hi babe!!! timebomb overwatch widowtracer au??? I love your brain ❤❤❤
Mwah. Okay! Widowtracer, so there's assassination in this one. And timebomb, so there's jinx's hallucinations. I've never written either of these two as adults! lets do it.
---
Take the shot.
Take the shot.
Take the shotttaketheshottaketheshottakethefuckingshot–
Jinx lets out a breath, trying to calm down.
“I’m gonna, i’m gonna.” She mumbles to the specter over her shoulder, the thing hanging on the edges of her vision. “I’m gonna take the shot. You just need to– you just need to give me a minute!”
The figure doesn’t move in her vision, doesn’t express approval or disapproval, just hangs there, and she winces hard, hearing it anyway.
Taketheshottaketheshottaketheshotyou’reacowardyou’reajinx–
Her finger almost twitches against the trigger, and then there’s bright blue blur, and she pulls the sniper rifle up sharply as a man is suddenly standing right in front of her, on the ledge of the building, in white and orange. There’s a blue reactor in his chest.
“Really.” he says. “Thought you were better than that.”
“Did you?” She asks. “Really?”
“You used to be.”
She pitches a trap at him that clamps on, exploding into little venomous spikes, and he disappears again in blue as it hits him.
She levels the gun as soon as he disappears, trying to aim at the space he’d just occupied, but then there’s steps behind her and another blue blur and she surges forward and rolls as Ekko fires at her back. In the space between breaths she pretends to be out of control, to be rolling too fast, and goes straight off the edge of the building, allowing herself a startled and frantic little sound.
“–Jinx–”
It’s a heady relief to hear him use the name she chose for herself, even as she closes her eyes and falls–
And he’s catching her, and they’re crashing through the window of the apartment below, the one with the perfect viewpoint that Jinx hadn’t used because it was alarmed. Everything starts blaring. There are voices in her head and Ekko is yelling at her but she’s smiling at him, which throws him off long enough that she brings the gun up and fires point blank at his chest.
The bullet passes through the space he’d just occupied, into the air, and directly into the chest of the man who’d just come to his window to see what the noise was about.
It’s a victory.
It doesn’t feel like one.
“You–” Ekko reforms, but he can’t take the seconds back, can only save himself.
“You keep forgetting.” Jinx says, and lunges at him. He grabs her shoulders, her arms, trying to hold onto her.
“Why are you doing this?” he asks. “You’re better than this, I know you are, you could be home, with us, with Overwatch–”
She swings around– it’s almost like a dance, that’s the way she has to think about it, she moves her feet and he moves to match her and it’s so easy to just look smug so he advanced, to step back as he steps forward, so the window’s behind her. It’s like a dance, and the steps and the voices go take the shot take the shot take the shot.
“Because you don’t know me anymore.” She says, and then singsongs- “Powder’s gone and Jinx is here, and just to make that perfectly clear–”
She shoves back against his chest, hard, knocking him off her and out the window, and she’s falling, but before he can think about saving her her grappling hook is out, she’s fired it, she’s saving herself.
“Catch you next time, Loser!”
She makes the L against her forehead and swings off into the night, tries not to think any more, tries to just feel the air against her body as it twists. Take the shot take the shot take the shot
Why did she feel like she always missed?
