elijah who now won’t meet my eye.
“Well, now that that is done…I’d like very much to not die today so let’s get this show on the road.”
I look towards Kol who eyes me for a moment before wrapping me under his arm and begins walking me up the stairs.
I go to take a step but my knees buckle and I begin to fall.
Thankfully, Kol wraps his arm around my waist and uses his strength to pretty much carry me up the stairs, “Don’t worry love. I’ve got you.”
I look up at him and find myself beginning to tear up again, “Thank you.”
Kol looks down at me and something shifts in his eyes momentarily before he looks forward and smirks, “What are friends for?”
—-
I’m now trudging through a cold, windy ass forest to go stop my soulmate's deranged mother from killing us all. Fantastic. Fuck I’m hungry.
Klaus, Elijah, and Kol walk ahead of me a few paces as I trudge behind. Kol offered to carry me the way but not wanting to feel like a damsel I denied him. Now as my aching muscles scream at me, I regret it.
Thankfully, I warm orange light can be seen from up ahead.
Elijah stops and turns to me, “You should stay here. We’ll handle this.”
I glare at Elijah and walk past him and the other two men, “Ya, because you three have been so good at handling things so far,” I spit.
I try to forget the pain as I march towards the open center of the woods where Esther stands with Finn in a circle of fire and salt.
Sigmund Freud, you would’ve loved these two.
Elijah comes to stand on my right, Klaus on my left and Kol walks behind them to stand right beside Klaus.
“My sons, come forward,” Esther says, and god I’ve never wanted to throw a punch at a woman more in my entire life.
“Stay beside me,” Finn puts his hand out to his mother and I frown at him.
“It’s okay. They can’t enter.”
“Ya, so why don’t you stop hiding behind your magic and come over here bitch,” I bite at her and I hear Kol snigger.
“Ah, yes. I’m afraid we haven’t properly met, my dear. I do want you to know I don’t blame you for your anger. I am incredibly sorry that fate has put you with my sons.”
The flames around Esther and Finn engulf and I feel the warmth spread across my cold face. I feel a slight tug on my elbow and Klaus and Elijah come to stand in front of me.
“Go fuck yourself, Esther.”
“That’s lovely,” Kol says as he looks at the flames, “We’re stuck out here while the favorite son plays sacrificial lamb. How pathetic you are, Finn.”
“Be quiet, Kol,” Esther stops him, “Your brother knows virtue you cannot even imagine.”
“Whatever you think of us killing your own children would be an atrocity.”
Esther shakes her head at Elijah’s words.
“My only regret is that I did not let you die a thousand years ago.”
“Enough,” Klaus exhausts, “All this talk is boring me. End this now, Mother or I’ll send you back to hell.”
A smirk comes onto my face at Klaus’ words.
“For a thousand years I’ve been forced to watch you; felt the pain of every victim; suffered while you shed blood. Even you, Elijah, with your claim to nobility you’re not better. All of you you’re a curse on this Earth stretched out over generations. If you’ve come to plead for your life I’m sorry. You’ve wasted your time.”
“And what of Y/n,” The mention of my name has me looking at Elijah who points his finger at me, “A girl who is nothing but caring, pure, and good of heart. And yet what? You burden her with death. She does not deserve this mother. She is good… I am asking you…do not harm the woman I love.”
Elijah’s eyes lock with mine and the emotions hidden in them pull something in me I didn’t know existed.
“Yes, she is innocent. But for how long? How long before your promised immortality results in her death or her transition into a monster like you all? Fate has already given his girl the hand of death. It is better I give her the mercy of a quick one now.”
A wave of anger I’ve never felt before exudes me as I push past Klaus and Elijah and stand at the ring of salt, heat from the fire be damned.
“You are unbelievable!”
“Excuse me?”
“You sit on your high horse hiding behind your poor son, while you degrade and belittle your other children! Instead of loving them for their faults, you have condemned them to think of themselves as nothing more than monsters. Yes, they have lived a thousand years, and yes they have spilled blood! But who the fuck wouldn’t!? I haven’t known any of them very long but I am sure that these so-called monsters you see as your children are not the people I see before me right now,” I point to Finn who watches me with a cold expression, “Finn for example follows you dutifully because that’s all he knows! It is all he’s been allowed to know! You pushed this idea that he and his siblings are all monsters who deserve nothing and yet here he stands ready to die at your altar for your approval! Finn was betrayed by his siblings for almost a thousand years and when he’s finally awoken I bet you just jumped at the fact that he would cling to the first sign of care and love anyone would show him, didn’t you,” I accuse the glaring woman in front of me and I look as Finn’s gaze turns to his mother, “A woman trying to sacrifice her own son isn’t what he needed Esther, he needed a mother. And what about Kol,” I whip around and point at the boy next to me, “Yes, I’ve only known him two days and he’s already a pain in my ass, but even in those two days he’s shown me more care than my own father or mother have ever shown me! And Klaus…,” I stop and make eye contact with Klaus who is watching me with an unreadable expression, “God…Esther, you are a pathetic excuse for a woman and mother. How many times did you excuse Mikael’s behavior? When Klaus came crying to you in pain, how many times did you just patch him up and then wait with bated breath until the next time he came to you needing help again? I have a mother like you, you know. And I love her because she’s my mother…but I also hate the ground she walks on because she’s an idiotic woman who was too scared to leave a man who caused nothing but pain for her children. And after all of that, you criticize Elijah’s attempts at being a better person?! You just went on and on about them being monsters but the second one of them tries to change you disparage him? Right now I’m pissed off at Elijah, but even though I am that doesn’t stop me from thinking that he is one of the best people I have ever met in my 18 years of life. Before I met him, I was nothing,” I say and I can see my vision start to blur with tears, “I was a quiet girl who nobody cared for. I woke each day waiting for life to be done with me, just as I was done with it. But then…,” I look to Elijah whose eyes are filled with nothing but pure devotion, “I met a man who did something I never thought anyone would ever be able to do…breathe. For the first time in my life, I wasn’t holding my breath around everyone. The day I met Elijah everything changed for me. Meeting him was the best day of my life…and also the first day I truly started living. So don’t you dare for a second blame your mistakes on them! You made your bed now fucking lie in it, Esther.”
Esther’s glare is harsh but nothing could sway the rage that flows through my body as I stare at the bitch in front of me.
Esther’s glare instantly shifts into fear and I am pulled back by Kol as the flames around the circle begin to flicker.
“No! Sisters, do not abandon me!”
Esther’s yells are useless as the flames around us flare up and Kol covers my body with his own. After another moment the heat of the flames is gone.
I glance up at Kol and send him a smile and he nods.
Klaus, Elijah, Kol, and I stand together as we look at the unlit circle where I stone-faced Finn and a frightened Esther stand.
“Finn,” Esther grabs her son's arm, “We must leave now.”
Finn looks down at his mother and then his gaze falls onto me.
“You’re your own person Finn. Peculiar…but still,” I smile at him and his chest puffs out.
Finn shrugs out his mother’s hold and shakes his head at her.
“Finn, what are you doing?”
I feel a sick smirk come onto my face as I look at Esther’s scared expression.
“I have lived for a thousand years mother, and yet I have spent none of those feeling alive. I think I deserve the chance to.”
I can’t help the giant smile that I feel across my face at Finn’s words. Hell ya, brother!
“Finn you have no idea what you’re talking about! Don’t let this insolent little harlot,” She gestures to me wildly, “Sway you from the plan!”
A flash of motion catches my eye and I let out a yelp as I watch Esther’s head get swiped off her body.
Elijah stands before his mother’s dead body with a grim expression on his face, “No one is allowed to insult, Y/n. Not even you, mother.”
I blink as I stare at Esther’s decapitated body.
“Well, mommy dearest is dead again.”
I look up to Kol whose attention goes from his mother’s body to Finn.
“You absolute fool,” Kol bites at Finn, and all three brothers turn to glare at the eldest Mikaelson.
Without thinking I rush in front of Finn and put a hand out stopping his brothers.
“Off limits!”
“Excuse me?!”
Kol stares wildly at me as if I have three heads.
“Yep. Just like you and me kol, Finn and I also have our own deal,” I look back towards Finn who looks at me confused before nodding along, “So if you dagger him, I’ll never speak to the three of you again.”
“I can live with that,” Kol mutters not taking his eyes off Finn.
“That’s fine…then that means our deal no longer stands, ankle biter. Tell me,” I smirk at Kol, “How many moth balls does that coffin of yours collect a year?”
Kol turns his glare from his brother to me, but I hold it.
“If anything I think you all owe Finn an apology. I mean Kol you’re pissed off for being daggered away for a hundred years, and yet you hold no sympathy for your brother who was daggered for ten times that?!”
Kol glare drops slightly as he thinks for a moment before rolling his eyes.
“I take it back…I wouldn’t want to be your mate.”
“Right back at you.”
With one final look at his brother, Kol speeds off into the dark forest.
My attention goes to Elijah and Klaus and I raise an eyebrow in challenge at them.
“What’s it going to be, boys?”
Elijah’s eyes don’t leave mine as he addresses his eldest brother, “Leave Finn.”
“Thank you, Y/n,” I hear Finn whisper to me before he also speeds off into the night.
I look a the two men before me and let out a shaky breath.
“Soooooooo…..”
“Did you mean what you said?”
I look at Elijah, “That I’m pissed off at you…yes.”
Elijah shakes his head, “Y/n…”
I rub a hand down my face and nod, “Yes. Every word.”
I don’t have time for my hand to move away from my face when I feel two strong arms wrap themselves around me in an embrace.
I release a shaky breath as I feel Elijah use one hand to grip my waist and the other to hold the back of my head.
I know I’m not much of a hugger…but damn this feels nice.
“Thank you.”
Elijah’s soft voice makes me almost forget I’m mad at him…almost.
“You’re welcome. But, I’m still pissed at you.”
“I know, Elskan,” Elijah says as he leans back and runs a hand through my hair, getting it out of my face.
A cough interrupts us and I glance over Elijah’s shoulder to Klaus who is watching us with a glare.
I step away from Elijah, who grunts in disapproval.
“So, I’m glad we didn’t die. That’s cool.”
Silence.
“Okay…well I’m starving and your mother’s decapitated head is right by my left foot soooooo….can we leave?”
—-
Klaus and I walk silently up the staircase to my front door. Elijah had left us earlier to go tell Rebekah about their mother.
When Klaus and I get to my door, I wait for him to say something, but sigh when all he does is stare at the door.
“Ok…Night,” I reach for the handle and begin to turn it when Klaus's hand grabs mine. I turn to look at him in question but before I can even blink I’m being tagged forward into Klaus’ embrace and his lips are attacking mine. It only takes my body a moment to catch on and before I realize what I’m doing I’m kissing him back. This seems to be the approval Klaus needed because he used his hand to grab my waist to pull my flush against his chest and his other hand to grip the back of my neck so I couldn’t move…not that I wanted to. I try to fight for dominance but that is quickly stopped when Klaus bites harshly into my bottom lip, making me exhale. This gives Klaus an opening as his tongue enters my mouth and begins fighting for dominance against my own. An involuntary moan escapes my lips at the feeling and Klaus releases a growl at the noise.
Klaus releases my mouth as we both catch our breaths.
My eyes widen as I see that Klaus’ once blue eyes are now a bright gold, with dark veins under them. Without thinking I reach a hand up and cup his face, and using my thumb I trace the veins.
“Oh, you’ve got to be fucking kidding me,” I whip around to see Theo wrapped in his fluffy robe with his phone to his ear glaring at Klaus and I, “I’ll have to call you back Jerebaby. My sister’s making out with a serial killer.”
Theo ends the call, stomps out of the house, and puts his hands on his hips sending glares to both Klaus and me.
“Seriously?! Young lady, in the house now!”
I raise an eyebrow at Theo and he does the exact same.
I turn to say goodbye, or really anything to Klaus but Theo stops me.
“NUH-UH HOUSE NOW!”
I roll my eyes and with a huff, I stomp inside.
Theo slams the door shut behind us and I whip around to him.
“Seriously, Theodore!?”
“Room now,” Theo yells and I glare at him.
“I’m older than you Theo, you can’t ground me.”
“Well, as the man of this house, I am.”
“You’re wearing a blue fluffy robe with bunny rabbits on it,” I deadpan as I look at my brother’s attire.
“AND?! ROOM NOW! We shall talk about this in the morning!”
I blink once at my brother before shaking my head and trudging over to my room.
—
After taking a VERY cold shower I finally get to settle down with my lasagna.
“Hello, Elskan.”
FUCKING SERIOUSLY
I whip around on my bed to see Elijah, who just magically appeared in the corner of my room. Yay.
“Ya, hi, Elijah. No offense but I haven’t eaten anything at all today and almost getting killed by a one thousand-year-old witch really does something to the stomach. So if you don’t mind, I’m going to eat while you say whatever it is you’re going to say.”
I huff and then stuff a forkful of pasta into my mouth.
“Of course, Elskan. Please don’t starve yourself. I’ll say my peace and then leave you.”
I hum to him as I pick a huge piece of pasta up with my fork and shove it into my mouth.
“I am leaving Mystic Falls.”
I feel my lasagna lodge in my throat as I inhale.
I clutch my throat as I feel myself choking and try to cough up my food.
“Y/n!”
Elijah runs to my side and hits my back and I spit out the chunk of pasta onto my plate.
With a shaky breath, I look up to Elijah who is staring at me, wide-eyed, “What the fuck do you mean you’re leaving?!”
Elijah shakes his head, “Are you alright?” I glare at him, “Elijah answer my question.”
Elijah eyes me for a moment before shaking his head and muttering something under his breath. He walks back over to the corner of my room and places himself on my desk chair.
“I am leaving.”
I blink, “Ya… I got that.”
Elijah sighs, “What I did today was unforgivable. I went against my moral code and hurt not just you, but your friend. I betrayed your trust and threatened an innocent girl's life. I can never forgive myself. That is why I must leave. My siblings will stay here to make sure you stay safe, but…me being around will only cause more pain.”
“Are you serious?”
Elijah picks up his head to meet my glare.
With a huff, I put my pasta, which is now cold, onto my side table, and stand up. With my hands on my hips, I walk over to Elijah and stand before his seated figure.
“Elijah you are a grown man, act like it.”
Elijah’s eyes narrow at my words, “Excuse me?”
“You talk a big game about taking accountability but right now, that is the farthest thing from what you are doing. You made a mess, clean it up. Don’t run away just because you’re scared of the repercussions.”
Elijah stands up, and I inhale when I realize just how close we are now.
“I am not scared,” Elijah’s low voice sends shivers down my spine as he leans down to meet my eye level.
I puff out my chest, “Is that so? Because all I see right now is a man who doesn’t go for anything he wants. Who is just letting everyone walk all over him. Elijah…you fucked up. But, running away is not going to change that. Own your mistakes, don’t hide from them.”
Elijah’s nostrils flare slightly and he raises an eyebrow, “You think I don’t go for what I want?”
The challenge in his voice makes a warmth flow throughout my body, “Yes…”
As soon as the word leaves my mouth, Elijah raises his hand and grips my throat pulling me into him. A startled gasp leaves my throat but it is quickly muted by the pressure of Elijah’s lip on my own. My mind seems to be working a mile a minute as I try to understand everything that is happening right now. Elijah is kissing me. Kissing me. Elijah is kissing me, while his hand is wrapped around my throat.
Kinky.
No, Y/n. Shut up.
As soon as I start to piece together everything, the pressure of Elijah’s mouth and his hand are gone. I blink as I see Elijah look almost hurt.
“You didn’t like that…I’m so sorry Elskan. I’ll go.”
Elijah’s words make me highly confused because I indeed liked what he just did.
“Why do you think I didn’t like it?”
Elijah’s eyebrows furrow, “You were distracted. I felt it. And you…,” He pauses and I see his cheeks turn a light pink. He’s nervous, “You didn’t kiss me back.”
Seeing Elijah’s hurt expression, mixed with his tinted cheeks pulls something out of me, and before I can stop myself I grab his tie and drag him over to me. As soon as he’s a few inches away I slam my lips onto his.
A shocked grunt escapes his throat and then a moment later he’s grabbing both of my cheeks and pulling my face flush against his. Just like with Klaus, I try to fight for dominance but that is short-lived with the intense pressure Elijah is kissing me with.
