Bea Arthur Vs. Lily Tomlin
Propaganda
Bea Arthur - (Golden Girls, Maude) - Okay okay where do I even start!! Bea Arthur is incredibly attractive. She has a SUPER deep voice (stunning), a sort of regal, statuesque way of moving and talking, and she can kill you with a single piercing look. Like seriously. Her Looks have become a thing in both shows she plays a lead character in. Did I mention: TWO characters were *written for her*!! When she did Maude in 1972, she'd appeared on All in the Family as a side character and the people there loved her so much they went "this woman needs her own TV show". SO THEY WROTE IT. And made 6 seasons of it. That's how good she is. When the pilot for The Golden Girls was written, creator Susan Harris described the part that Bea would end up playing as a "Bea Arthur type" before they'd even cast her in the role. She was Jewish, she served as a typist and truck driver in the marines during WWII, she had a whole career off and on Broadway behind her by the time she started her career in television, and she was an ally to the gay community — there's even a shelter for homeless queer youth named after her. And did I mention her voice?? Because she can sing too!
Lily Tomlin - (Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In, Saturday Night Live, Murphy Brown) - “Lily Tomlin is, I believe, a great artist. I find that her work succeeds on every level: She is a great actress; she is a brilliant comedienne; she is a coruscating commentator on our times and on her place in the world; she is frighteningly clear in her ability to see and to share what entered her mind and her heart; she is amazingly generous with her material. The final point is one that you will not understand until you begin to create your own work, and you will know the brutal difference between those who give a great deal and those who give according to fashion and whim. Trust me when I tell you this is a brutal point.” — Tennessee Williams
Master Poll List of the Hot Vintage TV Ladies Bracket
Additional propaganda below the cut
Bea Arthur:
She was just so funny and compelling onscreen. She had great timing. And she was beautiful no matter what age and she was an incredibly LGBT+ ally.
I think it's a very common experience to start watching The Golden Girls and immediately develop a crush on Dorothy Zbornak - and it's not a coincidence. Between her statuesque figure, her regal poise, her sharp wit and her wonderful, deep voice, Bea Arthur brings so much to the table that it's impossible not to be head-over-heels in love with her from the very first moment she appears on screen. Career-wise, she's a legend of the small screen; she received the third most Emmy nominations for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (an incredible 9!). Her guest appearance as Maude in All in the Family impressed both the public and the executives so much that they made a spin-off series *especially for her*. She led Maude - the sitcom - for six incredible seasons to critical and public acclaim, and this would already be enough to nominate her among the greats, but then - as the true queen she was - she went on to star into *another* legendary show, The Golden Girls, as *another* legendary character, Dorothy, and won another Emmy (as well as several nominations) for it, just because she could. As for her private life, she was known as a private, introverted person, who loved the simple things in life; all her fellow TV stars (including Angela Lansbury, who was a dear friend of hers) recall her as a kind, decent person and a wonderful professional, with impeccable work ethic and truly immaculate comedic timing. We do not support the military complex here, but we do support girlbosses winning, so let me just mention that she was one of the first women (ever!) to join the US marines; she was also a licensed medical technician. All in all - a legendary lady who definitely deserves your vote!
how many people can dress up as the Statue of Liberty and look this good?
have you ever seen a woman so beautiful you started crying
MOTHER
soft butch queen. Who else could rock a papillon like that?!?

i thought about this last night but um
SPOILERS for True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys: National Anthem
i love the kind of symbolism we see with mike milligram of all the older more "childish" items he holds onto, hear me out.
So we see Mike holding this cheesy little vampire ring during the gathering scene where we first meet the rest of the killjoys, particularly when we learn that he's in a relationship with Code Blue and want's to take it a step further with marriage. They're all teenagers in this scene, assumedly maybe at least 16 at most 19 (because thats when you arent a teen anymore lol- after 20 you arent a teen duh). He's hiding it behind his back and seems to be just about to pop the question.
then, Blue dies in a standoff, just because he didn't want to move on and comply to the brainwashing tv. Blue literally jumps in front of him and takes the bullet (laser? whatever) for him. When she dies, he lashes out.
later on in the timeskip we see that Mike is basically hooked to the TV. hes fallen asleep to it and is only waken up by a rat chewing on the chords. this isn't entirely important to my point but I still feel like mentioning it because it tells us one thing: Because of Mike's grieving, he basically had no choice but to run back and give everything up. His grief, in turn, is what led him to actually start going back to how he was before, going against an authoritarian government run by a monopoly.
