WIP Wednesday: TSOA Book 2
Tumblr media
The Song of Azris, Book II: Dice & Fics is well underway! I'm excited to share the next installment of this fic when it is finished.
TW will include death, blood, and attempted assault. Allusions to this are found in the snippet.
The acolytes' eyes were open, staring toward the moon. Azriel stared between the pair of communing maidens and pleaded with the gods. He just needed one more chance. He could make this right, he wouldn’t fail Phoibe again, he wouldn’t- On the sand beside his knees, the girl's hand fell open as if in offering. A pair of dice rolled to the sand. Three and two, together making five. Duplicity and luck all wrapped up in a new beginning. His sister had taught him to read dice, and he recalled her lessons so acutely in this moment his head throbbed.  Screams echoed through his mind as well. It took Azriel too long to realize they were his own. Soon, they were joined with other shouts. The distant yells became louder, closer. Men running from the barracks would arrive quickly, swords in hand and ready to defend. Azriel hung his head. He placed the acolyte gently on the ground, fixing her hair so the wound was covered. Beautiful, he thought as he did so. Just like my sister. Before he ran away from the bodies, Azriel grabbed the pair of dice.

OKAY WELL THIS IS VERY EXCITING BECAUSE ITS NOT EVEN A SPIN OFF; THIS IS PART OF THE MAIN FIC.
In “The Song of Azris”:
ELAIN is HELEN OF TROY
LUCIEN is MENELAUS
TAMLIN is PARIS
I’m so excited and I won’t be calm about this ever at all. The AU isn’t just TSOA, it’s a lot of major parts from the Iliad as well so you’ll see these guys around. Two of them show up in Book 1 👀
finally got around to catching up on your recent fics and I would just like to say that I'm obsessed with you and everything you write <3
- 🌌
(Also may I please propose: elain as helen of troy)
Does that make Lucien Paris??

WIP Wednesday: TSOA Book 2
Tumblr media
Aaaaaaaannnd we're back!! Just a little taste for you all as I work on the second book of "The Song of Azris." This is going to be another emotionally rough one, but well, the source material should give you an idea of just how far this fic will go. Part of this book was written many months ago, and I started by rewriting it all. I'm excited with how it's coming along now!
He fought, channeling his pain into rage, and his rage into movement. For months Azriel trained from sunup until just before sundown. Each evening, he found his way to the ashen ruins of the house that still burned in his dreams. While Apollo carried the sun to its rest each night, streaking the sky in vibrant orange and red two thoughts warred in Azriel’s mind: the fire that licked at his sister’s skin, taking her life, and the red headed boy who had made it easier for Azriel to breathe. As the colors melted to an ashen purple and charcoal night, Azriel hated himself for both.  Why should he have it easier? That boy, Eris, he’d been so young, so unaware. Burns did not make Azriel a warrier. The healing skin was calloused now, having adjusted to the brutal training Azriel endured. But maybe if he trained more, worked harder, he could become the hero that boy thought he was. The one his sister had deserved.  The charcoal grey darkened to an inky black, blue wisps of cloud covering the moon left in the sun’s wake. Stars dotted through, carrying hopes, dreams, and the true heroes of their world. Azriel sat beside the toppled brazer, the only piece of his sister’s sanctuary that remained, and watched them blink into existence. His mind began to replay the events of that night, as it often did. The screams were so vivid, Phoibe’s voice reverberating through his memories…

Eris Week '24 Day 6: AU/Retellings
On day 6 of @erisweekofficial I'm choosing to fulfill a both prompts together with the first book of "The Song of Azris".
Tumblr media
The epic begins. In Book I: The Promise, we learn of Azriel's past and the fateful day in Sparta that would once again bring these men together again in Troy.
Referring to each chapter as a book is also a nod to Homer's style, and the way he outlined both The Iliad and The Odyssey.
Be sure to read the "Catalogue of Characters" and "Ode to the Muses" before you get started. TW/CW for Book I include fire, burns, death, parental abuse of a child.
Read a snippet of Book I below, or find the whole book on AO3.
The days in the training field had been hard, and Azriel’s hands were sore from holding the metal sword thrust upon him. He was only twelve- he shouldn’t have been a full-size sword yet- but his father had commanded it. No one refused King Menoetius, especially not his youngest son.  Menoetius decided Azriel had to be good for something. He was much younger than his brothers and would never be a king in his own right. So, he was to be a soldier. The best soldier, meant to protect his brothers’ backs as they were trained to take his father’s throne.  He’d passed by the beach, looking for where his mother and sister would play skipping stones. Not finding them there, Azriel approached the small house where Phoibe would hide from their brothers. She told Azriel she was safe there - no one could touch her. But the bruises he so often found on her arms indicated otherwise. As the eldest, she should have been first in line for the throne- would have been if not for the misfortune of being born a girl. Their mother was sickly, unable to care for Azriel as a child, and Phoibe had practically raised him. Some of his best memories were of just the two of them, playing together, laughing, separate and safe from the others.  Kicking dust as he made his way toward the cottage, deep in thought, Azriel watched the sun as it dipped below the horizon, sending tendrils of light like flame across the sky.  The screams broke him from his reverie, spurring him into a run. His legs ached, muscles screaming as he pushed them once again after breaking himself in training from sunup to sundown. Cresting the hill’s horizon, Azriel took in the cottage, the tendrils of flames licking the room, caressing the sun's dying rays.
Keep reading here on AO3!
Special thanks to @alexandia03 for helping me correlate all of the characters, piece together the myths/legends, and for beta reading this fic.
And thank you also to @the-darkestminds and @pippsmcgee for beta reading!

