Tale of Kurent

All people died in the flood with the exception of one, and he was from Kranjska. He fled higher and higher, but finally the water covered the mountain as well. The poor soul saw how the fir trees and the oaks were covered by water, and the only thing that remained dry was a grapevine. He ran to it and gripped it tightly, although not in hope but in utter terror. How could the grapevine, so thin and weak, help him? Kurent saw the man, for he used the grapevine as a stick whenever he was wandering around the world. He was glad to see that the man sought help from him. To tell the truth, Kurent was a jester but he also had a mild temperament. He was willing to rescue anybody who was in trouble. Upon hearing the man’s wails, Kurent smoothed his grapevine stick, extending it higher and higher, until it reached beyond the clouds. After nine years, the waters receded and the land dried once again. The man saved himself by hanging on the grapevine and living on its grapes and wine. When everything was dry again, he climbed down, highly praising Kurent the rescuer. Yet this was not to Kurent’s liking. “It was the grapevine that rescued you,” he said to the man. “Praise the grapevine instead. Make a contract with it and swear by yourself and by your descendants that you will celebrate it and love its wine more than any food or drink.” The grateful man immediately swore by himself and by his descendants. To this day, his grandchildren have kept his faith, as the story goes, and love wine more than anything else, merrily remembering Kurent, their old benefactor.

(…) The Kurent of the above-mentioned Slovene tale rescues the man from Kranjska from the Flood. According to Ivan Grafenauer, Kurent is a malevolent lunar deity representing the Slavic deity of wine and pleasure. He is the lunar primogenitor and an evil demi-god akin to the Keremet of the Votyak people, with origins in the pre-Slavic nomadic pastoral culture. According to a Votyak belief legend, Keremet taught the first human in Paradise how to make kumiss, an intoxicating drink made from mare’s milk. He also seduced the first man and woman to disregard the command of Inmar the Creator not to drink it. In addition, the Votyaks also claimed that Keremet was the “younger brother” and opponent of Inmar (Juma), the Supreme Being. Mordvian tales mention a similar mythical being named Šajtan, who seduces the first human. Ivan Grafenauer also compared Kurent with the demi-god Erlik known to the Altaic Tartars. Schnapps, which is called Erlik’s drink, was named after Erlik, who is depicted as a rosy-cheeked god of joy. Kurent was originally interpreted as a god of unleashed joy, a Slavic version of Dionysus in Greece and Bacchus in Rome. Anton Tomaž Linhart called him the god of pleasure (Gott der Schwelgerei), Davorin Trstenjak compared Kurent to the Indian Shiva and Matevž Ravnikar-Poženčan with the ancient Priapus and with Bacchus, Trdina and Navratil also compared Kurent with Bacchus, and perceived him as the god of debauchery and merrymaking.

I don’t know why, but if it matters as an American, I always just assume that every other country has their own little enclave inside of Tumblr that’s just a bunch of inside news stories that only people from the country get or care about. Is that not the case? There’s just so many posts I just kind of assumed that if I searched around, I could find Slovenian Tumblr that would be posting right about now about getting excited about seeing The Kurent. Maybe hear people on Indonesian Tumblr talk about how they feel about the Indonesian government moving the capital. Maybe hear some celebrity be compared to Rangda. Idk.

Let us also consider a Slovene folk Carnival custom in which the kurenti, accompanied by a procession of the piceki (chicks) jump up and down and “plough” around houses to make their owner’s turnips grow thick and plump. The latest archaeological discoveries revealed the connection between the kurenti and the ancient cult of Cybele, according to which the mythical companions of Cybele were called the kurenti and the koribanti (Ciglenečki 1999). They were dressed in the masks of a rooster. In view of all this, we can safely say that in all probability Kurent was a deity or a demon connected to fertility and licentiousness, even though Milko Matičetov (1985) as well as Leopold Kretzenbacher (1941) denied Kurent his mythical origin.