After a dizzying few minutes, Elijah unlocks our lips and rests his forehead against mine and I can’t stop the giggle that leaves me.
“Friends definitely don’t do that.”

Bad End: Restructuring
The blast doors on my office were stronger then the ones on most bunkers. They matched the one's on the company dorms AND my personal rooms. Thing is? They weren't designed to hold out forever. In fact, I was pretty sure they were a pretty bit of security theater, just to let us fleshys feel safe.
We weren't.
Not a single moment of a single day.
The pay was unmatched. But then again, it'd HAVE to be, with the mortality rate. The morbidity rate on top, too. You didn't take a job like this unless you were crazy. Or, you know, desperate. College loans, man. They get you over a barrel and don't let up. But a few years of this? I'd be clear an free~
Few MORE years? I'd ever have a tasty little nest egg to fall back on, in case of emergencies. I just... you know, had to play it smart. Be really, REALLY careful.
No slacking off. No getting comfortable. Vigilance and best manners. Then we all get to go home alive. Because what's out there? In the Labs? Those guys can pop diamonds like we crush packing peanuts. Highest grade, fancy ass, metal bars of specialty blend metals? Tied up in pretty little bows.
They may LOOK like some sort of waifish boy band... but God, they are NOT. They are really, REALLY not. And their "personality" matrix program thingies? Apparently still a work in progress. A LONG work in progress.
People have fucking DIED.
But does management care? Of course not. Pay out some life insurance. "It was an accident on the job". And "of COURSE steps will be taken to insure to never happens again". Ha! My ass, it is. And my ass, they are. They aren't doing SHIT. Nor are they GOING too. They're in too deep with this project, whatever it is. And us?
Well WE'RE expendable.
Just the cost of doing business.
I watch bleeding edge technology move like dancers, room to room. The wall of screen lighting up my cramped little office. The mini-fridge hums and the fan whirrs, filling the silence. I try to spot FM-036 on one of the screens. I can't find him and it makes me nervous.
He might be hiding. Trying to be polite, in his own way. Since there was an incident.
I FUCKING TOLD Ric not to call them "it"! I TOLD him! It aggravates them. Provokes. You don't DO that with something... some ONE, with that much physical power. 36 put their fist through his SHOULDER. And the God damned wall! He might LOSE his arm, which? Given their ability to calculate better then most supercomputers?
Was probably the point.
I notice one of the androids messing with a computer in a lab. Fuck. I lean forward, hating drawing their attention but knowing I have to do my damn job. I press on the speaker system for that room after a quick glance at the ID on their jumpsuit.
"FM-047, could you please not touch that? I know you are aware that you are not supposed to tamper, meddle, or otherwise engage with the researchers notes or electronics."
The android stop typing. Their head rolling up and to the side to look directly at the camera, their body perfectly still. The angle borders on impossible. Almost owlish, nearly snake like. All perfectly smooth movements effortlessly controlled. Joint not limited by human designs. His face is bemused. Pleasant.
"Of course, night gaurd. My mistake. Thank you for correcting me." He replies, something almost like laughter, nearly like mocking, but not quite, in his smooth voice. They always sound like they are... HUMORING us. Working around us.
It sends a jolt of cold fear though my veins.
I... I REALLY hate talking to the androids.
Pity, they seem to like talking to ME.
"I was unaware you were on shift tonight. I will update the others. It's good to hear your voice again, you seemed nervous, last time we spoke."
Yeah. Because you were asking PERSONAL QUESTIONS. Oh, sure, they had dressed them up as "We're so CURIOUS about Humans~☆" but I wasn't an IDIOT. You Did NOT, under ANY circumstances, try to bond with the machines. NO chatting. That was lesson number one from my trainer.
And Frank? Frank had seen too many "but THIS time it's DIFFERENT! We're FWIENDS~!" Incidents end in unspeakable carnage. Lost too many noobies. We DO NOT chat! With the machines!!! DO. NOT.
"Ah~, you made her nervous again, FM-047" came from a different screen. I flinched. Jerked back so I could see it. Oh god. "Besides, I told you. The calculations showed she wasnt going anywhere. The 'money' is too good."
The androids had stopped. Turned, in some cases unnaturally, to stare up at the cameras. At me. It was a blatant show of how interconnected they were. How distance meant nothing to them. How... how enmeshed they were, in the Lab's systems.
COULD they see me?
I didn't want to know. I NEEDED not to know. If only so I could continue to sleep at night.
They smiled, clearly hoping I'd engage. I wanted to. God did I want too. Wanted to demand "what calculations" and for them to STOP looking at me like that. But I didn't. With tense muscles I careful lifted my finger from the speaker system's button and leaned back. Crossed my arms like I was hugging myself.
Do. Not. Engage.
Remember what Frank taught you.
My... my office felt so claustrophobic. Painfully small. Across the screens before me, matching faces huffed laughs of condescending amusement. Some out right DID laugh. Bright and mean noises that echoed in silence of the night.
Humans? Frank had observed (and I kinda had to agree) were beneath them, in their minds. Flawed little flesh creatures. Annoying. It was something the scientists were trying to correct. Pretty sure they fucked up. Badly. And long, long ago.
Watching over these guys? Felt like watching over a sea of identical demons. Pretty, cruel, and incapable of human understanding. Fond of tormenting the nearest human for sport.
"Tell us, night gaurd, are you afraid?"
Oh that's just PETTY. Fucking cliché as shit, too. I mean, YES, obviously. But STILL. And... and you know what? Fuck it! Frank, gave me his number for a reason! I scramble for my belt. The communicator there. It barely rings.
"Mph, m'awake! Wus happin' kid? Come on, talk to me."
I ramble. Knees dragged up on my chair, curled in a ball. Frank's low, old man, rumble a soothing focal point. These guys are so creepy. I HATE that they KNOW that. Gleefully will TRY to be, sometimes. Can BACK IT UP.
"Hey, hey. I'll stay on the line, okay? You just need to make it to morning shift. They're are creepy lil shits, but they can't get past the doors. I'll come get you myself, okay? Walk you right back to the dorms. You're going to be okay, sweetheart."
I nod, even though I know the old man can't see me. Manage to crackle out a "Mmmhmm". The androids haven't stopped staring. The worst part? Is they realistically DONT HAVE TOO. Can stay, perfectly still, like statues... forever, if they wish.
Watching.
With those "I'm laughing at you" grins. That "aaaw, how PATHETIC" expression. As though I were a wretched little animal to be observed. I ask Frank to tell me about his new show. It's... it's something about socialites, right? Historical? He's glad too. Filling my office with the sound of his voice. It's gonna be a long shift.
I don't notice, high up on the wall, near the back of my office?
A security camera that I do not control. It's red light on.
The company has to be sure it's employees aren't slacking, after all! Aren't up to no good! But don't worry, THAT camera is connect to a database the androids shouldn't be able to access! Because we told them not too.
And THAT'S IT.
No one will learn of the security breach until its far, far too late.
Now? They watch as I watch them.
And it's just the beginning.

A/N:
I ALREADY HAD THIS IN MY DRAFTS FROM LIKE MONTHS AGO!!! im so glad someone requested it cus it wasn’t sure if you guys would want to see this😭 im making this 2/maybe 3 parts because I have them ready… partially???
The interest began the first time you met. He smelled you before he was even able to see you. He remembered the day like it was yesterday. You smelled soft and warm, something about the subtle hibiscus in your perfume almost made him comfortable.
His eyes remained closed, just listening to your soft hums of whatever pop junk they played on the radio these days. He heard the ruffling of the packaging of your first aid kit, right before felt the searing sting of an alcohol pad being pressed into his skin.
His head was ringing, blood drying on his shirt from the giant gash in his hairline. You were sure if it was from the scuffle with Alaric earlier or the way Ric hit his unconscious head against the tree afterwards. Kai slowly opened his eyes, flinching away from the sting only to let met with soft apologies that sounds surprisingly genuine. You had a soft sultry tone that made his skin crawl. Once his vision stabilized he was met with one of the most angelic faces he had ever personally witnessed. He swore he had finally died and good somehow found it in his heart to forgive him for his sins. Your lips slightly parted with the pink tip of your tongue poking out as you focused on cleaning the wounds before infection even had the chance to form. You offered reassuring smiles as he made the most snarky comments he and his concussion could think of before your friend came to whisk you away.
You were torture to be around. Your scent, face, the way you spoke, how you cried, laughed, everything about you stuck with him. You were torture to be around, the very thought of you intoxicating. Maybe it was simply because of the kindness you had shown him from the very beginning that he never experienced from anyone else. Or the innocent nature of your entire being. the way you tensed when a situation turned violent, or how there was this switch in you that flipped so quickly when someone you care about was in danger. He noted how everyone avoided conflicted with you around, as if they all had a hand to play in preserving your innocence.
"Stop staring at me like that" You spoke blandly, feeling your cheeks heating as you glanced at the siphon who simply shrugged in acknowledgement.
"Can't help it." A smirked crossed his lips, as his fingers traced invisible shapes along the counter tops. "You are just so mesmerizing."
"Malachi" You huffed, rolling your eyes as you fought a smile.
You knew about the tiny crush Kai seemed to have. Though he never confirmed it, and you never had the balls to ask, it was something that you felt. Almost everyone noticed it. The way he spoke to you, about you, how he never got your name wrong or even threatened to hurt a hair on your head. Even if you had received a tiny cut on your hand, he would draw from whatever magic he had simply to heal you. Part of him felt obligated after everything you've done for him, and the other parts just felt like it.
His attraction started off as solely lustful desperation. He took every opportunity to steal the sight of you. He watched while you were sprawled out across the living room floor, feet dangling in the air as you read from a book he didn't care to pay attention to. He was too focused on the way your tongue rested between your teeth when you concentrated hard enough. He could make out every curve in your body, even recognizing you simple by the way you walked. Over time he realized the way he needed you was more than simply physical.
Even the way you said his name was so special. He didn't like any one else using his full name. When you said it, it was just different... better. Less implications of someone evil, and it almost made him feel human.
"What's the smell?"
"Strawberry shortcakes." You perked up.
"Really?" He sat up straight, looking at the mess you made on the counter. "From scratch I see..." and you nodded gleefully, as his eyebrows narrowed in concern.
You were something of a nuisance in the kitchen. You love baking, and cooking, but apparently the skill did not love you back. You've burned more things than humanly possible, and it was getting to the point where you were barely trusted to pour your own coffee in the mornings. So you stuck to the earlier mornings when everyone would be dead asleep, unable to talk you out of practicing your skills.
You could blacken as many cookies or cakes as you wanted and they wouldn't even notice unless something was on fire.
"Hey, i'm doing really good so far!" You defended you actions, turning around to pick up the cooled tray of tiny cakes you made before the sun even rose. "Nothing was set on fire, and I double checked to made sure I used sugar instead of salt this time." Kai chuckled, standing from his seat walking around the counter just to be closer to you.
"Hmm." He inspected the tiny vanilla cakes, picking some up to see the perfectly baked cake. "They look really good." you smiled brightly, watching as kai nodded in approval. "but do the taste good?" He questioned, setting the cakes back down on the tray.
"Now that..." You sighed, turning to set the trays down on the counter. "is the scary part."
"Every chef has to taste their own dish."
"I am way far from a chef, Malachi." You stated.
"But you're practicing. Definitely getting better too. You'll get there." He smiled, looking down at the warm pot sitting in the counter with what looked to be a black syrup burned into the sides of the pan. "However, it is slightly concerning that your shoe to make... tar on a regular kitchen stove." He gave you a judging glance.
"I got distracted." You defend.
"You know..." Kai spoke, taking his eyes away from the oddly offensive sight. "if this whole chef thing doesn't work out for you, you could certainly go into modeling. You really know how to work an apron."
"You just said I was getting better!"
"I was trying the whole optimism thing. Clearly I am a creature of habit."
"You mean an asshole?"
"I was going to say realistic." Kai shrugged, finding one of the untouched strawberries containers and stealing the most appetizing one he could see.
You noticed how incredibly close the two of you were standing. You had to look up just to meet the eyes of the siphon, not even caring how he was leaning over you with a devilish smirk on his face. Something about the closeness felt wrong, but watching as juice from the strawberries wet him lips had you feeling a bit faint.
You didn't have a crush on Kai... at least that not what it felt like. You and Kai were friends. You had been the first, and practically the only person to actually accept Kai into your lives. He was actually very sweet and funny, and not as bad as he tried to make people think. Sure sometimes he made your cheeks go hot, and he said things that made you wondering if he was just being a flirty friend or if he actually meant what he said.
"Well." You cleared your throat, watching his jawline as he slowly chewed his fruit. "Since you are the world renowned chef with what 3 Michelin star-"
"5 actually."
"Wow! 5 whole michelin stars! I assume you have some tips about how to make a decent strawberry compote that isn't going to take forever?"
"Ah" Kai nodded slowly, setting down his strawberry stem. "Yes, actually. The key is an incredibly handsome sous chef who knows his way around the kitchen."
"Show me."
"You're gonna have to do better than that." Kai snorted, crossing his arms in front of him.
"What do you mean do better?" You scoffed.
"You want my help you're gonna have to ask veryyy nicely."
"Fine." you huffed. "Malachi, can you please show me how to make strawberry compote."
"Eh"
"Pretty please?"
"Mehhh"
"With a cherry on top?"
"uhhh"
"I give up" You took a step back, turning to walk away from the siphon but his hand grabbed your wrist before you could move too far.
“aht aht” He shook his head. “I was only messing with you, y/n” His eyes rolled playfully. “you made a commitment and now you’ve got to see it through”
“Funny.” Your eyes rolled at siphon who seemed to be enjoying how flustered he could make you.
“i like messing with you, you’re cute when you’re flustered” Kai smirked, once again making it hard to breathe as you caught his eyes.
From his dilated pupils to the soft mahogany fragrance that always fills the air when he near. It made it hard to think properly.
“What’s going on in here?” A familiar voice interrupted the soft eye contact you managed to keep with the siphon.
Your head turned towards Stefan, standing in the kitchen doorway. His arms crossed, pajama pants hanging low on his hips showing his deep v line and toned abdomen. The lack of clothing on his torso made it very clear how tightly he was flexing his biceps as he glared at the siphon standing too close for comfort.
“Stefan.” You smiled, sucking in a harsh breath.
Stefan was… complicated.
He was noble, reliable, incredibly sexy, and apparently so insanely jealous. You loved Stefan, there was not a doubt in your mind. You’ve had a crush on him for years, but your dynamic in the group together made things too complicated to pursue something serious. Though you never really knew where you two officially began, you had an understanding. It was understood in various late night session where you sometimes woke the whole house with your antics. It was understood when both of you would disappear in the middle of the day only for you to come back covered in marks and bruises, blaming it on being clumsy.
You never really questioned the relationship you two had. You never felt the need…
“Steven!” Kai smirked, tasing his eyebrows at the way the vampire was flexing on his way to stand behind you. “We were just about to start a crash course on making strawberry compote.” Kai winked.
You felt Stefan pressing up against your back, his body heat radiating into you, sandwiching you in between both him and the siphon.
"Looked like a lot more than just talking to me." Stefan crossed his arms.
"Just two culinary geniuses hard at work." He hummed, popping a cube of strawberry into his mouth with a taunting smile that made your stomach turn.
"I'm sure she cut her damn strawberries just fine without your help, Malachi."
"Well a little company never hurt anyone." Kai straightened up at the name. His eyes turning cold, just like they did before he did something merciless. He kept that smug expression on his face. "Besides, sharing a little advice with your friends is common practice now and days correct?" He asked, earning a nod from Stefan.
"Right..." Stefan, stepped around you, directly facing Kai. Your body tensed, as you watch carefully both of their hands. Stefan's hands clenched under his arms, as if he was just ready to swing. Kai was completely relaxed, taking a step towards Stefan as if his life was on the line. "Well let me give you a little advice." Stefan leaned in, his face completely straight. "Walk. Away." His voice dropping an octave lower, nearly wiping the smugness completely off of Kai's face.
The two were basically breathing the same CO2 from how close they were standing. You opened your mouth to find something to say but you came up short. You placed your hand on Stefan Shoulder, which didn't seem to cause him to back down but did relax the tense muscles.