This leads Mike to realize that everything around him isn't what it seems, not only is he withdrawing from The TV, but he's also withdrawing from the effects of the pills he (and the rest of society) is on. He's hallucinating, but not fully. We know as readers that things aren't right in his life -- in anyone's life -- because of this.
once we reach the scene where he learns about his Ramones records being sanitized and the technician here to fix his tv is actually some kind of plant (overall, everyone trying to uphold the brainwashing system is doing so maliciously). Mike kills this plant, and we get to the next sighting of the vampire ring that we saw in that first scene I mention before. He finds it, remembers Blue (also to note theres a paper that says "SO REAL IT HURTS" on it right next to the ring, like thats so obvious that I looked over it), and holds onto it.
lets skip to the climax, where we're revealed to see "Blue" (this time either her reanimated corpse or some kind of clone, it isn't really specified) again, Mike shuts down. almost instantly. He's so close to giving in and going back to being brainwashed, but he stops for a moment. this is the kind of breaking point where we see his arc hit its breaking point and reach its conclusion.
Mike's individual character arc is about letting go. Letting go of grief. Letting go of the past. Progressing forward, no matter how much it hurts.
When he gets his gun back and shoots the clone of Blue HIMSELF, that is him signifying that he has to move on. for the sake of not only himself but for his son, his friends, everyone.
And in this last moment.
He puts her body in the car. and prepares to light it on fire.
and that is the last time we see the ring. He slips it onto her finger right before the car is set ablaze.
UGH ITS BEAUTIFUL. the ending is BEAUTIFUL.
a perfect illustration of how Mike had to get past his grief for the betterment of himself.
and even in the end, he isn't completely forgetting her. He isn't just tossing her aside, he's just saying "It's time I moved on. I won't let my anger and grief drag me down, but I will remember you."
and it's all made clear with that little ring. THE FUCKING RING DUDE.
It's a little plastic ring, usually associated with youth because it's usually found in gift bags or cereal boxes. something synthetic and cheap. Easy to break, usually thrown away right away. Mike is seen not only getting better from his grief but also maturing. Which is great for him. It's something in his past that he had to move on from, but could still hold the memory of.
also like a little side note but vampirism is sometimes depicted as being a kind of toxic, dependent force. A leech. the ring having a vampire on it is like... really good symbolism for that, MAYBE IM GOING TOO FAR IDK IDK-

Thank youuuuuu 🥰
It means so much to me considering the hardships I had to went through to colour those dark as sh*t scenes ^^ (especially the thigh scene)
I swear those witches tested me but my love for lesbians won 🤣
You're welcome, dear 4alarmfirecracker. ❤️
"It means so much to me considering the hardships I had to went through to colour those dark as sh*t scenes"
Tell me about it!
I opened Photoshop, played with levels/curves etc. for a little while, got frustrated, gave up and simply waited for people who are good at Photoshop (or another software altogether) to work their magic.
Listen, all the 1.04 colorings I've seen so far are great, but when I stumbled upon yours, I was mindblown. Like the epitome of 🤯.
More evidence that gif makers are the mainstay of this hellsite.
Seriously though. When will artists and technicians understand that if we can suspend our disbelief about witches and vampires existing then we can suspend it for low light scenes as well?
In this particular case, I had to set the brightness slider to 100% and hurt my eyes just to be able to see that hug. Sheesh.
I'd say that was an artistic choice if I didn't know this is a general problem in our streaming era. Which is weird, because the budgets for TV series have skyrocketed and all of them have a more cinematic look nowadays.
This is why I feel that some artists are overconfident in their skills (they think they know their tools, i.e., cameras, LED lights, lenses, but they don't) and/or don't have much experience with night scenes. And, of course, they work under pressure and have rushed schedules thus this mess.
Counterexample? "Interview With The Vampire."
An amazing show for many reasons, but one of them is definitely this: even though most of its scenes take place at night--because it's a show about vampires, duh--there's light everywhere. The people behind it know how to separate the background from the foreground (there's a scene with Armand and Louis that takes my breath away because of this), their balance, exposure, color-grade scales etc. Everything looks great.