“Petničko jezero” je veštačko jezero u neposrednoj blizini Stanice sa bogatom florom i faunom, osim toga dom je jedne veoma zanimiljive ptice. Barska kokica, poznata i kao “žurka”, je neobična i tajanstvena ptica selica. Nažalost, često služi kao plen lisicama i psima. Iz tog razoga je njeno omiljeno stanište u gustoj trsci uz obalu. Posebne karakteristike uključuju crno i tamnosmeđe perje sa belim šarama, na čelu ima crvene boje, a kljun sem žutog vrha je takođe crven. Najviše se ističu njene duge žute noge, koje izgledaju nesrazmerno u odnosu na njeno telo. Kao i sve ptice koje naseljavaju jezero, poput patki može da hoda po lokvanjima. S obzirom na njene navike i osobine, glavni cilj bio je projektovati kućicu nalik splavu, koji bi reflektoavo njeno prirodno okruženje, kretanje, način na koji se hrani i leže jaja. Splav je pažljivo smišljen kako bi se mogao postaviti među trsku i omogućiti pristup sa vode i kopna. Jedna od karakteristika kuće je fleksibilnost, na taj način se oponaša prirodno okruženje u kome žurka polaže jaja tokom sezone parenja. Kada je u pitanju materijal, odlučeno je da je trska i sama idealna kao gradivni materijal, ekološki i sa interesantnim ponašanjem u odnosu na svežinu odsečene stabljike. Posebno istraživanje sprovedeno je posmatranjem materijala i izmene njegovih svojstava tokom vremena. Uvezivanjem kanapom dobija se finalni oblik, koji načinom na koji leže na trsku u svom centralnom delu formira gnezdo, dok mu izduženi oblik omogućuje formiranje platforme za pristup.

Kuremp - The Wild Man Pokémon! (#028)

Kuremp evolves from Kurempechek at Level 27, evolving into Kuremp (Vernal Forme) if it has at least 30 Happiness, and Kuremp (Hibernal Forme) otherwise.

Evolving from the lovable imp Pokémon Kurempechek, we have Kuremp, the Wild Man Pokémon! Also originally from Berdan, these wooly beasts are as different as night and day (or spring and winter, as the case may be).

More often than not, a Kurempechek that's loved and cherished will grow up into Kuremp's Vernal Forme. In this forme, Kuremp is a jovial giant, always with a spring in its step and a song in its heart. The adornments of its previous evolution have become even more elaborate, with the designs of its clogs becoming more complex and strands of colorful ribbon-like appendages growing from its horns. This version of Kuremp is known as "the Herald of the Spring", as it is said to drive the wintertime away. Metaphorically, it does this by loving others and providing a source of cheer for members of its community. Literally, it does this by singing so loud and dancing so hard, it can shake a tree completely of its snow from 500 feet away (not to mention its incredibly thick fur providing a comfy blanket for anyone who wants a quick snuggle to warm up).

Kuremp (Vernal Forme) has the Signature Move "Herald of the Spring", a Grass-type Special move with 80 Power and 100 Accuracy. Kuremp sings a song of springtime so loud, it causes physical damage. It is a sound-based move. Despite being a Grass-type move, Herald of the Spring is super-effective against Ice-type Pokémon.

However, all is not rainbows and unicorns for the Kuremp. If a Kurempechek grew up with an especially cruel parental figure, then it evolves into Kuremp's Hibernal Forme. This version of Kuremp is more bitter and bestial than its jolly counterpart. It prefers to live alone in the mountains, only coming down from its lair in the darkest nights of the year to terrorize the villagers who treated it poorly. It is said that Kuremp (Hibernal) will even go as far as to kidnap the children of those who were cruel to it when it was still a child. Some say that those children become Kurempechek themselves - others say that it tries to give them the good childhood that it itself was deprive of.

Kuremp (Hibernal Forme) has the Signature Move "Sack Attack", a Dark-type Physical move with 20 Power and 80 Accuracy. Kuremp traps its opponents in its grasps in preparation to bring it back to its mountainous dwelling. If this move succeeds, then the opposing Pokémon is trapped, and unable to switch out for 5 turns. Every turn, Sack Attack hits the opposing Pokémon again, regardless of and in addition to whatever move is played. This move fails if the opposing Pokémon is already trapped by Sack Attack.