Eris Week '24 Day 5: War/Adventure
On day 5 of @erisweekofficial I'm launching a new adventure set just before and during the Trojan War: "The Song of Azris" is an Ancient Greek Azris/Patrochilles AU using inspiration from The Iliad, The Song of Achilles, and Greek Religion & Lore, featuring Azriel as Patroclus and Eris as Achilles.
Tumblr media
The Catalogue of Characters is a reference list of the characters that who up throughout the series, including Gods, Trojans, and Greeks. Here you will find important relationships, and the ancient character counterparts for the ACOTAR characters. The name is a nod to Book Two of The Iliad, in which Homer outlines the catalogue of ships that traveled from Greece.
Tumblr media
Before Homer's poems, he would include an invocation to the muses. These poems acted as an indication that the writer was seeking inspiration from a higher power or source. My fic features one such invocation in my poem, "Ode to the Muses". Though it is not specifically stated, I am invoking Melpomene, the muse of tragedy, whose statue is part of the cover art.
This poem is mean to be a reflection on war, not just as it is in great epics and fantasy novels, but as it is in real life.
Sing me a song of a tale of two men A tale of pride and pain tightly interwoven Sing me a song of a tale of two boys Who once dreamed of love and other naieve joys Sing me a song of the heartache of war Families divided, bleeding to settle the score Sing me a song of the sacrifices spent And the boys who became men but never home went Sing me a song of the young maidens Who cried til tears dried only to be taken again Sing me a song of the horrors of death Only to show there’s beauty in the bereft Sing me a song of a tale of two men So that we may cry while we sing it again and again.
Read the full Catalogue of Characters on AO3 , or read the Ode again on AO3.
Stay tuned for Day 6 of Eris week when the epic begins with "Book 1: The Promise".
Special thanks to @alexandia03 for helping me correlate all of the characters, piece together the myths/legends, and for beta reading this fic.

I cannot get your Patroclus and Achilles azris idea out of my head. Catch me rereading the Iliad for the second time this year thanks Lady Death 🤍
I'm so glad you're obsessed because I'M ALSO OBSESSED. It's fascinating to merge Madeline Miller's interpretation, Homer's original source material, and the ACOTAR universe into these characters. I am DEEP into the research hole and there are so many little easter eggs. My Azriel/Patroclus has gotten so fascinating. 👀
I seriously can't wait to start posting this series.
The initial parts of "The Song of Azris" series will drop during @erisweekofficial this September.

WIP Wednesday Game
Rules: you will be given a word. Then you share one sentence/excerpt from your wip(s) that starts with each letter of your word.
Thank you for the tag @beesays! This is going to be fun. I haven't been writing nearly as much as I'd because I'm studying for my first board exam and boy does it suck the life out of you. But I've got several WIPs to pull from here!
S: “Someday you’ll realize you’re not capable of feeling, Eris - you’re just like me after all.” Azriel's voice was harsh, even in its quietude, the words biting through the night air between them. (Ogygia)
T: They were the most gaudy things Drake had ever seen, but Caspian liked to play into his name, and Drake couldn't help but indulge the man. (Draetos 2: Collision Course [Fourth Wing])
A: Azriel bit down on the rod they stuck between his teeth, bitter and dry. It sucked whatever liquid had been left in his mouth from his tongue and cheeks, but it did nothing to dull the pain. (The Song of Azris, Book 2: Dice & Figs)
R: Reaching for the papers without breaking her gaze, Neve cut back, “You must know that well. I wonder if there’s any fire left in your veins beneath the ice.” “Wouldn’t you like to know.” Conleth’s words were smooth, like fine liquor. Neve felt the fire then, and swallowed it down hungrily. (Unnamed poly "To Become A Vanserra" installment.)
Let me know if there's a fic you want to hear more about! Looking forward to finishing these so I can share them with you.
Tagging: @kale-theteaqueen @chunkypossum @dustjacketmusings @secret-third-thing @readychilledwine @yams-77
Your word is FATE!

Sunday Funday!
Alrighty y'all. School has started, shit has hit the fan, but I'M STILL HERE.
🐶 I am now up to THREE days (mostly) fully drafted for @erisweekofficial.
⚱🗡"The Song of Azris" now has two of the initial parts fully drafted, and an outline for the books. This will be posted as a series of numerous oneshots.
🐀 I've started my fourth piece for @erisweekofficial and I'm returning to my angst roots. The working title is "sad wet rat and the club rat". It has absolutely nothing to do with rats.
This week I'm incredibly busy, but I hope to finish another draft and stay on course to be fully prepared for Eris Week AHEAD of time and not scrambling at the last minute. Hopefully this helps keep me sane and able to work on some other fics as well. We will see!
Love you all, hope you had a great week! Feel free to reach out at any time.

