(sort of) tagged by @boxonthenile
Rules: Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it! Tag as many people as you have WIPs.
I don't know as many people as I have WIPs so I'm going to tag my mutuals-who-write-iirc and then list as many titles as I can before I run out of ones I actually want to talk about.

Offcut Collection is a minimal furniture series created by Copenhagen-based designer Lærke Ryom, presented at Ukurant during 3daysofdesign. Founded by Kamma Rosa Schytte, Kasper Kyster, Josefine Krabbe, and Lærke Ryom, Ukurant emerged from a series of dialogues centered on the challenges of transitioning from design student to fully-fledged designer.

I have literally hundreds of OCs haha but let me pick one that I was surprised didn't make it past round 1
Tumblr media
He's the main character in my short story (written in January), The Keeper of the Underwater Graveyard (@underwater-gravekeeper-story)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(This is his human form)
Tumblr media
He is a merman who was barred from the human world all his life, only knowing about it from the bodies left on the seabed, which he was tasked to bury. He is deeply fascinated with everything he is able to piece together just by looking at the objects the humans are buried with, but he is absolutely blown away when he meets living humans for the first time. (The first chapters, especially, are like a very dark The Little Mermaid retelling)
The problem is that the human culture isn't much less of a death cult than the underwater kingdom he was raised in. As a matter of fact, the humans consider HIM to be a sort of death-god, which, as soon as he actually meets living humans, becomes increasingly distressing to him. The story unfolds in such a way that he and his (eventual) wife Lærke work to expose this and return the land to the worship of the True God (whether this is successful or not on a large scale is a spoiler haha).
But what I like the most about this story and this character is the struggle of trying to rid oneself of a death-seeped mentality and to be more and more able to see life in everything, not just doom and gloom.
I'll share a passage that I think is very beautiful (this is not the very end btw it's like 2/3 or halfway into the story. This is when he leaves the Underwater kingdom permanently)
Žadgailas picked up his personal belongings, such as tools he thought he would still use, from the yard, and prepared to leave. He looked at the now very well organised and compartmentalised mausoleum with a painful nostalgia, re-reading the epitaphs he used to write for these strangers. He remembered the stories he used to imagine about them, and by extention the human world, only judging by the few objects they had been buried with. He tried his best to be a sort of comfort to all of these victims. However, he now thought to himself, deeply disillusioned, nothing that he did for these people mattered at all. This place was not the afterlife, it was quite possibly its polar opposite. He knew nothing about the fates of their souls, and he hoped at least some would actually find rest, but he doubted they would. He had never been the one who had the power to decide such things, even when he thought he was. He wept one last time for them. His mourning did not have an impact on the souls of the dead, of course, but at least it might have served as a daily testimony to both the sea palace dwellers and the humans living on the adjacent shore that death is neither something to rejoice in, nor to treat lightly or indifferently. Perhaps, all that mourning for somebody really does is confirm, yet again, that their life was deeply valuable to begin with, and thus worth mourning the loss of. But, indeed, that is not a small thing after all. He swam away from his old home, heading to the shore. He had to abandon his old role as the grave keeper. This could only mean, he thought, that he had to assume his new role, that he named himself after 7 years ago, that being of a promise keeper. The fate of people's souls after death had always been in the true God's hands. However, what Žadgailas could do now, that he would spend the rest of his days among the living, as it were, is show his loyalty to God and also to his fellow people.
OH MAN THIS SOUNDS GREATTT!!
I love the semi archeologist meets mermaid adventure-ish story. I really like the theme of death and hope 🌟