"I swear those witches tested me but my love for lesbians won 🤣"
And we are lucky it did! Kudos once again.

Happy birthday Scottish TV host and entertainer Craig Ferguson born in Glasgow, on May 17th, 1962.
Ferguson was born in Stobhill Hospital and brought up not far from where I now live in nearby Cumbernauld. He admits to growing up "chubby and bullied" At age sixteen hen left Cumbernauld High School and began an apprenticeship to be an electronics technician at a local factory of American company Burroughs Corporation.
In the early 1980s, Ferguson drummed in punk bands for a few years before a bartending job led him to Michael Boyd, the artistic director of the Tron Theatre. Boyd talked Ferguson into giving acting a shot, which Ferguson soon did, finding the comedy prong of the art too compelling to ignore.
Ferguson soon created an outrageous—and successful—stage character called Bing Hitler. On top of the local success he was experiencing, Ferguson used the experience as a backdrop from which to move into mainstream acting roles.
Craig Ferguson’s first TV appearance came on an episode of the sci-fi sitcom Red Dwarf in 1988, and it was enough to get Ferguson to head overseas to the United States for his first role on American TV. The part was playing a teacher in the pilot episode of High (1989), which starred Gwyneth Paltrow and Zach Braff. The pilot wasn’t picked up, though, and Ferguson headed back to Scotland.
Once back in the UK, Ferguson found that roles came sporadically before he landed his own BBC show The Ferguson Theory in 1994 While the sketch comedy show put the funnyman front and centre, it only lasted five episodes.
When Theory was no more, Ferguson packed his bags once again for America. But this time he’d find a lot more success waiting for him than he did years before. When Ferguson joined The Drew Carey Show as Nigel Wick in 1996, his run lasted several seasons and led to the actor becoming a known quantity in the world of U.S. television.
Ferguson’s busy life on TV and the big screen got a lot busier in January 2005, when he took over the late-night comedy series The Late Late Show. Once it found its footing, Ferguson’s show was another hit, earning its first Emmy nomination a year into its run. Mixed in with his work on the show were several high-profile big-screen roles, often voice-over work, in movies like How to Train Your Dragon, Winnie the Pooh and Brave.
Ferguson, who became an American citizen in 2008, is also an author, publishing Between the Bridge and the River and American on Purpose.
On 28 April 2014, Ferguson announced he would be leaving The Late Late Show at the end of 2014, with the final episode airing on 19th December that year.
Ferguson is a recovering alcoholic, sober since 18th February 1992, another Scot who has dealt with his depression, he admits to having considered suicide before giving up the bottle.
In 2017 he released a six-episode web show with his wife, Megan Wallace Cunningham, titled Couple Thinkers. For two seasons from 2021, Ferguson hosted the American game show The Hustler, which airs on ABC.
In 2022, an adaptation of Ferguson's film Saving Grace (2000) was announced as a stage musical in which Ferguson will portray a "villainous banker". It was adapted by April De Angelis from Ferguson's and Mark Crowdy's screenplay, with music by fellow Scot KT Tunstall. In October 2022, the musical was confirmed to run for a limited twelve performances at Riverside Studios from 22 November until 4 December 2022 as an "intimate first run.
The rumor mill has been buzzing that Craig is thinking about returning to the talk show ranks In a recent interview he said;
“I have meetings next week in Los Angeles for a show,” Ferguson said, calling from New England while on vacation with his family. “I’m considering doing a show but I just don’t want to do one every day. I like doing a talk show, but not enough to do it every single day.”

MEET THE GHOST ADVENTURES CREW
Meet the Ghost Adventures crew/investigators as they interview eyewitnesses and historians at each haunted location, arming themselves with the stories of the ghosts they will later provoke and confront during their dusk-to-dawn lockdowns.
ZAK BAGANS
Zak Bagans is the host, lead investigator and an executive producer on Ghost Adventures. With his paranormal investigation team, Zak travels to domestic and international locations rumored to be haunted in search of evidence proving the existence of the supernatural.