Sunday Funday Update!
I've had all the inspiration and none of the inspiration simultaneously for weeks. There's a lot of pots on the fire right now, so let's give you a little run down...
🏛 I finally got past a part in "The Song of Azris" Book 2 that I was really struggling to write, yay for progress!
🐲 Draetos 2 now has a title, a canva, and is over halfway finished! I'm working on this fic today and hope to post it soon.
🔥 I'm working on not one, but TWO "To Become A Vanserra" fics right now! One is from the perspective of the house, and it's bursting with lore. The other is a fic I'm working on for @polysjmweek week involving Conleth, Fintan, and a very special someone from the Winter Court. ❄
🦇 I have planned a fic for @nameless-acotar-weekend that will focus on the relationships I set up in chapter 6 of "Take These Broken Wings" between the three nameless mothers of our favorite bat boys.
🏹 After reading Onyx Storm I developed several Brennaolin fics, some of which are related to "I'll Give It All" And some of which are completely separate. I plan to break your hearts with those as soon as I'm able.
😭 Do not fret, Azris angst lovers. I have not forgotten about the dead dove I promised you. It will come in time, though it will be much later than anticipated. Maybe I'll get it done before @azrisweek?!
Was this update long enough? 😅 Life is crazy, school is round the clock work, but I hope to bring you all a finished product very soon. Stay safe and sort of sane. 😘

📝 ❓ 📱
If you’ve already answered these, take the most adjacent one you haven’t answered please? 😇 Or answer them again if you have other answers too!
Oooo I don't think i've answered these yet!
📝⇢ Share a snippet of something you are working on for Eris Week!
Since I haven't given you much... how about a snippet of "The Song of Azris, Book 1: The Promise" In advance, I'm not at all sorry...
Mingling with his sister’s shriek, Azriel heard another sound; one he was intimately familiar with. His brothers’ laughter slithered down his spine like oil, an ominous feeling spreading through his body.  Flinging the door to the cottage open, Azriel took in the scene before him. The thatched roof was ablaze, pieces of straw floating to the dirt floor. But Azriel’s attention was drawn to the brazier in the middle of the room. Phoibe used it for sacrifices, communing with the gods she’d dedicated her life to once their father had deemed her useless.  Azriel’s elder brothers, both younger than Phoibe, stood on either side of the brazier, using sticks to fling the hot coals toward their sister. They laughed with glee as the embers hit her skin. The smell of burning flesh was enough to make Azriel’s stomach turn.
❓⇢ What question would you ask Eris given the chance?
"Can I pet that dog?" meme inflection optional.
📱⇢ Give us some modern Eris headcanons?
I feel like Eris is a pen and paper man. He likes the connection to what he's reading/writing and needs to disconnect from technology every once in a while.
Hehehe I love this game. ENJOY THE SNIPPET!

Over a year later and she's finally finished.
Tumblr media
Many of you know me as an ACOTAR writer, but my first fics were for different fandoms in 2016. I went on a long writing hiatus because life happened, but in 2023 I read "The Song of Achilles" and it inspired me to write again. This was my first fic back after that hiatus, and I've finally finished the last chapter.
My style has changed a lot since I started this fic, and I've grown as a writer immensely. It's exciting and humbling to see where I started back in 2016, where I restarted in 2023, and where I'm at now in 2024.
"A Place Eternal" follows Patroclus and Achilles as the reunite in the underworld with the help of Hades and Persephone. If you're interested and would like to start reading it for the first time, you can start at the beginning with Chapter 1: Arrival. If you've been waiting for the final installment, here is a link to Chapter 7: Reunited.
I've posted a small snippet from the first chapter below. Thank you all for being a part of my journey.
When he finally arrived underground, Patroclus was breathless. Literally of course, but figuratively as well for what he saw before him was unlike anything he had ever expected. The underworld was dark, yes, but he didn’t know that it could also be beautiful. A river was flowing next to him, so unlike the rivers he’d spent the past ten years next to in Troy. For even in death, the souls that swam within it were brimming with the stories of their lives. So many stories. Ones of passion and pain like his own, but also ones of simple pleasure. Stolen moments of the world above forever remembered as they flowed through this dark chasm, lighting the walls all around with their vibrancy. He gasped slightly, his jaw falling slack as for one moment his mind was distracted from his purpose. In awe of the motion he realized that he had form again, had the ability to articulate and move with purpose. Not just that, he felt the motion of his body. It was disconcerting after the time he spent a mere wisp waiting for his name to be recorded so he could pass on to this next world. Watching the river he heard a deep male voice from behind him, “We’ve been expecting you.” Turning frantically hoping to see his love, but knowing the voice was not his, Patroclus was shocked to see Hades and Persephone watching.
