End of July

i think i’ll be starting my period sometime in the next 24 hours. my friend who i am synced with just started hers this morning. tomorrow, i am using a sick day to go to to dentist. my dentist is in san gabriel- a 20 minute drive east of my home. in the past, i would only take a half day, but then i thought, why am i stressing and rushing myself to go to work when i have all these sick hours. even more so when there’s not much pending at work. so, i plan on going to the dentist in the morning, having lunch in the area, then coming home and painting my living room and kitchen. my dad asked one of his home depot contacts to come work for us lol. i’ll be taping and painting along with him tomorrow so the job gets done faster. just came back from home depot earlier and bought two gallons of shiny luster paint- the same shade and sheen as my room. i also bought a darker grey to paint the borders for contrast. hopefully it looks good. a few weeks ago, our gallon full of coins got topped off. my mom would sit and individually package the coins into the sleeves banks provide whenever we wanted to exchange the coins for cash- this would take her nearly half a day. not sure why we never used coinstar before, but we finally did it. i learned that its an 11% fee if you exchange the coins for cash, but there is no fee when you exchange for a gift card. so, with one gallon full of coins, we got about $350 total- i put about half on a home depot gift card, and half on an amazon gift card. it was funny/so coincidental today that our total came out to be exactly 2 dollars less of our home depot gift card (my dad also had things to buy and we weren’t computing the costs).

events this past weekend: friend’s going away party. she received a scholarship from fullbright- which is a prestigious academic award to represent the US in international affairs. i didn’t realize how honorable it was til today and previously saw it as another “teach english abroad” opportunity. we ate at roe seafood in long beach. i thought the food was pretty bomb- i’d give it a 7/10. however, the more i ate of my scallop porcini pasta- the more water i had to drink. taste wise it was definitely there, but the cheese/carb combo was so damn heavy. i liked the group and it felt easy/natural to socialize (also because i was sitting in between my good friends b and s). in my last blog, i was venting about b, but i realize in the grand scheme of things- the little things i get annoyed by don’t matter. she continued to do the things i got ticked off by over text, but instead of getting irritated, i tried to teach myself to be loving and forgiving and think- she’s not me, i’m not her, don’t think that what i think is the “right” way of doing things is actually right. we had a nice time together that night. good vibes throughout.

watched lion king with my mom, grandma, bro and wife. i went into the movie having low expectations due to what everyone else was saying, but i enjoyed it. the fact that we got to live through seeing the cartoon version in 1994 to seeing it full in CGI in 2019 is incredible. i love the storyline of lion king. the scene where mufasa dies always gets me. i had to hold back tears during the emotional parts of the movie lol.

matt’s free time is decreasing and decreasing. he now has to work 6 days a week. he’s at work before i wake up, and still at work after i’m off work. on a GOOD day, he’ll only be at the hospital for about 13 hours, on a bad day, maybe 16 :(. he also has to study outside of work as they have monthly exams. saturday was his one day off during the week and it was kinda sad lol. he has one day to catch up on sleep and he’s too tired to do anything else. he tells me that he doesn’t have time to drink water at work, let alone use the restroom. his lunch consists of downing a soylent. his hospital is severely understaffed and he is doing nurses’ duties (drawing blood, patient care taking). he normally calls me right after he gets off work. i get to talk to him for about an hour or so, while he’s prepping dinner and eating. he then goes shower and gets ready to sleep and i get to see him again for a few minutes before he sleeps. i feel lucky that i’m the one he wants to talk to and see every day. i hope i brighten up his day, as he keeps saying he’s “dying” lol. when he didn’t match into a residency program, he was depressed. now that he’s in residency, it’s also depressing (but at least there is an end in sight). apparently the second and third year residents are super jaded and negative. i wouldn’t be surprised if he became like that in a year lol. on saturday, he called me right before i was going to shower. so i told him that i’ll call him back afterwards. as i got out of the shower, i saw a message from him saying - take your time, i’m gonna go shower too. so i took my time and started getting ready for the going away dinner. he called me 10-15 later and was like “you didn’t call me back!” there was something so satisfying about him being needy and clingy LOL. he’s naturally an independent cerebral person so i love it when he is needy.