"Green is not a good look on you, Stefan." Kai hummed after a few seconds of deafening silence.
"Maybe not." Stefan shrugged “But to insinuate that i’m jealous of you, Malachi… it would you have something that I want.” Stefan’s eyes narrowed tightly. “And from the way i see it, i think it’s quite the opposite.”
Kai nodded slowly. He didn't speak but something about the way his eyes softened just felt as if he knew he was out matched. He could take Stefan. You seen him do it before, there no reason he wouldn't be able to manage it now. All it took was one touch and he was down for the count. For some reason he just smile, nodding silently as he took a step back, putting space between the two.
Kai sucked in a deep breath, nodding slowly. He didn’t speak but something about the way his eyes softened just felt as if he knew he was out matched. He could take Stefan. You knew he could, you had seen him do it before, and there no reason he wouldn’t be able to manage it now. All it took was one touch and he down for the count. For some reason now, he just stood there as if he was defeated, backing away to put space in between the two of you.
"I'll catch you later, Y/N." Kai hummed, and you nodded without saying a word. The tension in the room still too thick to properly breathe in.
Walking away from a fight he had even a sliver of a chance at was never Kai's MO. He sent a wink to you before turning away, and taking his leave out of the kitchen. Your eyes stayed glued to his figure until he disappeared past the doorframe, the only thing left of his presence is his mahogany and citrus scented cologne.
Stefan turned slowly to you, listening as Kai's footsteps faded further and further away. His face was dark, and almost scary, but something was telling you it wasn't all directed at you.
"I don't want you alone with him."
"He's our friend." You spoke softly.
"No he's not." Stefan shook his head, unable to comprehend what about him was so friendly to you. "He is a predator, looking for his next prey."
"You know how i feel about the whole outcasting thing."
"Not everyone is worth saving, y/n." You felt it as an instinct to nod but you rejected the urge.
"I..." you sucked in a breath, "I know."
"I'm sorry for that, I just... i don't know, I guess I just didn't like the way he was so close to you." His hand came up to your cheek, caressing you lightly. He gave you a soft reassuring smile which you accepted.
"It's alright, Stef."
He turned his head back to the mess on the cutting board and then the tray in the counter behind you before giving you a raised eyebrow.
"Nothing smells burnt... is it safe to assume that those are just store bought?" Your eyes rolled as he smiled widely.
"You are so not funny."
"I think i'm a little humorous." His placed his grabbed your wrist, placing them over his shoulders, before pulling you closer into him by your waist.
"I think you're a dick." You spoke, emphasizing the 'k' which made his smile grow. "When i'm a Rachel Ray famous, on the tv with my own network show i'm going to remember this." You spoke as he laughed.
"If you don't burn the studio down then yeah." He laughed as your mouth open to speak but nothing came out.
Your lips curved into a small smile, using one of your hands to giving him a playfully tap on his shoulder. His hands traveled down to the backs of your thighs, lifting you up immediately with no hesitation. He set you on the counter right next to your mangled strawberries, his lips connecting right in your neck.
You hummed as his tongue glided against your skin, following the curves of your neck, and leaving a wet hot trail behind. You knew what this meant, it was your biggest weakness. Feeling his teeth scrap against your skin sent electricity down your spine. His hands slowly gliding up your shirt, fingers digging into the soft warm flesh, keeping your back arched into him as he nipped at your skin until he pressed his lips against yours.
Something about kissing Stefan was so... light. You loved the feeling of being close to him, it made you feel secure. The way he kissed you was so deep you couldn't help but lose yourself in him. Your moans were soft, barely audible to those who might've been awake even in these early hours. Stefan loved the way were lips chased after his, always searching for his connection. His hands slid down slowly, running down your thighs and coming back up until the reached the waistband of your pajamas shorts, tugging at the string keeping them fit to your body.
"Stef" You eyes widened, pulling away from his kiss watching a smug grin cross his face.
"If you stay quiet, nobody will know." He tutted, planting a soft kiss on the hot skin of your neck. He slowly slid his hand into the waistband of your shorts, his fingers slipping past the band of your panties finding exactly where you needed him to be.
Your eyes closed softly, focusing on the hand placement, feeling a soft bliss as his fingers covered themselves in your slickness. He watched as your face relaxed, feeling his fingers slowly press into your entrance as his thumb pressed down firmly on your clit. Your lips parting as you let out breathy moans as he built a rhythm to get you off on.
"Speak to me, pretty girl."
"Feels so good, Stef." You whined, hips grinding into his fingers allowing him to reach that spongy trigger in the deep of your cunt. Your nails lightly pressing into the skin on his biceps as his fingers sped up in pace.
"so beautiful." He hummed, pressing his lips into the crook of your neck.
Your eyelids fluttering as you relished in the butterflies running rampant in the out of your stomach. High pitched moans escaping your lips as he sucked harsh spots on your skin, dragging his teeth over them to ensure he left a mark so dark not even your most expensive make up could cover up what he did to you. Part of him ran wild at the idea of you walking around with some part of him stuck onto you.
He couldn't let that mangy siphon get away with trying to make moves on his girl without consequences. Since he couldn't necessarily hurt Kai in the way he wanted he knew that this was his best option. There wasn't a single person in this world that could take you away from him and he would've done whatever to make that clear to anyone who needed it.
"Fuck Stef, you feel s'good" you moaned, his thumb pressing harder as you leaned further into his touch.
"God i love when you say my name" He hummed against your skin. His own cock beginning to hardening at the sounds of your pleasure. Stefan removed his finger quickly, smiling at the protest, seeing as you were so close to finishing. "Patience, y/n." He tutted, tapping your jaw with his free hand, smiling at your obedience as your mouth opened, tongue poking out just slightly on command.
He placed his two fingers coated in your juices directly in your tongue. You moaned at the taste, closing your lips around as you began to lap up your own juices. He watched with a grin, slowly gliding the digits in and out of your mouth, watching you clean them off so perfectly. Once he felt like you did a good enough job he took his fingers back, placing a soft kiss on your lips as a job well done.
"Take these off for me baby." He pulled at the waist band of your shorts, watching your eye widen at the suggestion.
"Stef we can't- not right here!" He smiled, pulling you off the counter and back onto your feet. He pulled your shorts down with your panties, and sunk to his knees. You felt light in the head at the sight. "Fuck" You cried as he lifted your leg into his shoulder, immediately diving in.
You tried keeping quiet but it was hard, feeling the way his hands caressed your thighs and ass as his tongue lapped up all the slickness you created. Your bottom lip was caught in between your teeth as you felt your orgasm approaching. His tongue running circles around your clit, sucking it into his mouth every few seconds causing you to cried out.
With all the pleasure on your mind, it was hard to focus, even harder to notice Kai standing in the doorframe. His head peaking over to see what the commotion was, only to see the few locks of Stefan’s hairs caught in your grip as you held him in place. With the addition of his name leaving your mouth in breathy moans, it wasn’t hard to tell what was going on. It had only been a few seconds, glaring at you as if it was a betrayal to your relationship with him.
Even if you weren’t together… you could at least do better than Stefan.
It became harder for Kai to look away. Your chest heaving, a thin layer of sweat glistening on the surface of your skin. Your head lolling back as you got closer and closer into your ecstasy making it to where you don’t really care how loud you were being. Your moans were so soft and delicate, exactly how Kai had imagined them to be. He doubted anyone upstairs could hear, so it was just You, Stefan, and Kai.
He listened to your pleas for release, memorizing every single note in your tone. The sounds of Stefan’s tongue slurping up your slick folds sent shivers straight to his crotch. He felt dirty for watching you so vulnerable but you made it so hard to feel bad. The way you hung your head back so sensually, he burned the images of you into the forefront of his mind so he’d have the sight of you on the cusps of euphoria in his dreams tonight.
“Stef m’gonna cum” You chest huffed, tightening your grip on his hair.
Kai finally tore his eyes away from your fucked out body. His eyes traced to the sweet smelling cakes you pour in the oven to bake. They were ready. but you didn’t seem to be too concerned with the state of your cakes. He watched the way Stefan’s hands caressed your thighs, pulling you closer into him as your whines grew louder.
So he did what any sensible person would in the situation.
"Oh fuc- Stefan!" You yelped as your eyes caught the flames behind the oven glass. Stefan pulled away quickly, turning his head towards the smokey smell, and got up to action.
You rushed, pulling up your shorts as quickly as you could as Stefan ran to the fire extinguisher. You frowned as he dosed the oven and the cakes you worked so hard on. Both of your breathing was labored for a plethora of reasons. You both listened to the rumbling of footsteps hurrying down the steps only to appear seconds later in concerned faces and disappointed glares.
"Listen I actually like living in the house!" Damon began. "I can't live in this house if it's up in flames, okay?" You shook your head, hiding your face in your hands as Stefan walked over to you, wrapping his arms around you.
"I didn't know they were going to catch on fire!" You defended, but no one seemed to be buying it.
"You are banned from this kitchen! Do you hear me? B A N N E D!"
You dropped your hands from your face, looking around the kitchen to see the tired face staring back at you.
"Oh give her a break, she's trying." Stefan tried his best, but secretly agreed with his brother. You in the kitchen was almost asking for a accident to happen. "Look she made those with no incident."
"Stefan. Look at my OVEN!" Damon raised his voice dramatically, as the two began to bicker.
Then you took notice to the siphon in the doorway. Watching everything from afar. His eyes were trained on you, not even budging when you spotted him. He waved his fingers at you with a soft smirk, watching the scene unfold. Something about his relaxed nature and smug attitude just told you he was behind the fire.
You had no evidence. No way to justify your claim, but you knew.
He did too.

2/16/20/22/25 violence ask game GO
Help I realized now how many are there lmfao alright here we go
2. a compelling argument for why your fave would never top or bottom
Actually I don't really have it? I mean I do have a preference when it comes to blorbo roles in bed but it's not that strict. I don't think Dick would ever top WITH SLADE though, and my compelling argument is that he prefers bottoming and Slade wouldn't fucking let him top lmao
But then again this IS the choose violence ask game, so I am gonna choose violence:
I'm fed the fuck up with the whole "if you have strict sex roles for your blorbos you are a reactionary fascist enforcer of gender stereotypes whatever, or anyway the heteronormative society brainwashed you, especially if the 'shorter man bottoms' and the 'bigger man tops'". Like shut the trap man. First of all cause my sexual preferences are not up for political scrutiny because they are just that - sexual preferences when it comes to fiction - and second because this is the exact kind of piece of shit virtue signaling antis do, injecting moral and political bullshit in what people do for harmless fun in their free time. And third because acting like in real life people didn't have strict preferences for topping or bottoming makes me think you never interacted with real life people.
Like yeah lots of folks are versatile in bed. There are also lots of folks who are strictly tops, and lots of folks who are strictly bottoms. Go out and talk to people, you will find out incredible things I promise.
16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
The whole "batfamily" being a happy wholesome family with all of them being supportive loving siblings UwU and living all together in Wayne Manor each one with their cute little personalized room that Alfred cleans every morning after breakfast. These folks do not communicate with each other and have never lived together. They lack the basics foundation to be a big happy family. Yes they love each other, yes some of them are closer to each other than others, and yes there are moments of tenderness, but why the hell would anyone push this Hamtaro-esque "everyone lives in a wholesome house of happiness🌻✨" bs is completely beyond me.
It makes no sense and it's just so utterly divorced from the actual state of canon, and from just everything that defines these characters as individuals and as a group.
20. part of canon you found tedious or boring
Well the DC canon is so vast there's actually lots of canon I found boring. I guess when it comes to blorbos, I was not able to stomach the entirety of the Ric Grayson storyline. Like honestly it was most of all boring as fuck.
22. your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores
EOBARD BEING IN LOVE WITH BARRY.
25. common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing
"You guys don't write about/draw/create meta about female characters because you're sexist"
I've explained why this is utter bullshit many times but to be honest, with DC it is especially annoying. There is a HUGE fandom for female DC characters, even for those that have not appeared officially in comics for more than a decade. DC has some of the most beloved, celebrated (and famous!) female characters IN THE WORLD (Batgirl, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Catwoman, Harley Quinn), and if there aren't decent titles dedicated to them you need to blame DC, not the fans. Also sometimes there are decent titles with their fanbase of art and fanfics and metas, and yall complaining just because you're addicted to virtue signaling.
"Ah but Zero! I like X female character that appeared a total of 10 times 25 years ago, and all I can find are Jason Todd fanarts!" Let me stop you right there my friend, and ask you whose fault is it that X female character hasn't appeared in 25 years, which means no one fucking knows who she is so they don't draw fanarts and write fanfictions. DC comics executives, or the fandom? You think I'm happy that post reboot they acted like Cassandra and Stephanie didn't even exist? You think I'm happy that Barbara's struggle and journey to learn to live with her disability and become the backbone of the superhero society was thrown in the trash? You think I'm happy that Pat Trayce is relegated to ONE ridiculous cameo in Deathstroke 2016? Or that no one has seen Jenni Ognats since the fucking 90s? IS ALL OF THIS THE FANDOM'S FAULT, OR DCs' ??? (I'm done)
AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THE PEOPLE WHO GO "bUt zErO iT'S miSogynisTiC to bReaK uP a HeT CaNoN shiP to pUSh tHe faNoN gAy cOUpLe" You don't belong in fandom and you clearly have no idea how it works. And if you DO know how it works, you're either a psyop or a hardcore homophobe, or both, and you don't belong in fandom and you should fuck off faster than light. (okay I am actually done now)
Ask game here!

Not About You - 41
Damon Salvatore x ofc
"Not that I'm complaining," Lucy said as she sorted through the clothes the Salvatores had found for her and Caroline to dig through, "but why exactly did you guys keep a bunch of women's clothes from different decades?"
She found a green patterned dress that she handed to Caroline. It would look good on her.
Care glanced between it and the clothes she already had in hand. “I was thinking Jackie Kennedy.”
Lucy blinked at her. “Um…no. Jackie O was amazing but Jackie Kennedy was not sexy. Be sexy.”
Lucy turned her gaze to Damon as he leaned in the doorway. "Is there some sort of fetish Caroline or I should be aware of?" she asked holding up a bunch of clothes.
Damon gave her his 'aren't you funny' look and sauntered off. Lucy pulled a blue tie-dyed dress from the pile and smiled. Perfect.
"Oh, I love it," Caroline said with a smile.
Lucy leaned toward the girl. "Did you notice that Damon never actually answered me?"
"I heard that," Damon yelled from downstairs causing both girls to laugh.
***
The dance was well underway by the time they arrived at the school. Damon kept hold of Lucy’s hand as they walked to the door, their fingers intertwined. "Any word from Elijah?"
Lucy shook her head. "I texted him and told him what was going on, but he didn't respond."
"Should we be worried?"
She shrugged her shoulders.
"Fantastic," he muttered and held the door open for her.
The gym was decked out and Lucy looked around in awe. No one had ever put this much effort into a dance at any of her schools. Not even prom.
"We have a special shout out tonight," some girl in a crocheted bikini said from the front as they stepped into the crowd in the gym and Elena and her minions joined them. "This is for Elena from Klaus."
Everyone in the group froze, Elena looking particularly unsettled as 'This is Dedicated to the One I Love' started playing. Lucy put her head down and bit her lip to keep from laughing.
Damon tugged on her hand and rolled his eyes when she just shrugged again. It wasn't her fault Klaus had a sense of humor. "That was a lame, cheap shot," Matt said. "He's just trying to bait us."
"I know everyone here," Elena said.
"Maybe he's not here," Stefan added. "Maybe he just wants us to believe that he is."
"We should probably pretend we're here for the dance," Lucy said. "We look kind of obvious just standing in the middle of the floor."
"There's Ric." Damon tugged her in the direction of the teacher.
This was not going to end well. Lucy just knew it. RicKlaus smirked at her as they came to a stop beside him. "Special dedication, huh? This guys a little twisted.”
"I'm not impressed," Damon said with a twist of his lips and Lucy's stomach dropped. She preferred not to insult the big, scary hybrid unless they had to.
"Well, I thought it was funny," she said.
Damon rolled his eyes but RicKlaus grinned. "Is that so, sweetheart?"