After graduating from film school in Michigan, Zak moved to Nevada to pursue a career in documentary filmmaking. There, he met fellow Ghost Adventures investigator Aaron Goodwin. Their first paranormal investigations as a team took place all over Nevada, and the footage led to an award-winning, nationally-televised documentary, Ghost Adventures. Their concept was picked up by Travel Channel and commissioned as a series. Zak is also host and executive producer of Ghost Adventures: Aftershocks, where the team revisits past locations to follow up on their initial investigation, and Deadly Possessions, which features the stories behind haunted, iconic items from Bagans’ Las Vegas museum collection. He also served as an executive producer for Travel Channel’sParanormal Paparazzi, Paranormal Challenge and Netherworld. In 2004, Bagans founded the world's largest paranormal organization, The Ghost Adventures Crew, which consists of over 6,000 members.
Bagans recently executive produced a feature film entitled “Sympathy, Said the Shark,” which has landed a distribution deal soon to be announced. Bagans also directed and produced a documentary, “The Demon House,” where he investigates one of the most well-documented case of demonic possession in America. The film is projected for a 2016 release.
Bagans joined efforts with Lords of Acid’s Praga Khan on an 11-track album titledNecroFusion (launched in October 2012 and reached #1 on iTunes) that tells the story of a departed soul who has not moved on. Woven into each song is an actual message from the dead, captured from Bagans’ own paranormal investigations. Additionally, he’s penned two books with Kelly Crigger: I am Haunted: Living Life Through the Dead(Victory Belt, 2015) and Dark World: Into the Shadows with the Lead Investigator of the Ghost Adventures Crew (Victory Belt, 2011), which debuted on the New York Times Best Seller list at #18.
Zak currently resides in Las Vegas, NV.
AARON GOODWIN
Referred to by many as a teddy bear, or Zak's bait of choice, Aaron actually hates to be left alone in attics (or just about anywhere). You can also expect to hear him say "dude!" about 20 times per episode. Always armed with a camera, Aaron travels around the world with the team to record what they experience in each haunted location. An Oregon native, Aaron moved to Las Vegas where he fell in love with film and taught himself how to edit video and operate a camera. Aaron gained experience by working as a cameraman on numerous TV shows. He's worked on projects ranging from red-carpet movie premieres to sporting events.
BILLY TOLLEY
Having a solid background in audio editing and production software, Tolley was first intrigued by the paranormal after learning about electronic voice phenomena (EVP). With several years of experience in music and audio production, his curiosity led him to investigate and capture EVP’s for himself.
Tolley’s fascination with the paranormal field grew stronger, and in 2006, he founded a paranormal group with some friends – the Las Vegas Paranormal Investigations of Mysterious Phenomena Squad (LV PIMPS). He started sharing details of his audio captures with Zak Bagans joined the Ghost adventures series as one of the paranormal investigation team’s audio/visual technicians and EVP analyst.
JAY WASLEY
Wasley started his filmmaking career in Philadelphia, Pa. as a director of photography and audio engineer. Since 2002, he has worked on dozens of feature films, documentaries, television shows, national commercials and music videos.
Wasley joined Ghost Adventures in season 4 as the paranormal investigation team’s sound mixer, and has since evolved into one of the show’s audio/visual technicians and cinematographers. Throughout the series, Wasley travels with the team to domestic and international locations rumored to be haunted in search of evidence proving the existence of the supernatural.

Teeny drabble while I work other shit out.
“Vic,”
He rubs his face against the couch cushion.
Something’s off.
“Viiiic?”
He can hear the sink running.
“Viiiiiiiiii-“
“Oh my god.”
“Hi Vic.”
Toothbrush hanging from his mouth, towel draped over his head like a veil, Victor looks comfy. And annoyed. More annoyed than comfy.
“What do you want?”
“Are you brushing in circles?”
Deimos thinks his roommate is about to spit the rest of the toothpaste foam directly onto his unprotected neck, but Victor’s always the better man, just sneering and getting back to brushing.
Deimos would’ve at least considered the shot. Might not’ve done it, but maybe.
Maybe.
Like the nice guy he is, Victor turns the tv on before he goes.
It’s a hot day, the window cracked as far open as it can be on a floor this high up, the AC busted and the landlord refuses to answer any messages.
Or, Deimos hasn’t noticed a message come back.
Better check on that.
…
…
“Vic?”
…
“Viiii-“
“I’m going to strangle you,”
Stomping into the living room, towel draped over his head like a veil, Victor looks comfy. And annoyed. More annoyed than comfy.
