i dug a little into some gifsets and this one popped up. how many pieces do you think dean's heart was in at the end of the conversation? there's so much hope in him to have sam and keep him close. he's back and they are together and, maybe for the first time in a long time, dean feels something close to HOPE. hope for his family. hope for them to be close again. to be brothers. he's clinging to that. john's gone. they have no idea what's happening. and it's not like john's been there mentally for a long ass time. so? sam left. dean was alone. besides his one night stands and fleeting relationships. but even then? those kinda just serve to show you how lonely you are once they're over. but sammy's home and sammy's the most important person on the god damn planet. dean can breathe again because, for this little pocket of time, he might feel as close to whole he's felt since sam ran off. for what mighta been for good. who knows? yeah he wants to feel guilty for pulling him out of his life. and he does. but having him here feels so much BIGGER than that guilt..

"i'm not gonna live like this forever." --and dean's head drops. but i'm gonna and that's okay right? cause that's just how it is.

...and all he wants to do is leave as soon as he possibly can.