saturday night at like 1am, i got a random text from L asking me about relationship stuff. coincidentally, i couldn’t sleep cus your girl would have been dead asleep by 11 any other day. i’m happy that she felt comfortable enough to reach out to me and share her feelings. i learned that we both are perfectionistic, have unrealistically high expectations, and are quite sensitive. she cares a lot about how others/her friends perceive her relationship. she shared with me an instance where her bf came off a bit rude to her in front of her friends and she felt “very disappointed” in him. if i place myself in her shoes, i can understand why she felt hurt. and if its an reoccurring thing, then i’m sure the pain is stronger. however, being “very disappointed” in your partner for being human is stressful for both you and them because you set unrealistic standards for the relationship. she wasn’t able to let it go and gave the incident more attention than it needed. from hearing her story, i basically saw my problems in someone else. it makes me realize how silly and crazy i am sometimes in making mountains out of molehills. i used to think that it was good to have high standards for your partner, and i often felt disappointed by my last partner. i think it reflected more on myself than him- my needs weren’t being met, i wasn’t happy in the relationship, i stayed with an incompatible partner, etc. having “high” standards is only valuable if the standards are attainable and something that can be worked towards.

i feel very happy with my current partner. being away from him for almost two months now has allowed me time to reflect on us and myself. i’m way more forgiving with the distance, and considerate about his new schedule and circumstance. in my last relationship, i started seeing the flaws around 8/9 month mark. and if i was smart and experienced enough, i would have realized those were dealbreakers (because in the end, i broke up with him for the same reasons). coming up on 9 months with matt, i feel secure and that our issues are small issues. we’re able to get along and have similar values and ideals.

his words can sometimes come off harsh but i’ve gotten used to it and actually really appreciate him being honest and constructive with me. a week or so before he left, i was hanging out in his room. i forgot what we were talking about before but he said, “you would be much much prettier if you worked out. not that you don’t look good now, but you would look better if you worked out.” i was a little bothered by that at first, but realized he is 100% correct. i never paid attention to my body much before- but skinny fat is not a good look or feel. my bikini pics in hawaii were meh lol i was flabby, weak and out of shape. i started working out recently with dumbbells and find it so fun- more efficient work out than without any equipment. working out also helps my face maintain its shape. i realized in the past months my face started looking more bloated and fat. i’ve even received comments from two of my older friends - “you got fatter. but just in your face.” i was never mindful of how my diet and exercise routine affected how i looked. which is really dumb as a human lol. i kinda wish i was more athletic when i was younger because i’m almost just starting from scratch now. however, i am grateful that i was at least somewhat active (hiking here and there, walking, leisurely workouts) in the last few years. so, he helped me gain weight to be at a normal range (this is the heaviest i’ve been my whole life). now it’s my job to tone myself. i’ve been saying this for some time, but i’m getting more cognizant about fitness which will help the consistency.

throughout our time together, he’s only lost his patience/raised his voice a little twice during arguments. the last time he did actually helped so much in putting me in my place. he is very smart and makes pretty good arguments sometimes haha. the last time, it made me realize that it’s better to nourish my relationship rather than bring drama into it. since then, i’ve thought twice about bringing up small issues that i can learn to let go. i love that he pushes and inspires me to be better and to be hardworking. and i’m glad i’m pretty receptive to his ideas.

i read old conversations with my past partner today. it was super cringy. i come off as cold, inquisitive, and serious and he comes off as immature, emotional and uninterested in my thoughts. even reading through our messages now i felt the frustration i felt when i was talking to him then. i felt i was always trying to change him into the person i wanted him to become. i saw the potential but i didnt see the person he was. to me, he was gross, trashy and had many insecurities. the more separated i am from it, the more i am disgusted with myself for choosing that lol. however, i am grateful for what he taught me, which was what attracted me to him in the first place- how to be intimate emotionally and physically, how to talk about feelings, how to communicate, how to talk about more difficult subjects, how to bring up issues, how to understand what i’m feeling, etc.