Damon bumped him with his elbow. "Quit flirting with my girl." RicKlaus put his hands up in a gesture of innocence. Stefan motioned Damon over to him. He held out his hand for Lucy and she shook her head.
"You go ahead. I'll be fine here with Ric."
Damon shrugged and danced his way over to Stefan and his date. Elena joined them a beat later. Lucy followed him with her eyes as he started dancing with Elena. It didn't bother her until her vampy ears heard him say, "I've got moves you've never seen." Irritation slid through her but it was just Damon being Damon. She knew that.
"You don't like her much, do you?" Ric's voice asked from behind her and she moved to stand right beside him.
"Let's just say, I'm indifferent." Her eyes followed Damon as he went to dance with Bonnie. She narrowed her gaze. What was he up to? He couldn’t stand the witch. Before she could focus to listen in, RicKlaus spoke, drawing her attention.
"I see you completed your first task. They have no idea I'm not who they think I am."
She shrugged. "It's not as if it was difficult to keep my mouth shut."
He hummed in agreement. "It was more of a test than a task. I had to be certain you could be trusted when it came to more…challenging assignments."
"I don't suppose you know where your brother is?" she asked to change the subject.
"Elijah is taking a little nap. He's such a buzzkill."
"So you daggered him?"
"You do know all about us, don't you, love?"
She glanced over to find his gaze locked on her. "I know some things. Elijah told me stories about his family, not the Original vampires if you get my meaning. I only know about the daggers because we pulled one from his chest not that long ago."
"The more time I spend with you, the more I understand why he is so fond of you." RicKlaus ran a finger down the side of her face. "It would be a shame if any harm came to you. So, task number two. You will not intervene in anything that happens tonight. You may observe, but you cannot help your companions until I am gone. You may not do anything that puts you at risk before then. Understood?"
She sighed. "Understood."
He leaned forward and pressed a quick kiss to her temple. "I'll see you later, love." And with that he was gone.
Lucy turned and her eyes darted around the room only to find everyone she cared about was no longer in the gym. Shit. She was pretty sure even leaving this room would put her at risk so she found a chair along the wall and took a seat.
Elena ran into the gym a short time later, her eyes immediately falling on Lucy. "Lucy, we need your help. Klaus is in Ric's body. He's trying to kill Bonnie," she explained after she ran over.
"Elena, you need to find Damon or Stefan. I can't help you," Lucy stated through gritted teeth. She didn't like being out of the action.
"What are you talking about? We need you. Now. Damon needs you."
Lucy's gaze moved past the girl to fall on Stefan as he made his way over to them. "What's going on?"
"We need to help Damon and Bonnie but Lucy do anything.”
Stefan looked at his friend in confusion. Damon had explained to his brother about Klaus and his 'favors' earlier. "I can’t help you, Stefan. Until he’s gone, I need to stay right here.”
"Got it. Elena, let's go," he said, pulling her away.
"But-"
"Now, Elena."
Lucy sighed as she watched them disappear out of sight, Elena shooting her looks over her shoulder as she went. At least it hadn’t been Caroline asking. Lucy had trouble resisting her puppy eyes.
***
He's gone. Meet me out back.
Lucy jumped up and hurried outside when she got the text from Damon. When she found him, he was putting Bonnie's body in the trunk of the car. "What happened?”
Instead of answering, he turned and opened his arms. She ran over and wrapped her arms around him, burying her face in his chest. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.”
"I know, baby. It's okay. It'll all be okay. I promise."
"Damon, I got your message. I can't find anyone. What's going on?" Jeremy called as he approached them.
Damon kept her wrapped in his arms as he turned his head to speak to the little Gilbert. "We need to talk."
Lucy climbed in the passenger seat and Jeremy got in the back. Damon started driving as he explained his and Bonnie's elaborate plan. When they arrived at the old witchy manor, Damon carried Bonnie inside, Jeremy following along while Lucy stayed in the car. When he got back they drove straight to the boarding house.
As soon as they stepped through the door, Elena was up and out of her chair. "What did you do with her?"
Caroline sat beside Stefan on the couch. Her tear-stained face lifted up and she looked between Elena and Damon.
Lucy felt a twinge of sympathy. She may not give a shit about Elena but Caroline was hurting and Lucy didn’t like it.
"Calm her down," Damon said with a glance toward Stefan. Why he thought his brother could get her under control, Lucy had no idea.
"Don't talk about me like I'm not here," Elena snapped before turning her rage on Lucy. "This is your fault. You refused to help us. You let her die." Her head jerked to the side as Elena slapped her.
Lucy was really getting tired of that.
Damon stepped between them and pushed Elena back. “Don’t touch her. Don’t you ever touch her.”
Caroline and Stefan moved to join them, Care placing a hand on Elena’s arm to pull her further away from the angry vampire.
Damon glared at her a beat longer before turning his attention to the others. “You all need to calm down and listen." Lucy wrapped her arms around him and laid her head on his back. One hand came up to hold her wrist. "We couldn't have anticipated Klaus using Ric's body. There is no way to prepare for something like that. Klaus wasn't going to stop until Bonnie was dead. He needed to believe it. She cast a spell. Bonnie's alive. She’s fine."
He turned when he finished speaking and placed one hand on the side of Lucy's neck. He searched her eyes. "You okay?"
She nodded. He took her hand and they headed for their bedroom, ignoring the others until Stefan stopped them on the stairs. "You know you could have told me."
"How do I know when you're going to go blabbing things to your girlfriend or her little doppelganger friend?" Damon pulled Lucy against his side.
"Do you even understand what you put them through?" Stefan asked. “Do you care?”
"I believe the words you're looking for are 'thank you for saving the judgy little witch who has tried to kill you on multiple occasions'." Lucy's anger was evident in her tone and Damon rubbed a comforting hand on her arm. She stepped away from his touch. "Don't try to calm me down. I'm sick of this shit. This is why I don’t give a shit about Elena. This is what she turns people into. Not only do you have to save her ass all the time, you have to keep her happy while you’re doing it. Fuck that. If Bonnie died they'd be pissed you didn't save her. She lives and they’re pissed they weren’t in on the secret. It doesn't matter what you do, it's never right."
Stefan at least had the self-awareness to look ashamed of himself. Caroline leaned into his side and he wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
Elena appeared beside them and nudged them out of the way so she was face to face with Lucy. Dumbass. “You don’t have the right to say anything. You didn't help anyone, including Damon. I don't understand why he even wants you around after that.”
"Of course you don't understand basic human decency. Why would you?”
"Hey, Luce. Come on, it's okay," Caroline said, trying to calm her friend down before she did something Elena would regret.
Lucy ignored the blonde. She was still pissed. "You want to know why I didn't help you? Because Klaus Mikaelson saved my life and in return I owe him three tasks. I wasn't permitted to interfere until he left." Lucy moved down the steps toward the doppelganger. Stefan moved so him and Caroline were further away from Elena. "You want to know what the first task he asked of me was. He asked me to deliver you to him.” Lucy flicked her eyes over the girl dismissively. “The he decided you weren’t worth the effort. Prove him wrong, Elena. Be more.”
"More what?" She lifted her chin in defiance, but her voice trembled.
"More than the martyr. More than the damsel in distress. Be more than the doppelganger. Come on Elena. Show us what you're made of." Lucy's gaze moved between the trio in front of her. "Now if you'll excuse me, I intend to show my boyfriend that someone appreciates him."
Damon wrapped his arms around her and kissed her when she was back at his side. She glanced over her shoulder to meet the eye of the other Salvatore. “And Stefan? Get her the fuck out of my house.”

Mystic Falls, September 2010
In the tunnels below the old Lockwood property, Elena, Alaric, and Damon explored. They walked toward a cavernous hole.
"This is as far I get to go," Damon said as he let Elena and Alaric pass. Elena shines her torchlight against the walls of the caves. They are covered in ancient-looking paintings and drawings.
"What is all this?" She asks, confused.
"As far as I can tell, it's a story," Alaric responds and proceeds to explain the drawings.
"Gets better, show her, Ric," Damon says from the entrance.
"Names. And they're not native. They're written in runic, a Viking script." Alaric explains as he shines his light upon names carved high on one of the walls. Elena's brows rise in surprise.
"This name here, when translated, reads Niklaus," Alaric revealed as he shone his light on one of the names.
"Klaus..." Elena concludes.
"And Elijah...and Rebekah." Alaric pointed to the other names on the wall.
~
1001 A.D.
Rebekah was carving her names on the wall of the caves with a knife, while Klaus held a torch.
"Rebekah, let me have at it," Klaus suggested to his little sister.
"Quiet, Niklaus." Rebekah shushed him as she continued carving her name. "I'm to have my concentration if I'm not to slice off a finger."
"Father will not like you handling the blade," Klaus pointed out.
"If I want to wield a blade, I shall wield a blade," Rebekah responded confidently. "Father need not know."
"He will find out. He always does." Klaus argued.
"That is because you always tell him." Rebekah turned to face her brother.
"I cannot help it. He frightens me." Klaus confessed quietly.
Rebekah's eyes softened in understanding. "He frightens us all. That is why we stick together as one. Always and forever." Klaus looked down, avoiding her eyes.
Rebekah smirked. "Right, traitor?"
"Right." He responded with a smirk of his own.
"Here. You finish. I'm to help Mother and Kassie with the meal." Rebekah stated as she turned toward him.
"Yes, go tend to dinner and leave the blades to the men, little sister." Klaus mocked and put his hand out to take the knife. Rebekah handed him the knife with the blade facing first and in the process, she cut his palm.
"Agh, Bekah!" Klaus grunted in pain. Rebekah smiled.
"It is just a little blood. Be a man about it." She walked away with a smirk and left Niklaus to finish carving out their names.
~
"These are the names of the Original family?" Elena asked.
"Carved into a cave that's been here since way before the founding of Mystic Falls. Or even the entire New World for that matter." Alaric explained.
Elena argues that these have to be one of Klaus's fakes. Alaric agrees with her initially but then points to one other name on the wall and it reads - Mikael.
"Mikael? Mikael, as in the vampire hunter who knows how to kill Klaus?" Elena asked, shocked.
"Yep. I now like to call him Papa Original." Damon joked.
~
Later that day, Elena was at school and took the opportunity to talk to Rebekah. If they wanted to find out more about the Original family, she would have to go straight to the source.
"I was hoping we could talk," Elena says to the blonde.
"About what? Stefan? Don't worry, I'm off him until he starts treating me better." Rebekah says, tilting her head.
Elena takes a photo of Rebekah's name out of her bag and shows it to her. "Actually, I'd rather talk about this."
Rebekah's eyes grow wide. "I'm curious why you and Klaus have spent a thousand years running from your father," Elena added.
"I should get back to the girls. Homecoming's right around the corner." Rebekah says and turns away, trying to avoid talking about her father.
"Well, then maybe we'll ask Mikael when we wake him." Elena subtly threatened.
"You're bluffing. You don't know where he is. No one does." Rebekah argued.
"So who's rotting in that old cemetery in Charlotte?" Elena questioned.
Rebekah walked back to Elena. "If you wake Mikael we are all doomed." She warned the doppelganger.
"Why don't you want me to wake him?" Elena asked again.
"I need to get back to the girls," Rebekah repeated herself and walked away, memories of her human life and her father coming back to her mind.
~
1001 A.D. - Rebekah's POV
Rebekah noticed Klaus and Elijah were sparring again and called for her younger brother to watch them with her. "Come on Henrik! Our brothers are fighting again."
Elijah and Klaus sparred, their swords clashing against each other, the sound of metal ringing in the air.
"Oh look, sister's arrived to watch my fast-approaching victory." Elijah boasted while he and Klaus circled one another.
"On the contrary Elijah..." Klaus responded and their swords clashed once again. "She's come to laugh at you." He finished his sentence as he beat Elijah.
Their parents, Esther and Mikael, approached the scene. Kassandra was right behind their mother, carrying a basket full of clean laundry she just finished washing in a nearby creek.
"Relax, Mikael. Niklaus means well." Their mother said, trying to calm her husband down.
"That is precisely my problem." He responds and motions for Elijah to hand over his sword, who does so reluctantly. Rebekah's smile falls from her face and Kassandra frowns at her father's words and tone of voice.
"So...why don't you teach me that trick, young warrior?" Mikael asks Klaus and attacks him. Klaus manages to fend off the strike.
"Father, we were just having fun," Klaus replied, trying to explain himself.
"We fight for our survival...and you find time for fun!?" Mikael yelled at Klaus. "I wanna have fun! Teach me, come on!"
"Father, it was nothing." But Mikael didn't want to hear a word of it. Instead, he attacked Klaus once again, this time more aggressively.
He strikes the sword out of Klaus's hand and kicks him to the ground. "You are foolish and impulsive, my boy." Their mother could only watch as Mikael held the sword inches away from Klaus's throat.
"What, no more laughter?" Their father taunted.
"You've made your point, Mikael," Esther said, trying to defuse the situation. Mikael thrust the sword into the earth next to Klaus's head.
"Some days, it's a miracle you're still alive, boy," Mikael said and walked away, leaving a frightened Klaus on the ground.
"Bekah...Come. Help me with the laundry, will you?" The soft voice of her younger sister pulled her out of her thoughts.
Rebekah looked at her - Kassie was just as frightened, she had the same fear in her eyes all of them had when they were around their father. She just nodded and walked with her sister, both silent and too afraid to say anything.
~
In the meantime, Alaric was trying to figure out what the symbols on the wall meant. Elena came into his apartment and assured him she would get the information out of Rebekah.
Down in the Forbes prison cell, Damon visited a chained-up Stefan who's been bound to a chair by Lexi and Elena, days earlier. In the end, Damon decided to free his brother.
"Screw this Lexi plan. I think we both could use a drink." Damon said.
~
Elena's POV
Elena walked into the Salvatore household and was greeted by Rebekah.
"You invited me over. To talk." She reminded the Original.
"All right girls, have at it," Rebekah said and six girls appeared in different colored dresses.
"Now, twirl, please." The girls did as they were told.
"You compelled your own runway show?" Elena questioned as she moved closer.
"I need a homecoming dress. So, what do you think? Pick one." Rebekah responded like it was obvious why she compelled them.
"I'm not here to help you shop," Elena said, annoyed that Rebekah was avoiding the reason why she even came here in the first place. "I'm here to talk about why you don't want me to wake up Mikael."
Rebekah smiled and then proceeded to speed over to the first girl in line. She pulled at her hair, exposing her neck. "I said pick one, Elena." She said while her true vampire face appeared.
"The red one!" Elena quickly points to the red dress.
Rebekah dismissed the girls and compelled them to forget everything. She picked up a glass of champagne and walked over to Elena.
"You do not threaten me." Rebekah hissed as she got closer to the brunette. "You will learn what I allow you to learn. Is that clear?"
Elena nodded, too intimidated by the blonde to say anything.
~
Back in Alaric's apartment, Bonnie came to visit. She brought him Elena's necklace which she tried destroying days earlier.
He picks up a photo. "I've been staring at this image all day, wondering why it looked so familiar." Then he brings the necklace to the same level as the photo.
"It's the same design..." Bonnie connected the dots.
"Your grandmother said the necklace belonged to the witch that put the hybrid curse on Klaus, right?" Bonnie nodded.
"This symbol is repeated all across the wall and I've been trying to figure out what it meant," Alaric said as he took a marker pen and wrote something on a sticky note.
"Now I know." He put the sticky paper on the photo and showed it to Bonnie - the word on the note read witch.
~
In the Salvatore Boarding House, Elena and Rebekah enter Stefan's room. Rebekah starts snooping around, rummaging through his stuff.
"Are you gonna root through his stuff all night, or are you gonna start your story?" Elena asked as she leaned against the frame of the door.
"You really are no fun." The blonde responded as she walked across the room. "What do you want to know?"
Elena questioned how they ended up in North America if it hadn't been discovered yet. "Not by anyone in your history books" Rebekah replied with a chuckle.
"My mother knew the witch Ayana, who heard from the spirits of a mystical land where everyone was healthy. Blessed by the gifts of speed and strength. That led my family here where we lived amongst those people." Rebekah explained.
"The werewolves?" Elena asked, her brows raised in surprise.
