LEGO® Contest

Creative Building Contest

 This contest not only promotes the library and reading, it also allows students to demonstrate and express their creativity and vision. 

Welcome LEGO Maniacs to submit their best original creations for competition, or to just join in the fun by voting for their favorites. Students are challenged to recreate their favorite scene from a book or movie using LEGO® Bricks, DUPLO, Mega Bloks or other LEGO compatible plastic bricks for a chance to win a cool prize.

 All on campus will vote for their favorite design. Campus votes will determine 1st Place and Runner Up designs. Through observation of campus interaction with the creations, the Librarian will designate a Crowd Favorite winner.

Planning:

Collaborate with teachers and administrators to set dates to allow one month running time for submissions. 

 Promotion:

Posters and flyers around the school; campus and library website and social media promotion; school announcements; an introduction to the contest presented by the library media specialist. (See example flyer below)

 Preparations:

Have entry forms readily available.

 Have a place to store creations before contest deadline.

 Have a delegated space for display of the submissions.

 Prepare a Google Form and QR code for voting. As entries are submitted, upload pictures to be used in the voting process. Make sure the Google Form collects email addresses so there can only be one vote per email address. 

 Do not display entries until all submissions are turned in and the deadline has been met.  This assures that all entries are viewed at the same time.

 Procedures:

Students are encouraged to design and create a LEGO® Bricks, DUPLO, Mega Bloks,  or other LEGO compatible plastic bricks creation recreated from their favorite book or movie scene.

 The contest is open to all students on campus.

            Contest Guidelines:

Participants must be a student on campus.

Only one entry per participant.

Entries must be submitted with a completed entry form in person in the library between the dates of the contest.

For an entry to be eligible for judging, each entry form must have a description to accompany the creation.

Entrants grant the campus and school district the right to use information provided as part of the submission, including name and contact information for the following purposes:

1) Contact information will only be used to notify the entrant in the event the entrant is selected as a winner of a prize.

2) First name may be announced to the public in connection with winning entries.

Entries must be students’ own creations, not a Lego design kit or a project found online or in a book.

Use your own LEGO, DUPLO, Mega Bloks or other LEGO compatible plastic bricks.

Creation must be on a base no bigger than 24 by 24 inches. The base can be wood, cardboard, a LEGO flat base, etc. and can be decorated to fit with the project. Completed project may be no taller than four feet tall.

 All entries will be displayed in the library partitioned off for safety. 

 The Google Form for voting will be current and up to date with pictures of all entries and the QR code will have been tested.

 Leave the display up for promotion of reading and the library, but once results of the contest are in, display ribbons on the first place and runner up creations.

 Payoff:

Promoting creativity and the library program to the learning community. 

 There will be three winners: 1st Place, Runner-up, and Crowd Favorite.

Voting will be done by the entire learning community including teachers and staff.

 The first place winner will receive a blue ribbon labeling the winning design, a Lego store gift card, and be displayed on school and library websites and social media.

 Runner up and Crowd Favorite winners will receive red ribbons labeling their winning designs, smaller denomination Lego store gift cards, and be displayed on school and library websites and social media. Crowd Favorite will be determined by Librarian’s observation of crowd interaction with the creations.

 All entries will be displayed in the library media center and possibly on school and library websites and social media as entries.