ok so this book is rly fun, basically it’s like everyone is super fucked up from this war but marco in particular is so super duper fucked rn he’s reached another plane of fucked he’s on a higher tier of emotional distress and it’s messing with his ability to morph, he’s so spectacularly damaged that he’s experiencing it in new and unprecedented ways he’s fucking evolving he’s ascending

"Cassie?" "Hi. Can I come in?" She didn't wait for me to answer but just sort of pushed her way past me. I followed her back to the living room. She turned off the TV and looked expectantly at me. - "You have something to tell me?" "No." "So why are you here?" "I'm here to listen to you." I laughed. "What, are you a shrink now?" She shrugged. "You said it yourself: We can't exactly go to see counselors, can we?" "Look, I'm fine." "No, you're not," she said. "Jake bought it, Rachel bought it, but I didn't. Something went wrong. I heard it in your thought-speak. You blew another morph." I sat down. I was sure I'd covered. I was sure. But of course this was Cassie. Cassie who knows what people are feeling about five minutes before they do. "Did you tell Jake?" "No. And I won't." "Why not? What happened to it being everyone's concern?" "Because I want you to know you can trust me. You know, enough to talk to."

god like??? their relationship is just So Good i love that cassie is the one to reach out to marco so consistently and genuinely, the only one to offer that kind of support, because he shoves all his pain away and hides it from everyone else but she sees his truth, insightful cassie, and then actually sets out to do something about it

because let’s not forget jake, who knows every member of his team inside out and Absolutely knows when marco is having problems, but isn’t the same person as cassie. cassie, who worries for her friends. cassie, who wants to help in any way she can. jake sees an issue like this and analyzes its contribution or detriment in relation to a mission, decides whether it’s worth looking into, and acts accordingly. he simply does whatever is necessary to reach the goal. he doesn’t have the time or energy to go chasing after every member of his team every time they break down, because they’re all broken and they all deal with it differently, and that’s really what it comes down to for him: they deal with it. get it done, and deal with it. no time for anything else, just let everyone fix themselves as they do, and move on to the next thing.

which is such an interesting parallel to cassie’s way of dealing with these things. cassie the empathetic healer, who speaks her mind and confronts the issues everyone else glosses over. it’s such a breath of fresh air to see her enter into the situation with pure intention, to fix, to help. these books give such a feeling of loneliness sometimes, spinning tales of personal conflict and avoidance and silent suffering, especially in the case of marco, who deliberately masks his pain with laughter, pain’s polar opposite. cassie is a force of companionship, of understanding in a place where it’s desperately needed, and i think it’s really refreshing, given everything else that happens constantly around her. it’s just really nice, is all i’m saying

Visser Three's troops and ships closing in. The cliff giving way. Falling. And later, Rachel had come to me and said that her body could not be found. That maybe she was still alive. he didnt even realize until now, he didn’t even put this together until now he was so focused on every other aspect of the situation that he didn’t even think about anything other than the fact that it was entirely his fault that his mother was possibly dead, he just had too many other things clouding his mind to realize that oh shit if she’s still alive we’re all kind of fucked

he’s usually so conscious of things like that at all times but this particular event fucked him up so good it blocked his perceptiveness, he probably didn’t want to think about it he probably pushed it out of his mind as much as possible so whenever it did manage to surface the only thing he felt was guilt and pain, as in the emotional response rather than the tactical thinking

he doesn’t realize until right now, when cassie confronts him and forces him to think about it, what the facts strung together actually mean for them, five books later this is happening i’m gone knock me tf out