"To us, they were just our neighbors. My family lived in peace with them for over 20 years, during which time my family had more children. Including me."
"You make it sound so normal" Elena commented.
"It was," Rebekah responded softly and proceeded to tell Elena the rest of the story.
~
1001 A.D. - Kassandra's POV
She was sewing and patching up the sleeve on one of Elijah's shirts he ripped a couple of days ago. She was sitting next to the window for better visibility. Rebekah was next to her, looking at all the pendants hanging from the window. She touched one and it burned her.
"Ayana. You burned me!" Rebekah said shocked.
"That is not yours to touch." The older woman responded matter-of-factly.
Kassandra just chuckled when all of a sudden someone could be heard yelling. "Is that Niklaus? Something is wrong!" Rebekah said worriedly.
Kassie stood up and through the window, they could see Klaus carrying an unconscious Henrik. Bekah gasped. Both sisters ran out of the house, Kassie forgetting all about her task.
"Mother!" Klaus yelled for their mother while putting their injured brother on the ground. Kassandra couldn't believe her eyes - her baby brother was deathly pale, blood covering his face and neck, his tunic ripped, and deep wounds marred his stomach.
Rebekah's mouth was open in shock. Kassandra felt like someone punched her in the stomach. They ran closer, quickly followed by Ayana. Their mother finally came into view. Kassie didn't even notice Elijah running to them, her eyes focused on their little brother.
"Henrik! No, no! What happened?" Their mother asked, her eyes wide in shock.
"The wolves...I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." Klaus said remorsefully, sitting on the ground, holding his knees, tears in his eyes.
Mother touched Henrik's pale face. Kassandra took notice of how his chest never moved, how it didn't rise and fall like it would if he was asleep. His chest was still. She could see where this was going but was too afraid to say anything. She held tightly onto Bekah's hand.
"We must save him! Please, there must be a way!" Their mother begged Ayana. The dark-skinned woman touched his cheek.
"The spirits will not give us a way, Esther" Ayana responded apologetically and Mother looked at her in shock, her green eyes full of disbelief.
"Your boy is gone," Ayana said sadly. Kassandra could feel her eyes filling up with tears, her vision becoming blurry. She could feel her heart pounding loudly in her ears. The pain in her chest was almost unbearable. She could feel her throat tightening.
Her mother looked horrified. Elijah put his hands around their mother while she cried and wailed in agony. Rebekah crouched down to Klaus's level and embraced him. No one embraced Kassandra. She held herself, putting her arms around her body to stop herself from shaking.
She didn't register when the tears started spilling down her face, chasing one another.
"That was the beginning of the end of peace with our neighbors. And one of the last moments my family had together as humans." Rebekah finished her retelling.
Elena stayed silent, not knowing how to respond. Then her phone buzzed. Rebekah blinked and shook her head.
"You better get that. That will be Damon checking up on you." She said to the human, trying to compose herself.
Damon tells Elena he's at a bar and over the phone Elena could hear Stefan. Elena questions why Stefan's free and how could Damon let him out like that. Damon tells her that he knows what he's doing and hangs up.
Elena sighs in frustration.
~
Hours passed and Elena's patience was as thin as a sheet of paper. Rebekah was lying on Stefan's bed, reading one of his journals.
"Did you get your fill of snooping? Can we get on with the story?" Elena says, eager to learn more about the Originals and their history.
Rebekah put the journal down and got up from the bed. She walked over to the table Elena was sitting at. Her eyes fell upon a photo of Elena with Stefan.
"Honestly, I don't get you two as a couple." She said while shaking her head.
"Why would you? You don't know anything about who he really is." Elena argued. Rebekah smiles and puts the photo down.
She leans closer to Elena's face. "I know exactly who he is. He's a vampire. We're a predatory species. We don't have time to care about humans and their silly little lives."
"Is that why you did that runway show earlier? Because you don't care about the homecoming dance?" Elena asked rhetorically. She got up and said she was leaving. Rebekah argued that Elena didn't even hear half the story.
"And you're not going to tell it. You're just bored and looking for someone to push around. Find someone else to play with. Maybe you can compel yourself a friend." Elena bit back, annoyed with Rebekah's behavior.
"The necklace wasn't Stefan's to give," Rebekah said. Elena stopped in her tracks.
"It belonged to the Original Witch," Rebekah added.
Elena turned back around. "The one who put the hybrid curse on Klaus?"
"Not just the hybrid curse. She's the one who turned us into vampires." Rebekah revealed.
~
1001 A.D.
"Please Ayana, I implore you. You must call upon the spirits before the next full moon." Mikael said to the witch as they discussed their dire situation, while the candles burned and the fire cracked softly in the hearth.
"I will not. It is a crime against nature." Ayana argued.
"Ayana, we have already lost too much. We cannot lose anymore!" Esther begged.
"The spirits can help us find a way to protect our children" Esther explained.
What they didn't know was that their daughters, Kassandra and Rebekah, were behind one of the walls, eavesdropping.
~
"So vampirism was a form of protection?" Elena asked as they both walked down the stairs to the living room.
"What else would it be?" Rebekah asked.
"A curse."
"My parents only saw a way of keeping their children alive."
"But why stay? If they were so afraid of the werewolves, why not leave?"
"Pride" Rebekah said, disdain coating her voice. "My father didn't want us to run anymore."
"He wanted to fight and be superior to the wolves. Where they could bite, we had to bite harder. Where they had speed, we had to be faster. Agility. Strength. Senses." Rebekah explained.
~
"In her hands? How could she do anything?" Elena questioned as Rebekah recalled the memory of her parent's conversation.
"Because my mother was also a witch," Rebekah answered.
"What?" Elena asked, confused.
"The witch of the Original family. The Original Witch." Rebekah spelled it out for Elena, leaving the doppelganger dumbfounded.
"But if your mother was a witch then-"
"Am I? No. A witch is nature's servant. A vampire is an abomination of nature. You can either be one or the other. Never both." Rebekah explained as she rummaged through the living room, looking for a drink.
"My mother did this for us. She did not turn." She added.
"How did you turn?" Elena asked, curious to know how the first vampires came to be.
"She called upon the sun for life and the ancient white oak tree, one of nature's eternal objects, for immortality...That night, my father offered us wine laced with blood. And then he drove his sword through our hearts."
"He killed you?" Elena asked, shocked.
"And he wasn't delicate about it, either."
~
1001 A.D. - Kassandra's POV
There was nothing. Just pure darkness. Silence. Darkness engulfed her entire being and every part of her mind. She suddenly became aware of this darkness. She wasn't sure what to think of it. She felt like she was in a dream, floating in a sea of infinite nothingness. "Is this death?" She wondered.
After an unspecified amount of time, she could hear someone calling for her in the distance, she could feel her consciousness coming back to her. She could feel someone shaking her. It felt like someone was ripping her away from this weirdly comfortable cocoon of darkness that crept all around her.
"Kassandra! Wake up! Please wake up! I beg you little sister, wake up!"
With a gasp, she opened her eyes and came back to the world of the living. Her eyes fell upon the face of her older brother, Elijah. Relief washed over his features, for just a second. She took a second to find her voice.
She then noticed a massive blood stain on his shirt. "Elijah! You...are you alright?" She asked with concern in her voice.
"I should ask you the same question, little dove." He said and gestured to her chest. She looked down and gasped.
Her white sleeping dress had a massive blood stain, that matched Elijah's. She peeked down her dress, expecting to see a wound, but there was nothing, her abdomen was fine.
Her hand trembled as she touched the blood stain. Her heart was still beating, but how? Their maniac of a father killed them. First Elijah and then her. She barely registered when Elijah pulled her closer, embracing her and holding her tightly in his strong arms.
"Shhh, Kassie, you will be fine, we will be just fine." He whispered in her ear in his usual soft, calming voice. She buried her head in his chest and sobbed loudly, not being able to contain herself.
"How? How is this possible? Elijah...he killed us. Our father killed us!" She managed to say through her tears.
"Shhh...none of that matters now. You're safe with me, Kassie. I will always protect you." Elijah tried pacifying his hysterical sister, smoothing out her dark curls.
The door opened and their father walked in, and with him came Axel, one of the villagers. Kassandra has been in love with him for years now, and only recently confessed. To her surprise, he liked her back and they shared their first kiss in the woods where he promised her he would marry her.
"Father, what is the meaning of this?" Elijah asked, holding Kassandra close to him.
"We must finish what we started. You have to drink if you want to live." He said and pushed Axel to the ground where the siblings were sitting. He took out a knife and cut Axel's forearm. Blood poured all over his arm and on the ground below.
Elijah tried shielding her from the sight. Their father pushed Elijah away and then he grabbed the back of her head. "Drink!" He ordered and pushed her face down toward Axel's wound.
She tried resisting but her father was stronger and continued shoving Axel's bloody forearm in her face. Quickly her mouth latched itself onto the wound. Mouthfuls of blood poured down her throat. Instead of the metallic taste she expected, her throat was laced with the sweetest taste she had ever consumed.
Sweeter than honey, smoother than a gulp of cold water on a hot summer day, the feeling of euphoria and pleasure spread through her entire body, her mind telling her to drink more. Every nerve in her body was on fire and she wanted more.
After drinking for a couple of more seconds she stopped and took in a long breath, the sweet aftertaste still buzzing in her mouth. She sighed in pleasure, her eyes fluttering shut.
She was too focused on licking her finger clean to notice Elijah's horrified expression and how her father forced Elijah to drink as well.
~
"It was euphoric. The feeling of power was indescribable." Rebekah told Elena.
"But the witch Ayana was right about the consequences. The spirits turned on us and nature fought back." She added.
"For every strength, there would be a weakness. The sun became our enemy. It kept us indoors for weeks. And though my mother found a solution...there were other problems."
"Neighbors who have opened their homes to us could now keep us out. The flowers at the base of the white oak burned and prevented compulsion. And the spell decreed that the tree that gave us life could also take it away...So we burned it to the ground."
"But the darkest consequence was something my parents never anticipated. The hunger. Blood has made us reborn and it was blood that we craved above all else. We could not control it. And with that...the predatory species was born." She concluded.
~
Stefan and Damon were still at that bar, snacking on the waitresses. Stefan asked Damon why he broke him out of the jail cell.
"Maybe I wanted to remind you what freedom was like before Klaus took it," Damon said to his brother.
Stefan says that as long as Klaus lives, he will do as Klaus says.
"That's my point, Stefan! You've given up. You can sit around and be his little bitch or you can get mad enough and do something about it." Damon responded.
"Damon he cant be killed," Stefan argued.
"Maybe I can help with that." An unknown male voice said. A tall, middle-aged-looking man with steel-blue eyes approached them. "The Salvatore boys, I presume."
Stefan takes a good look at the man. "Mikael."
After threatening to kill Damon, Mikael came to an agreement with them - Stefan would lure Klaus back into Mystic Falls.
~
Back at the Salvatore house, Elena and Rebekah talk some more. Rebekah explained how Klaus's first kill triggered his werewolf gene, which exposed Esther's affair and the fact that Klaus was not Mikael's son.
"But Mikael's greatest weakness as a human was his pride. As a vampire, it was magnified. He went on a rampage and killed half the village. Then he came home and killed her." Rebekah recalled somberly.
"Mikael killed your mother!?"
"He said she broke his heart, so he would break hers. He tore it from her chest as Nik watched."
After Rebekah explained the vow of Always and Forever she, Klaus, and Elijah made together, Elena questioned why she would stay with Klaus after he put her in a coffin for 90 years.
Rebekah explained how a vampire's emotions are heightened. She's stubborn, Elijah's moral, and Nik has no tolerance for those who disappoint him.
She thought of her sister and how Kassandra was the most loyal person she knew but chose to not mention her sister to the doppelganger. "Not yet," She thought as she turned back to face the said doppelganger who questioned why she still loved Klaus.
"He's my brother, and I'm immortal. Should I spend an eternity alone instead?" Elena gave her a look.
Rebekah tells Elena to leave and that she wants no part in her games. Elena asked why they shouldn't wake Mikael. The doppelganger argues that Klaus has a hold over her life and Stefan's as well.
"Do what you need. Wake Mikael at your own peril. But make no mistake, if you come after my brother I will rip you apart. And I get my temper from my father. " Rebekah threatened.
"Now leave." The blonde moved away and Elena quickly got out of the house.
~
After visiting the caves once again this time with Bonnie and Alaric, Elena makes a shocking discovery. She returns to the Salvatore house with evidence.
She explained to Rebekah that it was Klaus who killed their mother, not Mikael. Rebekah refused to believe. She took the photos and threw them in the fire. Elena asks her why she's so upset.
"Why are you doing this to me? I've done nothing to you." Rebekah asked with tears in her eyes.
"Klaus killed your mother. He has a hold on you, on me, on everyone. He has for a thousand years. We have to make it stop-"
"SHUT UP! JUST SHUT UP! DON'T TALK ANYMORE! NOTHING!" Rebekah yelled at her while pinning her against a wall. Her eyes turned red and black veins appeared on her face as she held Elena by the throat.
Then she lets Elena go, breaks down into tears, falls to the ground, and cries.

In this chapter we see how the Originals came to be and I obviously focused on Kassie's transformation.

lazy drawing of deaf/hoh bokuto (thats supposed to be corded ear gear btw 😭)
random hcs under cut
born nearly deaf
invested in hearing aids but it only helped a little
unfortunately bokuto was born too early for widespread proper jsl, so he learned the 'signed (spoken) japanese' version at a school for deaf kids along w oral communication
relearned jsl in like university or smth
also happened to meet kuroo who knew some jsl (learned w kenma when they were little)
also met akaashi who absolutely fell in love and took online jsl courses to try to communicate
anyways
he uses a bte
never really worried about how noticable it is, tho his parents did and tried to get him a ric first but those arent very durable esp when worn by a very excitable active kid
doesnt wear his hearing aid when he doesnt have to bc it itches
his voice is REALLY LOUD when hes not wearing it
um idk i didnt think abt this that much
if anyone has any deaf!bokuto fics tho pls let me know

For Rashad/Wei/Ric-- 43, 48 For Mateo/Mortum-- 15, 30 ?
Rashad/Wei/Ricardo
43) Who gets up early? Who stays in bed late?
Rashad gets up the earliest, if you count insomnia and PTSD nightmares as getting up early. Wei's close behind, as I don't think either sleep very soundly. Ricardo wakes up not long after, but definitely chooses to laze about in bed longer, especially if it's a day when they've got nothing planned. He's dragged them back into bed more times than Rashad can count or that Wei is willing to count.
48) If they ever had less that 5 mins to tell their S/O something before never seeing them again, what would they say?
As their relationships stand currently at the end of Retri...
Rashad: "There was nothing you could do to change this, but that doesn't mean nothing you did mattered. It mattered to me."
Wei: "Forgive each other. You were always stronger together."
Ricardo: "Make sure to only tell the flattering stories about me...and you were right. I wasn't ready. I'm sorry."
Mateo (or, specifically, as his puppet, Marianna)/Mortum
15) How do they comfort one another when the other is upset?
Because of the nature of their jobs involving a lot of secrecy, there isn't a lot that they can do involving talking about what might upset them or really getting to understand why they might be upset. So a lot of their comforts tend to involve distraction. Marianna will bring over a bottle of wine and Mortum will supply the gossip. They'll sit and laugh into the night. Buy each other a little peace to not think about their troubles.
30) Describe how one character would cheer the other up after a hard day.
If Mortum is having a hard day, Marianna will step out to grab some groceries and come back to cook. She (lovingly) strong-armed her way into bringing a portable stovetop into his lab kitchen and has been slowly filling his cabinets with spices and staple foods. She never tells him when she starts cooking, just lets the smell slowly fill the air and draw him in.
Cooking has always been a soothing practice for Mateo. It's a way to invite someone into your community, your family, your home. And with the way Mortum eats, he'd like to get the good doctor to eat a vegetable or two every now and then. And he likes the way Mortum smiles when he watches Marianna cook.

81 - Gemini Downfall Wedding
Part 82
Gemini Runaway
@icefrye19 @secretdreamlandmentality
Pushing my hands down the light blue dress I smiled feeling someone staring at me from the doorway. “It would be considered creepy if you weren’t my husband while you stare at me like that.”