Deimos blinks, mouth open, then he snaps it shut.
… Deja vu?
When he doesn’t say anything, Victor crosses his arms and gives him a face that says ‘Get on with it.’
“… I’unno.”
It’s hot.
Victor goes back to the bathroom.
He has sweat pooling on his back, where it feels like it’s been building while he’s been belly-down on the sofa.
It’s hot.
He has-
…
…
“Vic?”
Victor steps out of the bathroom, towel draped over his head like a veil. Victor looks comfy. And worried. More worried than comfy.
The guy kneels down by the couch, and Deimos can’t remember why he’d called for him in the first place.
It’s hot.
He doesn’t feel so good, and it’s obvious enough that Victor’s got a hand on the back of his head, checking how hot he’s running.
“Do you wanna go to the quickmart? Hang out in the beer cave?” He’s using that voice he uses when he’s trying not to freak Deimos out. Uh-oh.
“… Am I bugging?”
“Yyyeeeah. Come on.”
The quickmart isn’t far, just around the block. If the owners are there, Deimos is probably going to receive a shotgun aimed at his face.
Or, did they kiss and make up?
Or did he steal again and wreck that?
He cant really remember, but it’s just some teenager at the counter today, staring into the depths of space while microscopic LEDs dance across her pupils. She doesn’t even look up when Victor closes Deimos into the beer cave.
It’s blessedly cool, even the quick chill of his arms feels nice at this point, nice enough that he can grab a tall boy and press it to the back of his neck, letting his eyes shut as the fog recedes to something more manageable.
… Landlord. Contact the landlord.
He checks his messages just to find out that the text he’d written up had never even sent. He must’ve started looping before he actually got the message out.
He tacks the word EMERGENCY onto it, and lets it fly.
His memory doesn’t come back right, stored directly onto his drive and nowhere in his meat, recorded and unprocessed. It’s kind of funny to watch over again, seeing Victor get increasingly more irritated- Up until he looks worried, at least.
Christ. What a wreck.
New message alert comes up pretty fast, something something heatwave, something something multiple complaints. Technician held up but en route.
He gets offered enough credits for one cold extra shower in the meantime.
Maybe he should piss in the hallway.
… Nah.
He is stealing the beer, though.

What song are you fixated on at the moment? What lyric or verse, and why?
Maria by Blondie!! i LOVE a good girl song (e.g. jolene, come on eileen) & the music is just so good plus there’s this one line ‘a million and one candlelights’ and ????? i’m simply obsessed
What is your Enneagram type?
i only just took the test and it got caught between 8w7 & 4w3 so that seems. kind of antithetical?
Do you love gargantuan Youtube video essays, and if so, which is your favorite and why?
i enjoy them but i have to take breaks as i have an extremely short attention span </3 i don’t have a favourite but my favourite creator in that respect is DEFINITELY Mina Le
What is your go-to way to fall asleep?
cutting off all noise & distraction & then just daydreaming until i start nightdreaming
If you had to change your name, what would it be, and why? (In tandem, if you have changed your name, why did you pick that one?)
i really really love names with a lot of history behind them, especially in the religious respect - i’d probably change my name to Judith (after Judith slaying Holofernes)
What is your favorite of Redacted’s audios, and why?
it’s probably the recent Vincent dinner date audio!! i love it when he and lovely just get to be flirty freaks in love without anything looming over them.
What Redacted boy holds no appeal to you, and why? Like, not the one you hate but the one who you don’t get the hype for. (I won’t judge, I promise.)
it kind of has to be ollie? i don’t have anything against the guy but he just really is not my type, he’s a little too boring. that sounds so mean
Tell me about that one book/movie/tv show you know all the words to.
the movie is probably Marie Antoinette directed by Sofia Coppola. i know it’s hopelessly romanticised but it’s just so FUN and PRETTY
Which Redacted boy are you platonically attracted to? Like- forget dating, which dude do you want to be your best friend?
Damien? i think we’d have the most in common, although we’d probably start off as academic rivals.
Do you have a go-to thing you ramble about when you’re tired, and if so, what is it? (For example, my boyfriend knows I’m ready to sleep when I start talking about space.)
Greek mythology and/or marine biology. if i mention deep-sea gigantism or Eros & Psyche i’m probably seconds away from passing out.