"Nora and I have been talking about getting married, Marco. But we won't do it without your okay." "Yeah? And what if it's not okay?" I said. I could hardly hear my own voice. He sighed. like is it just me or is this super fucked up for jake to do oh my god?? humor is marco’s defense mechanism he uses to ignore his terrible realities and bottle everything up and hide it all away and it’s super unhealthy and cassie recognizes that, so she tries to help him by showing empathy and encouraging him to open up

jake also knows this about marco and and instead uses it to put him back on track on a mission like instead of saying “you can’t bottle up your emotions like this it’s not healthy and it’s obviously causing major problems” he’s like “you better bottle that shit up right this fucking instant or so help me god”

and the thing is it fucking works, marco snaps right out of it like “oh yeah bottling up my emotions why didn’t i think of that lol” and the whole thing just kind of strikes me as Super Fucked Up???? wow

i absolutely love it tho like dont get me wrong im not trying to demonize jake or w/e- it’s just another example of that brutal realism you get with this series because it feels like there should have been some kind of moral lesson about friendship and emotional support at the end of this, like it should have been cassie who managed to get through to marco by being there for him in such a critical moment, but it’s not. the thing that puts him back on track is literally the opposite of that, it’s jake basically telling him that his emotions are a waste of everyone’s time and that he needs to shove them aside just like he always does because it’s worked in the past and it needs to work Right The Fuck Now- it’s the invalidation of marco’s emotions that finally manages to pull him back to where he can essentially “function” properly again, as far as morphing goes

god and this is the shit that always gets me, why i love these books so much, like not to get all Edgy or anything but it’s that brutal reality of a fucked up situation, where there is no moral at the end, the serious issues aren’t getting resolved, the characters are fighting amongst themselves and damaging each other in the process it’s just?? so???? it’s so fucking Good like God i just