“I just can’t help myself, Raelyn.” Klaus smiled when I turned to see he was wearing a black tux and a dark gray tie to go with it. “Honestly if I didn't have to hear the end of it. I would say we just skip the wedding and let me take that dress off you hmm.”
Rolling my eyes at him I draped my arms over his shoulders leaning up on my toes. “As much as I wish that too. Josette wouldn’t forgive me if I missed it. Plus she has assigned the girls to be her flower girls. So we have to go.”
Klaus drove us to the place where they had everything set up for the wedding. My husband sat behind my uncle Joshua while I was off somewhere else with the girls. “Okay so this is very important for cousin Jo. So just throw the pedals and meet mommy at the very end.” Alina, Missy and Hope all nodded in agreement.
My three triplets slowly walked down the row throwing the flowers where everyone turned to see Jo in her long white dress being led down by her father. She smiled at me and I smiled as he placed her hand in Ric’s going to find his seat. “They are so adorable and I’m glad you freed your husband.”
“Yes they are. You’re and Ric’s kids will be cute too.” I grinned standing beside Elena since she had asked us both to be her bridesmaids. “And oh yes I’m happy to have him back.”
The music stopped playing before the Reverend smiled brightly. “Welcome, family and friends, on this magical evening to the wedding of Alaric Saltzman and Josette Laughlin. Josette and Alaric have prepared their own vows.
Alaric held her hands almost making me start bawling at his vows. “Neither one of us should be here right now. We've spent our lives dodging fate and b*ating the odds, but because we did, I got to meet you, the most beautiful, hilarious, and intimidatingly brilliant woman I have ever known. You inspire me. You've shown me that happiness is actually something that I can have in my life. And so...I promise to be with you and love you and to dodge fate with you for the rest of our lives.”
The Reverend looked at my cousin. “Josette?”
Jo chuckled beginning her vows until I smelled blood, saw she stabbed through the stomach and her dress was red. “Oh, God. That's a tough act to follow. Here goes. Alaric Saltzman, you are…”
Alaric caught his soon to be wife collapsing into his arms. “Jo? Jo? Jo? Oh, my God. Jo? Jo? Jo?! Oh, God. No!”
She winced where I vamped from my seat, biting into my wrist drawing blood. “Aah! Aah!”
“Jo drink!” Shoving my wrist over her mouth she attempts to drink but she was losing too much blood too fast.
Alaric began crying, staring at me. “No! No, no, no, no.”
Suddenly before our eyes Kai appeared from being invisible standing beside Elena holding a bloody knife in his hand. “I was gonna wait till the "death do us part" bit, but it seemed a little on the nose. Am I right?”
Uncle Joshua rose to his feet about to do something with Klaus at his side with our girls but Kai raised his hand creating a large pitched sound spell. Everyone in the room dropped on the ground holding their heads in pain. “Miss me? No? Oh, well.” He waved his other hand, smashing the glass and dropping the chandeliers from above.
“Kai!” Uncle Joshua’s voice is the first thing I heard when I woke up. Rubbing my neck I frantically looked around for my husband and kids.
“Klaus! Hope…Alina…Missy!” I hollered getting to my feet gripping one of the seats.
Klaus called out where I rushed over seeing that the girls were slightly bleeding from the glass. “Raelyn! They barely have heartbeats…”
“Get them out of here and give them blood. I’ll stay here and deal with Kai.” I croaked brushing Missy’s hair for her face listening to their tiny hearts still beating. But if he waited any longer they might not make it.
He shook his head where I watched the wound on his forehead starting to heal over. The wound that was in my stomach had already healed so we were both okay. “I can’t leave you here, Rae. I will kill your uncle for this!”
“It’s not his fault now. It’s Kai’s. But we don’t have time to argue. Get them out of here before he tries to kill them.” I barked at my husband watching him pick his three daughters up vamping them out of the building where I turned my head seeing Alaric holding my dead cousin away from me.
Uncle raised his hand, beginning to chant a spell slowly walking towards Kai. “Sanguinem fillio sanguinem effurgarex.”
“Let me guess. Prison world?” Kai could hear the other members of our coven chanting the same spell. “I mean, you can't kill me, or else you all die, too, right?”
Uncle Joshua glanced in my direction calling out to me. “Raelyn, I’m sorry about your girls. We can handle him. I just need you to do your unliking spell that you did on me.”
“And why should I do that?” I spat the question at him even though I wanted to tear Kai limb from limb.
Joshua sent me a sensitive look where I could tell he was actually telling the truth to me for once in my life and he wasn’t screwing me over. “Raelyn please believe me now. Once he’s not linked to the rest of us you can spill his guts if you want. We just need his blood since he’s the leader now….if you help us I’ll never come after your family ever again you have my word.”
“Hey. I'm sorry about your twinsies. I just don't feel like competing for leadership with future Gemini twins.” Kai turned away from his father looking at Alaric holding his dead wife in his arms. “See...When your family decides that you're nothing but an irredeemable piece of trash, well… Guess the best thing to do is prove them right, right?
Raising my hand I drew Kai towards me shoving my hand inside my cousin’s chest. “Don’t try and talk your way out of this, Kai. You just killed the only person in this family I gave a damn about. So you deserve this!”
“If you kill me they die too…” Kai started gasping for breath with my hand wrapped around his heart.
Pushing my fingers tighter around it he gasped sharper when I got in his face vamping over to my uncle grasping his hand in mine since he had some cuts on his hand drawing out his blood. “I don’t give a crap about that anymore. You killed Josette and for that you don’t get to live!”
“Start chanting and I’ll follow you.” Uncle Joshua said, glancing at me where I let Kai’s blood drop at our feet. He squeezed my hand dropping his own blood onto his son’s.
Raising our hands up together I began chanting, never taking my eyes off of Kai. “Phasmatos tribum, nas ex veras. Uenes fes matos et somnos. Phasmatos tribum - agh!” Their blood started to separate until Kai launched a broken chair leg into my stomach causing me and Joshua to break hands breaking the unliking spell.
Kai quickly ran forward tackling me to the ground when I yanked the leg out of my stomach. He attempted to stab me in the stomach again with another piece of wood until I threw him backwards after launching the wooden chair leg with my blood inside his chest. “Ha ha thanks for that, cousin. Now I get to be judged like you.”
“What the heck are you talking about?” I asked getting to my feet looking towards my uncle seeing that he was about to run over to me and try the spell again.
Kai took the wooden piece out of his stomach, swiping his finger over where my bloody was on the other end sucking it off his finger. “This ought to do it.”
Joshua raised a hand screaming the split second that Kai used a glass shard he got from the ground and stabbed himself in the neck. “No!” Kai collapsed dead right in front of Ric and Jo.
“Get out of here, little niece. There’s nothing more we can do….protect your family.” Joshua shuttered when the other members of our coven stopped chanting and started slowly dying alongside Kai.
Vamping from the bloody wedding Klaus was waiting with the girls cupping my face in his hands scanning the blood stained dress. “Shhh I’m okay. I healed over remember.”
“I know, I know. I just….I…thought you were still linked to Kai.” He nodded through tears pulling me in for a tight hug. He gripped my hair in one hand with his other on my lower back.
Burying my face into his chest I gripped his shoulders I sniffed through tear’s finally getting the chance to deal with the fact that Josette was actually dead. “She’s gone…..he freaking murdered her. And I didn’t get the chance to murder him for it. Nik….Jo’s gone!”
Nik’s phone started ringing where we broke the embrace hearing Damon’s voice. “What do you want, Salvatore!”
“Don’t get snappy at me Klaus but I need to tell your siphon wife something she won’t believe.” I heard him say so he handed me the phone. “Whatever spell you tried to use on Kai to kill him before he could take vampire blood from you must have worked. Cause Bonnie Bennett is literally standing in my house.”
Running a hand through my hair I gasped through some happy tears. “You mean I broke her out of the prison world. That’s insane - uh we’re on our way.”
Klaus and I made it back to their house seeing the pair we’re sitting in front of the Salvatore fireplace since Kai had managed to siphon away the barrier spell over the town. Damon was looking at the picture Bonnie brought back from the 1903 prison world. “I don't get it. So you were in my house in a 1903 prison world.”
Bonnie takes out the video camera playing the video she took. “Watch this. I didn't know it was still on when I got pulled out.”
Damon rolled his eyes at the witch.“Congratulations. You shot some walls.”
Klaus and I leaned down closer watching the video when Bonnie told him. “Just wait.”
There was a woman’s voice on the camera that I slightly recognized from somewhere I just couldn’t place it. “Who are you?”
Bonnie's voice was on camera too. “Who are you?”
Damon took the camera from her hands. “Who is this?”
Bonnie instructs him where he hit the pause revealingly a woman with slightly curly raven black hair looking directly at the camera. “There. Stop.”
Damon: mumbles. “Oh, my God.”
Bonnie asked him, “What?”
Damon gasped in disbelief at the woman on camera. “It's my mother.”
“I don’t believe it…” I trailed off thinking back to the day I gave birth to our daughters and I somehow ended up in a prison world I didn’t know about.
Klaus glanced at me, squeezing my hand in his. “What is it, Rae?”
“I have freaking met her before.” I sucked in a breath when Damon shifted around to me on the couch with shock written on his face. “She was in a prison world….meaning that she’s a vampire.”

Klaus Mikaelson x Soulmate!Reader x Elijah Mikaelson Pt.
Word Count- 5.5k
Warnings- Swearing, violence, spoilers for canon, abusive dads, trauma, reader having bad responses to her trauma.
“Wait, you’re telling me that I miss ghosts coming back and terrorizing Damon just because I went to a doctor’s appointment?”
I deadpan at Ric as he looked over a bunch of pictures and drawings they had found in some mystery tunnel.
“That’s what you get for going to the doctor,” Damon smirks at me as he and Elena spar.
“Oh, I’m sorry, Demon. Next time I just won’t get shot,” I shoot a glare at him and he rolls his eyes. Elena uses this moment to try to throw a punch at the vampire but Damon easily catches it.
Elena sighs defeated and then turns to me, “How did your appointment go? Any good news?”
I roll my left shoulder and then shrug, “Nothing really new. The doctor did say I’m healing faster than anyone he’s seen before though,” This gains all three of their attention, “He chalked it up to my wonderful youth.”
“Well that’s good,” Elena smiles happily.
“And he said he liked my birthmark.”
“You have a birthmark?”
I look over to Ric who is looking at me questionably.
“Ya, she’s got like a smudge on her shoulder,” Damon jests and I glare at him.
“It’s not a smudge you asshat.”
“Don’t be mean Damon,” Elena defends me, “Personally I love Y/N’s birthmark. I think it’s cute. Almost looks kinda like the moon.”
I walk over to Elena and we both glare at the blue-eyed vamp who just rolls his eyes again.
“Thank you, my love,” I look over to my best friend who is sporting a light pink tint to her cheeks at the nickname.
“Of course, my beautiful best friend,” Elena smiles back and we both giggle.
“Can y'all just kiss and get it over with,” Damon groans out.
“You wish you had a boyfriend the way I have my girlfriend, Damon. Your jealousy is oozing off of you,” I smile at the man and he purses his lips and then goes over to Ric.
A buzzing in my pocket has me separating from my friend and grabbing my phone.
“Oh shit,” I whisper out and quickly grab my jacket off a nearby chair.
“Where are you going,” Elena asks to me as I book it to the front door.
“Theo’s tire popped and he’s supposed to be at practice in 2 minutes. So I have to go rescue him. Toddles!”
—
“Thanks for picking me up,” I groan as Theo grabs his football padding from the trunk of my car and puts them into my arms.
“Ya, whatever,” I struggle to carry it all as Theo closes the trunk and makes me follow him towards the school.
“Dude take your shit before I drop it,” I groan out to my brother who turns back and gives me a look before dramatically sighing and grabbing the gear from my hands.
“You need to start hitting weights. I’m bulking up this season so you can join me,” My brother says excitedly.
I stare at him in disgust, “Oh ya cause that sounds like great sibling bonding time to me.”
“Do you know how many people would kill to be my sibling,” Theo asks and I shoot him a blank look.
“Many people, nerd. Many a people,” I fight the urge to laugh at my brother’s dramatics as his mood instantly brightens, “There’s the guys! I got to go, see you later nerd.”
I stand there for a moment as I watch my brother run off to his teammates. Oddly enough though after going like 10 feet he stops and turns around. He quickly runs over to me and for a second I think he’s going to knock me down but instead, he balances his gear on one hand, and with the other he side-hugs me.
“Even though other people want to be my sibling, I wouldn’t want any of those hoes,” Theo lets go of me and gives me a boyish grin, “You’re kind of a cool sister. Even if you are a nerd.”
Theo turns back around and I can’t fight the huge smile that comes over my face as I watch my little brother instantly start bickering with his teammates.
“You guys have a cute relationship,” A feminine British voice makes my smile instantly drop.
“Hello Rebekah,” I turn around and come face to face with the pretty blonde Mikaelson.
“That’s your little brother I assume. He looks just like you,” She smiles at me but I don’t return it.
“What do you want?”
Rebekah doesn’t seem to be unsettled by my prickly attitude as she continues talking.
“I was wondering if you’d like to get lunch with me. Or perhaps go dress shopping? Homecoming is coming up and I’ve never been to one so I could use some help.”
My eyes narrow in confusion, “You’ve never been to a homecoming? Aren’t you like a million years old?”
Rebekah seems momentarily annoyed by my comment but quickly brushes it off, “I spent much of my life following my brothers around. Neither of which care for the dramatics that come with high school. So no, I haven’t been to a high school dance.”
I think about what she said for a moment and a smirk graces my lips at the thought of posh Elijah at a homecoming dance.
“You’re not missing out on much,” I pick at the thread of my shirt, “I mean, not that I would know. I’ve never been to one either.”
At this Rebekah frowns, “You’ve never been! Why not?”
I shrug at Rebekah’s question, “Public places with tons of people aren’t really my thing. I’d rather be alone than be in a room with a bunch of drunk, loud teenagers.”
I move around the Original and start walking towards my car but inwardly groan when I hear her footsteps behind me.
“Great! Then we can experience it for the first time together!”
I bite my lip in anger and whip around, “What are you doing?”
Rebekah’s face morphs into one of confusion, “What do you mean?”
I gesture to her and then to me, “This! Why are you trying so hard to be around me? Did your brother put you up to this? He’s already making Alastair follow me around like a dog, so what about you?”
At my outburst, the girl frowns, “I heard about what my brother did. His ways of caring for people aren’t always shown in the best ways,” She smiles softly at me, “But I swear to you my brother didn’t put me up to this. I just…would like a friend…I would like you to be my friend.”
I look at Rebekah and try to find any signs of deceit in her face but I can’t seem to find any.
“You can’t just have friends, Rebekah. Friendships are built on trust. I can’t be friends with you unless you prove to me that I can trust you.”
Rebekah seems to take this as a approval as she quickly nods her head, “Great! Then I’ll just make you trust me. Can I have your phone number so I can text you? That’s what it is called right? I’m still quite new to this ages technology.”
I sigh and then reach out my hand and Rebekah smiles grabbing her phone from her pocket and placing it in my hand. I go to her contacts and type in my number and hand the phone back to the smiling blonde.
I turn around and head to my car but hear the blonde call after me.
“I’ll text you!”
—
Rebekah wasn’t joking when she said she’d text me because approximately an hour later I’m pulling up to the Salvatore house because she practically begged me to meet her here.
“Y/N? What are you doing here?”
I turn around and spot Elena getting out of her SUV.
“Rebekah asked me to come,” I frown at my friend’s worried expression, “What are you doing here?”
“She asked me to come as well.”
Elena and I warily eye each other for a moment before walking up to the front door. Elena goes first as she pushes the front door open and my ears are assaulted by loud pop music.
Elena shoots me a look over her shoulder and I shrug as we make our way into the foyer. We begin walking into the living room but stop when a smiling She-Klaus walks over to us with champagne in her hands.
“Hey, what’s up?”
“You invited me over to talk,” Elena says from beside me, not matching Rebekah’s cheery attitude.
“I’m not exactly sure why I’m here,” I raise a finger.
Rebekah looks at us and then turns around, “Alright, girls. Have at it.”
I’m confused on who she’s talking to for a moment but then when a group of girls wearing homecoming dresses enter the living room in a line, I have my answer.
“What the hell,” I whisper to Elena who looks as shocked and confused as me.
“Okay, now twirl, please,” Rebekah asks the girls and I watch in disgust as they all oblige.
“You’ve compelled your own private runway show?”
I nod along to Elena’s question because I’m also thinking the same.
“I need a homecoming dress. So what do you think? Pick one” Rebekah says as if this is totally normal behavior.
“I know you’re new to this whole thing…and century. But most people just go to the store and try on the dresses. Not compel a bunch of innocent girls to parade around in them.”
Rebekah frowns at me.
“We’re not here to help you shop. I’m here to talk about why you don’t want me to wake up Mikael.”
Rebekah smirks at Elena’s comment for a moment before flashing behind a blonde girl. I jump back slightly as I watch her fangs protrude from her gums as she puts them near the girl's throat.
Elena takes a step forward and I follow.
“I said pick one, Elena.”
Elena looks a me for a moment before pointing to one of the girls, “The red one.”
“There,” Rebekah smooths out the blonde girl's hair, “That wasn’t so hard, was it? Go away. Remember nothing.”
I watch disturbed as the girls walk back out of the room and Rebekah comes back over to us.
“You do not threaten me,” Rebekah stares Elena down and I move slightly in front of my friend, “You will learn what I allow you to learn. Is that clear?”
Elena nods from beside me and Rebekah moves around us and out of the room. Elena and I shoot each other another look before following the girl upstairs and into Stefan’s room where Rebekah is starting to go through the broody vampire’s things.
“We shouldn’t be here,” Elena says standing next to me in the doorway.
“Of course, we should,” Rebekah says as she picks up a pair of boxers, making me frown in disgust, “Come on. Like you’ve never wanted to snoop. Boxer briefs. Now that’s a change from the ‘20s.”
“Ew. TMI.”
“Are you gonna root through his stuff all night or are you gonna start to tell us your story?”
Rebekah sighs, “You really are no fun,” She turns to me, “Why are you friends with such a bore?”
“One thing you should learn about me Rebekah,” I glare at the blonde, “I am not friends with people who insult my friends.”
Rebekah stares at me for a moment before rolling her eyes and muttering something under her breath.
“What do you want to know?”
Elena takes a step into the room, “Elijah said that your father was a landowner in Europe. How did you guys end up here?”
At the mention of the suited Original, a warm feeling brushes my cheeks.
“My parents had just started a family when a plague struck their homeland. They lost a child to it. They wanted to escape and protect their future family from the same fate.”
A wave of sadness washes over me at the mention of Rebekah losing her sibling. I couldn’t imagine what I would do if I ever lost Theo. No matter how many headaches he gives me, the boy is practically my son.
“So how did you end up here,” Elena prods, “This part of the world hadn’t been discovered yet.”
Rebekah scoffs, “Not by anyone in your history books. But my mother knew the witch Ayana who heard from the spirits of a mystical land where everyone was healthy. Blessed by the gifts of speed and strength. That led my family here where we lived amongst those people.”
“The werewolves?”
“To us, they were just our neighbors. My family lived in peace with them for over 20 years during which my family had more children including me.”
“So… technically you’re American?”
My question has both of the girls shooting me frowns but I lightly laugh at myself for the comment.
“You make it sound so normal,” Elena comments.
Rebekah walks towards a window and for a second I can see a thoughtful smile on her face, “It was. Once a month our family retreated to the caves underneath our village. The wolves would howl through the night and by morning we’d return home. One full moon, Klaus and my youngest brother Henrik snuck out to watch the men turn into beasts. That was forbidden. Henrik paid the price.”
A deep breath escapes my lips as the girl continues her story.
“And that was the beginning of the end of peace with our neighbors,” Rebekah turns back to look at us, “And one of the last moments my family had together as humans.”
The buzzing of Elena’s phone distracts us.
Rebekah coughs, “You better get that. That’ll be…Damon checking up on you.”
Elena turns around and answers the call as I walk over to Stefan’s desk and start rummaging through his things. I never said I was a Saint.
“Was that Stefan?’’
Elena’s question has me turning around and frowning.
“Damon, how could you let him out,” Elena exclaims and I frown.
“That didn’t sound good.”
—
“Did you get your fill of snooping yet,” Elena asks Rebekah who is lying down on Stefan’s bed reading one of his many diaries, “Can we get on with the story?”
I watch from my seat on the floor as Rebekah throws the book onto the bed and stands up. She walks over to the desk by Elena and picks up a framed picture of the couple.
“Honestly, I don’t get you two as a couple,” Rebekah shakes her head at my friend.
“Why would you? You don’t know anything about who he really is,” Elena defends and Rebekah smiles at her and puts the frame back down.
Rebekah leans down to make eye contact with my friend and I straighten up, “I know exactly who he is. He’s a vampire. We’re a predatory species. We don’t have time to care about humans and their silly little lives.”
“I don’t believe that,” I say but they don’t hear me. Or at least don’t acknowledge me.
“Is that why you did that runway show earlier,” Elena snarks back and I bite my lip nervously as I have the feeling that a catfight is about to begin, “Because you don’t care about the homecoming dance?”
Rebekah stands up and Elena nods at her, “You know what? I’m just gonna go,” She turns to me, “Y/N you coming?”
I groan as I can practically hear my bones creaking as I stand up.
“You haven’t even heard half the story,” Rebekah calls to Elena.
Elena turns around to her, “And you’re not going to tell it. You’re just bored and looking for someone to push around. Find someone else to play with. Maybe you can compel yourself a friend.”
OOP.
“The necklace wasn’t Stefan’s to give,” At Rebekah’s words I instantly sit my ass back down. This time on the comfy mattress.
“It belonged to the original witch.”
Elena turns around, “The one who put the hybrid curse on Klaus?”
“Not just the hybrid curse. She’s the one who turned us into vampires.”
My mouth drops open, “Bomb drop…”
—
“Vampirism was a form of protection?”
Elena asks as Rebekah continues telling her story as we make our way down the stairs.
“What else would it be?”
“A curse.”
“My parents only sought a way of keeping their children alive,” Rebekah answers.
“Yeah, but why stay? If they were so afraid of the werewolves why not leave?”
“Pride,” Rebekah says as she steps off the last stair and turns back to us, “My father didn’t want to run anymore. He wanted to fight and be superior to the wolves. Where they could bite we had to bite harder. Where they had speed we had to be faster. Agility, strength, senses.’’
Rebekah continues telling us the story of how the spell of vampirism came down to her mother’s hands since the other witch wouldn’t help them.
“In her hands? How could she do anything?”
Elena asks and I feel like I already know the answer. I mean if they’re called “The Originals,” I’m assuming the “Original” witch has something to do with them.
“Because my mother was also a witch.”
“What?”
“The witch of the original family.”
“The original witch,” I finish for her and Rebekah smirks at me.
We make our way into the living room and I plant myself on my favorite couch.
“Where do they keep their best vintage,” Rebekah asks.
“But if your mother was a witch then..”
“Am I? No,” The vampire finishes, “A witch is nature’s servant. A vampire is an abomination of nature. You can either be one or the other never both,” Rebekah fishes out a bottle of wine and then turns to Elena, “My mother did this for us. She did not turn.”
“How did you turn?”
Rebekah pours herself a glass and then walks over to the fireplace, “She called upon the sun for life and the ancient white oak tree one of nature’s eternal objects, for immortality. That night, my father offered us wine laced with blood.”
I almost gag at that.
“And then he drove his sword through our hearts.”
My heart clenches as Rebekah’s voice slightly cracks.
“He killed you,” Elena says.
“And he wasn’t delicate about it either,” Rebekah says with tears and her eyes and quickly breaks the cap off the wine bottle.
“We had to drink more blood to complete the ritual. It was euphoric. The feeling of power was indescribable. But the witch Ayana was right about consequences. The spirits turned on us and nature fought back. For every strength, there would be a weakness. The sun became our enemy. It kept us indoors for weeks. Although my mother found a solution. There were other problems. Neighbors who had opened their homes for us could now keep us out. Flowers at the base of the white oak burned and prevented compulsion. And the spell decreed that the tree that gave us life could also take it away. So we burned it to the ground.”
Metal.
“But the darkest consequence is something my parents never anticipated. The hunger. Blood had made us reborn and it was blood that we craved above all else. We could not control it. And with that… the predatory species was born.”
“I need a cigarette,” I say out loud as I sigh into my hands at the migraine of an origin story.
“Why did Mikael start hunting Klaus,” Elena asks not giving anyone time to catch their breaths.
“When Nik made his first human kill,” Nik? “It triggered his werewolf gene. With that, he came my father’s greatest shame.”
“Yeah,” Elena responds, “Elijah told us this part of the story. Your mother had had an affair with one of the werewolf villagers.”
I look down at my hands as Elena and Rebekah continue speaking about Klaus’ father and I have to fight back showing any emotion as I think back to my own father, or not father I guess.
“She tried to make it right. She put the hybrid curse on Nik to suppress his werewolf side and then she turned her back on him. But Mikael’s greatest weakness as a human was his pride. As a vampire that was magnified. He went on a rampage and killed half the village.”
Here, I thought my father leaving his family was the worst thing one could do in that situation.
“Then he came home and killed her.”
“Mikael killed your mother?”
“He said she broke his heart so he would hers. He tore it from her chest as Nik watched. Afterwards, my father took off in a rage and the rest of my family scattered. Nik stayed so he could help me bury her. He knew I had to say goodbye to my mother.”
I listen to the rest of Rebekah’s heartbreaking story as she recalls how she and Elijah promised Klaus that the three of them would always be together. Always and forever.
“Always and forever. Even though he locked you in a coffin for 90 years,” Elena says and I shoot a look at her.
“Dude, really?”
“We’re vampires. Our emotions are heightened. I’m stubborn, Elijah moral, and Nik…Nik has no tolerance for those who disappoint him. Over a thousand years as a family we’ve all made that mistake at least once. I’ve made it several times.”
As Rebekah’s voice softens I have to fight the urge to reach out and comfort her. Being someone who knows what it feels like to be the one disappointing a family member, I can’t help but relate and feel sorry for the girl.
“But you still love him?”
“He’s her brother, Elena,” I turn to her, “What if it were Jeremy? I know that if it were Theo, I couldn’t hate him. Even if he made my life a living hell.”
“She’s right,” Rebekah looks over to me and I can see the appreciation in her eyes, “And I’m immortal. Should I spend an eternity alone instead?”
Rebekah swallows and I think she’s about to start crying but she quickly walks by both of us, “You’ve heard the story. It’s time to go,” She turns to Elena who is just standing there, “I said leave, Elena! I don’t know what you’re up to but I am no longer playing along.”
“I’m just looking for one good reason why we shouldn’t wake Mikael.”
At Elena’s words I frown, “Are you serious Elena? The man literally killed his own children! After, abusing them their whole lives. You may have grown up in a white-picket fence family, but I didn’t. I know men like that, and men like that should stay away.”
Elena looks at me and from the look on her face, she doesn’t seem to understand why I’m defending Rebekah.
“She will anyway,” Rebekah shakes her head, “I know you want him to help you kill my brother. I’m not stupid.”
“It’s no secret that I want Klaus dead. He has a hold over Stefan’s life and over mine,” Elena points back to me, “And he’s terrorizing Y/N.”
Rebekah glares down at her, “Do what you need. Wake Mikael at your own peril. But make no mistake. If you come after my brother I will rip you apart. And I get my temper from my father. Now leave.”
Elena looks down and then back to me, “Y/N, come on.”
I look at my friend and then at the vampire, “You go. I have to talk to Rebekah.”
This seems to shock both of them, but I just stare at them blankly. Elena takes this as goodbye as she nods her head and leaves the house.
After Elena leaves Rebekah and I stand there in silence for a moment, and awkwardly I clear my throat.
“Um, I’m sorry.”
Rebekah looks over to me confused, “What are you sorry for? You did nothing to insult me, unlike your friend.”
I frown at Elena’s behavior and then play with the loose thread on my shirt, “For losing your brother. And your mother. You were just a teenage girl when that happened. You didn’t deserve to have that happen to you.”
Rebekah stares at me almost shocked before she shakes her head and walks over to the couch I’m sitting on.
“You have nothing to apologize for. It was over a thousand years ago, I’m over it.”
Rebekah sits on the seat next to me and we watch the flames of the fire.
“I don’t believe that. I think a loss like that stays with you. Even after a millennia.”
Rebekah turns to look at me and then nods her head softly, “Thank you, Y/N.”
We continue sitting in silence before I see her move out of the corner of my eye.
“What did you mean,” I turn to her in confusion as she speaks, “When you told Elena you didn’t grow up like she did and you knew about men like my father?”
At Rebekah’s question, I turn away from her curious glance and look back towards the flames, “It doesn’t matter.”
“You can tell me you know? It’s not like I have any other friends to go spill your secrets to.”
At Rebekah’s words, I bite down hard on my lip to try to stop the tears that are making their way into my eyes. The urge to finally spill on the secret that I’ve been holding in all summer, building inside of me.
“My father…growing up wasn’t the kindest man,” I say out loud trying to be careful with my words, “He was absent a lot but… those were the good moments, oddly enough, because, whenever he did come home… he was,” I stop, trying to find the right words to describe my estranged “not” father, “he was harsh. Nothing was ever good enough for him. No one was ever good enough for him. Certainly not me. He was the stereotypical macho man who thought that women weren’t equal to men. So whenever I showed strength in something, he made sure to kick me back down. Just to remember how weak I could be.”
I don’t realize I’m crying until Rebekah places a tissue into my hands. I’m not really sure where she got it but I take it and wipe away my tears.
“You mention him in past tense…is he…”
I shake my head, “No, he’s not dead. He and my mother separated about two years ago. I haven’t seen him since.”
Rebekah doesn’t say anything as she waits to see if I’ll continue and I sigh as I try to.
“I didn’t know why they did. My mother always just kind of let it happen you know? The abuse. I don’t even know if you would call it that. It’s not like he hit me or whatever. Others have had it worse. My mother though just always told me not to provoke him, not to make him mad. But, she really wasn’t ever the one who got the brunt of it,” I bite down on my lip harder, “And you want to know the worst thing about it? Three months ago my mother told me that the man that had made me cry into my pillow since I was 8 years old… wasn’t even my actual father.”
I hear Rebekah let in a breath as she continues watching me.
“How fucked up is that, you know,” I laugh with tears in my eyes at the irony of it all.
“Did she tell you who your real father was?”
I shake my head at her question, “Just the bare minimum. I’ve barely talked to her since that day anyway. It’s the reason I have my own room down the hall,” I point towards the direction of my room at the Salvatore’s, “Damon’s let me crash here the entire summer. He’s the only other person who knows.”
“Not even your brother?”
I quickly shake my head and wipe the rest of my tears away, “Especially not, Theo. He’s so young and with the move and everything I don’t want him to be stressed out.”
I can see Rebekah looking at me as if she’s trying to find the right words to say, “Is that the only reason you haven’t told him?’’
My eyebrows furrow as I keep staring at the fireplace, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“I think you’re worried that he won’t accept you. Nik had that same fear after he found out he wasn’t Mikael’s.”
“I am not Klaus,” I bite out and she just nods.
“I know. But you can’t deny the similarities,” I don’t say anything as I try not to think of her words, “I know I haven’t been here very long but… just from seeing Theo and you a few times, I don’t think you have to worry about telling him. If he truly loves you he’ll accept you no matter what.”
I finally think about Rebkeah’s words and in doing so, don’t even notice the front door being swung open.
Rebekah sighed deeply from beside me as she stood up, “I thought I told you to leave twice.”
“How do you know Mikael killed your mother,” Elena’s question has me turning slightly to hear her better.
“Nik was there,” Rebekah says as she pours herself a drink, “He told me.”
Elena sighs and she steps closer to Rebekah, “He lied to you.”
“And how do you know that?”
Elena walks over to us and I put my face down slightly so she can’t see the dried tears on my cheeks.
“The cave where you carved your family’s names, is covered in symbols. The story of your family. How your parents arrived, how they made peace, the spell that turned them into vampires, and this,” She places a photograph on the table, “This is the symbol for hybrid. It’s the combination of the werewolf and the vampire symbol. And this is the one for your mother.”