Meanwhile, Kuremp's Hibernal Forme is based off of Krampus, Santa Claus' sinister sidekick. Far from giving the bad kids coal, Krampus steals the naughty kids and I think also beats them with chains??? Brutal stuff. That's why he has chains on his horns as opposed to the Vernal Forme's ribbons. And, if you paid attention, you'll notice that both come from the bands on Kurempechek's little baby horns!

i love lunar and they had/have (idk i cannot watch this show any more for my mental health so im out of the loop on kurent happenings plot wise) it bad, but so dose sun!! i aprechiate your work in this fandom much ikagami because it sometimes feels like your the only person who cares about sun for anything more than femboy owo , i used to not really like sun very much (its his voice, i have problems with most of the voices in this show acttually) but seeing how much you care for and relate to him, i like this guy and care about him too, this fandom needs to get its head on strait at least for serios stuff like this,,, skreew the trama olimpics everyones got mental illnesses out the wasso in his show

ABUSE VICTIMS ARE NOT TREATED EQUALLY IN SAMS FANDOM AND IN THE SHOW

(even though I still think that it's intentional on showrunners part so it's not directed at showrunners that much)

I'm so tired of seeing takes of people who talks about how much Lunar and Eclipse's relationship is so complicated and at the same time say that everything is remotely okay with Sun and Moon's relationship.

Sun and Moon are the OG messed up relationship in the show. And yet I still see people who don't realize that. They act like Old Moon's abuse was nothing when at the same time they say that poor Lunar suffered so much from Eclipse. Don't get me wrong Lunar is a victim of abuse but so is Sun!

Sun thiks that he likes toxic people because of his relationship with Old Moon. He's afraid to speak up his mind because of Old Moon. He's scared of loud noises and darkness because of Old Moon. He's touch averssed because of Old Moon. He was afraid for a very long time to talk about his cats because of Old Moon. He doesn't believe in his own smarts because of Old Moon. He thinks that he's only good for cleaning because of Old Moon.

Even if now New Moon is willing to listen, Sun is too scared to say anything because he most definitely thinks that if he'll use the wrong word, Moon will magically start acting like Old Moon.

Sun is so afraid to take any action even if he'd like to because his last attempt to help ended with Old Moon dying.

Some people still brush off all these years of mental, emotional and physical abuse Old Moon inflicted on Sun. While they still hold over Eclipse's head the abuse his previous versions inflicted on Lunar.

Make it make sense!

We're bashing Eclipse for abusing Lunar because he's a villain but we don't care about Old Moon abusing Sun because he's one of the MCs!?

Yeah Old Moon wasn't a 100% evil monster. But yet he did so many amoral things and he was very abusive towards his own brother! But he regretted being like that and tried to be better.

We can say exactly the same thing about Eclipse. I hope that people who defend Old Moon's actions and abuse knows that.

I'm also tired that all of this abuse is just brushed off because "if they could communicate with each other better". How about no? Because don't you see that we can say the exact same thing about Lunar and Eclipse's relationship.

And whose fault do you think it is that there was a lack of communication between Sun and Old Moon?

If your answer isn't Old Moon then I don't know what to tell you.

And I'm so frustrated that people say that Sun is doing so much better when he still couldn't even processed his relationship with Old Moon and he was unable to grieve properly after Old Moon's death.

And I blame New Moon and Earth for this.

Sun needs help but he's continuously ignored by his own family and friends.

Lunar had it better than Sun because Monty arrived with help at the right time. No one did anything like that for Sun.

Sun was continuously blamed for bad things in his relationship with Old Moon by both fans and characters in the show.

Sun still very much suffers consequences of Old Moon's abuse and yet people don't care about it. Because it's not Lunar. The bean who suffered the most.

Screw the people who continuously play trauma olympics and gush over Lunar because he's so traumatised but at the same time ignore Sun's trauma.