Tell me your go-to gas station and drink combo.
it would probably have to be pretzels & a milkshake! this hasn’t come up much yet so i’m a little unclear
Tell me about your favorite playlist at the moment.
i make playlists for each month with all the songs from the month before i still like - so obviously it has to be my june 2023 one!!
What’s your guilty pleasure media, and why?
Fall Out Boy. i’m not sure if it counts as a guilty pleasure in that i have no shame but i guess it could be seen as one!!
thank you so much this has been a really fun questionnaire to fill out!! i love talking about myself haha
I loved this entry- something about your pure vibes led me to the answer. Sometimes I really think these through with my brain algorithm, and I love doing that, but Anton himself just led me to you, and I can’t explain why.
I think it’s something about the sheer range of interests you have and the amount of energy with which you engage with them. Like, let’s be real- Anton is probably a nerd. He’s a soft-spoken, introverted-ish technician who was probably a stem major; dude is hella nerdy and probably in his own little world if someone doesn’t turn his head. It’s giving that introvert/extrovert, STEM/liberal arts couple that works really well and is super cute.
I can very easily picture you as his “Blossom” as some people like to call his listener. Anton would miss you dearly while he’s on assignment at ETS and all the little things about you like the way you sing along in the car to your favorite girl songs or the way. He would miss window shopping with you and the way you might get distracted, hopping from one display to the next as he makes mental notes to spoil you with the things that catch your eye. He misses your constantly changing playlists that act as time capsules of him months with you, (Maybe, if he’s lucky, you’re allowed to share them with him, and Anton can at least listen to them and know you and he might have the same song stuck in your head.)
Song:
I will stand by you/ Even when we fall/ I will be the rock that holds you up/ And lifts you high so you stand tall/ I won't let you go/ No one can take your place/ Oh, a couple fights and lonely nights/ Don't make it right to let it go to waste/ And I won't let you fall/ I won't let you go
I want you to know that I went through my Spotify looking for a girl song that you would like, but then this song came up, and I can’t explain why this felt right, but it does. I’m going all intuition with this match-up, because one, a duet calling out to me when I was looking for a girl song just fits. Two, standing by each other no matter what works given Anton’s sad as heck circumstances. Three, this song is the wedding vows of the duo that sings this, it’s so cute!
Runner-ups:
Huxley is a two-parted runner-up. One, you said you have a lot in common with Damien, and we know they’re made for each other. Two, his two moms definitely taught him all the girl songs; he sings along with the best of them. Eric is a runner-up because you’d bring a lot of life and variety into his life, like you would to Anton, except he wouldn’t have as much to offer in return.
note: thank you for waiting! You’ve got great taste in YouTubers by the way; I love Mina Le 💕
Read this post and send me an ask if you’d like a match-up of your own! 💌

Bea Arthur Vs. Joan Collins

Dream Show Challenge
It's time for the Dream Show Challenge once more! I gave @singledarkshade a list of 7 TV shows or films and we were given a cast of 7 actors in return.
Here's who I had to work with:
The Umbrella Academy - Aidan Gallagher Good Omens - David Tennant The Mandalorian - Giancarlo Esposito Leverage Redemption - Aleyse Shannon Everything Everywhere All at Once - Ke Huy Quan The Witcher - Freya Allan Sense8 - Daryl Hannah
I present you with:
Rift Hunter
Synopsis:
Someone or something is trying to reach Earth, not through space but across a dimensional rift. A secretive agency battles to control the rifts and deal with the incursions that threaten humans and the very fabric of the world. Connor Harris is having a particularly bad day. He is broke, his girlfriend has left him, and he’s desperate for something to go right, when he stumbles through the wrong door on his way to a job interview for a job he doesn’t really want, and into the middle of an incursion.
He is thrust into a world of monsters, aliens and strange science. Jiang Bao heads up the Reality Incursion Fundamental Tactics and Science (RIFTS) Agency which takes in Connor and gives him a new purpose. The secretive agency is tasked with keeping mankind safe but also with making good use of any opportunities that the Rifts produce to further science and technology.
The show plays on Connor's love of video games and retro gaming, getting in references about video games and gaming culture. It has a retro 80s theme tune and a purposefully retro intro sequence. It makes use of garish colours to heighten the strangeness of the rifts and the denizens from it.