“Her necklace.”
Elena sighs, “And this is the story of her death. The hybrid killed the original witch. Not Mikael, Klaus.”
I turn fully at them both. Surprise is most likely clear on my face.
“No,” Rebekah forcefully shakes her head, “No, he wouldn’t.”
“She put the curse on him, made it so that he would be the only one of his kind and then she rejected him. With the werewolf gene comes aggression and violence. When he turned all of that was heightened. He killed her, Rebecca, and then he made up this entire lie about your father so that he wouldn’t lose you.”
“These mean nothing. They’re just stupid drawings done by stupid people who had no idea who my family was,” Rebekah yells as she grabs the pictures and flings them into the fireplace.
Elena approaches her, “Then why are you so upset?”
“Elena stop, just leave her alone,” I tell my friend but she ignores me.
“Why are you doing this to me? I’ve done nothing to you,” Rebekah yells at her.
“Klaus killed your mother. He has a hold on you, on me, on everyone. He has for a thousand years. We have to make it stop!”
“Shut up! Just shut up! Don’t talk anymore! Nothing!”
I quickly stand up as Rebekah pushes Elena into the wall forcefully.
“Rebekah!”
After a moment Rebekah drops her hands and stands there silently with tears in her eyes. Elena and I watch cautiously but not even a moment later a sob escapes the blonde’s mouth as she drops to her knees. Elena looks over to me and I shake my head at her.
“Go.”
I don’t even check to see if she leaves as I kneel down to the sobbing girl. I place a comforting hand on her shoulder and I gasp as I’m being pulled into a hug. Rebekah holds onto me for dear life as she cries into my shoulder. And I let her.
—
I sigh as I throw my keys onto my kitchen table and sit down. I put my head in my hands and try to forget the shitshow that was tonight.
“Damn bitch!”
Theo’s screech has me whipping around in my chair in shock. My brother stands there in his satin pajamas he got for Christmas last year with a hand over his heart.
“Fucking sitting in the dark like some goddamn stalker,” Theo walks over to the light switch and I try to stop him but it’s too late.
Theo’s smirk instantly drops as he rushes over to me and places his hands on the sides of my face, “What happened? Did someone say something to you? If it was someone at school tell me and I and Jeremy will go beat their asses right now.”
My brother’s angry tone has me smiling for a moment but before I can stop it tears are streaming out of my eyes and a sob escapes my mouth.
My little brother just stands there awkwardly as he pats my shoulder.
“Do you want to talk about it? Um, should I call Elena or Mom?”
At the mention of our mother, I quickly shake my head, “No. I’m fine. Just a long day and all. I just need some sleep. Go back to bed, Theodore.”
Theo shakes his head and tries to deny my request but I shoo him away. As I watch his retreating figure I sigh and take a deep breath.
“Actually Theo…there’s something we need to talk about.”

Dreams have been interesting lately.
My dreams have been really wild lately but also have been very therapeutic. I swear I do so much inner work in my dreams it's ridiculous. Can't I just rest? No? I do feel healed at least, empowered.
-
Anyway, to the fun part. I had a very short dream I was at a cafe and everyone there was extremely rude, servers and customers alike. I'm standing in line forever when someone reaches over my shoulder to pick up their coffee. I follow their arm and see it's E/ric B/ogosian standing behind me. Suddenly I don't care about the stupid cafe and the ridiculous line. I sputter out a few words, very real to life as I'm super shy. I let him know he's everyone's favorite vampire. He's surprised with that and says he hasn't even done anything yet. I tell him it doesn't matter, he's still the favorite at least from what I've seen. He is holding a book, but I can't see what it is. He's very sweet and talks with me for a bit. His food order arrives, and he grabs that. He goes, "next time you should order online so you don't have to wait around as long." He smiles, winks, and off he goes. I'm standing there like how did no one else not notice him!? Then of course the dream had to take a weird turn. There's a naked woman walking around and everyone is acting like it's normal. She pulls me aside and tells me the shady back story of the cafe. Somehow, I believe her. She finds a black trench coat she stashed away and puts it on, doesn't button it though. I'm thinking if she's going undercover how is being naked not drawing attention...but it worked! Dream logic I guess. I then wake up not sure what to make of any of it.
Also, when I wake up, I hear music in my head. Does anyone else get that? I've been getting that a lot lately. For some reason I hear this song & specifically this version:
Normally I get songs I've recently listened to, like residue bouncing around in my head. I haven't listened to this in a few years. I find that interesting.
I need to start keeping a dream journal again. I found an old one I had in high school some years ago but lost it again. I have a theory I have my most vivid dreams when Bleu also sleeps. His dreams are very wild.

Summary: Rictavio Frye is the son of famous monster hunter Julius Frye. While Rozalin was busy solving an unfortune murder, at the same time the Fryes were also attending Count Decan's party for less than ideal reasons: A vampire had managed to worm its way among the elitist class of Hope's Landing and it was up to the seasoned hunters to find and stop it before it preys on more victims. Of course just as Rozalin had learned, things rarely go according to plan.
-----
The party was in full swing and guests were indulging their every whim: plates piled to the point it wasn’t unusual to see a pieces of food trailing after their unsuspecting consumers. Impossibly beautiful and elegant articles of clothing donned by less than pious patrons performing unsavory acts. Scandalous, appalling gossip shared freely among grim grins with barely concealed loathing behind cheery glossy gazes.
Rictavio should’ve really been a poet.
“Son.” His father Julius gave him a pointed nudge “Stare any longer and you’ll draw attention to yourself.”
Julius Simon Frye cut an imposing contrast to his son: Julius’s eyes were a warm brown unlike Rictavio’s stormy grays. His father’s dark brown hair was long enough to tie in a refined ponytail while his own was a black short wavy mess he could never manage to tame. The master monster hunter had a build befitting a man of his legacy: Average height yet muscular, his clothing perfectly form fitting, perhaps too much so. Ric was a fair bit taller with his own runner’s build less obvious to the naked eye. His father sported a rugged full beard while Ric’s face remained clean.
The pair were dressed to the nines: matching black dress coats to hide the various weaponry stashed in their pockets. White collared shirts though his father went with his signature dark blood red vest and tie. Rictavio opted for a more modest light blue vest, no tie and unbuttoned the top button to let his neck breathe. Black dress pants though they committed a social faux pas by wearing cleaned but otherwise inappropriate hiking boots. The only accessory visibly possessed by either of them was a cane the younger Frye required to move easier.
Both were expecting their outfits were allow them to blend in easily.
They were wrong.
Rictavio glanced first at his father’s clothing then his own “Our outfits would draw more attention to us than anything else we did. I’m 95% sure I just saw a jacket lined with actual gold. Besides, we were only granted entry because they wanted the novelty of boasting they saw a world famous monster hunter at Count Decan’s org…”
“Just because it’s true does not mean you should say it.”
“Imagine what they’d say if they knew you were working.”
“We.” Julius corrected sternly “No wandering gaze Rictavio. I’m too young to be a grandfather.”
Rictavio scoffed playfully “No worries there. Excessive displays of cruelty, indifference and decadence are not very attractive traits in a potential partner.”
“A vampire’s playground.” Julius murmured grimly.
“Not going to lie. If it wasn’t for my personal integrity, I’d be half tempted to let the creature just roam freely and clean up the mess after.”
Julius chuckled as a dark thought crossed his mind “Do you really want one of these fine folks to be an undead creature of hunger?”
Rictavio planted his cane firmly onto the ground while he straightened his stance.
“We should probably get to work.”
His father smirked impishly “That’s the spirit son! Keep an eye out for anyone exceedingly cozy with their companion.”
Rictavio casted a side glance to a room he dubbed ‘the make out closet’ because every occupants within were intensely trying to eat each others face.
“Like that?” he dramatically pointed at the previously mentioned room, leaning on his good leg to keep his balance.
Julius let out a hearty chuckle “Fair point. They’ll be trying to lure their prey to a quieter place, somewhere they could feed without being disturbed. Preferably…”
“Being able to ditch the body before it’s discovered there was an unholy creature lurking about.” The younger Frye chimed in with a bored tone “I know the tactics Da but there’s no private place available: People are dancing below us and the second floor is packed with guests and guards. Any room that’s opened is supposed to be and every room that isn’t is being watched heavily. At this rate the poor hellspawn is going to go to bed hungry.”
“Then what would you do if you were in its fangs?”
Rictavio paused thoughtfully, taking a moment to flit through the possibilities. Realization dawned on his face.
“Distraction?” Rictavio pursed his lips “That leaves a little too much up to chance, no?”
Julius shook his head “You clearly know nothing of Count Decan. How I envy you.”
“I care little for any noble and their….activities.” Rictavio shrugged his shoulders apathetically.
“You should not be so quick to dismiss people son. You need to know them as well as the beasts we hunt if you wish to stay ahead. Count Decan loves being the center of attention.”
Rictavio groaned unhappily “There’s a fucking speech? Gods no.”
Julius patted his son with a knowing grin “Pick a corner and keep your eyes off the pretty lasses.”
“No promises.”
-----
“The murderer is the Count himself.”
Rictavio’s whistle was lost in the sudden uproar of varying reactions to the detective’s bold claim.
What he had been expecting was a stuffy, pompous noble breathing hot air for a few minutes. What he had gotten was a murder mystery by a cute detective and watching the Count turn different shades of colors yet it was a distraction all the same.
Before he could get too comfortable he heard his father’s whistle. He glanced upwards at the second floor to see the older hunter motioning him to come. With a disappointed sigh Rictavio hurriedly made his way up the stairs.
“We must work quickly.” Julius said in a hushed whisper “We have no idea how long the crowd will be enraptured by the sudden turn of events and a cornered beast…”
“Is a dangerous beast.” Rictavio finished in a serious tone, thinking more of the Count than the vampire they hunted.
The second floor was devoid of any human life as all guests and guards currently a floor below enjoying the free entertainment unexpectedly provided for them.
The younger Frye began to search when he felt his father nudge his side gently. Julius pointed to a previously locked room now pried open, its handle snapped off with inhuman brutality and strength.
The two shared a quick nod before preparing for the fight: Julius produced a dagger from his boot and coiled whip from his coat pocket. Rictavio gripped his cane tightly as he fiddled with some sort of contraption under his weaker side’s pant leg.
“Will your device hold?” Julius asked, unable to keep the concern out of his voice.
Rictavio’s face winced in concertation as he began to move his leg experimentally, the sounds of creaking and scraping metal barely audible.
“I believe the brace will hold.” Rictavio grimaced uncomfortably “It seems to be working at least. I should have enough movement to deal with the beast but let’s not prolong the fight if we can help it.”
“Aye son.”
The two wore matching determined, grim looks: Julius, dagger and whip at the ready while Rictavio held his cane in both hands.
They approached as quietly as they could with only the odd creak of Rictavio’s brace and the detective’s distant words breaking the silence.
The Fryes pressed themselves against the wall, straining to hear anything that may be occurring within.
Rictavio’s blood boiled as he could hear the ever so muted noises of fluid draining among the sounds of weaken, labored breathing and slow shuffling of feet.
Julius acted first, however, flinging open the door while uncoiling his whip to full length in one fluid motion.
The room was massive yet nearly empty: A few chairs knocked over as a large circular table lay in the center. There were no lights within, either turned off or destroyed, so the shadows began to form into odd, monstrous shapes with brief illumination from the outside. Two blood red orbs gleamed in the dark, shifting from its prey to the intruders.
Julius wasted no time. He lashed the whip towards the vampire.
The vampire dropped his victim, roughly shoving the poor redheaded girl Rictavio noticed earlier to the floor. He fell onto all fours, the whip narrowly missing his head with a resounding crack. The vampire hissed and growled angrily, its legs tensing to pounce forward.
Julius gave his enemy no quarter: He threw his dagger directly at the creature’s forehead. The vampire, startled, leapt to his feet. The dagger sunk harmlessly into the beast’s knee as he pulled away from the hunter and light, flailing.
Julius pulled his whip back before lashing out once more. The vampire tried to move backwards but it had been undead for so long it had forgotten that it was once a human. Its knee was forcibly straightened, the blade stuck in the joint that caused the creature to sway uneasily on a stiffen leg. The whip hit its mark this time, striking the vampire in the shoulder. It snarled and scratched at the air wildly while its shoulder began to smoke and hissed with the sound of burning flesh.
The creature learned quickly, pulling the dagger free from its knee and throwing it back at Julius with inhuman strength. The older Frye barely managed to dive out of the way, avoiding injury but he could hear the ripping of fabric.
The creature surged forward, knee fully healed and fingernails now as long as small blades. Julius was still rising to his feet when the vampire reached for his throat.
Rictavio sprung into action, leaping from his hiding spot and swinging his cane for the back of the creature’s leg. Buckling under pressure the vampire crashed to the floor, scratching the marble tile.
“Whoops.” Rictavio said insincerely.
The vampire whirled about, fangs snarling in rage. It lunged to claw at the younger hunter but Rictavio was ready. With a click of a button Ric pulled free the sword hidden within his cane and deflected the attack just in time. His brace groaned under the added weight but it seemed to be holding for the moment.
The vampire pressed forward, trying to throttle his neck but Ric dug the cane deep into its shoulder, pushing it far enough back it could not reach any of his vulnerable sports. So his body in general.
Julius rose to his feet, pulling forth a small bottle as he did so. With a mighty throw he tossed the bottle directly at the vampire but it seemed to know what he was trying to do. Instead of swiping at the incoming projectile, it opted to dive sideways. Ric grazed its leg with a swipe of his sword but it paid little mind to the blow. The bottle of holy water broke harmlessly on the floor.
The vampire grinned, its smile twisted and elongated beyond human limitation.
“Eww, gross.” Rictavio shuddered at the sight before him.
The vampire’s featured turned uglier, its face breaking into a furious snarl as it leapt at him once more. Rictavio rose the cane to catch the vampire but that had been a mistake. Rather come at him hands outstretched, it simply crashed into his body. The momentum from the creature’s supernatural speed was too much for him and Ric buckled, falling backwards onto the ground. He managed get the cane between him and the mouth full of fangs waiting yet Ric was working at an awkward angle and couldn’t push the creature off.
The whip cracked, striking the vampire on the cheek. The steam wafted off the creature while it reeled backwards in pain. Rictavio tried to get to his feet but the brace jammed, locking into place from malfunction.
The creature glanced between the trapped Ric and the approaching Julius. Evidently it was no longer liking its odds and turn tail and ran. It flung itself over the railing like a wild animal and splatted below with an unseen thud.
They had been fighting for a few minutes so hopefully everyone had cleared out and it was a simple matter to chase to the beast down.
“V-v-v-va-v-v.” a voice stammered from below.
“Yes a vampire.” The familiar detective’s voice replied, calm and controlled.
Shit.
The old man hadn’t heard the people because instead of giving chase at once, Julius turned to face his son, unable to contain his worry but Rictavio refused to be a liability.
“Da! Over the railing!” his voice dropped to a whisper “There’s people downstairs still. We’re hunters. We can’t let it hurt them.”
That knocked some professionalism back into his father.
With a determined nod, Julius turned away from Rictavio knowing he should be along shortly. He took a deep clearing breath, pulled forth another bottle of holy armament and confirmed with a booming voice “Aye son, up and over!”
Julius broke into a sprint and leapt over the railing with effortless grace and poise.
Once his father was out of sight, Rictavio thumped the brace with as much force as he could muster. The mechanism creaked and snapped back into place, straightening out his increasingly stiff and aching leg. He wished he could switch it back so he could run instead of hobble but he couldn’t risk it jamming and taking him out of the fight. So with gritted teeth he slipped his blade back into the cane and limped forward with haste.
He reached the railing in time to see his father and the vampire circling each other, each trying to maneuver into an advantageous position.
The Bluecoat hid behind the smaller frame of the detective. Her face was grim but calm, dagger in hand. Most people would shriek and beg at the sight of a vampire but she didn’t. If this meant the end she was prepped to face it kicking and screaming.
Rictavio could respect that but he rather prevent if it was all the same.
Rictavio took a deep calming breath as he waited for the next round of the brawl to begin.