have a few issues I could really use some help with. Hi: My 1996 toyota corolla was hit by another car in the rear on the passenger side. My car was in excellent condition, everything worked, nothing broken, no rust (paint in excellent condition as it is always in my garage at home or in a covered parking lot at my workplace), low mileage (130K), never had a problem and I am the original, sole owner and driver of the car. I was planning to keep driving it for years to come. Now the insurance company wants to total my car and what they are offering for my car /their initial proposed settlement of $3500is not nearly enough to buy another car in the same excellent, safe and reliable condition, that is not riddled with hidden problems. This presents a big problem for me as, if I cannot have my car fixed and restored to the same condition as before the crash, I would have to come up with at least $12K to $15K to buy another new safe, reliable economy car. This is an expense that was not in my plans. Also, the insurance company is pushing me to make a hasty decision and is threatening me with not paying for the car rental I needed to get (since my car cannot be driven as the tail light is broken and and rain would get in the car). Is there any way that the insurance company can be prevented from totaling my car and instead pay for properly fixing the car with good OEM parts instead of used (LKQ) parts. I got several estimates, two for around $5K and one for around $7K (this one is from an excellent body shop that has done excellent work on my other previous cars before). Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury 25/50. $100 deductible on comprehensive for bike(again i ran multiple quotes, and changing the deductible amount on comprehensive only saves a few bucks). $500 deductible for collision(this deductible amount changes your rate incredibly). No other coverage. Got quoted $285...seems kinda cheap to me considering im so young? Not complaining that i save money....just wondering if this sounds normal? After a couple weeks, they decided to go clubbing again expect she asked me to go with her, so she wouldn’t be the only girl among all his guy friends. I really didn’t expect much, I was just going to keep her company and maybe just have some drinks. I wasn’t expecting to meet no guys especially because I had a 3 year off & on relationship with my ex. When we arrived at the club her new bf ”Tony” introduced me to his friend “Erick”. I really didn’t think nothing of it, he just seemed like a cool person that was casually hanging out at our table.After an hour, I was OVER IT. My Bff was all up on her boy and I was there basically by myself, playing on my phone so I wouldn’t look like such a loser. “Erick” could probably tell that I was bored out of my mind, The beginning was good, we went on plenty of cute dates and I was really starting to like “Erick”, he wasn’t exactly the type of guy I went for but we had so much in common and we began to get closer and closer. It was the first time in a while where I was genuinely happy. My mother was really happy that I broke the cycle of getting back with my ex but It started to go down hill once he began asking to see pictures of him but I always found a waybecause he walked over and handed me a drink. He was so down to earth a we basically talked until the club closed. After buying me flowers, we exchanged and we both agreed to see eachother again.My parents have never had an issue with me dating anyone, unless it was someone they approved of, and this is where it started getting tricky.. My family was this image of who they want me to be with: Tall, Fair Skin and Attractive. And if they won’t fall under those categories, they’ll basically rip this person apart. So that’s the type I want for, because subconsciously I felt like those were the only guys I felt I was “allowed” to date. My mom was happy that I moved on from my ex but it started getting tricky when she asked for a pic. She knew was up because every time I would start dating someone the first thing I would do (looking for approval?) After her confronting me about it, I told her the truth and showed her pictures of him. I got the reaction I expected, she shut him right down. She couldn’t imagine why a “beautiful” like me would ever go for a guy like that. It broke my heart.. But i didnt expect nothing more from her, but I tried to convince her that the pictures didn’t do him much justice, so she said she wanted to meet him in person. One of my coworkers daughters was having a birthday party so I thought it would be the perfect opportunity for them to meet. As the days got closer and closer, I got so nervous. I really wanted to go well so that I could continue to see this awesome guy. The day came and well that’s when the glass shattered..My mom saved her feelings until we got home. My mom was so upset, and I had never seen her act as nasty as she did then. I tried to explain to her that regardless of what she thought I was going to see this guy but she wasn’t having it. She basically told me that she wasn’t going to have my back (she’s the liberal parent) and she wasn’t going to allow it. To make matters worse, she described him as a total monster to my father. I was in a hole and I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t want to stop seeing this guy. He was different yes, but more than just a physical way. He was kind, and respectful.. And shared the same morals and goals as me. My mom didn’t talk to me for about a month, she was so mean to me, she said things like I was cursed, or that I must be so desperate but I didn’t dare to tell “Erick” because I didn’t want to hurt him.I cried, and I continued to fight for this, and I just told “Erick” that my parents were becoming more strict because I was dating some new but that wasn't the case.. He just went along with it and stuck by my side.I came to a realization, I wanted to be happy.. Even if they didn’t approve. I was really falling for this guy. I was tired of pleasing other people first and bring myself second. I made sure to make that very clear to my parents.. Eventually they just gave up, they realized they couldn’t do anything about it so they just let me be, but they continued to give me obstacles like they gave me weird curfews? (I’m 21 btw). I took it as a win! They might not be 100% but at least I knew they wouldn’t be on my back about it constantly. Between our crazy work/school schedules, me and “Erick” were determined to make it work. We would see each other 1-2 a week for a couple hours and Sundays we would spend the whole day together. It wasn’t what we wanted but we were willing to deal with it because we were both head over heels for each other.Like any relationship we’ve had our problems, Trust was always a big issues from both parts. I’m not going to lie, when we first started talking I didn’t really take it seriously and I would go out with other people and do whatever I wanted but then caught me lying about texting someone (which was before we officially started dating) He wanted to end things, and I couldn’t bare to loose him. I had never begged someone to stay like I did to him. I had fought so hard and I didn’t want to loose him over a stupid mistake. When he forgave me, I promised myself that I wasn’t going to do anything that would put this relationship on the line again even if that meant having no male friends (like he asked)“Erick” has many friends that he knows the clubbing scene. He has a very cool humble personality that everyone gravitates towards.. Especially girls. But since it made him uncomfortable for me to have male friends, I told him I felt the exact same way about him having female friends and he respected that. There was this one time when he was talking me home before going to work, that he received a call from an unknown number. It was a girl, and he basically told me “it was a friend” but when she asked him what he was doing he said “on my way to work” instead of saying “with my girlfriend” and that really bothered me.After having a huge arguement, I got over it though because he’s always showed he that he loved me regardless of what's going on with actions and words. He would always put me first and whenever he would go out he would always make sure I was with him. There was never a doubt that he didn’t love me. I was the first girl I brought to his family, I became very close with them and I was at their house every sunday.Over time we constantly, became super controlling over each other.. I’m guessing because we both didn’t want to be hurt since we loved each other so much. Although we have been together for less than a year, no one has showed me the type of love he has showed me. I was willing to cut ties with my parents, who have gave me everything, in order to be with the man I love. My parents would hate when I would tell him what I was doing, or send him pictures of what I was doing they would say “oh you guys act like you're married and that’s not okay..” but I didn’t care, I loved the fact that we would keep each other on check.. It was mutual. It felt like the other person cared.One Sunday morning when he picked me up from my house to have breakfast before starting our day, I just decided to reach over and grab his phone he didn't notice because we have the same phone case but he would probably ask me what I was doing but we usually check each other social media because of the past problems but I didn't expect to find anything but the first thing that popped up was his messages.. he was having a conversation with one of his close friends where he stated “I'm going to make an excuse to Leslie so I can go out.” after his friend had invited him to go clubbing.which didn't seem like him because we were always on the phone but it made sense because at night before he said he was going to sleep early so that he wouldn't feel so tired picking me up on Sunday. I threw his phone and I started crying and I couldn't believe what I saw but I felt ridiculous and he immediately pulled over. He explained to me that it wasn't what it looked like, that he just dropped off a friend but I am clearly not born yesterday. Was he living the secret life all along? I didn’t understand what was going on it was a slap in the face. I got out of his car but he locked me in and was crying and asking me to not leave and to forgive him but I didn't want to hear because I felt so hurt. I told him I hand me over the phone again because I wanted to continue reading the messages and he what was fighting it and finally I came to message of him and a girl talking and she had asked him why he blocked her on social media and then they just had a conversation and then somewhat made plans to hang out.I have never felt so broken how can my perfect relationship crash. I fought so hard for this.. I got out of the car and I tried to walk home but he begged me to let him take me home. It broke my heart to see him the way he was.. I had never seen him cry in so much pain but then I realize he's only crying because he got caught.when I got home my mother was mortified to see the bruises on my arms and the tears in my eyes she asked me if I was in a car accident and I gave her a summary of what happened she thought he hit me but Just i tried to explain to her that he didn’t and she even said to call the cops. All he was doing was trying to keep me from jumping out of the car.my mother then took me over to his house to drop off all his stuff and his mother was waiting outside for me and she asked me if he caused those bruises on me.. I told her he didn't hit me. They were there because he didn't want me to get out of his car but I didn't make it OK for him to put his hands on me and not let me leave.Erick is a good guy and I know he would never hurt me. He would never put hands on anyone that's just the type of person he is. I know he did grab me but it was because he was concerned about me leaving because he didn't want me to leave. when I got home I told my dad everything and he was upset but he was more happy than anything because that's clearly not what he wanted me to be with. I blocked him off of everything I didn't want to know anything the whole afternoon I just cried and cried like it that was a mourning a death.that Monday night I couldn't take it and I called him when I heard his voice I broke into tears and I just wanted an explanation and I wanted to know why? And what else he hid for me. he told me that that wasn't the first time he lied to me in order to go out with his friends and you had danced with a girl twice (salsa). he swore to me he never cheated though in a weird way I believe him. he said that his friends were constantly bagging on him about not going out anymore and being too into his girlfriend that he just wanted to stop them. he begged me to take him back he told me over and over again that I knew that he love me and that he made a mistake. I told him that I would never forgive him because there's many girls that have his number and I would never be comfortable and he has to many girls on a social media, although he didn't talk to them I just didn't want to be involved anymore.other than that my parents would never allow it.. if things are bad bad before things are Worse than ever. They threatened to kick me out if they ever found out I started talking to him again.All he did on the phone was cry and he told me that things would be different in that he would delete everything on social media, change his number. He told me he was going to TRY, until his heart told him to stop trying. That he was going to make me fall in love with him again. And that he should have never listened to his friends because hes always respected them when they were in relationships. He said all he needed was me, family and his close friends because i never did anything wrong and because I was the “one” and if my parents cant allow it, he would want me to move in with him.Erick is not one to just say things and not mean it. Other than this he never really let me down he's always been there for me and I can truly say that I was in love with him but these actions made me really think if I didn't catch him, would this continue to go on? People don’t change.Is it worth going against my parents? Who have given me everything for a guy that I love with all my heart.