Aidan Gallagher – Connor Harris
In the wrong place at the wrong time, Connor never wanted to be part of the agency. However, his quick thinking and problem solving skills make him an ideal operative. He is a gaming nerd, whose last job was at a large game design company. He has very few friends and almost no real prospects after the company he worked for went bankrupt and fired all their staff, but he grows into his role at the agency. His main skills are in computers, but he also somehow gains an ability to predict when and where a rift will occur. He can also track the entities who come to Earth through the rifts.
Aleyse Shannon – Tia Adefope
Tia is a government military operative, and is quite secretive about her past. She has trained to a high level and is extremely competent. She never expected to need to use her skills in this way but she is ready for whatever comes. She now leads a team of soldiers who act as security for the RIFT Agency and protect the scientists and technicians from anything that would harm them. When she isn’t saving the world one bullet at a time, she has a pet cat called Discord and a vintage motorbike to restore. She doesn’t have any attachments because her job never allows her time to stay in one place, but she also secretly likes it that way.
Giancarlo Esposito – Jules Jackson
Jackson oversees the work of the RIFTS Agency. He is their liaison with government and ultimately in charge of everything that happens in the agency, their strategy and direction. He takes a no nonsense approach and takes his responsibilities seriously. Jiang would not have been his first choice to head up the agency and he would rather have found Connor a basement office that he could have left him in. However, he respects skill and comes to see the good points of the team.
Ke Huy Quan – Jiang Bao
Head of the RIFTS Agency. Strings were pulled to get him this job, and Jackson would have preferred a military candidate. Jiang is an expert in the little that is known about the phenomenon of the rifts. Jiang’s parents emigrated from Vietnam when he was only a few months old, but he embraced his new country, becoming an disaster analyst in the government. His area of expertise is seismic activity, which led him to discover the rifts, but since then he has branched into several other areas of science to learn what he needs to know. He is smart, tough and a little out of his depth.
Freya Allen – Corinna Salvor
An expert in aerospace technology, formerly of NASA, she was recruited to the team as an expert technician. She helps to deal with the technological threats that the team face on a daily basis as part of their work. She loves the challenge of her work and will happily pick up a gun alongside Tia. Smart, sharp and with a wicked sense of humour she loves nothing better than to prank Dr Caffrey or wind up Jiang. She is an expert at pressing peoples buttons and specialises in cutting sarcasm.
David Tennant – Dr Alex Caffrey
Alex is a biologist, who found himself disgraced for his unusual views on the origins of life on Earth. Whilst he wasn’t exactly correct, he was closer to answers than many of his peers. Life on Earth wasn’t brought here by aliens but by the rifts. One of his key discoveries has been that humans were not originally native to Earth and he continues to gather evidence for where we came from as he interacts with the creatures that come through the rifts. He is a maverick who continues to clash with the senior team members on academic matters, but has a kind heart and will do anything for his friends. He does not enjoy fieldwork, but there is no substitute for collecting alien goo oneself.
Daryl Hannah – Persephone Turner
Persi is a linguist and expert in psychology. She is empathic and gentle, not well suited to the work she is doing, but determined not to let her fear get the better of her. There is nowhere else that would give her the opportunity to speak to beings from other worlds or to learn how they communicate. Her tenacity means she is unwilling to let things go, even if they look hopeless.
Episode 1: Connor Harris and the Day of the Tentacle
Connor loses his job at EverByte whilst in the middle of programming a game that could make them all rich. Unfortunately for Connor, things go from bad to worse when he applies for a new job and arrives at the interview to then get caught up in an evacuation. He enters the wrong room and instead of the exit, he finds a glowing rift and a waving set of tentacles being fought off by the RIFTS Agency.
Tia rescues him but not before he is covered in a strange alien slime that gives him unusual powers. He is taken back to HQ for treatment and testing. During this period he becomes away that objects from other worlds have unusual auras that he can see under the right conditions. The team take him out into the field to test this ability and he is able to pinpoint a rift before the final incursion appears. The tentacle monster returns and tries to take Connor back through the rift, but the creature is killed by Tia.
When Connor asks what’s on the other side, Tia tells him that no one has ever returned from the other side of a rift.
And finally, the 80s theme song:
